If branding is soimportant, why isn’t everyone doing it? The answer is quite simple. First and foremost,most people don’t understand how crucial branding really is. Second, those who dounderstand the importance of branding think it’s not a feasible endeavor unless you area huge Fortune 500 corporation with an endless marketing budget. No, I haven’t had dinner with a T-Rex and I haven’t hadmargaritas with a mammoth. I have, however, seen successful businesses andprofessionals fade out and die because they weren’t willing to change with the times.Businesses that were once leaders in their industries fell to the wayside because theyavoided change as though it were the plague. Don’t be a dinosaur. Don’t let a stubbornrefusal to change and adapt get in the way of the success you deserve.The old network marketing techniques just don’t work anymore. If you’re going door to door,calling family and friends and placing ads in the local newspaper, you’re not going tosucceed. Sure, you might get a few prospects, but you’re not going to achieve thesuccess you deserve. Why?   6. 6. Making a Name for YourselfWeve all heard the saying “make a name for yourself.” The question is, what exactlydoes it mean? The answer can be summed up in one word, and that word is “branding”.For many people, branding is an abstract concept. You have somewhat of an idea of whatit means, but youre not exactly sure how to put it into words or why it applies to networkmarketing.Lets set the record straight right now. Branding is crucial for the success of anybusiness, and that includes yours. When people buy something from you, they aren’t justbuying your product. They are also buying you, as a brand.Think of it this way. Two people are offering the same exact product or service. PersonA is a great guy. You know him well, he’s taken you to lunch, you’ve chatted via emailon a regular basis for the past year. Person B, on the other hand, you do not know fromAdam. Ask yourself, who are you going to buy from? Of course you’re going to buy fromPerson A.Your decision to make a purchase from Person A has nothing to do with the product andeverything to do with your relationship with him. Hey, Person A could probably chargemore for his product and you’d still buy it from him and not person B. This is why it is soimportant to build relationships with people so they will partner with you on the strength ofthose relationships.Become Your Own “You Inc”“You Inc” is a concept that was introduced to network marketers by Mike Dillard, and itstaken the network marketing industry to an entirely new level.Right now, when you are sourcing leads for your network marketing business, you arepromoting the brand of the company that you are a distributor for. Now ask yourself, whatwould happen if you started branding yourself and promoting yourself as a brand instead ofpromoting someone else’s brand? 5
  7. 7. If you want to be successful, you cannot just market the brand of the company you are adistributor of. You have to brand yourself as an individual.Think of it this way. How successful would Oprah be if she were to become a distributor ofan MLM opportunity? The fact that she doesnt need the money is irrelevant. Just think,how successful would she be?You and I both know that millions of people would be clamoring to join Oprahsdownline. It wouldnt matter what she was selling. For all we know, she could be sellingfuzzy dice for rear-view mirrors. Shed still make a killing. Why? Because Oprah is her ownbrand, and people love it.You need to think like Oprah. You need to brand yourself. You need to become the nextbiggest and greatest thing. You, not the products or services you market, but you as aperson. That’s where attraction marketing comes in.What is attraction marketing? In the most simple of terms, attraction marketing is a wayto work smart, not hard. Let’s say you have five different products to promote. If you justmarket each product individually, you have to start from scratch for each and everyproduct. With attraction marketing you market yourself, your ideals, your personality,your knowledge. You don’t market a product or service. In essence, you are marketingyou. It doesn’t matter what product or opportunity you want to sell, because the peopleyou market to want to hear what you have to say. This means that each and every timeyou have a new product, service or opportunity, you have a core group of leads tomarket it to. You’ve already done all of the lead generation work. You can hit the groundrunning right from the get go.Blogs play a very important role in branding and attraction marketing, as do yourFacebook page and your Twitter account. We’ll discuss Twitter and Facebook morelater on in this report, but right now it’s time to talk about why you need a blog. 6
