Horse Power Farm Video Analysis
The three videos I choose to watch were Horse Power Farm, Lakeside Orchards, and Ayotte Farm.
Horse Power Farm is located in Penobscot, Maine and owned by Paul Birdsall. The distinguishing
features are on the farm s focus for producing vegetables and timber, and relying on their horses
instead of machinery. Paul s farmis specifically a mixed practice as they do have a tractor, but draft
horses are the key component. Another unique aspect of this farm is that as Paul said, training
apprentices is the most important thing they do. Without the apprentices help, they are limited in
the amount of work they can get done. Lakeside Orchards is located in Kennebec County and is
owned by Steve and Marilyn Meyerhans. They also own The Apple Farm located in Fairfield,
Maine. The distinguishing features for these two farms are the apples and apple products
produced. They also have two farm stands, one of which is opened year round. Unlike the other
two videos I watched, this couple had no prior experience before buying Lakeside Orchards. The

This farm only produces potatoes, yielding roughly 350 400 weights per acre. Out of all the
videos, Scott seemed to use the most machinery to pick and harvest his produce. He explained
they first started out only using harvesters, but in order to become more efficient they began
using special roller machines. These are designed to sift the potatoes and transfer them to another
row so the harvester is able to pick up multiple rows at once. In addition, Ayotte Farm was unique
in that they re involved in a contract system. Because of this they mainly grow a certain type of
potato for the french fry industry. The benefit of this is a steady income without having to worry
about market fluctuations. The downfall is cost can vary and fluctuate in a short period of time
when a contract is already set in place, therefore the farm has to take the

A Theology Of Leadership For Christ s Church
Theology is an attempt to explain God and his relationship to our world and humanity, while
leadership is the human endeavor or capacity to lead or guide others through an operation, activity,
task, or even through life. To build a theology of leadership is to build on the interrelation between
these two. In order to develop a true theology of leadership, thoughtful reflection on Biblical
scripture and the leadership of those called by God must be examined. What I assert is that of all
the models that we have examined that Servant Leadership is a theology of leadership for Christ
centered pastoral leadership within Christ s church.
Northouse defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of
individuals to achieve a common goal. Leadership as it works through those in pastoral
leadership in the church then is a process whereby an individual who has been influenced by the
works of Christ as they have journeyed the path of faith and come to embrace and embody Christ
and the gospel message within their own life then in acceptance of Christ s call upon their life goes
out to influence, invite, and empower others to embrace and embody the gospel in their own lives.
For the not yet established church it was Christ who was the original influencer of a ragtag group
of disciples and followers who came to embrace and embody His gospel message and through
which Christ would build His church. So who better to look to when looking at leadership and

Zoning
Simply put, zoning, in a planning or land use context, is the classification of the land in a
community into districts with different regulations for its utilization. Zoning and other methods of
land use control have evolved with the primary objectives of promoting the health, safety, and
wellbeing of residents while minimizing the negative impacts of one activity or use upon others.
Zoningis effectively a legislative process whereby a community prioritizes values associated with
land, development, and associated activities. A zoning system generally includes map or plan
elements which define areas where like regulations apply, and a textual, usually relatively locally
legislated ordinance, code, or law consisting of definitions and... Show more content on

The final general type of zoning regulation limits the physical and spatial form of development.
Examples of this type include restrictions on building heights, setbacks, road widths, building
materials, and architectural style.
In the first third of the 20th century, the United States saw zoning become an accepted tool in land
use regulation. New York City passed a zoning plan in 1916. This set of rules primarily focused
on building form and setbacks, and included a now routine provision for variances. The New York
law was primarily a response to a technological innovation the skyscraper and the arising concerns
associated with it.
Many States adopted the Standard State Zoning Enabling Acts of 1922, which was offered as a
model by the U.S. Department of Commerce and provided a framework and codified a general
legal basis for zoning across the country. The Department of Commerce also introduced a Standard
City Planning Enabling Act, which was widely adopted beginning in 1928. These acts put into
place the general structure of local and regional planning and zoning which is still used today.
Elements and entities such as the Planning Commission, the Master Plan, subdivision control
measures, and provision for regional planning bodies and plans were primarily introduced by the
Standard City Planning Enabling Act.

