Similarities Between Hopkins And Jennings And Auden s Poetry
Auden loved to write about friendship in all its variations. His poems very often dealt with people who
were still alive. Auden... wrote poems in praise of friends who were alive and he rejoiced in their
vitality (Bold 9).Similarly to him Jennings also likes to write about people who are important to her
.Another similarity is that, like Auden, Elizabeth Jennings looks for order in her poetry. Auden also
sought for order in both his life and art.
Auden was an innovative and influential poet. During his lifetime he tried to write in every possible
poetic form. His importance to poetry is so great that his influence, like Eliot s has become almost a
subconscious one. It is his choice of words and the particular care with language that had an ... Show

poems of an extremely clever young man, but they were more than this, they were also passionate and

incoherent but because Empson ransacked all his hearing and reading to find images that would
express accurately his own states of mind and feeling. (Jennings 95) Empson s poetry is as complex as
his critical theories demanded it should be: a modern counterpart of metaphysical poetry in its use of
scientific conceits and cerebral puzzles. (Ousby

Personal Reflection On Race And Race In A Classroom
Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom setting. I
did not know how comfortable I was with talking about race in a large group of people. After this unit,
I felt a ton more comfortable talking about race, which I think is going to be very helpful going into
high school. Although I found the entire unit very interesting and enlightening, I thought that the
words to use activity and documentary episodes one and two were really important in furthering my
understanding of race and how to talk about race.
Although all of the things that we watched and talked about were very helpful and interesting, the
thing that I found to be the most helpful was the words to use. Staring this unit, one of the things that I
was most worried about was being offensive on accident. I had never really had to talk about race with
a lot of people, and I had no clue why some words were offensive and why some were not. I was
wondering what words had negative connotations, and I was really excited to learn about what words
to use and what words not to use so that I could talk about race more comfortably. The activity was
very helpful. I learned a lot about what words to use and not use, but what really made this part of the
unit incredibly helpful was learning the reasons behind why words were offensive. For example, I
didn t know that some words like European American, or that Latino This activity made me a lot more
comfortable talking about race

12 Signs Of The Zodiac In Western Astrology
There are a total of twelve signs of the zodiac in western astrology; Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer,
Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. People believe that different
signs of the zodiac present different characteristics of those people who were born in those months. It
is said that Leos for example are strong willed yet vain and are represented by the lion; Cancers are
said to be kind and gentle yet subjective, represented by the crab. The connections to the Zodiac, in
the novel Grendel, can be subjective however are very important to the understanding of the story. The
final six chapters of Grendel are represented by the signs of the Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn,
Aquarius, and Pisces.

Grendel s concept of religion is interesting, because the main place you want to hit a person is either
the heart or head in order to kill them. Religion, you follow with your heart, and let go of your mind

Tie Dye Lab
In this lab, we dyed a white shirt with a modern technique and chemically enhanced dyes. Dyeing
fabrics has been an ancient process that has been used by people since the Neolithic Period, which was
a time when humans were just starting to create tools using stone and wood. In 715 BC, wool dyeing
was an actual craft in the booming city of Rome. In 1507, Germany, The Netherlands, and France
began the cultivation of dye plants as an industry. We can conclude that the craft of dyeing fabrics has
been popular with people for a very long time. Tie Dye is a modern term that was created in the 1960s
when the style became popular. Janis Joplin and John Sebastian were two of the major musicians that
brought the style of tie dye to the public. Tie dye

A Brief Note On Chronic Illness And Disabilities
The Social Issue to be Discussed and the Nature of the Issue
Serious, or Chronic, Illness and disabilities affect nearly 72 million working age adults, which is 39
percent of the working population in the United States (Tu and Cohen 2009). Chronic illnesses are
ailments that are protracted, do not resolve spontaneously, and are rarely cured completely (Centers
for Disease Control, 2009). Similar to chronic illness, disabilities tends to be a longer term condition.
The Americans with Disabilities Act defines people as disabled if they have an impairment that
substantially limits one or more major life activities, a record of such an impairment, or are regarded
as having such an impairment (1991).

