Three Categories of Discipline Essays
Discipline is an essential component of every child s developmental process. From birth, the
primary deficiency of children is their lack of knowledge and understanding of the world. Contrary
to the negative connotation of the word s modern usage, discipline actually has origin in Latin
meaning to teach. Therefore, discipline is simply the teaching of information that is necessary for
children to be successful in their respective environments. In child development, discipline refers to
the teaching of self control and morals intended to foster sound reasoning and behavior. The
response to inappropriate behavior through physical punishment is what gives discipline the
negative connotation among many in contemporary society.... Show more content on

The success of power assertion is dependent on the child s continuation of fear of the authoritarian
parent. This fear tactic has very powerful effects on children, and can result in immediate
behavioral changes. This fast cure makes changing to a different discipline seem unnecessary.
However, due to habituation and maturity, children begin to question authority, leading frequently
to an escalation in the tactics used by the parent to maintain this absolute power. In addition,
continuing use of power assertion has been linked to unjustified aggressive behavior and moral
immaturity in children (Hoffman, 2000). Love withdrawal is a psychological form of discipline
in which a parent employs threat, the removal of attention and love, and a variety of punishment
that can range from docile (ignoring for a few seconds) to extreme (threats to leave the child).
This form of punishment also is highly effective at younger ages, as it preys upon the natural
dependency of a child and uses fear to induce guilt to achieve the desired behavior. As the child
ages, their feeling of guilt translates into higher than normal occurrences of depression and anxiety.
As adults, the children who had received love withdrawal harbor high levels of resentment and
anger toward their parents (Segrin Flora, 2005). Induction includes the forms of discipline in which
the parents use conversation to reason with the child to fully explain the potential

Comparing Islam and Christianity Essay
Comparing Islam and Christianity
Although they share several basic theological ideas, Christianity and Islam differ on countless key
characteristics. The most prominent differences include atonement, the identity of God, heaven,
view of Jesus, and the perception of the Christian Bible. It is these not so subtle contrasts of
thoughts that separate the two most prevalent religions in the world.
One of the most important differences in Christianity and Islam is the concept of atonement. In
Christianity, Jesus death on the cross allows Christians to repent from their sins and gain
forgiveness from God. Conversely, in Islam there is no atonement from sins with Allah, though they
still repent and confess their sins. While Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While they share the basic concept of heaven as a final resting place for those who have done
their God s will during their time on Earth, the descriptions of heaven vary significantly.
Christians believe that heaven is the dwelling place of God, and fellowship with Him provides the
unimaginable happiness associated with heaven. Muslims hold a more worldly belief of heaven; a
state of perpetual bliss, rewarding Muslims who have lived righteous lives. This blissful heaven
fulfils its occupants earthly desires, including rewards such as dozens of virgins awaiting martyrs of
Islam. The key difference between these two views of heaven is the nature of their rewards; while
Islam provides earthly gifts to deserving Muslims, the Christian heaven provides spiritual
satisfaction to those Christians who have maintained the faith.
Yet another very important difference between Christianity and Islam is their views of the Christian
Bible. The Bible serves as the guide to Christianity, offering aid and advice for daily living as
well as describing the acts and life of Jesus. Muslim views of the Bible offer a stark contrast to
those of Christianity. The Muslims respect and follow the teachings of the prophets, but agree with
the Bible only as far as it

Model Respect
Respect is one of the most important social skills that a person can have therefore it is educators
and parents to model to the young children what is respect. Before we do anything to the child
we should acknowledge them what we are about to do to them for example before moving the
child from the floor to the crib, caregivers should tell them what we are about to do to. In order to
model respectto a child, we must respect infants and toddlers as worthy people
An example of a respect interaction that I encountered was sitting outside of James Hall, in
Brooklyn College. There was a mom and a boy toddler (around two years old). The mom was
holding the boy s hand and was walking into the building. The mom was also giving the boy pieces

Examples Of Hyperbole In The Crucible
In 1951, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play referring to the time in Massachusetts during
the Salem witch trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a time period when people were being
randomly accused of being witches by one another. The people who were accused of being
witches had to either give false confessions or were executed in terrible ways. In The Crucible,
the accused were sentenced to death by hangings, pressings, died in prison. In the play, nineteen
people were hung, about thirteen died in prison, and one died by being pressed. In the play, the
author Miller uses many examples of hyperbole and exaggeration as the characters are talking .
The author also used imagery to describe the settings in the play. In The Crucible, the author
wanted to give us a real life description of how that time period might have been. As the story
goes on, we see the craziness of the salem witch trials and how absurd it was. One literary device
that Arthur Miller showed in The Crucible was hyperbole. Throughout the play many parts are
shown where the dialogue shows examples of hyperboles. For example, this quote said by John
Proctor, Oh, Elizabeth, your justice would freeze beer! (p.27). This quote by John is not to be
taken literal but at the time John and Elizabeth do not have a great relationship. This is due to
the fact that John Proctor committed adultery by falling in love with one of the local girls,
Abigail Williams. Another great example of a hyperbole is How high did she fly, how high (p.
69) At this time Betty, a girl who was a part of the series that began the salem witch trials was
asleep and could not wake. One of the townspeople, Mrs. Putnam said she had heard Betty had
been seen flying over Mr. Collins barn. The townspeople were quick to start rumors of witches
in the town. They thought that young Betty had been cursed by a witch and that she why she
could not wake. The people of the town were starting to go crazy and were letting their fear go to
their head. Lastly John Proctor says Why? I have no business in Salem (p. 89). He is talking to
his wife Elizabeth after he has been gone all day. His wife thinks he went the town but John said
he did not. He says that at this time he has no business

