Glial cells provide mechanical support to neurons and act as insulators to prevent unwanted neuronal impulses. They can remove debris, repair nervous tissue, store neurotransmitters, and maintain an optimal environment for neuronal functions. Various types of glial cells, such as oligodendrocytes and ependymal cells, perform specific roles, including myelination and material exchange between the brain and cerebrospinal fluid.