This is relevant from a social work perspective because clients (employees) with an illness or
disability can be considered a vulnerable population and it is the duty of a social worker, as outlined
by the Code of Ethics, to defend the rights of at risk populations (National Association of Social
Workers, 2008). While there are several Ethical Principles in the Social Work Code of Ethics that
pertain to this specific topic, the most relevant are the values of Social Justice and the Importance of
Human Relationships. As a Social Justice Advocate, a social worker is compelled to act on behalf of
those who are vulnerable and oppressed to ensure that access to information, resources, opportunity,
and involvement in their care is available (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). A social
worker should ensure that the employee has access to all of the rights and benefits they are entitled to,
as well as serve as an advocate for cultural or policy change in order to accommodate the needs of the
client. Additionally, a social worker should value the Importance of Human Relationships and serve as
a liaison between the employer and employee to ensure that a healthy and purposeful relationship is
maintained, and that the

Looking At Real World Managerial Skills
The aim of this essay is to look at real world managerial skills and to see how we can relate
Mintzbergs managerial role to real world managerial practice. We will also analyse the extent of
impact organization size and workplace diversity has on the work of the manager interviewed.
According to Mintzberg, management can be classified into three roles, which are the interpersonal
roles, decisional roles, and informational roles (Mintzberg, 1990). In this essay, our focus would be on
Mintzberg informational role, and to see whether it is relevant to real world managerial work. Through
managers interpersonal contacts, managers act as the nerve center of the organization, they also have
access to more information than subordinates do.

For Mr A there will be a monthly sales target for the store, and it s Mr A job to make sure that store are
on the way to meet the target.
Management is about coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others so that their activities
are completed efficiently and effectively. Henry Mintzberg, a well known management researcher,
concluded that what managers do can best be described by looking at the managerial roles they
engaged at work (Mintzberg, 1973). Through his research, Mintzberg has identified 10 managerial
role from the managers he interviewed, and these three roles can be classified into three: the decisional
roles, informational roles and interpersonal roles. According to Mintzberg, processing information is a
key part of the manager s job (Mintzberg, 1973). Mintzberg indicated that much of the managerial job
involved giving and receiving information. So the informational role is also interrelated with the
interpersonal role (Mintzberg, 1990).
One major part of a manager s duty is to process information. In extensive part, communication is
their work. Three roles describe these informational aspects of managerial work, they are the
disseminator, monitor and spokesperson. Firstly, we will discuss about the role of disseminator.
Disseminator role is where managers communicate potentially useful information to his/her colleagues

The Importance Of The Parent-Child Relationship
The parent s predominate and most important role within the parent child relationship is the role of
teacher. A parent is the main socializing agent. He or she teaches personal integrity, self determination,
interpersonal skills, and core values from an early age (book). Primary parenting functions include
ways of interacting with children to meet their needs (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The initial lessons that
parents share with their children are taught with the hopes of them becoming inherent. Although the
lessons parents teach may evolve based upon the developmental age of their children, the
responsibilities of parents remain. From the time children are born, parents are held accountable for
the socialization of their children as well as meeting their physical and basic needs, supporting the
child emotionally, and communicating with them (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014).
The Parent Child Relationship Over the Life Course Over the life course, children will develop and
grow as the essential encouragement and support evolves as they mature. Parents must be able to
adapt their relationships to continue to provide the support their children require. Several theories can
be applied to understand the parent child relationship, some describing the changes in the relationship
over time (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The Developmental Interaction Theory describes the six stages
experienced by families in the evolution of one s parenthood role observed in individuals as they grow

Hidden Reasons for Kodak s Digital Revolution Essay
Kodak and the Digital Revolution: Case Analysis
Since the early 1880 s, Kodak had proven themselves to be great innovators and had worked on
building their brand on a domestic and international front. They invested heavily in marketing to
establish their image and realized early on that their profits would come from consumables rather than
hardware. They sold their equipment at low prices in order to fuel their highly profitable film sales.
This use of a razor blade strategy, coupled with strong relationships with retailers positioned Kodak as
an industry leader. Additionally, their heavy investment in R amp;D allowed Kodak to grow
organically, proving fruitful with the advent of color film. Thus, Kodak s expertise in color film ...

Supported Employment
Supported Employment Research When it comes to working, a lot of people look at employment as
something they have to do to make money to pay bills, or as a stepping stone into a job where they can
work less but make more. At the end of the day, very rarely does someone look at employment as
something that is therapeutic, and actually proves to be good for self esteem and quality of life.
Additionally, today work is used as a therapeutic process of getting individuals with severe mental

studies compared a newly established IPS program with one or more well established vocational

participants were unemployed at the time of study admission. Other common eligibility criteria
included desire for competitive work, ability and willingness to give informed consent, and absence of
significant medical conditions that would preclude working or participating in assessment interviews.
In addition, all participants were required to attend multiple research information meetings in which
the project was explained, after which they gave written informed consent to participate in the study.
All 4 studies used a similar protocol to track employment outcomes and psychiatric symptoms.