  8. 8. Blog or BustAl Roker does it, Donald Trump does it, even Paris Hilton does it. Everyone is bloggingnowadays, and network marketers are no exception to the rule.There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. If you want to be successful in networkmarketing, you are going to need a blog. Your blog will help you build your brand,establish credibility, gain a following and tap into that priceless organic search enginetraffic.Establishing a blog is a little more complicated than establishing a Twitter account or aFacebook page. You will be using Facebook and Twitter in addition to your blog, but we’lltalk more about those later. Right now let’s just focus on your blog, because it may be thesingle-most important tool for establishing your identity on the Web.You cant just visit a website and create an instant blog account. Sure, there are sites outthere that will give you a free blog that is overloaded with advertisements and lackingin features, but its not going to send the message you want to convey to potentialleads.If youre going to do a blog (and trust me, you are going to), then you need your blog tostand out from the crowd, and above all, you want it to be professional. Unless youre anexpert in blog design and coding, I highly suggest hiring a pro.Ive seen two ends of the spectrum when it comes to creating blogs, and each time I seepeople doing these things I shake my head and wonder why. There are those whoinvest absolutely nothing in their blogs - not a dime - and then they expect that blog togenerate constant leads and tremendous results. Get real!If you dont invest time or money into your blog, its not going to do a thing for yourbusiness and you’re going to be missing out on one of the most productive leadgeneration tools on the Internet. 7
  9. 9. Now, there’s also the other end of the spectrum. I’ve known people who went “all out” andpaid thousands of dollars to have their blog websites built for them. Do not be one of thosepeople. If you spend thousands of dollars to have your blog designed, youre throwingaway money that would be better spent marketing your business.There is never a reason to pay thousands of dollars for a blog, but you do have to investsomething or your blog isnt going to generate the results you need. Ive worked with thegood, the bad and the ugly when it comes to the world of blog design and support. Over timeIve been able to find the best blog experts at the lowest possible prices.I personally use Not only are they able to create custom blogs for lessthan $300 (and trust me, thats a steal), but they can also provide you with a customTwitter background to brand your identity with your Twitter followers. I’ll be telling youmore about Twitter later on in this report, but for now just remember will be able to help you brand your Twitter identity. When you visit theirsite, also check out their YouTube background services. If you’re not using YouTubeyet, you will be eventually and you’re going to want the right background. This is the place togo for that service.Why do I use The quality is great, they are always on schedule andtheyve never let me down. Your blog is one thing you cannot cut corners on. Do it right, oryoure going to regret it later. Trust me on this one.Putting Your Blog to WorkOnce your blog is built for you (and if you use the professionals I direct you to, that will besooner rather than later), you can begin posting to your blog and start buildingrelationships on your site.Technically, you can post anything you want on your blog, but you should design yourposts around your business niche. Become an expert in your industry. When your bloghas become established, you want it to be the first place people turn to for informationand advice.When making posts to your blog, be sure that the content you are posting providesvalue to your readers. Also make sure you update your blog regularly - at least every 8

By providing new and valuable content on a regular basis, yourblog readers will keep coming back for more.You also need to pay attention to keywords when creating your blog content. If youintegrate keywords into the content of your blog, the search engines will pick up onthose keywords. Once that happens, people who search the Web will find your sitewhen they search for the keywords youre using and youll start getting traffic to your sitewithout even trying.Above all else, keep your blog fun and informative. Interact with your visitors. Respond tocomments (its great to get comments on your blog posts) and communicate with yourreaders. You can even generate an email marketing list by having people sign up for anewsletter from your blog page. In fact, this is a must. You want to generate leads from yourblog, and in order to do that you need to get your visitors’ contact information. How do you doit? By offering something for free.Offer your visitors a free report or a free eBook, but don’t let them download it directlyfrom your website. Place a form on your blog where users can request your free reportor eBook. However, this request for your free product isn’t going to be your typical webform. This is going to be an opt-in form where people sign up to receive email offersfrom you. They join your opt-in list, you send them the product. Of course you don’thave time to be sending out hundreds of different emails each week so you can get anaccount for $9.95 per month to have everything sent automatically at Then you don’t have to do a thing. Theemail opt-ins come pouring in and everything is done on the back end, without you everhaving to click a button.While you’re not making money off the report that is being sent out to your opt-in sign ups,you’re getting something valuable in return - a viable lead added to your email list. It iscrucial to build this opt-in list. These are the email addresses you will be marketing yourproducts and services to.At this point you understand that your blog is going to provide you with endlessopportunities for attraction marketing and that it is going to help you establish credibility,generate leads and much, much more. That is not, however, where your branding andattraction marketing efforts are going to