ā¢ The national body of PR is PRSI (Public Relations Society
of India) established in 1968 at the Capital City, observes
21st April as the National PR Day in India.
ā¢ Indian culture and history has been practising PR since
ancient times through various tools like Monuments,
Traditional Clothing, Festivals, Poems, Books, Literature,
Paintings & Crafts, Folk-tales, Plays and other mediums.
ā¢ In 1912, Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) Adopted
PR as an in-house activity as a Communicating tool for
community relations and started an in-house Department
in 1943 at their HQ in Bombay.
3. Mahatma
Gandhi:
ā¢ Mahatma Gandhi can be
considered a Great PR of
20th Century India
(unofficially), as PR in theory
is a āstrategicā
communication process.
ā¢ Gandhi-ji had influenced and
shaped the opinion & views
of Indian people during
British rule in statistics of
millions with his tactics and
leadership and created a
great impact in the freedom
struggle of the nation.
ā¢ He was a one-man parallel
government against the
British rule.
4. Elementary History:
ā¢ Edward Bernays, the Father of
Public Relations, had coined the
term āPRā or āPublic Relationsā as
an alternative to the word
āPropagandaā since it was
perceived negatively as a
manipulating technique at large.
ā¢ Earlier, Propaganda was used
majorly in Politics and War and to
a certain extent in Religion.
Bernays idea was to implement it
in Corporate and Industrial world
and he had successfully created
a huge impact in Sales,
Perceptions and Crisis of major
organizations then.
5. PRCAI report:
ā¢ According to their research and analysis, in 2017
the PR industry in India was a 1,315 crore
Industry, out of which 29% revenue was
manufactured from Online and Social Media PR
activities.
ā¢ According to their speculations, PR industry in
India would be of 2,100 crore by Fiscal Year
2020.