The French and Indian War Essay
The French and Indian War was a conflict in North America in which Great Britain fought France
and their Native American allies. It lasted from 1756 until 1763, so it was also known as the
Seven Years War. At the peace conference in 1763, the British received Canada from France and
Florida from Spain, but permitted France to keep its West Indian sugar islands and gave Louisiana
to Spain. The treaty strengthened the American colonies significantly by removing their European
rivals to the north and south and opening the Mississippi Valley to westward expansion. The war
began as disputes over land between British colonists, officials, and the IroquoisConfederacy who
were against the French and their Native American allies. The Iroquois... Show more content on

In July 1758, the British won their first major victory at Louisbourg, near the mouth of the St.
Lawrence River. Within a month, they took Fort Frontenac at the western end of the river. Then
they arrived at Quebec, where General James Wolfe won another important victory in the Plains of
Abraham in September 1759. However, both he and the French commander, the Marquis de
Montcalm, died soon after the battle. When the British captured Montreal in September 1760, the
French lost their last foothold in Canada. Soon, Spain decided to help France fight against England,
and throughout the rest of the war Britain focused on capturing French and Spanish territories in
other places throughout the world. The cost of funding the war was so massive that the ensuing
debt nearly destroyed the British government. This debt caused most of the grievances between the
British and the colonists, eventually leading to the Revolutionary War.
This resource loss had a massive impact on Britain. The outcome of the war never truly made up
for the resources the British had to use to win, so they had to find another way to make up for the
lost funds. This was achieved by taxing the colonies on many types of goods. The first thing
Britain wanted to do was stop illegal smuggling. They attempted to do this through the Sugar Act.
The Sugar Act, created by George Grenville, actually lowered the tax on

Sucker Punch Gameplay Engineer Questions
Sucker Punch Gameplay Engineer Questions
Question 1
Imagine that you re designing a new attack for an enemy in a melee focused third person action
game. Just to choose a random example, let s say it s a Minotaur in a God of War style game.
What factors do you consider when designing the attack, and how do you prioritize these factors?
Basic factors about the attack:
1.Area: The area in which the attack could potentially fall upon
2.Duration: The duration of the attack
3.Frequency: How often this attack is used
4.Range: The maximum distance the attack can reach
5.Size: The area of effect of the attack
6.Damage: Damage per attack
7.Effects: Extra properties of attack, like poison or slow effect
8.Cooldown: How long does it take to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the attack speed will be compared to player s movement speed, and attack area will
be compared to the size of the fighting room.
Among these factors, the most important one should be Dogdgeability. Like in the famous action
game Dark Souls, bosses and enemies attack damage is usually quite high and cause players to die a
lot. However, the game still makes players think it is fair, because a lot of attacks are dodgeable
by skillful players. If the attack cannot be dodged systematically, we will be limited when adjusting
other factors of the attack, because the players will always receive damage from the attack. As a
result, the attack cannot be too strong, and the game will be less exciting. On the other hand, if
the attack can be dogdged, we can make it as strong as we like and with all kinds of effects. This
increases the feeling of achievement when player successfully dodged it.
After we design how it could be dodged, we can measure by playtesting how difficult it is to
dodge the attack. After that, we can assign the damage inversely proportional to the rate of
successful dodge. In summary, we could prioritize the factors by groups as following:
(Dodgeability: Area, Duration, Range, Size, Subattack Counts, Preparation, Room Coverage,
Smartness, Movement) (Frequency, Damage, Effects, Cooldown, Animation) (Properties,
Environment Destruction)
We could further prioritize the factors in dodgeability group as follows.
First we could decide (Area,

Global Warming And Greenhouse Effect
The greenhouse effect is caused by the emission of greenhouse gases which prevent the outgoing
radiation of the sun from returning back into space. This entrapped energy of the sun results in the
excessive heating up of the earth, and causes the much spoken about phenomenon of global
warming, thus exhibiting the relation between global warmingand the greenhouse effect.
Introduction: The greenhouse effect is a natural warming process of the earth. The theory is that
when the sun s energy reaches the earth, some of it is reflected back to space while the rest is
absorbed. The absorbed energy warms the earth s surface which then emits heat energy back
toward space in the form of long wave radiation. This outgoing radiation is partially trapped by
greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor which then radiate the energy in
all directions, warming the earth s surface and atmosphere.
What is Global Warming?: What happens when too much carbon dioxide goes into the Earth s
atmosphere? The condition known as Global Warming occurs. Global Warming is the rising of the
Earth s surface temperature due to chemicals in the atmosphere. Global Warming has many threats
on the climate and even the health of the people on this planet. Some of these threats include the
altering of crop seasons and even affect the way organisms survive on the planet. Troubling facts
about the greenhouse effect include that the increasing amounts of greenhouse gases intensify the