Economical Monday Marketing Strategy
It s only shallow people who do not judge the world by appearances. The mystery of the world is
the visible, not the invisible.
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
This quotation by one of the greatest writer and thinker of the twentieth century nicely illustrates
the topic which is going to be discussed in this paper; the notions that underlie and has triggered the
enormous international success and which at the same time threatens such popularity of Cheap
Monday the Swedish fashion brand.
Cheap Monday had probably made its widest international depute on the 19th of September, 2007
when Serena van der Woodsen portrayed by Blake Lively was arriving at Grand Central station in

constantly highlight their individual freedom and make a statement with the actual act of

information on Cheap Monday I have gained the knowledge of online Cheap Monday
communities (Facebook for instance), where people with the same common interest and values can
meet to share and maintain the symbolic meanings relating the brand while creating a platform for
discussion, or dialogue similar to the old cafe houses that were the melting pot of intellectual
challenges in Baudelaire s Paris. The importance of these platforms is indubitable as it is
elaborately discussed in more detail: In order for the meaning of brands to become fully concrete,
the mediated meaning derived from advertising and promotion must be negotiated with the lived
experience of purchase and usage, and particularly for brands with social symbolic positioning
strategies these meanings must be validated through discursive elaboration in a social context
(Elliott and Wattanasuwan, 1998).
Apparently, the worshipers of Cheap Monday had made the brand so big that it soon attracted the
Swedish fashion colossus H M. In the spring of 2008 HM acquired 60% of shares in Cheap

National Debt Is Not Always A Bad Thing
When I first thought of national debt I thought about only the cons and disadvantages of having it.
I never gave thought as to what the advantages of having it may be. National debt is the amount
of money the federal government owes to lenders outside of itself. When the Treasury borrows
funds, it issues Treasury bonds; these are IOUs of the federal government. In other words, the
national debt is a stock of IOUs created by annual deficitflows. (Schiller 261) With the help of
research and my economics class, I have learned that having national debt is not always a bad
thing. For example, the financial crisis of 2008 2009 and the effects it had on the economy and
people was horrible. However, I learned that if it weren t for the increase in government borrowing
by bailing out banks and financial markets, the banks and financial markets could have froze and
that would have thrown us into a Great Depression type run on banks. If the government uses its
debt the right way, then it will allow the government to do things that it couldn t really do before. I
believe investing that debt instead of spending it would be the wiser choice. The government
sometimes spends money so that consumers will have money but they just end up spending it. This
is just a way for the government to stimulate spending at that moment. That s just a short term
benefit. Therefore, by investing its debt in things such as medical and technological research and
education will create a long term

Women s Rights Of Female Athletes
In 1972, Title IX has banned sexual unfairness not only in education programs, but also in the
athletic programs. This federal law applies to all organizations that receive federal funds and must
function in an equal manner. Gender equity has been a major problem in our society for quite some
time, and now it has migrated to athletics. According to the Office of Civil Rights some keys issues
which recipients have Title IX obligations are: recruitment, admissions, financial assistance;
athletics; sex based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single sex
education; and employment (OCR, 2015). Fair treatment for female athletes has been a huge matter
in athletics. The Office of Civil Rights issued guidelines offering equal opportunity rights to all
athletes including the temporary disability of pregnant female athletes. Prior to OCR putting this
policy to effect there were many reasons universities neglect pregnant female athletes. According to
Pitt Law there are a few reasons: first, too many individuals in society believe sport is pervasively
masculine organization that is constructed around men. Secondly, women s ability to reproduce is
used against them to exclude them from sports. Furthermore, the beliefs of gender and race have
long combined to stigmatize young women who have children outside of marriage and in
precarious financial circumstances (Brake, 2008). For any athlete committing to a university on
behalf of a sport the

Sir Richard Branson s Management Skills
Sir Richard Branson is strong in all three of the essential management skills. From the standpoint
of technical skills, started the business from the ground up, so he had to develop strong technical
skills to make his business successful. He has the conceptual skills to be able to have a far
reaching vision for a huge business empire and to look at the market and see what gaps his
companies can fill. Additionally, his human skills are quite impressive, with his strong focus on
employee happiness, customer satisfaction, and family.

