It seems she's playing nearly the same sexy–vixen she's played in a few other films already; just this
time, she's in a t–shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It'd be interesting to see Jolie really
stretch beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.
Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could've been rawer, more intense, and more
confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of
Kaysen's book would've been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young
actresses and a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob
Thornton that led to the film Sling Blade came to mind. I'm also noticing that that's the 2nd time I
referenced another film that is primarily about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film
about mentally ill young women, and maybe Girl, Interrupted could've been that film... but it isn't.
Quickly summed up, this film may indeed be compared to a female version of One Flew Over the
Cuckoo's Nest, except where that film was a rebellion tale, Girl, Interrupted appears to be more
about self–discovery. Though this film has been long in development, and many actresses vied for
the leading role, the casting call was even more crowded for the supporting roles. In particular,
though I haven't yet read the book, and so I don't know the

Analysis Of The Book ' The Black Robe ' By Arthur Miller
The author in the Black Robe article depicts the inaccuracies of the film such as how no Indian of
New France would have agreed to a 1,500 mile expedition in the middle of the winter. The only
knowledge we have to go off of reviewing the past is based on the historical letters the missionaries'
wrote their superiors. In The Crucible the author Arthur Miller portrays young Abigail Williams to
have had an affair with the elderly John Proctor, records show that Abigail was eleven and John was
sixty. The movie based on Arthur Miller's play portrays Abigail played by Winona Ryder as a young
woman who is sexually attracted to John played by Daniel Day–Lewis who is looks to be middle
aged. Historians would argue the view based on Miller's play of the girls' behavior most likely being
a cry for attention based on historical facts and records rather than the play viewing their behavior of
accusing numerous victims of practicing witchcraft based on their parents' enmity toward their
neighbors and the girls' hysteria to sexual frustration as a consequence of puritan repression. When
data based on records of marriages and births shortly after marriage shows that communities in
puritan New England had an extremely low rate of premarital intercourse. In The Patriot article the
writer mentions numerous inaccuracies in the film. There was no such person as Benjamin Martin
played by Mel Gibson who led the rebel militia. Also historians argue that although the character

Modern Family Controversies
Another year, meaning another set of Emmy nominations that contained shockers and huge snubs.
Like all years the Emmy nominations are always a huge talking point, with some saying it's more of
a popularity contest than anything else. Whilst I can agree to some extent, this year did serve some
justice to those few actors that have been snubbed for consecutive years now. Of course, I'm talking
mostly about Liev Schreiber and Tatiana Maslany. I don't watch either Ray Donavan or Orphan
Black, but I did catch an episode or two of each this year; both of them were fantastic in their roles
and did deserve a nomination. There is obviously a few shockers as well ranging from Jim Parsons

She made a huge impact in her role as Keating and without her on HTGAWM the show wouldn't be
the same. Keating is a powerful, feisty character and Viola is half of the reason she's so great. 2)
Lena Headey – It's one thing to read about the walk of atonement, but to see it on screen was
incredible. Lena was amazing. That moment alone secured the nomination. 3) Taraji P. Henson –
This one was obvious. If she hadn't been nominated I would have lost the plot. Cookie is such a big
character and one that makes such an impact each episode. Taraji never got the Emmy love she
deserved when she was on Person of Interest, but I'm thrilled she's finally being noticed for the
incredible actress she is. 4) Diana Rigg – Best guest actress by far and one that I look forward to
seeing each episode. She's been nominated for two years running now – which makes this the third –
she has to win surely? 5) Jeffery Tambor – It's not surprising he got a nomination. After Transparent
won best comedy and he took home best actor. If he didn't get a nomination it wouldn't have been
right. I'm delighted for him anyway. He truly deserves it; he's the one I hope

Bad News Bears Essays
Bad News Bears "Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world" these were
the words once uttered by Babe Ruth. The Bad News Bears is a 1976 film, remade in 2005, about a
little league baseball team full of misfits that were originally excluded from their Southern
California baseball league for not being talented enough, but parent protest allowed for the team to
be formed. The coach in charge of this team is a drunk, ex–professional baseball pitcher named
Morris Buttermaker only thinking of himself and his paychecks. The team loses their first game
after having to forfeit in the top of the first inning, quickly forming a rivalry with the Yankees. The
team then wants to quit, but Buttermaker has a change of heart ... Show more content on

The boys don't know what to do, other than steal the money from his wallet and go home. In both
movies the team slowly improves until Buttermaker, after several attempts, gets the daughter of his
ex–girlfriend to join the team as the ace pitcher. Still, neither team wins a game until the addition of
Kelly Leak, a juvenile delinquent often with amazing athletic ability. Both movies contain a
montage of unbelievable success resulting from these new players, landing the Bears in the title
game. Although the team loses the championship, both films end on a happy note with a "see you
next year" to the Yankees and team beer shower.
Morris Buttermaker is a washed up former semiprofessional baseball pitcher. This is the lead
character in the Bad News Bears. Originally played by Walter Matthua, then remade with Billy Bob
Thornton, Buttermaker is self–loving alcoholic who smokes cheap cigars like a chimney. Although
Thornton and Matthua played this character similarly, there were some key differences. The newer
version of Buttermaker is a womanizer unlike the original. Thornton's character even sleeps with
one of the players moms. The Bears even have numerous amounts of risqué girls cheering for the
young boys at their games. In the 1976 version the Buttermaker states that he only pitched in the
minor leagues for the New York Yankees. However in the remake he supposedly pitched two thirds
of an inning for the Seattle Mariners, with his career earned run average being