end. Your blog is just one crucial component in yourbranding and attraction marketing efforts. That wasunheard of before the Internet exploded, and Facebook has definitely changed the waynetwork marketing is done.The question is, how exactly can you use Facebook to brand yourself and promote yournetwork marketing opportunity?Build Your ProfileBy now you should have your very own Facebook page. Remember, a few moments agoI told you to do it right then and there. Photographs can goa long way in helping to do this, but you have to make sure you choose the right ones.A Picture Can Say a Thousand WordsWhen setting up your Facebook page the first thing you need to do is choose thephotograph for your profile. Make sure you choose it with care.You may love your cat or dog, but dont use their photograph for your Facebook profile.No one is going to do business with Fido or Fluffy. Dont post a picture of yourselfshowing off last years Halloween costume. Definitely dont post a picture of yourselfhaving “too much fun” at that party last weekend. Post a professional picture that wouldbe worthy of a business card or a bio published in a national business magazine.Once youve selected the perfect profile photo, you can upload other photographs to yourFacebook photo album. This is where you can post pictures of yourself with Fido or Fluffy.This is where you can include snapshots of you and your kids on summer vacation.This is where you can show off that great Halloween costume.Let the pictures you post project the image you want your leads to see. Give them an ideaof who you are, what kind of lifestyle your level of success can provide, and why theyshould listen to what you have to offer. Let your pictures sell you and youropportunities. As the saying goes, a picture can speak a thousand words.Before you get too excited and upload every photo youve ever taken, keep a few things inmind. First and foremost, dont upload them all your photographs at once. You canupload quite a few over the first one or two days, but make sure you continuouslyupload photos on a regular basis.When you regularly update your Facebook photos, you will keep people coming backfor more. Facebook users love looking at other peoples photographs. Give them whatthey want and theyll be back time and time again to see whats new and what youre upto. 12
  14. 14. Content is KingThe content you add to your page will be just as important as the photographs, so make sureyou spend some time on the words you’re putting on your Facebook page. Dont just talkabout your business. People on Facebook are not going to take any interest in you if all youtalk about is what your business opportunity has to offer.When creating your Facebook page, talk about you. Talk about your likes, your dislikes,your hobbies, your interests, etc. Let people get to know you. Once they know who youare, they will be more likely to listen to what you have to say about network marketing.Once you have enough personal information on your Facebook page, then its time todiscuss business.Post some information about your network marketing business, but do it the right way. Tellyour visitors why you love what you do. Tell them what it has done for you, your familyand your lifestyle. Dont try to sell them on it - yet. Think of it as telling someone you dontknow what you do for a living and why you love it.Remember, youre not making a hard sale here, youre just giving your visitors someinformation about who you are, what you do and why you love your job. Eighty-percent ofyour content should be fun and conversational.You should provide your readers with content that brings value to their lives. Give themtips, share some inspirational quotes, provide informative articles and engagingconversations. Video marketing and article marketing on Facebook are a great way toget your readers coming back for more. Then, once you have your visitors hooked, theremaining 20-percent of your content is where you pitch your affiliate products andbusiness opportunities. Remember, all work and no play makes for a boring Facebookpage.If Content is King, Keywords are Heir to the ThroneWhen creating content for your Facebook page, make sure you focus on keywords. If youdont know what keywords are, then heres a quick rundown for you. 13

For example, if you wanted tosearch online for “network marketing” then “network marketing” would be the keyword.Make sure you make use of keywords if you want to maximize your Facebook success. Itwill help other Facebook users find you and will help you connect with people who havecommon goals and interests.Dont Forget Your BlogWhen creating your Facebook profile, dont forget to include a link to your blog. Youmay not have one yet, but you should have already ordered your blog through if you are serious about taking your life to the next level.When configuring your Facebook page, make sure you enter your blog’s URL and thatyour profile settings are adjusted so that other Facebook users can see your blog link.Start Adding FriendsOnce your Facebook profile is complete you can begin adding friends to your network.Search for the groups that are related to your business and make sure you join aminimum of 25 groups. Look for groups that share your common interests and groups thatyou feel would make good prospects for your business opportunity.When requesting friends on Facebook you need to word your request the right way orpeople wont accept it. Say something like, “Hello, Im looking to connect withlikeminded people, such as yourself. Please accept my friend request.” When youretargeting likeminded people, youre targeting potential leads. Don’t be afraid to go intogroups and ask people to join your Friends list. The people in these groups are thepeople you want to target because they are active entrepreneurs and networkmarketers.It is very important that you only target network marketers and entrepreneurs. You needto position yourself so that you are connecting with people who will be excited about 14

