Hugh McCauley, Riordan Manufacturing COO, wishes to merge the current assortment of tools in
procedure into a solitary assimilated application. The company desires to take advantage of the
further sophisticated state of the art information systems technology that by this time exists in the
human resources department. In this text, the data collecting methods and the intended project
approaches that are to be exercised will be clarified. The business conditions for the improvement
of a Human Resource system to preserve the goal of this request will also be outlined. Key aspects

Riordan wants to incorporate its current instruments into a solitary combined function. Given that
the organization by this time has a present system that only needs to be assimilated, the procedure
work would be insignificant and the projected cost would lessen. For the duration of the scope
assessment the need of this assimilation will be debated as well as the volume of monetary
reserves Riordan is prepared to contribute to the development. The effect, whether constructive or
destructive, on the corporation will be addressed as an involvement of the feasibility analysis.
Following this stage, commendations and suppositions can be assumed and selected to define the
overall result of the development.
After collecting and acquiring the data for the service request for Riordan Manufacturing, I have
concluded that the integration of the present system will be valuable to the corporation s human
resource department. The idea for this development will be constructed in regards to the Work
Breakdown Structure (WBS). A work breakdown structure (WBS), in project managing and systems
engineering, is a deliverable accommodated breakdown of a development into diminutive modules.
A work breakdown structure component may be a creation, information, advantage, or any mixture
thereof. A WBS furthermore delivers the essential outline for thorough cost approximating and
influence along with offering direction for agenda expansion and control.

Essay on Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Sigmund Freud, creator of the Freudian psychoanalysis, once said about hypocrisy, He does not
believe that does not live according to his belief. This is essentially Freud s loose definition of
hypocrisy, a term that the Oxford English Dictionary defines as the practice of claiming to have
moral standards or beliefs to which one s own behavior does not conform. In Nathaniel Hawthornes
novel The Scarlet Letter, the characters hypocrisy represents the pervasiveness of hypocrisy in all
people. Hypocrisy is evident in all of The Scarlet Letter s main characters: Hester, Dimmesdale,
Chillingworth, the town of Boston, and Pearl.
One of the main characters in the novel, Hester, shows the pervasiveness of hypocrisy with her own

Hawthorne uses Hester s hypocrisy to show us that hypocrisy can be hidden even in those who it
is unexpected in, and in doing so he suggests that hypocrisy may be more pervasive than we think
and can see. .
In addition to Hester, Hawthorne uses Dimmesdale, another of his main characters in to
represent an aspect of hypocrisy. Specifically, Dimmesdale represents the difficulty of shaking
off hypocrisy, and brings the conclusion that hypocrisy lingers because it is so difficult to fix.
Dimmesdale s hypocrisy arises from his position as a minister even after his adulterous act.
Dimmesdale even admits to feeling morally unclean and question what his polluted soul [can do]
towards their purification, (131). In spite of his feelings, Dimmesdale cannot force himself to
confess his sins and come clean to the town. The fact that Dimmesdale cannot act against what
he believes to be instinctively wrong, sinful, and potentially harmful to others shows us that
hypocrisy difficult to change. Dimmesdale s inability to face the consequences and change his
hypocritical stance shows us that hypocrisy can be a nearly permanent fixture. It also raises a
key question: how can hypocrisy not be pervasive if we can t shake it off easily? The simple
answer is that hypocrisy must be pervasive because it lingers and can t be removed. This implies
anyone who has been hypocritical, which is about everyone, is still

The Marxist Theory Is The Political And Economic Theories...
The Marxist theory is the political and economic theories originated by German theorists: Karl
Marx and Friedrich Engels. Marx was born in Germany in 1818 and studied philosophy and law.
He was among many the most important authors of sociology and was best known as the father of
Marxism (McIntyre, 21). Along with Friedrich Engels, he wrote and published The Communist
Manifesto. This document helped shape the revolutions that reconstructed much of the world with
over the course of the next century. According to Marx the most important thing about society is
the way a society is organized to produce goods and services, also known as mode of production.
The relationships among people and people s relationships to the forces of production are how
decisions were made about what to do with the outcomes. The Marxist theory recognizes several
typical modes of production and characteristics of different periods in our past history (McIntyre,
pg28) These modes of production includes: Primitive communismwhich had no categorized social
class structures or capital growth, Asiatic mode which is allegedly the original form of society
where small groups removes social additions through violence directed at settled or unsettled band
groups within a domain. Ancient mode is when property is the control of the individual, the forces
of production connected with this mode is the widespread use of animals in agriculture, and