Engagement Stones
When shopping for engagement rings, you are probably used to hearing words like round cut ,
princess cut , emerald cut , oval cut, etc., but what about the Asscher cut? The name sounds odd,
doesn t it? It s no surprise that most people don t know that there is something called an Asscher
cut stone or what it is. The truth of the matter is that you ve probably seen this particular cut
before, even if it is less common than other stones. Previously, very few stores carried these
stones, but due to several celebrities receiving them as engagement rings, as well as some
placements in very large television shows, their popularity has risen lately. Most jewelers now
have these stones on hand, or they can easily be ordered for you.
The cut was created in 1902 by the Asscher brothers from Holland. The cut is somewhat like a
octagon, and some jewelers even call it a modified cushion cut ring. It looks like square cut with
trimmed corners to the naked eye. There are many steps within this diamond, which creates a

to as the Asscher cut. The Royal Asscher cut has a high crown and 74 facets. You can see that the
distinction can be like walking a very fine line; however, it mainly boils down to the amount of
facets within the ring. Both rings, to the naked eye, have very similar shapes and are very often
confused with square emerald stones. You can expect to pay a 10 20% premium for Royal Asscher

characters in the novels, Pride and Prejudice and Hard Times, written by Jane Austen and Charles
Dickens respectively. Keeping in mind the specific historical circumstances, social positions and
gender identities of the authors, this paper will explore the various factors that determine the
portrayal of women and the roles that they play in the family and the larger society in the

Class distinctions and gender roles in the Regency and Victorian eras were centered on a very
rigid social structure. This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an
esteemed Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus
of her novels to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely
selective world that was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period,
including that of Austen, were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that
they live in the shadow of men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered
by means of the money that they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral
funds. The social structure was hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic
upper classes and middle classes, ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely
mingled with each other. Austen intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels
that focus on mannerisms, social communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay
Gender and Genre, describes Austen s style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity,
romantic desire and gender relations as shaped by the social context. (pg

Relationship Between Teacher And Students
Relationships in the classroom
Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary
and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the
teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is
not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work
matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels
pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with
learning. A large body of research supports the ideathat a good teacher student relationship helps
the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that
has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their
students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present
anymore.
Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in
their lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of
a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on
various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the
way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment

Leadership Qualities Of The Great Leaders Of Our Time
Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a Leader to chart the course (Maxwell viii). Leadership.
This concept has created many debates throughout history. What does it take to be classified as a
great leader? What intangible characteristics are inherent to the great leaders of our time? Why
have so many failed when put into a leadershiprole? During my 27 plus years in the military and
over 20 years in the construction industry, I have been exposed to a wide variety of leaders and
their leadership style. These examples have demonstrated to me that there are just as many bad

Held et al also argue that with the spread of interconnection of crime across national boarders, it
creates new opportunities and forms of global crime such as transnational organized crime, IP crime
and human smuggling and trafficking (Held, et al., 1999:162). For instance, Castells points out that
the Western societies acts as the demand side in a global criminal economy, they are in a high
demand of drugs and prostitutes, which can be supplied and produced in a third world drug
producing countries such as Columbia (Castells, 1998, cited in Puniskis, 2010:239). Furthermore,
apart from the reasons that these crimes are prevalent in the Western nations, it becomes a
controversial issue as it violates the international laws regarding humanity. For example, human
smuggling and trafficking is an illegal sale of human beings that contains exploitation and coercion.
According to Leman and Janssens, it is apparent that human trafficking is a violation of human
rights in the way that it requires exploitation of human such as prostitution, non voluntary form of

The following summaries of my research accomplishments, I believe, should be able to support my
enthusiastic approach to bring a substantial change in the research progress in the department of
physics and materials science.
I for the first time created a strong covalent amide bond between TiO2 mesoporous films and N719
by chemically modifying TiO2 with 3 aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. The dye sensitized solar cells
thus prepared were stable and more resistant to UV light, thermal stress, acid, and water when
compared to traditional photoanodes. There was a dramatic preservation of the SCN ligand of
N719 on the TiO2 surface for up to 6 months, which is not possible in the case of other modified
photoanodes with dye attached non covalently through electrostatic or hydrogen bonding
interactions. (Langmuir, 2013, 29, 13582 13594). I extensively studied the synthesis of
nanomaterials, quantum dots such as ZnS, CdS, electrodeposition of semiconductor oxide
materials, preparation methods for different shapes (nanowires, nanotubes, and tree like structures)
and sizes (3 300 nm) of nanomaterials to accomplish this research work. I did research on molecular
linkers to link quantum dots. In addition, I explored the charge injection dynamics from the excited
dye (N719) to TiO2 semiconductor nanoparticles after chemical modification of the TiO2
nanoparticles with silane linkers using the ultrafast transient absorption

The Negative Aspects Of School Integration
Throughout history school integration has been somewhat of a war, but why? Although school
integration should be something that is praised because of what it has done for children in the past,
many people and administrators do all in their power to prevent school integration. We claim as a
society that all children should have the same opportunities, but in many cases that is not an option
without schoolintegration. In order to grow as a rising society, it is important for people to set
aside what their negative beliefs about school integration are if it means a better future for children
who otherwise would not have the chance to thrive as they should. B. The Problem We All Live
With Part One: A Sociological Analysis:
In part one of The Problem We All Live With, we are introduced to many incredible, unforgettable
facts about the American school district, facts that are very often overlooked in today s society.
Nikole Hannah Jones speaks out about her years reporting on the american education system and
the different problems she encountered while doing so. Nikole states that administrators have
tried to close the enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black
and white students that was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts
were mostly black and latino, these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not
doing much to help the fact that children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least
experienced teachers, which was a large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The Normandy
school district in Missouri became unaccredited because of how poor the quality of the education
was. Because Normandy became an unaccredited school, the transfer law came into effect. The
transfer law is a law that gave students in unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a
nearby accredited schools for free (Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). The transfer law gave students of
Normandy the right to transfer to Francis Howell, an accredited school on the other other side of
town. Parents of Francis Howell were not happy with the Normandy students transferring because
they were convinced that this would lower the quality of the Francis Howell

