2. Neil
Patel
Introduction
US President Barack Obama recognized
Neil Patel as a top 100 entrepreneur
under the age of 30!
Neil has been active for the past 10 years
and has created 2 of the most successful
Internet companies, CrazyEgg and
KISSmetrics. He also runs a really
successful blog, QuickSprout.
He had worked with large corporations
like AOL, Amazon, Viacom and HP.
3. “I’m kind of a big deal”, I love this statement. What
sets you apart from other entrepreneurs?
Nothing really…
I’m just like most entrepreneurs.
I want to go out there, build something I am passionate about, and solve a major problem
people are facing.
As for qualities… a lot of us entrepreneurs have the same ones like optimism and A.D.D.
4. You started young. When did you find the
entrepreneur streak in you?
When I was 16 years old, I realized that I couldn’t live the life I wanted without being an
entrepreneur.
Plus a lot of people in my family were ones, so I thought I would tag along.
5. What kind of hurdles did you experience and how
did you overcome them?
It wasn’t one hurdle, I had to overcome most of them.
I’ve made one too many mistakes compared to the successes I’ve had.
The key to overcoming anything is to learn from it, keep pushing forward, and never
make the same mistakes again.
6. Often people are reluctant to become self-
employed and let go off a job, what would you
tell them?
If you are really passionate about something, then go and do it.
If not, stay where you are.
Don’t become self-employed for riches, do it because you believe in something.
7. What have you learned as an entrepreneur?
I’ve learned a lot of things, but the biggest thing I’ve learned is that you need to make
decisions based off data.
Assuming what you are doing is legal and ethical, you should base your business decisions
off of data.
You’ll be shocked on what the data will show versus what you think is the best for you
business.
You can also read this post to learn about the qualities of an entrepreneur.
8. We come across many startups but not all of
them get success. Why do you think this
happens? Or better, why do they fail?
Most of them don’t reach product market fit.
Or more importantly, the founders aren’t learning from their mistakes.
The other big one is that people give up because they realize it’s not easy.
9. QuickSprout.com is an immensely popular
blog. What strategies did you follow to turn it
into an authority blog?
You have to build a community.
I break down how I did it for Quick Sprout.
You can check it out here.
10. What all does one need to initiate an online
startup model?
You just need to be scrappy and ready to execute.
No one can tell you what you need, you more so just have to go out there and figure things
out.
11. How are Crazy Egg and Kissmetrics useful for
business owners?
Crazy Egg helps you understand what elements on your are not user friendly. You can then
go and fix those things to make your website more user friendly.
KISSmetrics helps you understand the metrics that are most important to your business such
as LTV, churn, revenue per customer, marketing attribution.
You can then use those metrics to grow your business.
12. If not an entrepreneur, what would you be?
I would probably work in the television or film industry.
I really love that space and have always wanted to get into it.