Themes Of Urban Legends
Nowadays, the development of technology affects the way we search for the information. For
instance, stories that have been told only within families or small groups of people can now be
exposed to the internet, where these stories are shared amongst hundreds of people. Urban legend,
by definition, is a humorous or horrific story that people usually believe, even when there is no
proof of where it started from, or of the trustworthiness of that story. Urban legends have appealed to
many ranges of audiences since this genre tends to attract many individuals. For instance, college
students have taken an interest towards these legends, whether they like the strange stories or the
actual messages behind it. Urban legends have taught college students the themes, which are based
on the reflection of their conflicts or problems that they have dealt with. The two common themes
of urban legends that represent the problem that college students are dealing with are the conflicts
between college students and their professors and the paranormal and horror events that occur in
their life.
There are many urban legends that have solutions to deal with the problems with their professors.
The first urban legend story, Do you know who I am? , was set in a large lecture classroom, where
the instructor could not remember all of his students. In order to turn in their exams, they had to
show their ID cards. There was a student who forgot to bring his ID on the exam day, and he was

Major Causes Of Holiday Weaning
The time from Thanksgiving in late November to New Year s Day in early January is one of the
busiest times of the year. Preparing for family visits, shopping for gifts for little ones and constant
parties and get togethers are fun traditions that can add stress and further time constraints on an
already busy mom. This time of year can be particularly challenging for breastfeedingmoms who
may experience inadvertent holiday weaning.

Holiday weaning occurs when your milk production decreases or your little one weans off of
breastfeeding altogether as a result of the busyness and stress of the holidays. Holiday weaning
differs from intentional weaning in that it occurs inadvertently or accidentally, surprising many

Wal Mart And Sainsbury Target Mass Social Target Audience
The following report takes into account the selection of two integral companies with global
operations, Wal Mart and Sainsbury. These two companies are critically assessed in link to their
individual brand positioning strategies. Some strategies overlap each other whereas some are
different, so both are discussed in context. The brandpositioning strategy has taken into account the
individual companies marketingobjectives, sales pitches, expansive strategies and service
competition that are provided nationally and internationally. Wal Mart has its extensive operations,
hence has a more generic service oriented approach where products are sold and retailed in an
intelligent global manner. In this context, its international website layout, online presence and
promotional campaigns are discussed that hopes to target mass social target audience. On the other
hand, Sainsbury deals in the same business of retail and online shopping, but since its operations
are more suited and favorable in the United Kingdom, that is why its operations are limited
compared to Wal Mart. Sainsbury deals with niche market segment, which is limited by some
geographic and demographic segmentation. Sainsbury s promotional and marketing campaigns are
also less generic, and keep intact its present social and cultural context. Both companies are
suggested for service development, market penetration and market developments. Since both
companies are rates exceptionally agile, they still compete on the

Taking a Look at Maritime Security
Maritime security is an extremely broad area of concern. It covers everything terrorism, the physical
security of ports and ships right through to the security of energy resources into the future.
Introduction:
The Indian Ocean Region (IOR) is a significant and strategic locality within the 21st century. It is
important to a number of countries, including many key players of the region. The large waters of
the IOR make it a strategic thoroughfare for international sea lanes as part of global maritime trade
and sea commerce. This will create various maritime boundaries, disputes and choke points, which
is an important security challenge of the IOR. The IOR is a vast energy and resource filled
environment, which makes it a security challenge for competing states. Another security concern
within the IOR is that of asymmetrical threats. These threats will target the energy/resource sector
as well as the various vessels that cross the IOR. Crime, including that of piracy, human trafficking
and smuggling is an imperative issue that regularly occurs within the IOR. These are the principal
maritime security challenges in the IOR and provide all states, which operate in the region, a
difficult task in countering these issues.
Maritime Boundaries/ Disputes:
The large and vast nature of the IOR makes it a given medium in which conflict occurs.
Approximately 42% of the world s conflicts, can be linked to countries within the IOR. Some of
these conflicts include the Middle East