Summer Narrative
Summer Narrative I am being transported in a chinook chopper as a rescue team for the
survivors of operation redwing. All of the sudden I see a taliban soldier holding an RPG looks
right at my helicopter and fires. The rocket zooms across the mountain and hits the helicopter. A
blast of heat knocked me backward and out of the helicopter. I land into the mountain side as I
see my helicopter crash into the mountain side. Soon enough I am rolling down the hill until I
strike a rock. I am sitting on top of a cave and I hear coughing inside the cave. In fear of my life I
thought it was the taliban, but when I come around the corner I see one of the soldiers I came to
rescue. I sigh with relief and lean against the wall of the cave. But I did not have too much of a
break from the action. I heard foot steps of two people on top of the cave. Me and marcus have our
rifles pointed at the entrance of the cave. Four black beady eyes see us in the cave and we put 3

taliban or else he would have killed us by now. We follow him back to the village and we are
taken into one of the huts that they have been living in. We lay down on floor and some children
came in and started to pack our wounds. When the children left one came back with a duck. And
marcus thought that was the kids pet. So he asked the kid what was the duck s name. The kid
responded by pulling out a knife and just cut the ducks head off. I guess the kid thought he wanted

Sergei Eisenstein s Bonnie And Clyde
Sergei Eisenstein s film theory often reflects on the capabilities of allowing film editing to create
the essence of the scenes. With the work of Arthur Penn s Bonnie and Clyde viewers see aspects of
the formalist concepts while comparing Eisenstein interpretation of artistic cinematography. In
Eisenstein Cinematic Principle and Ideogram Dialectical Approach the article discusses the way
cinematographic traits help revolutionize the way we view different forms graphically. The article
maintains that cinematography is simply a montage of scenes in frames timed together to create a
picturesque feel that is often left open to interpret by the viewer. The form of the filmwill associate
different dimensions to an object that is used to be the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewers can see that she is naive, unhappy and pondering her decision to leave home, which is
rather difficult or seen as predictable to express verbally in her room alone. She is also naked in
this that delivers a sense of innocence and adolescence or wanting to experience adulthood. What
is particularly interesting is how Penn uses the bed rails as a prop in this scene as a
cinematographic convention. Penn creates a depictive metaphor about the character physical state
when Bonnie holds onto the rails and looks out solemnly like a prisoner. Viewers can see that she
is trapped in a life that is not stimulating, and that she is longing for some sort of excitement.
When the camera zooms in to an extreme close up of her eyes viewers can see the sudden change
of somber to slight curiosity that cinematography delivers skillfully in the scene. When editing
images together that create their own meanings allows the film to depend on what one sees visually
on the screen. This is the purpose of Eisenstein theory, to allow room for the viewer to develop their
own intellectual context from the content being presented to

Simba s The Lion King
The Lion King is considered a classic and one of the greatest animated films of all time. Many
say that it draws on the epicness of its source material, William Shakespeare s timeless play
Hamlet . While the themes of revenge and death are represented in Lion King , it is toned down
in order to appeal to the primary target audience of children. One message directed towards the
audience of children and adults is how natural enemies can cooperate and even become friends, as
evidenced in the friendship of Timon, Pumbaa, and Simba. Simba, the prince of Pride Rock, is
destined to be the King after his father, but the representative of manipulation and evil, Simba s
uncle Scar, stages a takeover by murdering Simba s father, Mufasa, and convincing

The Goal Of The Physical Education Teacher
Mismatch between What is Taught and What is Needed for Careers
The goal of the physical education teacher education curriculum is to train teachers who can
provide effective teaching and produce learning outcomes in children. However, when it comes to
train preservice teachers, there is no consistent curriculum across the programs in the U.S. It
depends on the interests and abilities of teacher educators and to the demands of the institutions in
which they serve (Locke, Mand, Sidentop, 1981). This disciplinary debates about what to teach has
been continued since 1964 initiated by Henry (Collier, 2006).
The primary point of this debate in physical education teacher education curriculum lies in the

The focus of this area is preparation for participation in a changing, challenging, and profoundly

Pros And Cons Of Violent Video Games
Position/Argumentative Essay Should teens be able to buy violent video games? No, teens should
not be able to purchase video games that contain violent content. Violent video games in a person s
early years could result in much, much worse things later on in life. Studies show that violent video
games could result in bullying, criminal activity, or in worse cases, suicide. Games that withhold
violent scenes can result in bullying. Children will see what they are doing in their game, and think
that it would be acceptable to do that type of thing in the real world. They may not be going as far
as shooting someone, but they can turn that violence into a smaller aspect of hitting or kicking one
of their fellow classmates at school. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pew Research Center reported in 2008 that ninety seven percent of youth ages twelve to

than half of all video games rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board contained violence,
including more than ninety percent of those rated as appropriate for children ten years or older.
Given how common these games are, it is a small wonder that mental health clinicians often find
themselves fielding questions from parents who are worried about the immense impact of violent
video games on their children. , says the Harvard Mental Health Letter (Violent Video Games and

the Simpsons Homers dad Abie has become sort of like Morrie, he tells a writer his stories who

