Change direction of a yacht procedure   – Tacking  Assume boat position is closehald   port tack ( wind from left side ) Skipper Check if cockpit is ready for Tacking Call “ Tacking “  and start steering yacht to windward  Keep steering yacht Stop steering when yacht position get Closehold ( port tack ) Jib sail trimmer windward ( port ) Set winch handle and let Skipper know you are ready Ready for pull in Jib sheet with two crew ( winch and sheet hold )  Wait jib sheet leeward side released then pulling in jib sheet Pulling in jib sheet until both side of telltail get right wind flow Jib sail trimmer leeward ( starboard )  Hold jib sheet by hand and let Skipper know you are ready Wait yacht bow toward wind direction ( Jib sail start recieving back wind )  When bow start steering to leeward side, release jib sheet completely Support/help windward side crew Tacking completed
Change direction of a yacht procedure  – Jibing  Assume boat position is running starboard tack ( wind from right side ) Skipper Check if cockpit is ready for jibing Call “ jibe “  and start steering yacht to leeward  Make sure boom reach to center, steer yacht from dead running to starboard running Stop steering when yacht position is starboard running Main Sail trimmer Jib sail trimmer can handle main sail sheet as well Pulling in main sheet as quick as possible till boom reach center position When yacht steer to starboard, ease main sheet gradually  Adjust main sail sheet Jib sail trimmer windward ( port ) Trimming jib sail and be ready for jibe Ease jib sheet to trim jib sail at last moment  Release jib sheet completely Help other crew Jib sail trimmer leeward ( starboard )  Set winch handle and set jib sheet to winch Wait for jib sheet ( port side ) released  Pulling in jib sheet to trim jib sail Trim jib sheet to adjust jib sail right position Jibing completed
Running sail Gennaker What’s Gennaker  Sail for downwind Easy handling ( without spinpole ) Head – Spin Halyard To mast head  Tack  - Bow split line Clew – Spin sheet to cockpit ( Port & Starboard ) Socks make easy to hoist and drop Hoist with socks on then socks down
Structure of Gennaker When we hoist Gennaker, socks should be on Head – Spin Halyard To mast head  Tack  - Bow split line Clew – Spin sheet to cockpit ( Port & Starboard ) Socks is controlled by two blue lines
Hoist Gennaker  Assume boat position is abeam to broadreach Skipper Call “ Gennaker Set “ Call “ Hoist “  Keep yacht direction straight Bow man Bring Gennaker bag to bow and set Tack and Crew  Support Gennaker going out from a sail bag Check all lines are clear then go back to cockpit Mast man Take spin halyard line to head of Gennaker Pull in Spin Halyard to top Then Socks up by blue line Check all lines are clear then go back to cockpit Cockpit ( Spin sheet trimmer )  Make sure spin sheets are not tangled  Farling jib line to fold jib sail and trim Gennaker by spin sheet Fly Gennaker as far as you can  Hoist Gennaker completed
Jibe with  Gennaker  Assume boat position is abeam to broadreach   ( starboad tack ) Skipper Call “ preparing for Jibe “ Call “ Jibe “  and steer a yacht to leeward When Gennaker clew fly further than forestay, steer bow to left ( windward ) Keep steer slowly till right direction ( now yacht is port tack ) Main Sail Trimmer Pulling in main sheet until boom reach to center position  Watch out boom movement and prepare for jibe  Check boom go to starboard then start ease main sheet Ease main sheet until main sail reach right position Bow man Go bow and check spin sheet from starboard is clear Check starboard side spin sheet are outside of forestay Support Gennaker movement to clear forestay Check all sheet clear ( especially port spin sheet ) Cockpit ( Spin sheet trimmer port )  Trim spin sheet ( port ) to keep Gennaker fly Ease spin sheet to fly Gennaker as far After make sure Gennaker clew clear forestay, release spinsheet ( port ) Stand port side to check luff of Gennaker to trim it Cockpit ( Spin sheet trimmer starboard )  Pulling in jib sheet to set jib about 6 feet ( avoid Gennaker tangle ) Put starboad spin sheet on winch to prepare jibe After Gennaker clew goes starboad side, start pulling in spinsheet ( Starboard ) to fly Gennaker  Take care starboard winch with spin sheet- work with starboad crew Jibing Gennaker completed
Gennaker Down Assume boat position is Port tack broadreach Skipper Call “ Prepare for Gennaker Down “ Call “ Gennaker socks down “  To make sure socks down then call Gennaker down Bow man Going bow and prepare for Gennaker Down  Pulling in socks line to down socks all the way to bottom Work with Mast man to bring Gennaker down Mast man Take Socks line for socks down Work with Bow Man to sock down Release Spin Halyard to down Gennaker Check all lines are clear then go back to cockpit Cockpit ( Spin sheet trimmer )  Release Jib furler line and pulling in Jib to open it Easing spin sheet to help socks down Trim Jib sheet to keep boat speed  Gennaker Down completed