Comparing Buddhism, Jainism, And Hinduism
In Asia, many religious outlooks are what set aside the life of individuals. The three main forms
of religion that is practiced are Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism, all of which began in India and
made their way around the world. Though these three religious teachings have similarities in terms
of Karma, religious laws, and places of worship, there are differences that are held, much like any
other forms of religion.
In Hinduism, the concept of the almighty God (Brahman, Vishnu, and Shiva), who created the
Universe and have the proper powers and possession to destroy it. God is in everything that Hindus
seek. Buddhism and Jainism have different concepts, as there is no understanding of a God.
Jainism embodies Godliness, rather, and focuses on the practice of perfecting the knowledge of
peace and an infinite amount of bliss and power. Buddhists have continuously rejected an almighty
God or gods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hinduism allocates their followers to devote their attention and love to the various gods and
goddesses of Hinduism, ultimately following the dharma. Unlike Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism
focus solely on the teachings of their founder, rather than gods and goddesses. Jainism follows the
teachings of Mahavira, where Karma is played as a major role on life on earth and the outcome of
incarnations into the heavenly and hellish realms. The teachings of Buddhism are for Buddha,
where an eightfold path is practiced in order to escape to mental cravings that are unhealthy to our
life. The goal for Buddhists is to attain the enlightenment that the soul craves and to be released
from the cycle of rebirth and death, attaining Nirvana. This idea of oneness in Buddhism stemmed
from Gautama where enlightenment was not gained through torture, only through self discipline

Jules Ferry Imperialism
Jules Ferry was a French politician who served two times as a Prime Minister during the Third
Republic. Third Republic was the name of the French government for nearly 69 years from 1871
to 1940. Jules Ferry was known as the passionate imperialist. During his time as the Prime
Minister, occupied Tunisia, some parts of Indochina and he also started exploring certain parts of
Africa. In his speech, Ferry is urging the French Parliament to expand the borders in order to
increase the economic and political as well as the military power of Franceas other countries began
to export more goods than France. Therefore if they had more colonies they set up more so that
they could send more of their goods out of the country. Jules Ferry believed that France should
push its politics onto less developed countries with the goal of increasing revenue and becoming
economically powerful. What made it urgent for France to have colonies are the recent events in
the world trade in order to broaden their own trade lines. In the text Ferry states,... Show more

rising up around us, some by military or naval improvements, others by the prodigious
development of a constantly growing population; in a Europe, or rather in a universe thus

Disadvantages:
Inhibit biomedical analysis by limiting access to materials and strategies that are key to developing
new treatments. Patents may also impede analysis if they produce a cumbersome or costly tollbooth
through that researchers should pass.
Provide no incentive for biomedical analysis if there s no profitable market for ultimate treatments,
as is the case with some rare diseases or diseases affecting individuals within the developing world.
Drive up the price of health care if patent holders charge excessive costs for proprietary diagnostic
tests and treatments. (Josephine Johnston and Angela Wasunna,2007)
USES:
The use of biological materials is generally safer for human patients by reducing the chance of
infection and rejection. Biological materials can be found in many industries including education,
research, medicine, dentistry, engineering, and paper and textile development. Examples of
biological material application are given below.