Essay on Sling Blade
Sling Blade
The Complete Review
This film by virtue of its independence has shied away from the usual hype associated with
American movies. The result is an original screenplay by Billy Bob Thornton that is transformed
into a mesmerising tale of the south. Thornton cast actors with ability rather than their image or
'Hollywood status'. Sling Blade challenges us to re–evaluate our principles and our definitions of
right, wrong and of justice.
Billy Bob Thornton plays a slightly retarded psychiatric patient by the name of Karl Childers, who
has been in an asylum for the criminally insane for the last 25 years. As his name suggests, Karl
Childers is a child–like man with instilled Southern Christian values and somewhat comical
mannerisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Karl begins to tell his story under the soft light of the lamp. His story is accompanied by a strong
and slow heartbeat. As the story is reaching its horrific climax, the heartbeat quickens, and with the
last word of the story, the heartbeat now louder and quicker than ever, stops. The lighting creates a
chilling moment in the movie. The constant use of lighting is most definitely contemporary noir.
Upon Karl's release the music changes to a more cheerful harmonica and synthesizer representing
his contentment with his new found freedom. Karl heads back to where he was raised in a small
country town in Arkansas. Karl stops and rests outside the local Laundromat and notices a young
boy by the name of Frank struggling out with the washing, Karl offers to take the laundry the half–
mile walk to the house. Lucas Black gives a wonderful performance as an innocent albeit nervous
boy who is having difficulty coming to terms with the suicide of his father several years earlier.
Frank takes an instant liking to Karl and adopts him as a kind of father figure. Karl can see in Frank
his own lost youth and innocence.
But the world is just too big for Karl so he returns to the hospital, only to be told that he is no longer
allowed stay there. James Hampton plays Jerry Woolridge, the warden. Jerry is concerned for Karl
and arranges for him to stay at his place for the

The film Slingblade depicts a mentally challenged man, Karl Childers, played by Billy Bob
Thornton, and his trials and tribulations of life. When he comes out of the mental institution he was
residing in, he meets a boy named Frank who accepts him as a human being like no one had
previously done to him. The whole movie shows how this intricate mentally retarded man; who was
domesticated from all his time in the mental house adapts to the outside world. Throughout all the
foul judgment and harsh words sent his way, he maintains a certain level of sanity and civilness
throughout the madness. The beginning of the movie starts and he tells his tales of his murders. Now

This was a great move on his behalf, because he ended up becoming best friends with this boy and
even breaking out of character and engaging in a friendly football game with him and his friends.
This is something you'd expect from your friendly neighborhood father, not someone who
previously committed a double murder. These two scenes are towards the beginning of the movie
and are merely foreshadowing to show that Karl is indeed a caring person and can live a meaningful
and compassionate life.
The last montage of scenes in the movie where Karl goes around and talks to all the people he cares
about is really the icing on the cake. He shows that throughout his life, he has truly done what he
thought was best for people he truly cared about. Even if this meant he would have to sit in a padded
room for the rest of his life. His first murder he thought he was helping his mother out of a terrible
situation that she was in. Even though his mother and father neglected him and made him live in a
shack out back, he still cared for his mother enough to come to her defense, or so he thought. He
thought she was getting raped by the neighborhood goon, Jesse Dixon. When he found out that his
mother actually enjoyed it, he said, "I reckon that made me even madder then what Jesse had made
me." He then reacted out of pure anger and killed his mother too.

Billy Bob Thornton's Sling Blade
Directed by Billy Bob Thornton, Sling Blade (1996) is a story about a man with a mental disability
that is released from an institute after killing his mother and her lover when he was a child. He is
able to start a new life in his home town, and makes quick friends with a young boy named Frank.
Sling Blade is well known for the character Karl, and how well Billy Bob Thornton was able to
convey the role. The visual aspects of the film create a frightening image of Karl, however, the
literary aspect of the film shows how Karl is an overall good person. Sling Blade begins with Karl
Childers being released from the hospital. Before he is released, he talked with a reporter about him

In this review, she gives a short summary of the film and gives very interesting arguments. Kempley
states " Like the eloquent, darkly funny dialogue, the film's characters, setting and cadences draw us
into its world, with all its terrors and tenderness. What emerges is a masterpiece of Southern
storytelling that draws a sharp line between good and evil. ". This statement gives a highly
intriguing intake of the film and describes many factors that impressed her. The film has some
humorous scenes, but also has a dark story about domestic violence and mental disabilities. The film
also has a major theme of good and evil. Throughout the film, Karl talks about the bible and the
right thing to do; however, he still commits murder by the end of the film. Some may argue that it
was the right thing to do, and others argue that murder is never justified. This is a pure example of
the fight between good and evil in the film. Kempley also states " While well–mannered and cuddly
in a predictable Southern Gothic way, the mildly retarded Karl is also, well, a homicidal maniac. But
a lovable one. " In this statement, Kempley misrepresents Karl. He isn't a homicidal maniac, but
rather someone with a disability who sometimes does the wrong thing with right

The Black Female Body : Past And Present Essay
The Black Female Body: Past and Present In today's media, bodies of color, particularly black
female bodies, are underrepresented and poorly represented by stereotypical images that are
constructed by patriarchy and white supremacy. When stereotypes are distinctly visible and exposed
in the media, they tend to be easily adopted by individuals, even though they are untrue. These
stereotypes are quite problematic because they stand in for actual knowledge and real life
experience. White supremacy is used as framework to contextualize Western ways of thinking of
how we understand the knowledge presented about bodies of color. Mass media is a system of
knowledge and power reproducing that attempts to maintain white supremacy by oppressing people
of color, particularly women of color. In this paper, l will explore how hegemonic tropes of
knowledge have been presented historically and how they are reinforced through representations in
the media. Throughout history, black female bodies have been marginalized by white society and
viewed as only being valued for their bodies, specifically their genitals. bell hooks' essay titled,
"naked without shame: a counter–hegemonic body politic", discusses the domination of the black
female body and how there is little discussion on how the body has been "foregrounded as a site of
conquest in all efforts of colonization". According to hooks, black bodies are rarely highlighted in a
way that counters the hegemonic representation of being

The Movie Slingblade Essay
In reviewing the movie "Slingblade" many moral issues arose. "Slingblade"
revolves totally around Karl, a retarded man who has spent almost all of his life in a psychiatric
hospital. Upon the day of his release, Karl told his horrific story to a student newspaper reporter.
While discussing his story, the viewers find that Karl was treated almost like an animal by his
parents, picked on by almost everyone in town, including his father's boss's son. At the age of 11,
Karl saw his father's boss's son having his way with his mother and assumes the worst. He then
proceeds to attack the man with a Slingblade and kills him. When Karl learned his mother was
enjoying the event, he kills her to.