Have you ever been fail in your life? How do you face with that failure? And what did you say with

It is a habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determined how you will interpret and respond to

Informative Essay On Richard Rozen s Life
Life has not always been fun and games for a brave holocaust survivor named Richard Rozen.
Richard was six years old when he and his family had to hide in a cupboard for thirteen months. He
and his family were then forced to move to the Lublin ghetto. It was dangerous for him there, so he
had to hide in a cupboard. Being a child, he would always disobey and look outside wondering why he
had to be in hiding instead of playing. What he saw is nothing a six year old should see. He saw
people who were killed and left naked. When he was about eight years old he and his family were
smuggled to a polish village. He had to dress and act like a girl so they wouldn t get caught. Richard
had to change his name to Marisa Ulecki. He was then soon discovered and had to leave his mother
and go join his father in Partisans for eighteen months. Richards father was then soon captured by the
germans and never to be seen again. At that time Richard went and rejoined his mother. He then had to

I ve always heard stories about the holocaust because my family on my mother s side went through the
holocaust. My mom s great grandfather was a Rosenberg and in order to escape, he and his family had
to hide and change their name to Rosenberger in order to not be on the list of Jews as they fled to
America. Richard s story has affected the world in many ways. The first way is it helped people
understand what it was like to be and to survive the holocaust. The second way would be it helps
people like me who have family that were in the holocaust understand it more. The last reason is that
it is inspiring to people. To hear how brave he was when he was six years old. It makes people realize
that if a little six year old boy can survive the holocaust, and grow up to tell his story then we should
be able to be as brave as him and face our

Semiochemicals Essay
Semiochemicals are organic molecules that transmit chemical messages within the same or different
species of animals and plants. There are multiple distinctions within semiochemicals like pheromones,
kairomones and allomones (Zumdahl, 1989). Pheromones are chemicals that have an effect on the
receptors within similar species of the producer, and they tend to be highly volatile compounds (ibid).
There are different types of pheromones according to the response they stimulate on the receiving
party, as shown in figure 1. Volatile pheromones are represented as either sex or defensive pheromones
and they usually produce a specific odor.
The sex pheromone is usually produced by females that ultimately results in the attraction of males
which leads to mating. Sex pheromone focuses on attracting the opposite sex and transmitting
information regarding their species, age and sex; therefore sex pheromones play a role in reproduction
(Regnier and Law, 1968). On the other end of the spectrum, alarm pheromones are highly volatile
compounds that are released upon encountering danger, and they are also used for alerting others to a
threat, making them vital for survival (Landolt et al., 1999; Post et al., 1984). The formation, uses,
application, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An advantage to humans in bait trapping would be to use sex pheromone chemicals to reduce the
population of snakes and lizards in a certain area. Another related advantage to humans by using alarm
pheromone chemicals is to repel snakes and lizards from a certain area that could be harmful to the
animals themselves or to the humans (Radcliffe et al., 2008). On the other hand, mate disruption could
be a disadvantage to animals. Mate disruption, which usually occurs in insects, involves the release of
large amounts of sex pheromones, released by the females, resulting in the confusion of the males and
the inability to locate females, as shown in figure

Essay on The Rich Brother by Tobias Wolff
The short story, The Rich Brother, by Tobias Wolff represents the same concept that everyday people
all over the world encounter. This portrays how having siblings can be an enormous part of a persons
life. The rivalry between siblings is often very competitive, but at the same time similar to magnets.
When they are not connected it may seem they are independent and whole, but when examined closely
it is obvious they are really relying on each other to function properly. Although Pete and Donald s life
are separate and completely different, they are in fact very dependent on each other.
The meaning of dependence is the act of being influenced, relying on, or needing someone for aid or
support. Dependence is one of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even thought Pete does not show caring emotions, his actions say all the words. For example: Donald
said, Pete do you ever dream about me? Pete replied with, What kind of question is that? Of course I
don t dream about you. He said untruthfully. (pg.367). This is one of the only parts in this short story
that shows the reader a very small part of Pete s soft side. Another example compares in a similar way
that Pete does in fact have a connection with his only brother Donald. There was something wrong
with me, and you were helping me out. Taking care of me. Just the two of us. I don t know where
everyone else was supposed to be. Pete said. (pg. 369) If someone were to analyze only this part of the
story it would portray that in his dream he depended on Donald. When he says it was just the two of
them, it gives the reader an idea that was the way it was supposed to be, that Pete didn t need anyone
else in the world to help him but only needed the person he could truly rely upon. Dependency is one
of the main concealed habits between siblings, not only growing up, but continuously throughout one
others life. Another common inconspicuous idiosyncrasy is rivalry. Rivalry is often associated in
competition including sports, events, and mostly a trait that seems siblings are born with. The urge to
be the best at something or to be noticed is commonly seen in children, especially the ones similar in
age that always strive for attention. In this story, Wolff includes

Le Marias Character Analysis
In Act 1 of Le Marias, the two main characters prove to have vastly different personalities. These
characters differences are apparent from the onset of the film. The director shows Elie, a worker at this
factory, going about his chores and not speaking to anyone. In opposition to Elie the two other
workers go about their work in a very sociable manner while translating for the artist and the owner of
the factory. The gregarious and affable attitude that the assistant has exaggerates the quietness of Elie.
Due to the assistants seemingly outgoing manner, he is driven by a personal inclination to approach
Elie and talk to him. In Act 2, the assistant and Elie have a seemingly one sided conversation.

