The context will be set as to why a perfect storm of Mixed Reality (including Augmented and Virtual Reality), Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are set to drive the next computing paradigm, much like mobile has done for the last 15-20 years, and the PC before that. And what are the real world constraints that you need to keep in mind?

Over the past three years, the Society of American Archivists and Association for College and Research Libraries have been teaming up to create, for the first time, a statistical standard to enable to archival repositories and special collections libraries to assess the services they provide their users according to common definitions. This webinar will provide you with an opportunity learn about the standard, and to provide the task force charged with its development vital feedback on the final stages of its drafting. Christian Dupont (Boston College), Emilie Hardman (Harvard University), and Amy Schindler (University of Nebraska at Omaha) will review the task force’s most recent draft, which has benefited from important community feedback over the past few months. The task force is currently seeking comments on version 2 of the proposed new standard for archival repositories and special collections libraries.

It describes their worldwide distribution, evolution to develop insecticide resistance, identification features, traumatic mating process, egg laying, incomplete metamorphosis life cycle, optimal temperature conditions, feeding behavior, aggregation in host areas after feeding, and tendency to live together with all life stages present. The document also notes how bed bugs evolved from bat bugs and can sometimes feed on humans if bats are unavailable.

The Public Library Association's latest initiative, Project Outcome, is a FREE online toolkit, offering an innovative and easy-to-use platform for public libraries to measure the impact of their programs and services. Library staff are able to easily measure patron outcomes using the field-tested surveys, quickly analyze their data using ready-made reports and an interactive data dashboard, and take action using the results. This session demonstrates what Project Outcome measures, what is included in the online toolkit, and how libraries of all shapes and sizes can utilize Project Outcome to measure their impact and affect change within their community. Burnsville (WV) Public Library will highlight their experience using Project Outcome. Virtual, augmented, and hybrid reality technologies were summarized. Virtual reality immerses users in simulated environments, typically using headsets. Augmented reality overlays digital content on the real world using devices like mobile phones. Hybrid reality merges real and virtual environments. Technologies like Oculus Rift, Google Glass, and mobile apps allow new forms of education and collaboration by blending real and virtual experiences. As technologies continue advancing, the lines between real and virtual are blurring.

Microsoft Hololens is an augmented reality headset developed by Microsoft. It uses holograms to overlay virtual objects in the real world. The Hololens functions as an independent, untethered device with its own computer and HPU (Holographic Processing Unit). It uses spatial mapping and sensors to track hand gestures and voice commands as inputs to interact with holograms. The Hololens works by processing data from its sensors to map the environment, localize sounds, and superimpose holograms so they interact realistically with the physical space.

More recently Google announced and released Android wear, which is very much in line with some of my suggestions, so I felt validated that my ideas were relevant and thought I should share them. Hopefully some of my other ideas are in line w/ what Google is thinking, because a technology like a Glass is a certainty to be in your household, but not in its current form.

Screenless display technology allows for the projection of visual information without the use of a physical screen. It has several applications, including retinal displays which project images directly onto the retina, and brain-computer interfaces which transmit visual signals directly to the brain. Current technologies include holograms, which reflect light to form three-dimensional images in air, and Google Glass, which projects augmented reality images in front of the eye. Future developments may allow completely screenless computing through technologies like synaptic interfaces. Screenless displays have the potential to benefit many areas by providing new accessible computing options.

A website audit can provide a valuable framework, especially before beginning a full or even partial redesign of your library's site. Learn about data-based principles that can guide your future work and discover some tools that can provide concrete specifics for elements that may need attention. Presenter: Laura Solomon, MCIW, MLS is the Library Services Manager for the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN). She has been doing web development and design for more than twenty years, in both public libraries and as an independent consultant. She specializes in developing with Drupal. She is a 2010 Library Journal Mover & Shaker. She's written three books about social media and content marketing, specifically for libraries, and speaks nationally on both these and technology-related topics. As a former children's librarian, she enjoys bringing the "fun of technology" to audiences and in giving libraries the tools they need to better serve the virtual customer.