I ve always preferred to be able to work on a project without having to worry about checking with
someone every time I need to do something. I like that there is so much freedom to create and
innovate. I do think that some people might be bothered by how willing Sir Richard is to take
risks, especially people with a high level of uncertainty avoidance, but I personally like his
attitude of trying things that people think are impossible. I think he does a good job of connecting
those under him to his brand. He s a leader who inspires and who makes people believe they re part
of something bigger than themselves.
I think that although he may be unconventional at times, Sir Richard Branson is an excellent
leader, and I hope to emulate many of his leadership traits. I honestly felt like I learned a lot about
leadership success while looking into how he runs his business. A lot of it reinforced lessons from
the course, but it was nice seeing a real world example of how those principles are being applied on
a daily basis. I am glad I selected him as my case study for this class and I would feel honored if I

Beach Boys Caroline
For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many
characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and
the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of
Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response
relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this
exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made
the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The
quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have
heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does
not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady
tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song
talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first verse, at the end of each line there is rhyme. For example, where did your long hair
go, where is the girl that I used to know, how could you lose that happy glow, oh Caroline no.
The words go, know, glow and no all rhyme with each other. This is also present in the second
verse between the words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with
melisma. For instance, the word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical
element adds to the smooth and earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. Also, there is falsetto and
harmony throughout Caroline No. The Beach Boys appear to sing above their normal range and
this further contributes to the smooth and melancholic musical quality. All the singers in The
Beach Boys sing in harmony to a beat in

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Conflict Intervention...
There are several intervention strategies and approaches for the conflict intervention, such as
problem solving, compromise, expansion of resources, organization redesign and activism.
However, problem solving, institutional redesign, expansion of resources, and activism are very
important intervention tools for this conflict. Problem solving strategy focuses on the attainment of
the common interests of the parties, however, it has significant weakness or limitations as well.
Organization redesign refers to restructuring the existing system, which allows to mix
representation in the government and power. Next, expansion of resources shall help the
community for better education and economic opportunity. Lastly, peaceful activism can build
strong community with knowledge, and education. It also forces the authorities to change their

more complex in recent days, because their goals are reformed. The Abu Sayyaf want to create a
caliphate, which is a very complicated idea in twenty first century. So, our intervention strategy
should be determined by the recent scenario. In addition, all international community should stand

Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy Essay
Liberalism, Civic Reformism and Democracy
This paper argues that liberalism provides democracy with the experience of civic reformism.
Without it, democracy loses any tie argumentative or practical to a coherent design of public
policy endeavoring to provide the resources for the realization of democratic citizenship. The case
for liberalism rests on an argumentative reconstruction of the function it performs before the rise of
a world economic order and, more specifically, in the creation of the welfare state after the Second
World War. Accordingly, liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory
political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship
rights. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For its later history, liberalism owes as much to its antecedents (situated at the rise of parliamentary
assemblies and of the rule of law in the Middle Ages), as to its linkages with the republican tradition
of communal self government (from the seventeenth century onwards), and with the socialist
tradition in support for an egalitarian model of society (as from the eighteenth century). Indeed, it is
this double tie what determines that the political history of liberalism belongs to the history of
modern democracy: a representative democracy but, thereby, pluralist. The tie also explains that the
economic history of liberalism cannot be separated from the birth of the welfare state.
In both respects liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political
project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights.
This is but a formulation of the modern idea of citizenship, conceived of as a universalizable
contract of rights. At the same time, liberalism embraces a socio economic emancipatory project
that endeavors to provide the conditions, within the institutional frame of modern societies, for the
accomplishment of citizenship rights. Let us comment on this double characterization.
Liberal Citizenship: A Universalizable Contract of Rights

a political community (namely, a

Aesop s Fables as Children s Literature
Why Aesop s fables are now generally considered children s literature?
Outline:
The topic that I have selected for my research paper is Aesop s Fables and the reason for
selecting this topic is my interest in the field of literature and importance of storytelling in the life
of young school going children in order to develop their intellectual and emotional power. In this

Flossing Research Paper
Everything You Need To Know About Flossing
Taking care of your teeth goes beyond just brushing twice a day. It is equally important that you
floss every day as well. Brushing will help get the plaque off your teeth that is on the front and
back surfaces, and it will help remove the food particles and bacteria that are hiding between your
teeth. Flossing also plays a role in reducing your risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and controls bad
breath.
Unfortunately, many people do not know how they should be flossing their teeth. Picking the right
type of flossing and using the correct movements can make a huge difference in your oral health.
Here is everything you need to know about flossing.
Picking the Right Type of Floss
Flossing starts with selecting a type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Start by unraveling enough floss so that it is approximately an arms length long. Wrap most of
the floss around one middle finger, and leave a couple inches free to wrap around the middle
finger on the opposite hand. You ll be discarding the floss as you go by unraveling it around the
finger on one hand and wrapping it around the finger on the opposite hand. Every tooth should get
a new section of dental floss so that it is free of any bacteria.
Glide your dental floss between the teeth by using your index finger and thumb. You ll want to use
a gentle motion that goes up and down rather than back and forth.
You ll need to curve your dental floss against the tooth so that it slides into the space where the
tooth meets the gums. Keep the floss close to the teeth, and try to avoid irritating the papilla, which
is the part of the gums that sticks up between your teeth.
With these tips in mind, you ll be sure to have teeth and gums that are in better health for your next
dental cleaning. For more advice about flossing, ask a dentist during your next cleaning at Treman