How Does Daisy Fit The Theme Of The Great Gatsby
When reading The Great Gatsby you may ask yourself what the theme might be but there really isn

theme for The Great Gatsbyis that the desire for things may force people to change. Now at first it
doesn t really make sense but as soon as you read the book and really think about it makes sense. I

of course Jay Gatsby. The reason why I think he fits the theme is because when he first moves to

The main reason for why I think he fits the theme is because in chapter two he breaks Myrtle s

Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Wilson stood face to face, discussing in impassioned voices whether
Mrs. Wilson had any right to mention Daisy s name it s strange though because right before that
he gave Myrtle a new puppy and everyone was happy but as soon as he wanted Myrtle to stop
talking about Daisy he got mad and aggressive. Although this just happened once I think Tom fits
the theme because more than once he wanted to find out if Daisy was cheating and he would get
mad and wanted her to stop even though he himself cheated on Daisy with Myrtle. At the end of
the book after Gatsby s death Tom said to Nick that he thought Gatsby deserved to die and on

Character Analysis On Everybody Loves Raymond
Everybody loves Raymond is a show that was first released during the year of 1996 and ran all
the way to 2005. The show is centered around Ray Barone, a talented sports writer who
constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very
sarcastic, no matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have
to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the responsibilities of child care and cleaning to
his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful
show, it still plays into the stereotypical behavior of Genderroles, which ultimately prevents society
from making any real progress.
At the beginning of episode 1, Pilot it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is
Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at home mother. This feeds into the belief that
men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment
Raymond walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded
father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing the first thing about kids, let
alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all
the time. It is very rare to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. This feeds into
the stereotype that not only are women expected to be stay at home mothers, but that it should be
expected because men are not as good

Essay on Personal Narrative- Moose Hunt
Personal Narrative Moose Hunt
It was the middle of October, and it was finally time for my long awaited moose hunt. I have
waited ever since I was a little girl for this opportunity, and it was finally here. So, my father and I
packed up our stuff and left the warmth of Phoenix. We were leaving the Valley of the Sun and
headed for a place called Wyoming. After two days and fourteen long hours of driving, we made it
to our hunting unit.
The mountains were tall (11,000 feet +) and covered with bright powdery snow. It was like
nothing I had ever seen before. I was eager to set up camp and prepare for our nine day hunt. But,
Dad said that we had to drive around and check out all the good places, just to make sure that we

never have guessed that I could get ready for a hunt in 15 minutes! Of course, that did not leave
time for breakfast, or even coffee for Dad. We still made it to our spot by daybreak. We parked
behind some trees about a half mile from our last moose sighting and started stalking closer. We
were nearly to the Moose spot when we heard another vehicle coming down the trail behind us.
We thought for sure that no one would be so un sportsman like that they would just drive by us
and start shooting. It had to be obvious that we were stalking that Moose. But just in case, we
hurried it up and ran down the trail. As we turned the corner, we saw the pickup stopped in the
middle of the trail and the hunters were below the road glassing and talking loudly. And right
across the gulch in front of them was my moose with the cow and calf.
Things were just going great! I thought for sure that they were going to shoot my Moose. But my
dad wasn t going to let that happen. We ran right by the truck and set up in the nearest spot we
could see the Moose. It was a pretty bad position and I was basically laying backward in the
middle of a bush trying to get steady. The other hunters were kneeling down and looking through
their scopes. My dad could not believe his eyes and all he said was shoot, and make sure you get

American Apparel Essay
VI.Implementation Plan It is clear that American Apparel has a problem that is largely caused
by their controversial advertising materials and the poor reputation of their CEO, Dov Charney.
We believe that this can be repaired by assigning someone new to be in charge of the company s
marketing efforts and refocusing their advertising strategy to be a more wholesome reflection
of their company mission. Charney can, of course, continue to be in charge of the rest of the
company as many of his other practices such as his pro labour stance (Schuette et al., 2012) are
well regarded and respected. For the good of the company, American Apparel s very first step
should be to find and hire a new marketing professional to take over the department and ensure it
returns to the company s natural roots. This professional could be an internal hire from within the
company or an external hire such as a headhunter or an advertising agency. Hiring an agency is
important to consider as they can bring a different point of view from outside the company to help

negative effect on the company s sales and they end up losing money. However, it is likely that

Organizational Culture Influences The Working Environment
Organizational culture influences the working environment for employees and in healthcare
organizations, the culture also effects patient outcomes. AndrГ©, SjГёvold, Rannestad, Ringdal,
(2014) report, researchers have also found that nurses working in contexts with more positive
culture, leadership and evaluation reported more research utilization, staff development and lower
rates of patients and staff adverse events (p. 449). Therefore, it is important that health care
organizations focus on establishing a positive culture. Research shows that positive work
environments have similar characteristics. Nurseleaders are in an optimal position to influence
organizational culture.
Current Workplace Culture
The current workplace culture at Dartmouth Hitchcock, is a positive one this is shown by
biannual staff satisfaction surveys. The most recent staff satisfaction survey reports that staff are
engaged and like their jobs. Nurses report they feel they have a voice and matter to their direct
managers, as they feel comfortable approaching their managers with concerns. Magnet
Recognition is being pursued which further provides an infrastructure of shared decision making
for nurses as well as additional quality indicators (American Nurse Credentialing Center). Mentor
and preceptor training programs are offered and encouraged for staff that train new employees to
ensure they possess the skills they need to develop new staff. A zero tolerance policy is being

The lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was filed on a Monday afternoon in district

A local government cannot be allowed to flout Texas licensed carry laws, or any state laws,

after citizens had complained about signs banning handguns from certain buildings and
facilities. The issue of gun control is very important in government, Texas government
especially, because a good portion of Texas citizens own and carry handguns. It s a topic many
Texans are very passionate about on either side. This issue comes up a lot in presidential debates,
and for many citizens, this is one of the major determining factors on which candidate they will

Tension Betwee Rising Action
Exposition. Andrews s dream from childhood was to become a professional drummer and he
aspires to become one of the greats. Through his father s support, he is enrolled at the Prestigious
Shaffer conservatory school in New York to pursue his dream. This is portrayed in the very first 12
minutes.
Inciting moment. Andrew is selected into the group as an alternative core drummer, this is the start
of the conflicts with Fletcher and the other drummers. He struggles to become a core drummer,
eventually he succeeds but this juts sparks more problems.
Dramatic conflict. From scene 0:47:40, Andrew faces another challenge when he is introduced to a
third alternative drummer: Ryan. Andrew thinks he is humiliated by Fletcher and believes he is
better than Ryan. This increases the tension ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think scenes between 0:56 1:10:26 are the rising actions because these actions lead to the crisis
point. These actions are strongly emotionally and not rationally driven..
Crisis. Andrew s expulsion from the band and school are the crisis moment because Andrew s
time and efforts of becoming a great drummer as seen in the first part of the movie get completely
reversed. He no longer has the approval of Fletcher and he is expelled from the band and school of
his choice.
Falling action. The pressure and pace of the movie slows down considerably. Andrew s dreams
and hopes are almost lost. Also the romance he started runs cold. He also gives up on his belief and
admiration for Fletcher.
Climax. This is the most emotionally tense part after the crisis. Everything seems to turn to the
worse for Andrew once again. Failing in front of a public audience is the emotional trigger that
unleashes Andrew s pride and confidence like it was never before. He finally gets the courage to
liberate himself of Fletcher s dominance in a constructive way (not in a confrontational and

Biological Explanations Of Crime Analysis
Biological Explanations of Crime Strengths and weakness
Biological explanations of crime suggests that crime is due to the nature of an individual, this is
highly controversial as it suggests crime is innate and not a cause of the environment. These
theories suggest that criminals are born with criminal tendencies. This essay will discuss various
biological explanations of crime and point out some strengths and weaknesses. Cesare Lombroso,
whom established criminology as a science, founded this theory. He gathered facts in an empirical
study and found physiological characteristics to identify The Criminal Man , these characteristics
were; head size (circumference/diameter), non symmetric facial features, sloping forehead,

This made it seem as though the explanation was not biological but due to nurture. This could

Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920...
A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot
in the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and
equality for all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long
affected present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for
years, and even after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism
due to the color of their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy
scout during the 1920 s illustrates a small peek into the history of raceand ethnicity in America, we
can see how racial hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major
role in defining the color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties
as did any other American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic
discriminations that only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of
hatred. Accordingly, in John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of
African Americanhistory, tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. At first,
Franklin begins his story with the bright, enthusiastic attitude that he held as a young boy scout,
who simply wanted to do a good deed. He then goes on to explain how he saw a woman with a cane