If you targetentrepreneurs, you’ll be targeting people who will understand your goals and willrespond to your offers. Trust me, teenagers interested in World of Warcraft andhousewives who want to discuss next week’s dinner menu aren’t going to fit into yourFacebook niche. You need to keep your Facebook page on focus, and targeting the rightpeople is the way to do it.Now, before you go full speed ahead and send friend requests to everyone and anyone whomeets your criteria, remember that you dont want to get too carried away at this point.When you begin searching Facebook for contacts, youre going to see hundreds of possibleleads. No matter how many potential leads you may come up with on your first day ofFacebook, resist the urge to shoot off a “friend” invite to them all. Youre going to run intotrouble if you do.When sending out Facebook invites, only send out 15 invites per day. If you send more than15 friend invites per day, Facebook is going to have an issue and your account may getdeleted. Dont risk it. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.Twitter MarketingOnce you’ve set yourself up with a Facebook page, it’s time to familiarize yourself withTwitter. Two years ago a “twitter” was just a sound a bird makes. Today it is the biggestsocial media phenomena on the Web.Twitter is somewhat like Facebook in the fact that you use it to build a network offollowers who want to hear what you have to say, but where Twitter is different is that youcan communicate with your network with a single “tweet” rather than continuous updatesto your Facebook page.Dont get me wrong. Twitter will not replace Facebook in your network marketingendeavors. Rather, Twitter is a tool that you can use in addition to Facebook tomaximize your Internet marketing techniques. You can even send your Twitter followersa “tweet” telling them to join your Facebook page to help build your Facebook network.At this point youre probably wondering what the heck a “tweet” is. To explain it in thesimplest of terms, imagine that youre a bird. If you want to communicate with other 15

Your Twitter network is made up of the other birds in yourflock.When you “tweet” at your network, you are simply sending a short message (140characters or less) to let them know what youre up to. These tweets can go to yourfollowers Twitter homepages or even their cell phones, depending on how they have theiraccount set up. When you send out a “tweet” your followers can respond to you in real time,initiating real, live conversations.When people perform a search on the Twitter website they can see all of theconversations going on there. If youre tweeting about network marketing and someonesearches for “network marketing” on Twitter, theyll be able to see your conversation andmay even decide to become one of your followers.Twitter is a great way to generate network marketing leads and build onlinerelationships, and we all know that successful network marketing happens throughbuilding relationships.Spreading Your WingsSo how exactly do you spread your wings and fly on Twitter? First, you need a Twitteraccount. To get a feel for how a Twitter page looks and how it works, go to youve navigated around a bit, click the “Sign Up” link to create a Twitter account ofyour own. Then come back to my main page and click the “follow” button. Youll start gettingall of my updates and “tweets” when you do this.Once you have your own Twitter account, its time to build your Twitter network. Startlooking on Twitter for users who have the same interests as you. Focus on people whowould make good leads or people who are connected to people who would make goodleads. Then “follow” these people with your Twitter account.Youre probably wondering, how does following someone else help build your Twitternetwork? Its simple. Many of the people you decide to follow will follow you in return. If 16
  18. 18. you follow someone and they havent followed you within a week, then unfollow them andmove on. Before you know it, youll have a loyal network of Twitter followers just waitingto see what youre going to tweet next.Backpage.comTwitter and Facebook are amazing resources for attraction marketing, but you need aresource for some good, old-fashioned direct marketing as well. Not every website you usewill be of a social nature. You’ll need to find websites to place your classified ads. Sites thathave the sole purpose of advertising the opportunities you have to offer. One site that isperfect for this is of as a Craigslist for network marketers. Craigslist is a greatwebsite, but the restrictions can make it very difficult to post your ads there. TheCraigslist “ad police” seem to have a dislike for network marketers, and they love to flag ourposts and get them deleted. I honestly wish these people would actually read the ads theyare flagging. If they put as much energy into network marketing as they do into flaggingposts, they could achieve some real levels of success! Fortunately, is