I Am A Teacher s Degree Program
Since I was a little girl, I have expressed a great interest in and love for reading. I know my love for
reading is one of the reasons I became a teacher. I was excited to pursue a career where I could share
my love of reading and books with my students. As I began student teaching, however, I realized not
all children have had the same experiences as I have had with reading. Although I am not sure I want
to be a literacy specialist, I chose the literacy Master s Degree program because I wanted to help all
children, especially struggling readers, develop a love for reading and become successful readers and
writers. If I had not seen children struggle with reading, I am not sure if I would have ever chosen
literacy for my Master s program. I know each child I meet comes with different experiences and
needs. Prior to the classes I took in this program, however, I did not consider how those experiences
would impact a child s attitude towards reading and the meaning they made from what they read.
Learning about Rosenblatt s transactional theory helped me to realize the print children engage with
has meaning and a message. The message is then determined by the what the reader brings with them.
As a classroom teacher, and possibly a future literacy specialist, this was important for me to learn
because I realized I needed to first really know who my students are as individuals before I could
assess and help them as a reader. As I have been teaching, I have realized it can be

Use Of Pinctuations In A Midsummer Night s Dream By...
We live in a world of plummeting punctuation standards according to Ms.Truss. Many people don t
take punctuation seriously. Many people think it s useless. There are many punctuation mistakes, no
matter where one looks. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is about how careless many people are with the use
of punctuations and why they are very important to modern day English. She shows how punctuations
were used correctly and incorrectly in older literature pieces. She gives a list of how to correctly use
commas, exclamation points, etc. She also references other punctuation/grammatical books. Unlike
many of Shakespeare s pieces, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is against the punctuation Shakespeare used
in his writing.
Punctuation can change a sentence drastically. For example We do not come as minding to content
you, our true intent is. All for your delight we are not here. William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night
s Dream,Act V, scene i. This sentence has many punctuation errors. Shakespeare writes our true intent
is. All for your delight instead of putting a comma he uses a period, this makes the text dramatic, but
punctually incorrect.Since Shakespeare has authority in the literature community, he was idolized for
the punctuation error. Many people like Shakespeare deliberately defied punctuations and the writing
was a success. If you misplace a punctuation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Gender in The Crime Drama Fiction Genre

television genre is based on apparent similarities, differences and on expectations as well as
assumptions shared by the viewers. It is also a cross cultural translatability as it is understood in a
diversity of contexts and markets. According to Graeme Burton (2000), the genre study leads to
understanding of audience pleasures and revelation of cultural myths. Also an understanding of
finance and marketing within television and finally an understanding of intertextuality and
postmodernist forms of television. However audiences are aware of the codes and conventions that

The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel Analysis
Its a Doughy Situation
Food, the backbone of a community, the foundation on which an empire stands, or even the soulmate

Two brothers, one rich, sucessful, brawny, and has a knack for snacks. The other, sad, closed off,
creepy, and not surprising, does not have a knack for snacks or sweets. Two opposites, the story not
complete without the other. Now the story would not be complete without one becoming completely

Advertising Appeal Of Sex Is Victoria s Secret
Every commercial appeals to something; whether its nature, guidance or even attention. People have
almost never notice this except when they are browsing through a magazine and notice a Calvin Klein
add. When a commercial is showing bras, panties, and underwear most of the time the company is
using the appeals to sex. This is completely obvious just by looking at Calvin Klein ads. Some
commercials sell products that look too sexual that it makes the general public uncomfortable. the ads
from Dolce Gabbana sometimes can come to people s mind. Most of these ads have been so
sexualized it makes family time awkward. Most common commercial that uses the appeal of sex is

Advertising appeals try to use people s emotions to attract a certain type of audience, whether it is

time a person wakes up to the time they go to sleep. Obviously the media has come up with good ideas

Why Lying Is A Common Behavior
Reasons for lying Lying is a common behavior in today s society. But ever since we were young we
were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that lying
was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are
cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white lie which states that you are telling a lie
to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote
Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places
because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who
runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their
lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are
basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see
lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they
might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is
receiving the lie.
Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger
mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one feel
as if they can t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they

Atrial Fibrillation with No Structural Heart Disease...