  • 5. Three Categories of Discipline Essays Discipline is an essential component of every child s developmental process. From birth, the primary deficiency of children is their lack of knowledge and understanding of the world. Contrary to the negative connotation of the word s modern usage, discipline actually has origin in Latin meaning to teach. Therefore, discipline is simply the teaching of information that is necessary for children to be successful in their respective environments. In child development, discipline refers to the teaching of self control and morals intended to foster sound reasoning and behavior. The response to inappropriate behavior through physical punishment is what gives discipline the negative connotation among many in contemporary society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The success of power assertion is dependent on the child s continuation of fear of the authoritarian parent. This fear tactic has very powerful effects on children, and can result in immediate behavioral changes. This fast cure makes changing to a different discipline seem unnecessary. However, due to habituation and maturity, children begin to question authority, leading frequently to an escalation in the tactics used by the parent to maintain this absolute power. In addition, continuing use of power assertion has been linked to unjustified aggressive behavior and moral immaturity in children (Hoffman, 2000). Love withdrawal is a psychological form of discipline in which a parent employs threat, the removal of attention and love, and a variety of punishment that can range from docile (ignoring for a few seconds) to extreme (threats to leave the child). This form of punishment also is highly effective at younger ages, as it preys upon the natural dependency of a child and uses fear to induce guilt to achieve the desired behavior. As the child ages, their feeling of guilt translates into higher than normal occurrences of depression and anxiety. As adults, the children who had received love withdrawal harbor high levels of resentment and anger toward their parents (Segrin Flora, 2005). Induction includes the forms of discipline in which the parents use conversation to reason with the child to fully explain the potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Islam and Christianity Essay Comparing Islam and Christianity Although they share several basic theological ideas, Christianity and Islam differ on countless key characteristics. The most prominent differences include atonement, the identity of God, heaven, view of Jesus, and the perception of the Christian Bible. It is these not so subtle contrasts of thoughts that separate the two most prevalent religions in the world. One of the most important differences in Christianity and Islam is the concept of atonement. In Christianity, Jesus death on the cross allows Christians to repent from their sins and gain forgiveness from God. Conversely, in Islam there is no atonement from sins with Allah, though they still repent and confess their sins. While Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While they share the basic concept of heaven as a final resting place for those who have done their God s will during their time on Earth, the descriptions of heaven vary significantly. Christians believe that heaven is the dwelling place of God, and fellowship with Him provides the unimaginable happiness associated with heaven. Muslims hold a more worldly belief of heaven; a state of perpetual bliss, rewarding Muslims who have lived righteous lives. This blissful heaven fulfils its occupants earthly desires, including rewards such as dozens of virgins awaiting martyrs of Islam. The key difference between these two views of heaven is the nature of their rewards; while Islam provides earthly gifts to deserving Muslims, the Christian heaven provides spiritual satisfaction to those Christians who have maintained the faith. Yet another very important difference between Christianity and Islam is their views of the Christian Bible. The Bible serves as the guide to Christianity, offering aid and advice for daily living as well as describing the acts and life of Jesus. Before we do anything to the child we should acknowledge them what we are about to do to them for example before moving the child from the floor to the crib, caregivers should tell them what we are about to do to. In order to model respectto a child, we must respect infants and toddlers as worthy people An example of a respect interaction that I encountered was sitting outside of James Hall, in Brooklyn College. • 9. Examples Of Hyperbole In The Crucible In 1951, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play referring to the time in Massachusetts during the Salem witch trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a time period when people were being randomly accused of being witches by one another. The people who were accused of being witches had to either give false confessions or were executed in terrible ways. In The Crucible, the accused were sentenced to death by hangings, pressings, died in prison. In the play, nineteen people were hung, about thirteen died in prison, and one died by being pressed. In the play, the author Miller uses many examples of hyperbole and exaggeration as the characters are talking . The author also used imagery to describe the settings in the play. In The Crucible, the author wanted to give us a real life description of how that time period might have been. As the story goes on, we see the craziness of the salem witch trials and how absurd it was. One literary device that Arthur Miller showed in The Crucible was hyperbole. Throughout the play many parts are shown where the dialogue shows examples of hyperboles. For example, this quote said by John Proctor, Oh, Elizabeth, your justice would freeze beer! (p.27). This quote by John is not to be taken literal but at the time John and Elizabeth do not have a great relationship. This is due to the fact that John Proctor committed adultery by falling in love with one of the local girls, Abigail Williams. Another great example of a hyperbole is How high did she fly, how high (p. 69) At this time Betty, a girl who was a part of the series that began the salem witch trials was asleep and could not wake. One of the townspeople, Mrs. Putnam said she had heard Betty had been seen flying over Mr. Collins barn. The townspeople were quick to start rumors of witches in the town. They thought that young Betty had been cursed by a witch and that she why she could not wake. The people of the town were starting to go crazy and were letting their fear go to their head. Lastly John Proctor says Why? I have no business in Salem (p. 89). He is talking to his wife Elizabeth after he has been gone all day. His wife thinks he went the town but John said he did not. • 10. The French and Indian War Essay The French and Indian War was a conflict in North America in which Great Britain fought France and their Native American allies. It lasted from 1756 until 1763, so it was also known as the Seven Years War. At the peace conference in 1763, the British received Canada from France and Florida from Spain, but permitted France to keep its West Indian sugar islands and gave Louisiana to Spain. The treaty strengthened the American colonies significantly by removing their European rivals to the north and south and opening the Mississippi Valley to westward expansion. Within a month, they took Fort Frontenac at the western end of the river. Then they arrived at Quebec, where General James Wolfe won another important victory in the Plains of Abraham in September 1759. However, both he and the French commander, the Marquis de Montcalm, died soon after the battle. When the British captured Montreal in September 1760, the French lost their last foothold in Canada. Soon, Spain decided to help France fight against England, and throughout the rest of the war Britain focused on capturing French and Spanish territories in other places throughout the world. The cost of funding the war was so massive that the ensuing debt nearly destroyed the British government. This debt caused most of the grievances between the British and the colonists, eventually leading to the Revolutionary War. This resource loss had a massive impact on Britain. The outcome of the war never truly made up for the resources the British had to use to win, so they had to find another way to make up for the lost funds. This was achieved by taxing the colonies on many types of goods. The first thing Britain wanted to do was stop illegal smuggling. They attempted to do this through the Sugar Act. Sucker Punch Gameplay Engineer Questions Sucker Punch Gameplay Engineer Questions Question 1 Imagine that you re designing a new attack for an enemy in a melee focused third person action game. Just to choose a random example, let s say it s a Minotaur in a God of War style game. What factors do you consider when designing the attack, and how do you prioritize these factors? Basic factors about the attack: 1.Area: The area in which the attack could potentially fall upon 2.Duration: The duration of the attack 3.Frequency: How often this attack is used 4.Range: The maximum distance the attack can reach 5.Size: The area of effect of the attack 6.Damage: Damage per attack 7.Effects: Extra properties of attack, like poison or slow effect 8.Cooldown: How long does it take to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the attack speed will be compared to player s movement speed, and attack area will be compared to the size of the