company keeps the cost under control. On the other hand, the Gross Profit Margin for David
Jones has decreased from 39.73% in 2010 to 39.11% in 2011. This decrease is not very huge, but
the overall figure reflects not a very profitable condition. These margins are well below the
profitability of Premier Investments. This means that David Jones has a relatively poor cost

company is exposed to many risks caused by movements in foreign currency exchange rates,
interest rate and market prices. The foreign exchange risk comes from transactions and
translations of foreign operations in Swiss Francs (CHF). The interest rate risk faces the
borrowings at fixed and variable rates. The market price risk comes from commodity price and
equity price. The former risk arises from world commodity market for the supplies of coffee, cocoa
beans, sugar and others. The later risk arises from the fluctuations of the prices of investments held.
(Nestle annual reports, 2015). Thus, financial derivatives instruments are used by this multinational
corporation in order to hedge these risks.
Moreover, because of the huge worldwide extension of the corporation, which operates in 194
countries, the use of foreign currency derivatives to minimize the earnings volatility would be the
subject of later analysis. The report will focus on how NestlГ© uses futures and option contracts to
hedge its exposure to currency risk, centering our attention in NestlГ© Home Currency, the Swiss
Franc in relation to the US Dollar (USD/CHF). It will be examined an example of its hedging
strategy and the information provided by a contact in the firm.

Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children
Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays
have heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its
beneficial effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their
disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that
music therapycan meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral
problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition
cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a
process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health.
The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general
settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child
and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because
of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should
be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives.
There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices
since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a
profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations

Analytical Essay Bicycle Safety On Essex
Bicycle safety on Essex The following analytical essay will analyze and interpret issues that are
interesting, puzzling and controversial in the short story Bicycle Safety on Essex . The essay
will mainly deal with issues such as racism and racial prejudice, which are either interesting,
puzzling and controversial. First, there s the interesting issue with Cleve. According to Noah,
the humiliating event in Essex was not the first time Cleve was questioned by the authorities.
This can be seen in the following quote If you fucking assholes arrest him again one more time
just because he s black and I m not, I m going to kill myself! . This shows that Noah, at such a
young age, knows that Cleve is being detained and questioned by officers based only on his skin
color, which in fact can be called racial prejudice. Although it is unfortunate for Cleve and Noah, it
is quite uncommon for a dreaded black man to walk around with a small white boy and especially

The most puzzling part of the story is how the narrator ended up sitting in the back of a civilian
police car and his description of the two police officers. This can be seen in the following quote
And I d spent all night in this bogus taxi with about 850 pounds of white beef . In this quotation,
the narrator tells us that he has spent the whole night in a bogus taxi with two police officers
which he describes as white beef . This bursts his objective view throughout the story, therefore
making him a subjective narrator. A point which has not been mentioned yet is how the police had
allowed a writer to ride with undercover officers, which is very puzzling since the writer can

approach recommends to the active user the items that other users with similar tastes liked in the

Introduction
Intellectual property rights and competition law both seem to intervene at different junctures;
however they work for attainment of one common goal that is consumer welfare. The reasons for
this contravention in most cases is that the reward given to creators and innovators is the right to

Ureteroscopy
Cystoscopy and ureteroscopy are diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, usually performed by
urologists, or doctors who specialize in diseases of the urinary tract. These procedures use
endoscopes to look into the organs of interest, and they are aimed at direct visualization of the
interior of the ureters and the bladder in order to diagnose (and sometimes treat) urinary complaints.
Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a procedure that uses a long thin optical instrument (also known as cystoscope),
with an eyepiece and a small lighted lens at either end, connected by a tube. The tube may be
either rigid or flexible, depending on whether it will be used for diagnosis or for treatment. The
cystoscope transmits clear and detailed images of the inner mucous membrane that lines the urinary
bladder and the urethra. A cystoscopy is performed to find the cause of conditions such as:

