This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
3. Introduction
In the modern times, Communication and
Technology are very closely related.
It has become impossible for institutions to run
without the modern technology.
Telephone, Television and Internet have become
an integral part of day to day life.
5. Communication Technology
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an
extended term for information technology (IT) which
stresses the role of unified communications and the
integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and
wireless signals), computers as well as necessary
enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-
visual systems, which enable users to access, store,
transmit, and manipulate information.

7. Telecommunications
Telecommunications involves the use of
electrical devices such as the telegraph,
telephone, and teleprinter, as well as the use of
radio and microwave communications, as well as
fiber optics and their associated electronics, plus
the use of the orbiting satellites and the
Internet.
10. Pager
• A pager is a small telecommunications device
that receives (and, in some cases, transmits)
alert signals and/or short messages. This type
of device is convenient for people expecting
telephone calls, but who are not near a
telephone set to make or return calls
immediately.
• "Dad, I want a pager" - Motorola Commercial
11. Radio
• It started with the discovery of "radio waves" -
electromagnetic waves that have the capacity
to transmit music, speech, pictures and other
data invisibly through the air.
16. The Digital Exchange
Computers are digital devices, and their
functioning is based on mathematical
operations with only two values: zero and one.
The binary numeral system is the most suitable
for this purpose, as it provides the most basic
processing of electrical signals: 1 – signal, 0 – no
signal.
17. The Digital Exchange
In computer hardware, any operation or piece of
information must be translated into machine-
readable code.
18. Bit & Byte
• This mathematical system is the basis of the
units of measurement used in information
technologies:
• Bit – the smallest unit of information, either 0
or 1. Its unit symbol is b or bit.
• Byte – equal to eight bits; its unit symbol is B.