Approximately 10% to 30% of patients with atrial flibrillation (AF) do not present structural heart
disease or have a comorbidity such as hypertension. Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent arrhythmia
in daily practice that occurs under diverse situations and its treatment should be based on the different

5) Only 12% of AFFIRM patients did not have structural heart disease, constituting a small group that
should have undergone long term follow up to demonstrate the presence of differences.
The low mortality rate observed in patients without heart disease, even in the absence of an effective
therapy, makes it difficult to demonstrate any variation in the prognosis. The basic objective in these
patients is to improve symptoms and quality of life, to avoid the adverse effects of antiarrhythmic
agents and to cure the arrhythmia in order to prevent the development of atrial dilation, need for
anticoagulant therapy and increased risk. In population based studies, as the Framingham study, the
presence of AF increased long term mortality 1.5 to 1.9 times.
WHAT ABOUT THE RISK OF EMBOLISM?
The risk of embolism is one of the major problems in patients with AF. The annual risk of stroke in
patients with a CHADS score = 0 is low, 0.36%; yet, the risk or stroke exists. Interestingly, patients
with persistent or chronic lone AF have a risk of embolism of 1.3% per year, and this percentage may

deals with patients without structural heart disease, patients with AF frequently have hypertension, a

The Ganges River Of India
The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use, industry,
and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in the region s
cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the Earthly
manifestation of the Hindu goddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed that Ganga
can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her (Conway). As a
result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the river on a daily
basis.
Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their sins
and grant spiritual rewards such as deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das). Hindus
believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an assurance of heavenly bliss and will grant
emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das). Due to this belief, millions of people use
the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious ceremonies, poor people
who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and placed in the river (BBC).
Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the river. These religious practices
are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of the Ganges River near Varanasi. If
the quality of water continues to become even more degraded, a crucial part of the

existing copyrights and were even encouraging users to download unlicensed copyrighted materials.
When the recording industry won this landmark lawsuit, Napster stopped offering their file sharing
services to users, and soon their company failed. The Institute for Policy Innovation make a
conclusion that global music piracy causes $12.5 billion of economic losses every year, 71,060 U.S.
jobs lost, a loss of $2.7 billion in workers earnings, and a loss of $422 million in tax revenues, $291
million in personal income tax and $131 million in lost corporate income and production taxes. Today,
most people who download music illegally do it by using new peer to peer networks like BitTorrent.
The BitTorrent protocol is for of handling a lot of data very quickly and is very popular for people
who upload and download copies of movies and television programs that have no license. In more
recent years, dozens of major record labels and Hollywood studios have begun offering legal videos
and tracks through BitTorrent in order to distribute their content on their own terms and avoid the

Aristotle s Idea of Tragedy and the Play Fires in the...
Aristotle was a phenomenal Greek philosopher. His words and thoughts inspired millions, and
continue inspiring today. He taught lessons to those who would listen, he preached his scientific
findings, but above all, Aristotle enjoyed the theatre. In fact, Aristotle had his own views about
different genres. Today we will look at tragedy. In Aristotle s mind, a tragedy was the process of
imitating an action which had serious implications, was complete, and possessed magnitude. He even
composed six elements that a tragedy must contain. Aristotle s six elements of tragedy are a plot,
characters, thought, verbal expression, song composition, and visual adornment. Each contributes to
an aspect of a tragedy. Fires in the Mirror, written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another place where Fires in the Mirror challenges Aristotle. Fires in the Mirror had many
characters, but no hero. Not to mention that Fires in the Mirror also had female roles. In Aristotle s
day, women could not perform in plays because it was against the law. In fact, women didn t have a
significant role in society at all. They were merely domestic property unless they were of royal status.
This meant the protagonist in the plays were usually male. Nowadays, women have rights and many
plays use both men and women to act as the protagonist. The third element in Aristotle s tragedy list is
thought. The way we describe thought is the way a character reasons. Aristotle argues that the
characters of a play are logical. Fires in the Mirror challenges this element because Anna Devere
Smith made most of her characters react off of emotion, rather than logicality. During the Greek era,
the hero of a play was directly related to the situation, but they still used logic to determine their
action. I believe Anna Devere Smith illustrated reality a bit better. Very few people use logic to
describe their opinion. Instead, many of us use emotional ties because we base our thoughts on past
experiences, parental beliefs, and the popularity votes. Fires in the Mirror covers some very personal
and sketchy issues where emotions typically would come before logistics, such as racism, death,
slavery, the holocaust, and poverty. Aristotle s