Were Watching God Figurative Language
In William Shakespeare s The Tempest, A storm is responsible for creating an epoch in Prospero s
life. Likewise, the hurricane in Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God also
represents a watershed in Janie s life. Both Shakespeare and Hurston use the storm to symbolize
creation and regeneration among their protagonists. Hurston, however, uses figurative language to
enhance features of the storm, creating a mood for the reader. Hurston uses imagery and
personifications to establish varying moods throughout Their Eyes Were Watching God
.
For example, Hurston s use of imagery helps to establish the varying moods within the novel.
While beginning to tell her story to Phoeby, Janie describes the growth of the pear tree that she
grows fond of throughout her childhood: From barren brown stems to glistening leaf buds; from
the leaf buds to snowy virginity of bloom (Hurston 10). Janie tells how the pear tree from a

womanhood. The imagery of the pear tree presents a serene mood the follow along the plot of the
novel for some time. Word choice such as glistening and snowy creates a peaceful situation in
which suits Janie s childhood. Later in her adult life, Janie becomes attracted to Tea Cake to the

The Vital Importance of Homework
Every prosperous person has attained their goals via this privileged activity which has been
practised for generations. Homework is beneficial for children of all ages; to learn new strategies
and theories. All schools give homework to enrich their students learning and to prepare them for
their soon to be successful futures. Vehemently, homeworkis an essential requirement for children,
adolescents or even adults! Generally speaking, according to research (Cooper, Robinson Patall,
2006), studies are showing us that academic achievement is improved in children who partake in
some after school work at home. Homework familiarises new concepts and encourages students to
strive for their highest. It gives them a sense of responsibility as they need to organise their time
to fit all activities. In that way homework would only be a minor, every day routine. If students
want to have a privileged lifestyle, they need to do their homework. Having helpful homework
here, is the key to victory, inviting us through a door to various opportunities in life! The journey of
a thousand miles begins with one step.
Essentially, homework is a beneficial component of life. Without it, there wouldn t be any jobs
around as we wouldn t be intelligent enough to pass the exams and courses needed to fill
positions. Some people may be innately gifted, but the aces who are hungry to succeed, will excel
higher. Homework is the fruit of education; we learn the methods at school and we revise and

Abstract:
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is major public health problem. SCD continues to be one of the leading
causes of mortality worldwide, with an annual incidence estimated at 250000 to 300000 in the
United States and with the vast majority occurring in the setting of coronary disease and other
cardiac events. I performed the systematic review of journal article ranging from 2006 to 2016 with
appropriate information related to sudden cardiac death and related consequences, the context of
problem and related solution. SCD is so immediate that detailed study should be performed to
understand and to review in better depth with screening evaluation and permanent treatment.
Objective is to summarize published sudden cardiac death information literature and article with
valid information and to understand extend of issue with available options for solution.
Conclusion: The sudden cardiac death is tragic event to happen. Many research had been published
and new content comes nearly every year, but existing research related to it is weak. Future research
efforts should be directed for developing new policy changes and social aspect of this situation. The

books that contributed to his personality. Paradise Lost, Sorrows of Young Werther, Plutarch s

To begin with, Paradise Lost is by John Milton. The original sin committed by Adam and Eveis the

Palacio is a exceptional alternative for Paradise Lost. This book illustrates a story of August, a
ten year old boy born with a facial deformity that made it difficult to make friends. He s been
homeschooled for most of his life, and one day his parents decide that it was time for him to go
to a real school and they send him to Beecher prep. If the creature were to read this book he

embraces his differences which allows him to make friends. The creature would also learn that it s

How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake
3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly
destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact
because of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population
density in this city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake
was the plate tectonicsat that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean
continental convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate.
As they converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until
they release energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust,
eventually reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic
setting, the geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the
earthquake. The land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil
composition. While these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to
the region during an earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to
reverberate vibrations, worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in
the city to sway back and forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup

Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication
1.INTRODUCTION
Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more
than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which
may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how
is this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in
this paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a
hearer interprets a speaker s utterances.
In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They
are as follows:
1.1.The Code Model
This model (also known as the Shannon Weaver model (1949)) presents... Show more content on

their shared knowledge). There is therefore a certain degree of reliance on the hearer making the
right inferences from what is not explicitly communicated. This may be diagrammatised as follows:
Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context
mediated information intention/thought understood.
Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times
requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper
publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press
enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question.
The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted
at but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed
the Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner.
The Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance.
With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal.
The same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our
view from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances

The potential changes that BP should have been scanning for include technological and
legislative changes, changes in the global economy, and changes in the physical environment. BP
should have been aware, for example of any changes or trends in technology. Successful
monitoring is then determined by a company s ability to accurately interpret the data collected

important for them to have an understanding of exactly what the technology is and what it is

healthcare system for a few decades, setting higher standards and delegating more roles for nursing
professionals. Nurses, especially those with a bachelor s degree, should always maintain continued

My Identity Essay
My Identity What is my identity? I think my identity at the moment is Mexican, 15 years old, a
student, and more. I am still trying to figure out more things of my identity at the moment. For
right now these are some of my identity and things that mean a lot to me. As I said before I am
mexican. Most of my family was born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. They were born in a ranch
called La Quebrada de Los Sandovales . Last year I got to go there for the first time. It looks
really old but the river is so beautiful. I loved how the people there knew each other. Since I was
born my mom made me believe in the virgen de guadalupe. She is the mother of Jesus Christ.
Mostly every year On December 12 my family and me go to church to celebrate her. They bring
music to sing to her. It is always beautiful. On this day we also celebrate my birthday. I am so
grateful to be born on this day. As I was saying in the second paragraph, since my parents are
mexican they taught me spanish. Being bilingual for me is so important because I get to help
others. At school there are times are a lot of times I make new friends just by translating things
for them. I am glad I am latina because I know that it will help me in the future some way. There
are some things I like doing with others which are movies and sports. I have always liked
watching movies. I don t really mind what kind of movie it is. I like fantasy movies the best or
non fiction because it is mostly of the time it is filled with

The Dangers Of Cell Phones
The Dangers of Cell Phones Are cell phone dangerous? Are they a distraction? The answer to
both those questions is Yes! Cell phones have advanced greatly since the turn of the century.
With the advancement of cellular technology cell phones have become a staple in our every day
lives. Have they become a dangerous distraction? Our kids are spending more time with the cell
phones than their families and friends. Cell phones have been a major factor in 52% of car
accidents from 2009 to 2011. With the advancement of cellular technology cell phones have
become miniaturized transportable computers. With one handheld device you can now send:
Emails, text messages, phone calls and leave voice mails. It used to take multiple devices to
accomplish these actions. To check any missed calls you would have had to wait until the end
of the day when you got home to see any missed calls or voicemails. Now you don t even have to
miss a call, your cell phone can literally go with you almost anywhere. Cell phones are a major
distraction, however they do have some good qualities. They keep people and their worked
linked at all times. Cell phones also keep parents and their children connected. There s no more
wondering where your children are. With a simple call to their phone you no know at the touch of
a button. With all the connectivity cell phones provide us in our day to day lives has it become too
important in a family? Sure cell phones keep parents and kids connected, but cell phones

Medieval And Millennial
Medieval to Millennial A Pilgrimage of Meaning
In the Medieval times, many Christians went on pilgrimages to venerate sacred objects or places.
They traveled around Europe visiting churches and taking treasures with them to set at the sites
they visited. During this time, there was an influential emperor who touch much of Europe with a
renewing hand. Emperor Charlemagne built an empire embodied with the mission to unify the
people, attempting to create one European religion and convert pagan tribes to Christianity. Europe
needed a revival in his eyes and so he set out to promote education and literacy. Charlemagne s
empire created religious unity throughout Europe through architecture, music, and literature which
brought meaning to his life; today people bring similar meaning to their lives thought the arts they
encounter.
On December 25th in the year 800, Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne the emperor of the Franks,
leading to his Carolingian empire influence and creating the Holy Roman Empire. Charlemagne s
motivation for his empire was Renovatio Romani Imperii, which translates into Renewal of the
Roman Empire. This was a two pronged approach through religion in both culture and intellect. In
an increasingly pagan world, Charlemagne created meaning by saving Christianity through
establishing unity of the church throughout Europe. It is thought that by his work renewing the
faith, enough people came to know of it and the culture that it stood the test of time.