fighting room. Among these factors, the most important one should be Dogdgeability. Like in the famous action game Dark Souls, bosses and enemies attack damage is usually quite high and cause players to die a lot. However, the game still makes players think it is fair, because a lot of attacks are dodgeable by skillful players. If the attack cannot be dodged systematically, we will be limited when adjusting other factors of the attack, because the players will always receive damage from the attack. As a result, the attack cannot be too strong, and the game will be less exciting. On the other hand, if the attack can be dogdged, we can make it as strong as we like and with all kinds of effects. This increases the feeling of achievement when player successfully dodged it. After we design how it could be dodged, we can measure by playtesting how difficult it is to dodge the attack. After that, we can assign the damage inversely proportional to the rate of successful dodge. In summary, we could prioritize the factors by groups as following: (Dodgeability: Area, Duration, Range, Size, Subattack Counts, Preparation, Room Coverage, Smartness, Movement) (Frequency, Damage, Effects, Cooldown, Animation) (Properties, Environment Destruction) We could further prioritize the factors in dodgeability group as follows. • 13. Global Warming And Greenhouse Effect The greenhouse effect is caused by the emission of greenhouse gases which prevent the outgoing radiation of the sun from returning back into space. This entrapped energy of the sun results in the excessive heating up of the earth, and causes the much spoken about phenomenon of global warming, thus exhibiting the relation between global warmingand the greenhouse effect. Introduction: The greenhouse effect is a natural warming process of the earth. The theory is that when the sun s energy reaches the earth, some of it is reflected back to space while the rest is absorbed. The absorbed energy warms the earth s surface which then emits heat energy back toward space in the form of long wave radiation. This outgoing radiation is partially trapped by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor which then radiate the energy in all directions, warming the earth s surface and atmosphere. What is Global Warming?: What happens when too much carbon dioxide goes into the Earth s atmosphere? The condition known as Global Warming occurs. Global Warming is the rising of the Earth s surface temperature due to chemicals in the atmosphere. Global Warming has many threats on the climate and even the health of the people on this planet. This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an esteemed Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus of her novels to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely selective world that was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period, including that of Austen, were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that they live in the shadow of men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered by means of the money that they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral funds. The social structure was hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic upper classes and middle classes, ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely mingled with each other. Austen intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels that focus on mannerisms, social communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay Gender and Genre, describes Austen s style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity, romantic desire and gender relations as shaped by the social context. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of research supports the ideathat a good teacher student relationship helps the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore. Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on various topics. Nikole states that administrators have tried to close the enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black and white students that was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts were mostly black and latino, these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not doing much to help the fact that children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least experienced teachers, which was a large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The transfer law is a law that gave students in unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a nearby accredited schools for free (Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). No, teens should not be able to purchase video games that contain violent content. Violent video games in a person s early years could result in much, much worse things later on in life. • 33. Character Analysis On Everybody Loves Raymond Everybody loves Raymond is a show that was first released during the year of 1996 and ran all the way to 2005. The show is centered around Ray Barone, a talented sports writer who constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very sarcastic, no matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the responsibilities of child care and cleaning to his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful show, it still plays into the stereotypical behavior of Genderroles, which ultimately prevents society from making any real progress. At the beginning of episode 1, Pilot it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at home mother. This feeds into the belief that men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment Raymond walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing the first thing about kids, let alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all the time. It is very rare to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. This feeds into the stereotype that not only are women expected to be stay at home mothers, but that it should be expected because men are not as good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have waited ever since I was a little girl for this opportunity, and it was finally here. So, my father and I packed up our stuff and left the warmth of Phoenix. We were leaving the Valley of the Sun and headed for a place called Wyoming. After two days and fourteen long hours of driving, we made it to our hunting unit. The mountains were tall (11,000 feet +) and covered with bright powdery snow. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was eager to set up camp and prepare for our nine day hunt. We parked behind some trees about a half mile from our last moose sighting and started stalking closer. We were nearly to the Moose spot when we heard another vehicle coming down the trail behind us. We thought for sure that no one would be so un sportsman like that they would just drive by us and start shooting. It had to be obvious that we were stalking that Moose. But just in case, we hurried it up and ran down the trail. As we turned the corner, we saw the pickup stopped in the middle of the trail and the hunters were below the road glassing and talking loudly. And right across the gulch in front of them was my moose with the cow and calf. Things were just going great! I thought for sure that they were going to shoot my Moose. But my dad wasn t going to let that happen. We ran right by the truck and set up in the nearest spot we could see the Moose. • 36. American Apparel Essay VI.Implementation Plan It is clear that American Apparel has a problem that is largely caused by their controversial advertising materials and the poor reputation of their CEO, Dov Charney. We believe that this can be repaired by assigning someone new to be in charge of the company s marketing efforts and refocusing their advertising strategy to be a more wholesome reflection of their company mission. Charney can, of course, continue to be in charge of the rest of the company as many of his other practices such as his pro labour stance (Schuette et al., 2012) are well regarded and respected. For the good of the company, American Apparel s very first step should be to find and hire a new marketing professional to take over the department and ensure it returns to the company s natural roots. This professional could be an internal hire from within the company or an external hire such as a headhunter or an advertising agency. • 42. Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920... A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot in the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and equality for all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long affected present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for years, and even after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism due to the color of their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy scout during the 1920 s illustrates a small peek into the history of raceand ethnicity in America, we can see how racial hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major role in defining the color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties as did any other American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic discriminations that only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of hatred. Accordingly, in John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of African Americanhistory, tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. At first, Franklin begins his story with the bright, enthusiastic attitude that he held as a young boy scout, who simply wanted to do a good deed.