A Look Into The Window Of The West
A Look into the Window of the West
Before the reign of Czar Peter the Great (1682 1725), Russia, had hardly ever been regarded as a part
of Europe. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful
Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the country
was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as cultural ones. Even
after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting travelers from all over the
European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis Dashwood. Dashwood was an English
politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British Cabinet level position that appointed him as head
of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St. Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was
fascinated by daily life in Russia and decided to write a diary to document this fascination. In his
diary, he examined refinements to Russo culture, architecture and government through a series of
detailed excerpts outlining what he observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is
exceptionally unique in that there had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930
s (in English) of St. Petersburg on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be
published in 1959, it would open a myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of
Western Europe, about St. Petersburg and Russia s Westernization

Compare And Contrast Huntington And Fukuyama
Samuel Huntington and Francis Fukuyama
The Berlin Wall was about to fall, the Soviet Union was collapsing, and the world was clamoring for
the consumerist boom in an orgy of free market handful experience, international politics began
travelling out of a Westernized phase, and the relation between the West and the rest began to
crystallize and contest.
Huntington and Fukuyama both provide ground breaking paradigms that explain the complexities of
an embryonic post Cold War world. Their distinct ideologies are a result of their respective false
consciousness which, stems from particular political ideas embodying different social interests.
Huntington peddles a culturalist thesis whilst Fukuyama embodies a framework of universalization of
western liberal democracy in the socio cultural evolution to the end point of human governance.
Fukuyama presented his argument in 1992, and his teacher responded in 1993 with his theory, The
clash of civilizations . Not only do their theories differ from one another, but we see a stark difference
in their writing style as well. Huntington refers to his thesis as a hypothesis, indicating an experiment
rather than a mere opinion, which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is clearly indicating how Fukuyama is an optimistic neo liberal who favors freedom and
democratic features and procedures. Fukuyama was careful to stress that he was not implying that
contestation isn t a probability, or that there would be no countries left in the world that did not
conform to the liberal democratic model. At the end of history, he wrote, it is not necessary that all
societies become successful liberal societies, merely that they end their ideological pretensions of
representing different and higher forms of human society. (Fukuyama,

Normative Gender Roles
Formally began by André Breton and influenced by Freud s vision of repressed, sexual desire, and
hallucinating conscious, gender and sexuality served as a basis of analysis and questioning for the
Surrealist artists. They believed that the women were the way to reach into subconscious of the male
mind and so femininity became the central focus of Surrealism. With the focus on femininity, the
sexuality and gender roles were explored and challenged by several female Surrealist artists such as
Claude Cahun in a way that they rejected some of the conventional perception of femininity. At the
same time, some other Surrealist artists such as Man Ray and Hans Bellmer reaffirmed the normative
gender roles by reinforcing dominant gender norms through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is evident in one of Man Ray s photographs, Érotique voilée (1933). In this work, Man Ray
exhibited a nude female covered with ink, pressing against a printers wheel in a very erotic manner.
She was positioned in a very center of the photograph and was displayed with the wheel in which it
gave a sense of sexual objectification of female in a way that she was treated as a part of the
machinery, not as a separate individual. Similarly, his other work, Le Violon d Ingres (1924), features
a nude woman with f holes added in her back in which it gives the impression of her being the body of
a violin, something to be played that she is nothing more than a muse or sexual object that can be
manipulated by male dominant. As for Hans Bellmer, he constructed life sized dolls that were
violently and sexually degraded images of young girls. The doll (1936) is a photograph of Bellmer s
sexualized, distorted and dismantled sculpture of female body. The sexuality of female was used by
Bellmer to represent the unconscious sexual fantasies of male through toy like associations where it let
the female body to be easily controlled by the male owner. In both Man Ray and Hans Bellmer work,
the female body was interpreted as a sexualized object of erotic pleasure designed for male in which
they reinforced the gender stereotypes of women by depicting them as inferior to