John Ritter plays a homosexual male in the movie who is like a father figure to Frank and a best
friend to Frank's mother. He expresses several times in the movie to Karl how scared he is of Doyle
and how he thinks that one–day Doyle will hurt them.
In the movie, Karl puts on the front to be a Christian like figure. His only possessions are a Bible
and a few other books on Christmas and Carpentry. In the final scenes of the movie, Karl calls out to
three of the main characters before he goes to confront Doyle.
Billy Bob Thorton uses the inversion of Peter's betrayal of Jesus to create a moral ambivalence over
Karl's actions. "Slingblade" has no secret ever leading to his final confrontation, which I
believe is a strange mix of Christ–like self–sacrifice and Old Testament Law.
In the movie "Slingblade" Karl expresses types of repulsion that show inner fear of
brokeness and fragility. I believe the main theme of this movie was the tragedy of a lost childhood.
The moral issues of the movie question the concepts of what we believe in to be right and wrong, sin
and benevolence. In Karl's position did he even know what was right and what was wrong?
From a social standpoint can we blame society allowing a child to live in an abusive home, not
providing proper training for handicap individuals? Should his

Sling Blade Synopsis
The movie I chose was Sling blade. I chose this movie partly because of the story line, and partly
because of the langauge. It's a story about a guy named Karl Childers (the main character), a
mentally challanged fellow who has been in a mental institution since he was a child of 12 years old
for the murder of his mother and her lover. This movie starts at the mental institution where Karl has
lived for the past 20 years. He is being released back into society and returns to his hometown. He
befriends a little boy and his mother, gets a job at a local repair shop and thus begins his life on the
outside. Karl has this thing he says, Mmm hmm. It'd kind of like a scene stealer. The first time I saw
this movie, I couldn't believe that Billy Bob Thornton was Karl Childers. The make up, the way he
played this man is remakable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doyle makes no bones about his dislike for Karl the "retard" and doesn't like him hanging around
their house. He lets Karl know that when he and Linda (Frank's mom) get married, he will have to
move out. The language in this movie is quite colorful. In a quote from the movie, Doyle asks
Linda, "Hey is this the kind of retard that drools and rubs shit in his hair and all that, 'cause I'm
gonna have a hard time eatin' 'round that kind of thing now. Just like I am with antique furniture and
midgets. You know that, I can't so much as drink a damn glass of water around a midget or a piece
of antique furniture". What a way to describe an issue that he (Doyle) has. The music score for this
movie in my opinion is on point. The instramental that is played when Karl goes looking for Frank
is somewhat soothing yet edgy as it makes you feel as though something is going to

opposite... Lisa really is probably more messed up than anyone else in the ward. Jolie has gotten
plenty of acclaim for her performance here, but I was never really taken in. It seems she's playing

Comparing Sling Blade And As I Lay Dying
Southern gothic literature underscores the unpleasant aspects of southern culture. These issues are
exposed through grotesque characters, including those who are physically deformed, mentally
deficient, or deeply flawed. Many of the characters struggle to make sense of the surrounding world
and find a place in society. Southern gothic authors are iconoclasts, criticizing southern culture and
revealing the anti–social idiosyncrasies of humanity, especially in the face of difficulty. Among
these authors is William Faulkner, who is often recognized for his exceptional southern gothic style.
As I Lay Dying is one of many novels by Faulkner in which the nature of man is explored through
the death in a family. Billy Bob Thornton is the renowned author of the script of Sling Blade, a film
in which a mentally handicapped murderer is released from an institution. Despite apparent
differences, both Sling Blade and As I Lay Dying are examples of the Southern gothic genre since
each explores the theme of isolation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Alamo Movie Analysis
The Alamo is a 2004 American war film about the Battle of the Alamo amid the Texas Revolution; it
is a motion picture that catches the dejection and fear of men sitting tight for two weeks for what
they hope to be sure passing, and it some way or another succeeds in taking those popular society
brand names like Davy Crockett and James Bowie and giving them human structure. The film was
coordinated by Texan John Lee Hancock, delivered by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Mark
Johnson, dispersed by Touchstone Pictures, and featuring Dennis Quaid as Sam Houston, Billy Bob
Thornton as Davy Crockett, and Jason Patric as James Bowie. The film relates to history, the Alamo
looks exact, and, in reality, we find that San Antonio de Béxar was deliberately re–made with small
saving of cost. In any case, a feeling of the way the occasions at the Alamo are joined with the
national story of slavery, development, and the evacuation of Native American from the eastern
United States in the 1830s and 1840s is missing. On the off chance that we incorporate this bigger
story, we can maybe figure out the more extensive point of view that at first created enthusiasm for
the venture. Texas additionally rose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conveying Texas from the grip of the domineering Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna.

Criminological Theory In Fx's Fargo
In April of 2014, a television series premiered that offers not just an entertaining 10–hour stint of
television to binge–watch, but also an interesting opportunity to analyze the unusual event of high
crime in suburban Minnesota. The show to which I am referring is FX's Fargo (based on the Coen
brothers' 1996 film of the same name), which predominantly takes place in Bemidji, Minnesota as
well as Fargo, North Dakota and Duluth, Minnesota. This unusual setting for the dark events that
unfold throughout the show works as a comedic backdrop, but from a criminological perspective it
lends itself to something more. Additionally, one main perpetrator of crime in the show is Lester

More specifically comes a theory of differential association (inspired by social control theory),
which essentially explains that people may be more inclined toward criminal activity if they have
strong relationships with others who engage in it as well (Crutchfield, 2008). This theory comes into
play more specifically when examining the relationship between the seemingly mild–mannered
Lester Nygaard and the mysterious stranger introduced in the first episode as Lorne Malvo –but
more on that later. First, one must examine the character of Lester Nygaard. While not the most
violent character on the show, Lester does become deeply interwoven in criminal activity. He begins
the series as an unremarkable character, just a man with a relatively boring job at an insurance
company in an unhappy marriage. However, he ends the series with two dead wives (he was directly
responsible for the death of one and indirectly responsible for the death of the other), an insurance
agency of his own, and blood on his hands (both literally and figuratively). How can one explain his
descent into maliciousness? Well, strain theory might be a

