What is
Narrative
Text?
Me, Sir! It is a text
which is focusing on
specific
participants which
tells an interesting
story.
So, What is
the purpose
of narrative
text?
It’s easy…!It has
purpose to amuse or
entertain the
readers/listeners
through an
imaginative story.
The main parts of Narrative Text
1. Orientation
It introduces the main characters of the
story, the place and the time where the
story happened.
2. Complication
It shows the problems that happen in
the story. ( The problem arises).
3. Resolution
This part contents about how the
problem can be resolved (for worse or
for better)
Some grammatical features of a narrative
text are :
• Use of past tense.
• Use adverbs and adverbial phrases to
locate the particular events. Such as
one day, once upon time, a long time
ago.
• Use of time connectives and
conjunctions to sequence events
through time, such as however, then,
after that.
Some kinds of Narrative Text
1. Legend
It is a tale about the creation of
something which passed down
through the centuries.
Some of examples :
a. The Legend of Lake Toba
b. The Legend of Malin Kundang.
c. The Legend of A thousand Temples.
2. Fable
It is a fiction tale which involves
animals. The animal can act like a
human.
Some of examples are
a. The monkey and the crocodile.
b. The mouse deer and the crocodile
c. The Crow and The Fox
3. Myth
It is a tale which has no proof of
true events.
Some examples are:
a. The Queen of South Sea
( Nyi Roro Kidul )
b. Timun Emas
c. Keong Emas
