4. 33.2 ORGANIZATION OF NERVOUS SYSTEM
*The Central Nervous System is the
brain and the spinal chord.
5. PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
*The Peripheral Nervous
System- consists of the
sensory and motor
neurons that carry
information to and from
the CNS.
6. THE BRAIN
Facts about your Brain:
• *The brain is the control center of the body
• *Each part of the brain controls different
thoughts or actions of the body.
• You have over 100 Billion neurons
• The Cerebrum is the largest part and is
divided into two halves
• The two halves communicate through a
bundle of nerves.
7. PARTS OF THE BRAIN
*Cerebrum- largest part of the brain;
controls muscles, thinking, learning,
memory, decision making, and
interpreting signals from the sense
organs.
8. PARTS OF THE BRAIN
*Cerebellum- located below the
cerebrum, helps to coordinate
muscle movements.
9. PARTS OF THE BRAIN
*Brainstem connects the brain to the spinal cord.
*Medulla is in the lower part of the brainstem.
This control involuntary body functions such as
breathing, digestion, and heart rate.
10. SPINAL CORD
*The spinal cord is also part of the
CNS. (central nervous system)
*The spinal cord sends messages
from the brain to the rest of the
body, and back again.
It is a ropelike structure made of many
neurons.
It runs from the base of the brain down
to the lower part of the back and is
protected by the backbone.

1. Trace the pictures of the brain and the
neuron.
Be sure to label all the parts.