Sexual Assault : The Jian Ghomeshi Story Essay
Sexual assault; The Jian Ghomeshi story
This is a myth that is not true that most of the sexual assaults involve a stranger who attacks a
woman in a dark park or alleyway or who may breaks into a woman's house or an apartment to
assault her. According to the crime statistics, less than 20 percent of sexual assaults are committed
by a strangers. In other words, in more than 80 percent of cases, the woman is assaulted by someone
she already know such as a family member or a friend
Over three quarters of the sexual assaults involve unwanted sexual, grabbing, touching, kissing, or
fondling. In about 70 percent of the sexual assaults, victim is female and in close to 90 percent, the
perpetrator is a male. The Young people are more likely than older people to be victims of sexual
assault. For example, most people who are aged 15 to 24 are most as likely to be sexually assaulted
as people who are 25 to 34 years–old.
Sexual harassment is a terrible crime with consequences. It can hurt a victim's life for the rest of
their life cause depression or anxiety and can also destroy a person's self–esteem. These
consequences can haunt a victim for the rest of their life. If the abuse is very frequent, committed by
a family member or involves full–blown sex, things are likely to be even worse. Sexual abuse will
make you feel worthless, alone and scared. Most of the cases are never reported, particularly when
the person involved is a family member.

Armageddon was not created as a whimsical fantasy of Hollywood masterminds. In fact, its basic
premise stems from a distinct historical event. In 1994, for the first time in the history of
humankind, scientists were able to witness in detail the collision of two solar system bodies. Having
circled Jupiter in an enclosing elliptical pattern for what scientists speculate to be hundreds of years,
comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 was wrenched out of its orbit by Jupiter's gravity and into a collision
course with the planet's dense atmosphere. This collision produced "bubble[s] of superheated gas
that blazed with 50 times the infrared luminosity of the entire planet, briefly blinding some
telescopes." Comet fragments pounded Jupiter at an estimated speed of 60 kilometers per second
(134,000 miles an hour), and although the largest fragments measured no more

My personal opinion of Jolie's work is that there are positive aspects to her involvement in
development work, but there are so many underlying issues that it makes it impossible to view her
work as positive to development.
Jolie was not always the person she is today and has overcome much controversy in her career to get
where she is presently. Once married to Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie was known for being psychotic,
abusing hard drugs and alcohol, and having infidelity in her relationships (Ramsdale, 2013). Her
largely scrutinized life style slowly began to fade away into the past as her interest in humanitarian
work piqued after working on set in Cambodia in the year 2000 for her hit movie, "Tomb Raider"

Waffle House remains cemented in pop culture as a place where one can enjoy a meal with friends at

Waffle House has quickly become a pop culture icon despite the company's lack of significant
public relations campaigns. The corporation uses little advertising and releases few details about its
operations to the public. Despite the company's poor public relations efforts, Waffle House has been

Essay about Anorexia Nervosa in Males: An Often Overlooked...
For many the term "Anorexia" conjures up memories of bone thin, weight obsessed teenage girls,
models, and actresses. However, as the spotlight has been shined on Anorexia bringing this secretive
and quiet disorder to a wider public perception, many still suffer in silence: either too ashamed to
seek treatment, or because of an improper diagnosis. Over three million men each year are affected
by Anorexia. In spite of this, men are less likely to be diagnosed, and the disorder is often
overlooked due to the misconception that it is a "girl's disease". Unlike females, who are generally

As with females, body image among males is a prevailing symptom and underlying motivation for
the development and continuation of the disorder. Anorexia is a terrible disorder that ravages the
body as it seems to bring comfort to the mind. A female anorexic tends to lose mostly body fat. Men
primarily lose muscle tissue and tone. As this is destroyed it takes its toll on the body. Bone loss,
heart muscle loss, and anemia are just a few of the ways this disorder affects the body. The two main
causes of death with Anorexia are cardiac arrest and terminal dehydration. These are typically
brought on by complications of starving the body of required nutrients for long periods of time.
Typically, the initial onset of Anorexia strikes in the teen years and continues into young adulthood.
During this time, many of those who suffer from symptoms of Anorexia develop a distorted body
image. Among men, full blown Anorexia tends to develop later. As previously discussed, Anorexia
in males is typically a response to being overweight. Men who develop the disorder generally try to
lose weight by restricting their caloric intake and with intense exercise. Men, like women, are being
increasingly targeted with similar unrealistic body images. Skinnier models in fashion and an
accepted cultural belief that "a real man" has six pack abs, has created a social atmosphere that
causes young males who may be of a healthy

A Memoir Of The Senses By Isabel Allende
If you like cooking, food, sex and humor then you will most definitely enjoy The Epicure's Lament
by Kate Christianson and Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by Isabel Allende. I enjoyed both
books for the most part. More so Epicure's Lament than Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses. Here's
my breakdown of both books and how they differ and how they are similar. To start off both authors
are women. Although after reading both novels, both authors don't seem very similar to me.
Christianson comes off to me as more edgy and loose. And although her books extremely sexual, I
think Allende's is older, maybe middle age. The reason I think that is when I read this book I picture
her as an older cougar who knows just what she wants. I like Christianson better. She reminds me of
myself and I think she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. To be fair though I've only read just
these two books by the authors. I do plan to read more of Christianson's work though.