not nearly as restrictive as Craigslist and you can get some qualityleads by posting your ads on their site.Back in the “old days” network marketers had to put their classified ads in localnewspapers. These classified ads were expensive and they didn’t reach a very largeaudience. A network marketer could spend $30 or $50 on a classified ad in the localpaper and maybe reach a few thousand people, of which a few hundred might actuallyread the ad. Of those few hundred, a couple might even call (if they were lucky).Thanks to the Internet, classified advertising has become much more effective. Usingclassified sites like, you can reach millions, not thousands. If your ad isgood, can provide you with dozens of leads a day. It’s much moreeffective than newspaper advertising, and it doesn’t cost a dime.To get started you need to go to and sign up for an account. Thennavigate the site and post your ads to the appropriate categories. When placing yourclassified ads on, make sure they are well-written and that they adhere tothe rules. Remember, your ad will be read by millions. Make sure it’swell-written or you won’t be able to maximize your results. 17
  19. 19. To get a good idea of what your ad should look like, take a look aroundthe site. Don’t copy anyone’s ad directly. Imitation may be a form of flattery, butplagiarism will get you in trouble. Just take a look around to get some ideas of how adsare formatted and written. It’s okay to get some ideas, but never copy and paste.When running ads on, start slow and then build from there. Manysuccessful network marketers have multiple ads running at any given time. See which adsperform the best and fine-tune your campaigns over time. 18
  20. 20. Thinking BigYou now understand the basics of network marketing and Internet marketing. Think of itas graduating from Internet and Network Marketing 101 at this point. You’ve got a greatfoundation, but if you want to achieve real success, you need to start thinking big.It’s time to begin thinking like an entrepreneur, not just a distributor. You cant just focus onone stream of income. Im not saying you should walk away from any networkmarketing opportunity, but make sure you recognize it for what it is. Its just a singleopportunity for a single stream of income. Work it, make it work for you, but dont put all ofyour “chicks in one basket” as my grandmother used to say.You can spend years marketing a network marketing opportunity. If that company were todisappear tomorrow, where would you be? Take a moment to think about it. Years spentgenerating leads and building revenue, and it could disappear overnight.Dont get me wrong. Network marketing is great. Its a wonderful way to establishresidual income and secure your financial freedom. With that being said, however, youneed to ask yourself - are you working for yourself or are you really still working forsomeone else when all is said and done?If youre in network marketing, you probably think that you work for yourself. In somerespects you do. You are your own boss, you set your own hours, you determine your levelof success - but (and this is a big but) you really do not work for yourself if you are merely adistributor for a single network marketing company.When youre out there pounding the pavement, generating leads, and buildingrelationships, who or what are you marketing? I want you to think long and hard aboutthis one. Are you using attraction marketing to market yourself? Are you promotingyourself as a person? Or are you marketing the “brand” of the company you are adistributor for?If you brand yourself, promote yourself, build relationships with leads based on yourknowledge and experience (and not the product of an MLM company) then thatcompany could disappear tomorrow and you could still make money. 19
  21. 21. When you brand yourself with attraction marketing, your leads buy into the brand of“you” and not the brand of whatever company you are a distributor for. You can promotemore than one product or service and you can focus on more than one revenue source.The most successful entrepreneurs know that success is found in multiple streams ofincome, not just one. By branding yourself and promoting yourself, you have a whole listof leads you can go to with any business opportunities that you may come acrossbecause they arent limited to associating you with a brand other than your own.Youre going to be building a presence online, and that means a world of incomeopportunities will be opening up to you. Youll be able to profit from affiliate marketingtechniques, unprecedented lead generation and much, much more.Affiliate marketing is huge in today’s Internet age. People are becoming very wealthypromoting the products and services of others, and when you have a loyal following youcan promote products and services and get a cut of whatever your followers buy. Forexample, you’re going to be working with entrepreneurs and people who want to make aliving working from home. Everyone you network with is going to need a fax line or abusiness phone number. Why not join the affiliate program of the service you use forthose things and suggest that service to your network? You’re providing valuableadvice, and you’re getting paid every time someone takes it. It’s a win-win situation.The Internet has also taken lead generation to a whole new level. Forget aboutpounding the pavement, posting ads at the grocery store or putting classifieds in thenewspaper. The Internet is where it’s at.