By: Jenny Wagner

Did the easement relieve Arkansas Power and Lights from liability for flooding? Yes, Arkansas
Power and Light should not be held liable for damage to property cased by flooding where an
easement existed.
In 1923 1947 Arkansas Power and Light (AP L) constructed several dams on two Arkansas lakes,
Hamilton and Catherine. AP L obtained floodeasements on property adjoining the lakes. AP L

Jeanne Duprau s The People Of Sparks
Before reading The People of Sparks, I was very skeptical on how the book would compare to
City of Ember which was the first book in the series. But after reading the book I was very
pleased with how Jeanne Duprau developed the main characters by giving them realistic struggles
like how Doon was struggling to control his anger issues, and how Lina s curiosity and rash
decision making still tended to cause trouble. Which leads to the next reason why enjoyed the
book which was because it stays true to its original characters, and puts them in an entirely
different situation. In the first book Lina and Doon who are the main protagonists in the book had
to find their way out of Ember because of its depleting resources, and had to use their

  • 2. Horse Power Farm Video Analysis The three videos I choose to watch were Horse Power Farm, Lakeside Orchards, and Ayotte Farm. Horse Power Farm is located in Penobscot, Maine and owned by Paul Birdsall. The distinguishing features are on the farm s focus for producing vegetables and timber, and relying on their horses instead of machinery. Paul s farmis specifically a mixed practice as they do have a tractor, but draft horses are the key component. Another unique aspect of this farm is that as Paul said, training apprentices is the most important thing they do. Without the apprentices help, they are limited in the amount of work they can get done. Lakeside Orchards is located in Kennebec County and is owned by Steve and Marilyn Meyerhans. They also own The Apple Farm located in Fairfield, Maine. The distinguishing features for these two farms are the apples and apple products produced. They also have two farm stands, one of which is opened year round. Unlike the other two videos I watched, this couple had no prior experience before buying Lakeside Orchards. The last... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This farm only produces potatoes, yielding roughly 350 400 weights per acre. Out of all the videos, Scott seemed to use the most machinery to pick and harvest his produce. He explained they first started out only using harvesters, but in order to become more efficient they began using special roller machines. These are designed to sift the potatoes and transfer them to another row so the harvester is able to pick up multiple rows at once. In addition, Ayotte Farm was unique in that they re involved in a contract system. Because of this they mainly grow a certain type of potato for the french fry industry. The benefit of this is a steady income without having to worry about market fluctuations. The downfall is cost can vary and fluctuate in a short period of time when a contract is already set in place, therefore the farm has to take the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Theology Of Leadership For Christ s Church Theology is an attempt to explain God and his relationship to our world and humanity, while leadership is the human endeavor or capacity to lead or guide others through an operation, activity, task, or even through life. To build a theology of leadership is to build on the interrelation between these two. In order to develop a true theology of leadership, thoughtful reflection on Biblical scripture and the leadership of those called by God must be examined. What I assert is that of all the models that we have examined that Servant Leadership is a theology of leadership for Christ centered pastoral leadership within Christ s church. Northouse defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Leadership as it works through those in pastoral leadership in the church then is a process whereby an individual who has been influenced by the works of Christ as they have journeyed the path of faith and come to embrace and embody Christ and the gospel message within their own life then in acceptance of Christ s call upon their life goes out to influence, invite, and empower others to embrace and embody the gospel in their own lives. Zoning and other methods of land use control have evolved with the primary objectives of promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of residents while minimizing the negative impacts of one activity or use upon others. Zoningis effectively a legislative process whereby a community prioritizes values associated with land, development, and associated activities. The importance of these platforms is indubitable as it is elaborately discussed in more detail: In order for the meaning of brands to become fully concrete, the mediated meaning derived from advertising and promotion must be negotiated with the lived experience of purchase and usage, and particularly for brands with social symbolic positioning strategies these meanings must be validated through discursive elaboration in a social context (Elliott and Wattanasuwan, 1998). • 7. National Debt Is Not Always A Bad Thing When I first thought of national debt I thought about only the cons and disadvantages of having it. I never gave thought as to what the advantages of having it may be. National debt is the amount of money the federal government owes to lenders outside of itself. When the Treasury borrows funds, it issues Treasury bonds; these are IOUs of the federal government. In other words, the national debt is a stock of IOUs created by annual deficitflows. (Schiller 261) With the help of research and my economics class, I have learned that having national debt is not always a bad thing. For example, the financial crisis of 2008 2009 and the effects it had on the economy and people was horrible. However, I learned that if it weren t for the increase in government borrowing by bailing out banks and financial markets, the banks and financial markets could have froze and that would have thrown us into a Great Depression type run on banks. If the government uses its debt the right way, then it will allow the government to do things that it couldn t really do before. I believe investing that debt instead of spending it would be the wiser choice. The government sometimes spends money so that consumers will have money but they just end up spending it. This is just a way