Sling Blade Essay
Sling Blade
Film directed by and screen play by Billy Bob Thornton.
Theme
Sling Blade's main theme is the redemption of Karl's lost childhood. Karl Childer's overly religious
parents believed he was a punishment from God. They severely abused him, treated him like an
animal, and forced him to live in a shed in solitude. Everyone in town picked on him and called him
names. He was seen as a "retard" or slower than others. He had little to call his own. His only
possessions were a Bible and several books on Christmas and carpentry. Karl was taught the Bible

Through a deadly crime, Karl freed his young friend from a life of pain and despair, only to end up
back where he began at the "nut house". The choice of right or wrong seemed to make good and evil
equal.
The main point of Sling Blade was to convey the message that sometimes wrong can be right.
Symbolically, killing with the switchblade represents for cutting away the troubles that get in the
way. Sling Blade was a subjective film. It seduces the audience to emphasize with Frank and Karl
and think the way the director wants.
Elements
The first element I found that supported the theme was the script. The actors' dialogues shaped the
characters' roles. Karl adopted a new dialect. He picked up a backwoods, disturbed, monotone,
punctuated by a throaty "um–hmmm". Karl's dialogue showed that he spoke in a simple way. He
avoided complicated, fancy language. He spoke like a child, slow and easy, while the others in the
movie indicated more education through their speaking. Karl explained the way he was treated as a
child, his love for Frank, and his fear of Doyle. His moments of silence revealed his reflection, his
caged up behavior, and his childlike manner. Karl's words shaped him as gentle and to the point.
Karl told Frank's mamma she's good for Frank. He let people know their worth. At the end Karl

in his days. Karloff was born in London England, on November 23, 1887. He was the youngest of
the nine children born to Edward and Eliza Pratt. At a very young age, his father wanted him to
pursuit in a diplomatic career, but however after emigrating to Canada in 1901 he lost interest. Upon
his arrival to Canada, Karloff worked as a laborer and later went into Hollywood. He spent about 10
years in repertory companies as a character actor, appearing in 45 silent films for Universal Studios.
One of the biggest roles that he came across was the role for the Frankenstein monster. As stated on
Bio, " Bela Lugosi refused to take a role in which he would ... Show more content on

The film Frankenstein, directed by James Whale, was able to captivate its audience through the stiff
and ungraceful movement shown by the monster. Boris was able to create a great impersonation of a
human being that was just resurrected back from the dead. This could be seen throughout the film
when the monster is either attacking the creator or simply walking to a set destination. In the film
the Mummy, directed by Karl Freund, they both used similar technique as in both films had a dead
human being resurrected back alive. Karloff had to bring back the technique used in the film
Frankenstein by using its unique movement. He shows the audience the fixed rigid motion of a
resurrected mummy. This could also be seen throughout the film when the mummy disguises
himself into a modern Egyptian and begin walking and blending in with its surrounding. Another
similarity is the fact that in both films, Boris is playing as the antagonist in the film. In Frankenstein,
Karloff is seeking revenge against the creator for mistreating him in the lab by seeking the creator's
love one. In The Mummy, Karloff is trying to reunite himself with his past lover. By finding his
reincarnated lover and tries to take her soul and inserted into the old mummified

