The student enjoyed conducting lightning experiments independently and learned that tornadoes can lift people and structures. They wished to study high tides and volcanoes next. Writing scientific reports helped the student improve their explanatory writing, and they took pride in their independent lightning report. Researching tsunamis was easy but extracting relevant information from books for their speech was difficult. The student was proud that they memorized their entire tsunami speech and worked hard to explain their tectonic plate experiment. They enjoyed watching Bill Nye videos during the natural forces unit and may continue researching tsunamis.

1. Natural Forces Reflection
WildWeather Experiments:
My favorite weather experiment was the lightning one because I
did it mostly on my own.An important thing I learned about
weather was that tornadoes maylift people, animals, and houses.
If I did more experiments, I would like to know about high tides
and volcanoes.
Scientific Report Writing:
I wrote scientific reports about air pressure, the water cycle,
static electricity and length. The easiest section to write is the
aim because it is very short.The hardest section to write is the
discussion because in it you have to explain the whole experiment.
I am proud of my report on lightning because it was the first one
I did on my own.While writing these reports, I became better at
writing explanations.
Research:
The natural disaster I researched was tsunamis.
During the research, I found it easy to find books to help us.
I found it difficult to pull out information from books to match
each concept. I worked especially hard at practicing the speech
The best source of information was the book called “Sweeping
Tsunamis” by Louise and Richard Spilsburry.
Delivering My Speech:
I am proud of my documentary because I memorized all of my
speech. I worked especially hard at explaining the tectonic plate
experiment.
What else?!
During this natural forces unit I especially enjoyed Watching “Bill
Nye” videos.After this unit, I might continue to research
tsunamis.