for the government to stimulate spending at that moment. That s just a short term benefit. Therefore, by investing its debt in things such as medical and technological research and education will create a long term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This federal law applies to all organizations that receive federal funds and must function in an equal manner. Gender equity has been a major problem in our society for quite some time, and now it has migrated to athletics. According to the Office of Civil Rights some keys issues which recipients have Title IX obligations are: recruitment, admissions, financial assistance; athletics; sex based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single sex education; and employment (OCR, 2015). Fair treatment for female athletes has been a huge matter in athletics. The Office of Civil Rights issued guidelines offering equal opportunity rights to all athletes including the temporary disability of pregnant female athletes. Prior to OCR putting this policy to effect there were many reasons universities neglect pregnant female athletes. According to Pitt Law there are a few reasons: first, too many individuals in society believe sport is pervasively masculine organization that is constructed around men. Secondly, women s ability to reproduce is used against them to exclude them from sports. Furthermore, the beliefs of gender and race have long combined to stigmatize young women who have children outside of marriage and in precarious financial circumstances (Brake, 2008). There are many characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a... Without it, democracy loses any tie argumentative or practical to a coherent design of public policy endeavoring to provide the resources for the realization of democratic citizenship. The case for liberalism rests on an argumentative reconstruction of the function it performs before the rise of a world economic order and, more specifically, in the creation of the welfare state after the Second World War. Accordingly, liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For its later history, liberalism owes as much to its antecedents (situated at the rise of parliamentary assemblies and of the rule of law in the Middle Ages), as to its linkages with the republican tradition of communal self government (from the seventeenth century onwards), and with the socialist tradition in support for an egalitarian model of society (as from the eighteenth century). Indeed, it is this double tie what determines that the political history of liberalism belongs to the history of modern democracy: a representative democracy but, thereby, pluralist. The tie also explains that the economic history of liberalism cannot be separated from the birth of the welfare state. In both respects liberalism defines a reformist political program: it is an emancipatory political project by virtue of its struggle for an egalitarian and universalist extension of citizenship rights. This is but a formulation of the modern idea of citizenship, conceived of as a universalizable contract of rights. At the same time, liberalism embraces a socio economic emancipatory project that endeavors to provide the conditions, within the institutional frame of modern societies, for the accomplishment of citizenship rights. Let us comment on this double characterization. • 38. How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake 3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact because of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population density in this city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake was the plate tectonicsat that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean continental convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate. As they converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until they release energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust, eventually reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic setting, the geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the earthquake. The land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil composition. While these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to the region during an earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to reverberate vibrations, worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in the city to sway back and forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup causes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Semiotic Or Semilogical Theory Of Communication 1.INTRODUCTION Communication serves a variety of purposes and takes on a variety of forms; and is so much more than merely a transmission of information. Often communication includes ambiguous forms (which may be either deliberate or spontaneous). How is one to interpret a speaker s utterances and how is this interpretation done? The Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson (1986) to be explored in this paper proposes an interpretation of utterances based on a theory in pragmatics about how a hearer interprets a speaker s utterances. In the past, two models have been put forward to explain how communication is processed. They are as follows: 1.1.The Code Model This model (also known as the Shannon Weaver model (1949)) presents... This may be diagrammatised as follows: Speaker s thought/intention + context mediated information encoded transmitted decoded + context mediated information intention/thought understood. Inference may be understood from the following example: The message Tom has bought the Times requires contextual knowledge for it to be understood i.e. that the Times is the name of a newspaper publication. Also, it is to be inferred from the statement that rather than buying the entire press enterprise, Tom has merely bought one issue, and probably the issue of the day in question. The Inferential model includes Grice s model of implicature (i.e. what is meant, suggested or hinted at but not overtly stated). Therefore, in order for communication to be successful, Grice proposed the Cooperative Principle which includes the maxims of quantity, quality relevance and manner. The Relevance theory develops the maxim of relevance. With regards to metaphorical language, there is no sharp dividing line between it and the literal. The same cognitive processes are involved in understanding all utterances. This distinguishes our view from the classical (Aristotelian) view of figurative language where figurative utterances ...