Nature Of Duality

  • 1. Nature Of Duality 25. It doesn't matter how gracious the words are. And it does matter how beautiful the flower is. It's the idea that you are in someone's thoughts. – Nate Berkus on the gesture someone makes for you after tragedy. 26. I was in the company of great men indeed. Some of them more qualified and more talented than I am. To sit down with them – to exchange views, was one of the most revealing experiences I had. To sit down with those men and exchange views, it enriched your own life. It fortified your morality. It gave you courage to do better than your best. – Nelson Mandela on men who worked the lime quarry with him. 27. We have a tendency to experience not reality. We have a tendency to experience our thinking about reality. – Michael Beckwith on being a victim 28. Be OK with what you ultimately can't do, because there is so much you CAN do – Sam Berns 29. When you get to the point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think we need to slow down, take the good parts of the old days, leave the bad parts behind, and start to live moment to moment again – not so quickly – and look up and look around. – Billy Bob Thornton 39. I believe that the nature of humanity is duality, and within every human being is darkness and light – some good things and some bad things. I believe that we come to the planet as human beings attempting to bring more light into our very existence. – Oprah Winfrey 40. I didn't want to believe this, but I've come to learn that regret is a fair but tough teacher. Regret, I think, is a function of empathy. And so when people say "I have no regrets", I think that seems dangerous to me because do you not look back, ever, and say 'If I had this to do over again, I wish I would have done it another way.' – Brené Brown 41. All life is energy. And it's also why all life is eternal. Physical birth is not the beginning, but a continuation of life. Physical death is not an end, but a continuation of life. Energy is indestructible – science tells us this. – Marianne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Essay on Girl Interrupted Review One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the "Sexy Crazy Girl", which we've seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is not a glamorous subject, but that's not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the girls in the movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it just did not seem realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which made the care facility look like a youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main (well known) stars, (Jolie and Ryder) were focal piont. I'll also note that about half the young girls in the movie, Ryder and Jolie included, simply don't look like girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems she's playing nearly the same sexy–vixen she's played in a few other films already; just this time, she's in a t–shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It'd be interesting to see Jolie really stretch beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun. Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could've been rawer, more intense, and more confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of Kaysen's book would've been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young actresses and a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob Thornton that led to the film Sling Blade came to mind. I'm also noticing that that's the 2nd time I referenced another film that is primarily about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film about mentally ill young women, and maybe Girl, Interrupted could've been that film... but it isn't. Quickly summed up, this film may indeed be compared to a female version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, except where that film was a rebellion tale, Girl, Interrupted appears to be more about self–discovery. Though this film has been long in development, and many actresses vied for the leading role, the casting call was even more crowded for the supporting roles. In particular, though I haven't yet read the book, and so I don't know the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Book ' The Black Robe ' By Arthur Miller The author in the Black Robe article depicts the inaccuracies of the film such as how no Indian of New France would have agreed to a 1,500 mile expedition in the middle of the winter. The only knowledge we have to go off of reviewing the past is based on the historical letters the missionaries' wrote their superiors. In The Crucible the author Arthur Miller portrays young Abigail Williams to have had an affair with the elderly John Proctor, records show that Abigail was eleven and John was sixty. The movie based on Arthur Miller's play portrays Abigail played by Winona Ryder as a young woman who is sexually attracted to John played by Daniel Day–Lewis who is looks to be middle aged. Historians would argue the view based on Miller's play of the girls' behavior most likely being a cry for attention based on historical facts and records rather than the play viewing their behavior of accusing numerous victims of practicing witchcraft based on their parents' enmity toward their neighbors and the girls' hysteria to sexual frustration as a consequence of puritan repression. When data based on records of marriages and births shortly after marriage shows that communities in puritan New England had an extremely low rate of premarital intercourse. In The Patriot article the writer mentions numerous inaccuracies in the film. There was no such person as Benjamin Martin played by Mel Gibson who led the rebel militia. Also historians argue that although the character Colonel Tavington who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Modern Family Controversies Another year, meaning another set of Emmy nominations that contained shockers and huge snubs. Like all years the Emmy nominations are always a huge talking point, with some saying it's more of a popularity contest than anything else. Whilst I can agree to some extent, this year did serve some justice to those few actors that have been snubbed for consecutive years now. Of course, I'm talking mostly about Liev Schreiber and Tatiana Maslany. I don't watch either Ray Donavan or Orphan Black, but I did catch an episode or two of each this year; both of them were fantastic in their roles and did deserve a nomination. There is obviously a few shockers as well ranging from Jim Parsons absence from best comedic actor to Emilia Clarkes nomination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She made a huge impact in her role as Keating and without her on HTGAWM the show wouldn't be the same. Keating is a powerful, feisty character and Viola is half of the reason she's so great. 2) Lena Headey – It's one thing to read about the walk of atonement, but to see it on screen was incredible. Lena was amazing. That moment alone secured the nomination. 3) Taraji P. Henson – This one was obvious. If she hadn't been nominated I would have lost the plot. Cookie is such a big character and one that makes such an impact each episode. Taraji never got the Emmy love she deserved when she was on Person of Interest, but I'm thrilled she's finally being noticed for the incredible actress she is. 4) Diana Rigg – Best guest actress by far and one that I look forward to seeing each episode. She's been nominated for two years running now – which makes this the third – she has to win surely? 5) Jeffery Tambor – It's not surprising he got a nomination. After Transparent won best comedy and he took home best actor. If he didn't get a nomination it wouldn't have been right. I'm delighted for him anyway. He truly deserves it; he's the one I hope ... The Bad News Bears is a 1976 film, remade in 2005, about a little league baseball team full of misfits that were originally excluded from their Southern California baseball league for not being talented enough, but parent protest allowed for the team to be formed. The coach in charge of this team is a drunk, ex–professional baseball pitcher named Morris Buttermaker only thinking of himself and his paychecks. The team loses their first game after having to forfeit in the top of the first inning, quickly forming a rivalry with the Yankees. The team then wants to quit, but Buttermaker has a change of heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boys don't know what to do, other than steal the money from his wallet and go home. In both movies the team slowly improves until Buttermaker, after several attempts, gets the daughter of his ex–girlfriend to join the team as the ace pitcher. Still, neither team wins a game until the addition of Kelly Leak, a juvenile delinquent often with amazing athletic ability. Both movies contain a montage of unbelievable success resulting from these new players, landing the Bears in the title game. Although the team loses the championship, both films end on a happy note with a "see you next year" to the Yankees and team beer shower. Morris Buttermaker is a washed up former semiprofessional baseball pitcher. This is the lead character in the Bad News Bears. Originally played by Walter Matthua, then remade with Billy Bob Thornton, Buttermaker is self–loving alcoholic who smokes cheap cigars like a chimney. Although Thornton and Matthua played this character similarly, there were some key differences. The newer version of Buttermaker is a womanizer unlike the original. Thornton's character even sleeps with one of the players moms. The Bears even have numerous amounts of risqué girls cheering for the young boys at their games. In the 1976 version the Buttermaker states that he only pitched in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees. However in the remake he supposedly pitched two thirds of an inning