Auden... wrote poems in praise of friends who were alive and he rejoiced in their vitality (Bold 9).Similarly to him Jennings also likes to write about people who are important to her .Another similarity is that, like Auden, Elizabeth Jennings looks for order in her poetry. Auden also sought for order in both his life and art. Auden was an innovative and influential poet. During his lifetime he tried to write in every possible poetic form. • 3. Personal Reflection On Race And Race In A Classroom Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom setting. I did not know how comfortable I was with talking about race in a large group of people. After this unit, I felt a ton more comfortable talking about race, which I think is going to be very helpful going into high school. Although I found the entire unit very interesting and enlightening, I thought that the words to use activity and documentary episodes one and two were really important in furthering my understanding of race and how to talk about race. Although all of the things that we watched and talked about were very helpful and interesting, the thing that I found to be the most helpful was the words to use. Staring this unit, one of the things that I was most worried about was being offensive on accident. I had never really had to talk about race with a lot of people, and I had no clue why some words were offensive and why some were not. I was wondering what words had negative connotations, and I was really excited to learn about what words to use and what words not to use so that I could talk about race more comfortably. The activity was very helpful. I learned a lot about what words to use and not use, but what really made this part of the unit incredibly helpful was learning the reasons behind why words were offensive. For example, I didn t know that some words like European American, or that Latino This activity made me a lot more comfortable talking about race ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A parent is the main socializing agent. He or she teaches personal integrity, self determination, interpersonal skills, and core values from an early age (book). Primary parenting functions include ways of interacting with children to meet their needs (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The initial lessons that parents share with their children are taught with the hopes of them becoming inherent. Although the lessons parents teach may evolve based upon the developmental age of their children, the responsibilities of parents remain. It was dangerous for him there, so he had to hide in a cupboard. Being a child, he would always disobey and look outside wondering why he had to be in hiding instead of playing. There are multiple distinctions within semiochemicals like pheromones, kairomones and allomones (Zumdahl, 1989). Pheromones are chemicals that have an effect on the receptors within similar species of the producer, and they tend to be highly volatile compounds (ibid). There are different types of pheromones according to the response they stimulate on the receiving party, as shown in figure 1. Volatile pheromones are represented as either sex or defensive pheromones and they usually produce a specific odor. The sex pheromone is usually produced by females that ultimately results in the attraction of males which leads to mating. Sex pheromone focuses on attracting the opposite sex and transmitting information regarding their species, age and sex; therefore sex pheromones play a role in reproduction (Regnier and Law, 1968). On the other end of the spectrum, alarm pheromones are highly volatile compounds that are released upon encountering danger, and they are also used for alerting others to a threat, making them vital for survival (Landolt et al., 1999; Post et al., 1984). This portrays how having siblings can be an enormous part of a persons life. The rivalry between siblings is often very competitive, but at the same time similar to magnets. When they are not connected it may seem they are independent and whole, but when examined closely it is obvious they are really relying on each other to function properly. Of course I don t dream about you. He said untruthfully. (pg.367). This is one of the only parts in this short story that shows the reader a very small part of Pete s soft side. Another example compares in a similar way that Pete does in fact have a connection with his only brother Donald. There was something wrong with me, and you were helping me out. Taking care of me. Just the two of us. I don t know where everyone else was supposed to be. Pete said. (pg. 369) If someone were to analyze only this part of the story it would portray that in his dream he depended on Donald. When he says it was just the two of them, it gives the reader an idea that was the way it was supposed to be, that Pete didn t need anyone else in the world to help him but only needed the person he could truly rely upon. Dependency is one of the main concealed habits between siblings, not only growing up, but continuously throughout one others life. Another common inconspicuous idiosyncrasy is rivalry. Rivalry is often associated in competition including sports, events, and mostly a trait that seems siblings are born with. The urge to be the best at something or to be noticed is commonly seen in children, especially the ones similar in age that always strive for attention. In this story, Wolff includes ... Many people think it s useless. There are many punctuation mistakes, no matter where one looks. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is about how careless many people are with the use of punctuations and why they are very important to modern day English. She gives a list of how to correctly use commas, exclamation points, etc. She also references other punctuation/grammatical books. Unlike many of Shakespeare s pieces, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is against the punctuation Shakespeare used in his writing. Punctuation can change a sentence drastically. • 36. Why Lying Is A Common Behavior Reasons for lying Lying is a common behavior in today s society. But ever since we were young we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white lie which states that you are telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie. Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger mentality and can withstand being told a lie. For thousands of years, people have believed that Ganga can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her (Conway). • 41. Aristotle s Idea of Tragedy and the Play Fires in the... Aristotle was a phenomenal Greek philosopher. His words and thoughts inspired millions, and continue inspiring today. He taught lessons to those who would listen, he preached his scientific findings, but above all, Aristotle enjoyed the theatre. In fact, Aristotle had his own views about different genres. Today we will look at tragedy. In Aristotle s mind, a tragedy was the process of imitating an action which had serious implications, was complete, and possessed magnitude. He even composed six elements that a tragedy must contain. Aristotle s six elements of tragedy are a plot, characters, thought, verbal expression, song composition, and visual adornment. Each contributes to an aspect of a tragedy. Fires in the Mirror, written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is another place where Fires in the Mirror challenges Aristotle. Fires in the Mirror had many characters, but no hero. Not to mention that Fires in the Mirror also had female roles. In Aristotle s day, women could not perform in plays because it was against the law. In fact, women didn t have a significant role in society at all. They were merely domestic property unless they were of royal status. This meant the protagonist in the plays were usually male. Nowadays, women have rights and many plays use both men and women to act as the protagonist. The third element in Aristotle s tragedy list is thought. The way we describe thought is the way a character reasons. Aristotle argues that the characters of a play are logical. Fires in the Mirror challenges this element because Anna Devere Smith made most of her characters react off of emotion, rather than logicality. During the Greek era, the hero of a play was directly related to the situation, but they still used logic to determine their action. I believe Anna Devere Smith illustrated reality a bit better. Very few people use logic to describe their opinion. Instead, many of us use emotional ties because we base our thoughts on past experiences, parental beliefs, and the popularity votes. Fires in the Mirror covers some very personal and sketchy issues where emotions typically would come before logistics, such as racism, death, slavery, the holocaust, and poverty. Aristotle s ... • 42. A Look Into The Window Of The West A Look into the Window of the West Before the reign of Czar Peter the Great (1682 1725), Russia, had hardly ever been regarded as a part of Europe. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the country was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as cultural ones. Even after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting travelers from all over the European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis Dashwood. Dashwood was an English politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British Cabinet level position that appointed him as head of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St. Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was fascinated by daily life in Russia and decided to write a diary to document this fascination. In his diary, he examined refinements to Russo culture, architecture and government through a series of detailed excerpts outlining what he observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is exceptionally unique in that there had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930 s (in English) of St. Petersburg on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be published in 1959, it would open a myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of Western Europe, about St. Petersburg and Russia s Westernization ... • 43. Compare And Contrast Huntington And Fukuyama Samuel Huntington and Francis Fukuyama The Berlin Wall was about to fall, the Soviet Union was collapsing, and the world was clamoring for the consumerist boom in an orgy of free market handful experience, international politics began travelling out of a Westernized phase, and the relation between the West and the rest began to crystallize and contest. Huntington and Fukuyama both provide ground breaking paradigms that explain the complexities of an embryonic post Cold War world. Their distinct ideologies are a result of their respective false consciousness which, stems from particular political ideas embodying different social interests. Huntington peddles a culturalist thesis whilst Fukuyama embodies a framework of universalization of western liberal democracy in the socio cultural evolution to the end point of human governance. Fukuyama presented his argument in 1992, and his teacher responded in 1993 with his theory, The clash of civilizations . Not only do their theories differ from one another, but we see a stark difference in their writing style as well. Huntington refers to his thesis as a hypothesis, indicating an experiment rather than a mere opinion, which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is clearly indicating how Fukuyama is an optimistic neo liberal who favors freedom and democratic features and procedures. Fukuyama was careful to stress that he was not implying that contestation isn t a probability, or that there would be no countries left in the world that did not conform to the liberal democratic model. At the end of history, he wrote, it is not necessary that all societies become successful liberal societies, merely that they end their ideological pretensions of representing different and higher forms of human society. • 44. Normative Gender Roles Formally began by André Breton and influenced by Freud s vision of repressed, sexual desire, and hallucinating conscious, gender and sexuality served as a basis of analysis and questioning for the Surrealist artists. They believed that the women were the way to reach into subconscious of the male mind and so femininity became the central focus of Surrealism. With the focus on femininity, the sexuality and gender roles were explored and challenged by several female Surrealist artists such as Claude Cahun in a way that they rejected some of the conventional perception of femininity. At the same time, some other Surrealist artists such as Man Ray and Hans Bellmer reaffirmed the normative gender roles by reinforcing dominant gender norms through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is evident in one of Man Ray s photographs, Érotique voilée (1933). In this work, Man Ray exhibited a nude female covered with ink, pressing against a printers wheel in a very erotic manner. She was positioned in a very center of the photograph and was displayed with the wheel in which it gave a sense of sexual objectification of female in a way that she was treated as a part of the machinery, not as a separate individual. Similarly, his other work, Le Violon d Ingres (1924), features a nude woman with f holes added in her back in which it gives the impression of her being the body of a violin, something to be played that she is nothing more than a muse or sexual object that can be manipulated by male dominant. As for Hans Bellmer, he constructed life sized dolls that were violently and sexually degraded images of young girls. The doll (1936) is a photograph of Bellmer s sexualized, distorted and dismantled sculpture of female body. The sexuality of female was used by Bellmer to represent the unconscious sexual fantasies of male through toy like associations where it let the female body to be easily controlled by the male owner. In both Man Ray and Hans Bellmer work, the female body was interpreted as a sexualized object of erotic pleasure designed for male in which they reinforced the gender stereotypes of women by depicting them as inferior to ...