for the Seattle Mariners, with his career earned run average being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay on Sling Blade Sling Blade The Complete Review This film by virtue of its independence has shied away from the usual hype associated with American movies. The result is an original screenplay by Billy Bob Thornton that is transformed into a mesmerising tale of the south. Thornton cast actors with ability rather than their image or 'Hollywood status'. Sling Blade challenges us to re–evaluate our principles and our definitions of right, wrong and of justice. Billy Bob Thornton plays a slightly retarded psychiatric patient by the name of Karl Childers, who has been in an asylum for the criminally insane for the last 25 years. As his name suggests, Karl Childers is a child–like man with instilled Southern Christian values and somewhat comical mannerisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karl begins to tell his story under the soft light of the lamp. His story is accompanied by a strong and slow heartbeat. As the story is reaching its horrific climax, the heartbeat quickens, and with the last word of the story, the heartbeat now louder and quicker than ever, stops. The lighting creates a chilling moment in the movie. The constant use of lighting is most definitely contemporary noir. Upon Karl's release the music changes to a more cheerful harmonica and synthesizer representing his contentment with his new found freedom. Karl heads back to where he was raised in a small country town in Arkansas. Karl stops and rests outside the local Laundromat and notices a young boy by the name of Frank struggling out with the washing, Karl offers to take the laundry the half– mile walk to the house. Lucas Black gives a wonderful performance as an innocent albeit nervous boy who is having difficulty coming to terms with the suicide of his father several years earlier. Frank takes an instant liking to Karl and adopts him as a kind of father figure. Karl can see in Frank his own lost youth and innocence. This is something you'd expect from your friendly neighborhood father, not someone who previously committed a double murder. These two scenes are towards the beginning of the movie and are merely foreshadowing to show that Karl is indeed a caring person and can live a meaningful and compassionate life. The last montage of scenes in the movie where Karl goes around and talks to all the people he cares about is really the icing on the cake. He shows that throughout his life, he has truly done what he thought was best for people he truly cared about. Even if this meant he would have to sit in a padded room for the rest of his life. His first murder he thought he was helping his mother out of a terrible situation that she was in. Even though his mother and father neglected him and made him live in a shack out back, he still cared for his mother enough to come to her defense, or so he thought. He thought she was getting raped by the neighborhood goon, Jesse Dixon. When he found out that his mother actually enjoyed it, he said, "I reckon that made me even madder then what Jesse had made me." He then reacted out of pure anger and killed his mother too. Billy Bob Thornton's Sling Blade Directed by Billy Bob Thornton, Sling Blade (1996) is a story about a man with a mental disability that is released from an institute after killing his mother and her lover when he was a child. He is able to start a new life in his home town, and makes quick friends with a young boy named Frank. Sling Blade is well known for the character Karl, and how well Billy Bob Thornton was able to convey the role. The visual aspects of the film create a frightening image of Karl, however, the literary aspect of the film shows how Karl is an overall good person. Sling Blade begins with Karl Childers being released from the hospital. Before he is released, he talked with a reporter about him leaving the institution. When asked if he will kill again, ... What emerges is a masterpiece of Southern storytelling that draws a sharp line between good and evil. ". This statement gives a highly intriguing intake of the film and describes many factors that impressed her. The film has some humorous scenes, but also has a dark story about domestic violence and mental disabilities. The film also has a major theme of good and evil. Throughout the film, Karl talks about the bible and the right thing to do; however, he still commits murder by the end of the film. Some may argue that it was the right thing to do, and others argue that murder is never justified. This is a pure example of the fight between good and evil in the film. Kempley also states " While well–mannered and cuddly in a predictable Southern Gothic way, the mildly retarded Karl is also, well, a homicidal maniac. But a lovable one. • 17. The Black Female Body : Past And Present Essay The Black Female Body: Past and Present In today's media, bodies of color, particularly black female bodies, are underrepresented and poorly represented by stereotypical images that are constructed by patriarchy and white supremacy. When stereotypes are distinctly visible and exposed in the media, they tend to be easily adopted by individuals, even though they are untrue. These stereotypes are quite problematic because they stand in for actual knowledge and real life experience. White supremacy is used as framework to contextualize Western ways of thinking of how we understand the knowledge presented about bodies of color. Mass media is a system of knowledge and power reproducing that attempts to maintain white supremacy by oppressing people of color, particularly women of color. In this paper, l will explore how hegemonic tropes of knowledge have been presented historically and how they are reinforced through representations in the media. Throughout history, black female bodies have been marginalized by white society and viewed as only being valued for their bodies, specifically their genitals. bell hooks' essay titled, "naked without shame: a counter–hegemonic body politic", discusses the domination of the black female body and how there is little discussion on how the body has been "foregrounded as a site of conquest in all efforts of colonization". "Slingblade" revolves totally around Karl, a retarded man who has spent almost all of his life in a psychiatric hospital. Upon the day of his release, Karl told his horrific story to a student newspaper reporter. While discussing his story, the viewers find that Karl was treated almost like an animal by his parents, picked on by almost everyone in town, including his father's boss's son. At the age of 11, Karl saw his father's boss's son having his way with his mother and assumes the worst. He then proceeds to attack the man with a Slingblade and kills him. John Ritter plays a homosexual male in the movie who is like a father figure to Frank and a best friend to Frank's mother. He expresses several times in the movie to Karl how scared he is of Doyle and how he thinks that one–day Doyle will hurt them. In the movie, Karl puts on the front to be a Christian like figure. His only possessions are a Bible and a few other books on Christmas and Carpentry. In the final scenes of the movie, Karl calls out to three of the main characters before he goes to confront Doyle. Billy Bob Thorton uses the inversion of Peter's betrayal of Jesus to create a moral ambivalence over Karl's actions. "Slingblade" has no secret ever leading to his final confrontation, which I believe is a strange mix of Christ–like self–sacrifice and Old Testament Law. In the movie "Slingblade" Karl expresses types of repulsion that show inner fear of brokeness and fragility. I believe the main theme of this movie was the tragedy of a lost childhood. The moral issues of the movie question the concepts of what we believe in to be right and wrong, sin and benevolence. In Karl's position did he even know what was right and what was wrong? From a social standpoint can we blame society allowing a child to live in an abusive home, not providing proper training for handicap individuals? Should his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Sling Blade Synopsis The movie I chose was Sling blade. I chose this movie partly because of the story line, and partly because of the langauge. It's a story about a guy named Karl Childers (the main character), a mentally challanged fellow who has been in a mental institution since he was a child of 12 years old for the murder of his mother and her lover. This movie starts at the mental institution where Karl has lived for the past 20 years. He is being released back into society and returns to his hometown. He befriends a little boy and his mother, gets a job at a local repair shop and thus begins his life on the outside. Karl has this thing he says, Mmm hmm. It'd kind of like a scene stealer. The first time I saw this movie, I couldn't believe that Billy Bob Thornton was Karl Childers. The make up, the way he played this man is remakable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doyle makes no bones about his dislike for Karl the "retard" and doesn't like him hanging around their house. He lets Karl know that when he and Linda (Frank's mom) get married, he will have to move out. The language in this movie is quite colorful. In a quote from the movie, Doyle asks Linda, "Hey is this the kind of retard that drools and rubs shit in his hair and all that, 'cause I'm gonna have a hard time eatin' 'round that kind of thing now. Just like I am with antique furniture and midgets. You know that, I can't so much as drink a damn glass of water around a midget or a piece of antique furniture". What a way to describe an issue that he (Doyle) has. The music score for this movie in my opinion is on point. The movie seems to pay heavy homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in using a character like Lisa, as she seems at first glance like the young female version of Randall McMurphy. Farther in, however, we discover that Girl, Interrupted is more aptly described as being completely the opposite... Lisa really is probably more messed up than anyone else in the ward. Jolie has gotten plenty of acclaim for her performance here, but I was never really taken in. What Is Angelina Jolie Developmental Biography DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, to actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. Angelina had a troubled childhood, the result of growing up with an estranged and famous father and a mother who, despite her laissez– faire parenting style, used her daughter as a vehicle through which to live out her own dreams of stardom. For the first year or so of Jolie's life, she was kept in a white office five floors above her mother's apartment and tended by a rotation of babysitters (her mother finding her too similar– looking to her just–run–off husband). There were days when her mother would not visit. Psychiatrists speculate that Angelina's mother became unhinged after her husband was discovered to be cheating on her while Angelina was just a babe in arms. Growing up, she didn't like being hugged. These issues are exposed through grotesque characters, including those who are physically deformed, mentally deficient, or deeply flawed. Although Armageddon received nods from the Academy of Motion Pictures for Best Effects (Sound Effects Editing and Visual Effects), Best Music (Song), and Best Sound, film critics were not so enthusiastic. In 1994, for the first time in the history of humankind, scientists were able to witness in detail the collision of two solar system bodies. Having circled Jupiter in an enclosing elliptical pattern for what scientists speculate to be hundreds of years, comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 was wrenched out of its orbit by Jupiter's gravity and into a collision course with the planet's dense atmosphere. This collision produced "bubble[s] of superheated gas that blazed with 50 times the infrared luminosity of the entire planet, briefly blinding some telescopes." The Humanitarian Work of Angelina Jolie When most people talk about celebrities it is usually related to their latest fashion statement, the new movies they are starring in, or the new song they released. However, what is becoming increasingly more popular for celebrities to be associated with is humanitarian and development work. Through their use of songs, documentaries, and publicized field missions, the celebrities that partake in humanitarian work utilize their fame to attract people to support certain relief efforts and organizations. A movement first started by Jackie Coogan in the 1920s (Babkenian, 2011), celebrity humanitarianism is becoming increasingly more popular with names such as Bono, Oprah Winfrey, and Angelina Jolie serving as modern day examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My personal opinion of Jolie's work is that there are positive aspects to her involvement in development work, but there are so many underlying issues that it makes it impossible to view her work as positive to development. Jolie was not always the person she is today and has overcome much controversy in her career to get where she is presently. Once married to Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie was known for being psychotic, abusing hard drugs and alcohol, and having infidelity in her relationships (Ramsdale, 2013). Her largely scrutinized life style slowly began to fade away into the past as her interest in humanitarian work piqued after working on set in Cambodia in the year 2000 for her hit movie, "Tomb Raider" (unhcr.org, 2013a). Soon after seeing the refugee crisis that is prevalent in Cambodia, Jolie began travelling across the country with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help fight for the displaced people of the world and publicize their plight for the purpose to gain international support on the issue (unhcr.org, 2013a). On top of travelling with the UNHCR, Jolie quickly became a voice for those refugees who did not have one, and drew much attention to the crisis that many displaced people faced around the ... This image of a fun, all night hangout has recently been tarnished by multiple allegations of racism on the part of both customers and employees. However, as the spotlight has been shined on Anorexia bringing this secretive and quiet disorder to a wider public perception, many still suffer in silence: either too ashamed to seek treatment, or because of an improper diagnosis. Over three million men each year are affected by Anorexia. In spite of this, men are less likely to be diagnosed, and the disorder is often overlooked due to the misconception that it is a "girl's disease". As this is destroyed it takes its toll on the body. Bone loss, heart muscle loss, and anemia are just a few of the ways this disorder affects the body. These are typically brought on by complications of starving the body of required nutrients for long periods of time. Typically, the initial onset of Anorexia strikes in the teen years and continues into young adulthood. During this time, many of those who suffer from symptoms of Anorexia develop a distorted body image. Among men, full blown Anorexia tends to develop later. A Memoir Of The Senses By Isabel Allende If you like cooking, food, sex and humor then you will most definitely enjoy The Epicure's Lament by Kate Christianson and Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by Isabel Allende. I enjoyed both books for the most part. More so Epicure's Lament than Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses. Here's my breakdown of both books and how they differ and how they are similar. To start off both authors are women. Although after reading both novels, both authors don't seem very similar to me. Christianson comes off to me as more edgy and loose. And although her books extremely sexual, I think Allende's is older, maybe middle age. The reason I think that is when I read this book I picture her as an older cougar who knows just what she wants. I like Christianson better. She reminds me of myself and I think she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. To be fair though I've only read just these two books by the authors. I do plan to read more of Christianson's work though. I absolutely love Greek mythology. I actually took a Greek mythology class at Tidewater Community College. So when I found out we had to read Aphrodite, I was extremely excited. Aphrodite is supposed to be the goddess of love, desire and beauty. But this book is not about Greek mythology. Although it does remind me Aphrodite with all the sexual stories and pictures. If there was a Greek goddess that had to do with food and sex that would of been perfect for this book. Karl Childer's overly religious parents believed he was a punishment from God. They severely abused him, treated him like an animal, and forced him to live in a shed in solitude. Everyone in town picked on him and called him names. He was seen as a "retard" or slower than others. He had little to call his own. His only possessions were a Bible and several books on Christmas and carpentry. Karl was taught the Bible as a child, but it wasn't really the Bible. The stories they told him were not in the Bible. Through a deadly crime, Karl freed his young friend from a life of pain and despair, only to end up back where he began at the "nut house". The choice of right or wrong seemed to make good and evil equal. The main point of Sling Blade was to convey the message that sometimes wrong can be right. Symbolically, killing with the switchblade represents for cutting away the troubles that get in the way. Sling Blade was a subjective film. It seduces the audience to emphasize with Frank and Karl and think the way the director wants. Elements The first element I found that supported the theme was the script. The actors' dialogues shaped the characters' roles. Karl adopted a new dialect. He picked up a backwoods, disturbed, monotone, punctuated by a throaty "um–hmmm". Karl's dialogue showed that he spoke in a simple way. He avoided complicated, fancy language. He spoke like a child, slow and easy, while the others in the movie indicated more education through their speaking. Karl explained the way he was treated as a child, his love for Frank, and his fear of Doyle. His moments of silence revealed his reflection, his caged up behavior, and his childlike manner. Karl's words shaped him as gentle and to the point. Karl told Frank's mamma she's good for Frank. He let people know their worth. At the end Karl stated, "the world was too big". He

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film Frankenstein, directed by James Whale, was able to captivate its audience through the stiff and ungraceful movement shown by the monster. Boris was able to create a great impersonation of a human being that was just resurrected back from the dead. This could be seen throughout the film when the monster is either attacking the creator or simply walking to a set destination. In the film the Mummy, directed by Karl Freund, they both used similar technique as in both films had a dead human being resurrected back alive. Karloff had to bring back the technique used in the film Frankenstein by using its unique movement. He shows the audience the fixed rigid motion of a resurrected mummy. This could also be seen throughout the film when the mummy disguises himself into a modern Egyptian and begin walking and blending in with its surrounding. Another similarity is the fact that in both films, Boris is playing as the antagonist in the film. In Frankenstein, Karloff is seeking revenge against the creator for mistreating him in the lab by seeking the creator's love one.