Summary of The Lottery
The short story that this paper will look at is The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. It was first
published in The New Yorker on 26 June 1948. It is one of the most famous short stories in the
history of United States literature history. This paper is a summary of the story from my point of
view. The Lottery is a work of fiction that demonstrates rebellion and conformity while insinuating
that a lottery is part of a ritualistic ceremony. The author was born in 1919. She struggled with

The lottery as well as other community activities, the teen club, square dances, and the

civic activities such as those that took place during the lottery. In terms of character, Mr.
Summers was a jovial man who ran a coal business in the village. However, his personal life
made people feel pity for him. This is because his wife was a scold, and they did not have
children. During the lottery, Mr. Summers arrived at the square while carrying a wooden black
box. He placed the black box on a three legged stool that Mr. Graves, the postmaster, had carried
to the square. The villagers felt pity for Mr. Summers to the extent that it had turned into fear.
This is because when he entered the square, they had kept their distance, which had created a
space between them and the stool. In addition, when Mr. Summers requested help from the
villagers in handling the box, they hesitated. It is like nobody wanted to get close to where he
was standing. Only two men, Baxter and his father Mr. Martin, responded to his request. They
moved forward and held the box steady on the three legged stool as Mr. Summers organized the
papers that were in the box. Moreover, the story develops a tone of a panic nature as time

One day as he was mourning alone in the forest, Geronimo heard voices telling him that he could

Americans made it clear they intended to restrict the attacking and territorial use by the different

Great Was Ever Achieved Without Synonym, By Ralph Waldo...
Everyone has a different way to go along with their ways to get their job or work done. Whether
it is practicing for a concert, taking care of the house, or even people doing their profession,
everyone should take pride in what they do. If you do not like or love what you are doing no
success can come to yourself. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm told by Ralph
Waldo Emersonan American poet. This quote says that you have to show that you care or that you
want to succeed by building up your self esteem. Talking yourself up and making it a pleasure on
whatever you have to do in any situation will create hope and can make the outcome better. The
ability to talk yourself up and build courage all starts with a good attitude. Using your mind and
attitude for positivity can change the way you feel and believe for everything. Even if something

Confidence is key in any culture or lifestyle. If your confidence is able to influence others and
your enthusiasm supports you, then that is a great work environment to be around that can lead
to success. Being a leader or in charge of a company supporting the workers is a huge roll to
success. If you are a coach or a manger, just being positive to your players or workers can
influence them to work harder or to try to make the best things happen. This belief in having
confidence, pride, and enthusiasm can not only impact yourself, but also the people around you

Advertisements Analysis Essay
I collected advertisements from different magazine and interest sources. I used three magazines to
review and collect advertisements from. The magazines are called Watch, Discover Beauty Within,
and Seventeen. Watch magazine is a lifestyle magazine entertainment, fashion and beauty
magazine. This magazine gives audience a look into the world of celebrities and style through the
celebrity s perspective. The magazinecontains interviews and photo shoots of celebrities. Discover
Beauty Within is a beauty magazine launched by Walgreens that provides tips, tricks and coupons

fashion, beauty, dating, and health tips. The magazines varied from teens, adult magazine and
beauty. I used six internet sources for additional advertisements online. I used four different blogs,
Victoria Secret, and CBS network. The selection of magazines and internet sources targeted women
of different ages and topics. A significant amount of the sources for women seem to have the same
subject matter, such as beauty, fashion, relationship advice, and celebrities.
In the first ad we have an ad for a Metro bus where a women is trying to engage another one in a

Confederate Army Trends
One of the major trends that developed during the American Civil war was the number of
casualties on both the Confederate and Union side. Although many of the battles were unique, at
times the Confederate army would strike a devastating blow such as the first major battle at
Mannass or Bull Run where the Confederate Army defeated the Union army who had superior
numbers (Hewitt Lawson, 2017). One thing the Union army had that gave them an advantage
over the Confederate army was the enlistment of former slaves to join the Union army. After one
battle, in particular, General Grant stated I saw an open field . . . so covered with dead that it
would have been possible to walk across the clearing, in any direction, stepping only on dead bodies

Another trend evident in the Civil war was the reason for fighting the war. Both the Confederate
and Union army soldiers had their own unique reasons for fighting the war. The Confederate
soldiers had a strong martial will to fight and defend the ways of the South (Farmer, 2005). This
attitude was strong in the beginning and as the war endured, many had become less enthusiastic
about the war effort but remained loyal to the cause and war (Faust, 1990). Some of the
Confederate soldiers would actually return home prompted by the women back home who had
become disillusioned with the war effort (Spiegel, 1863) and stopped proving support to the
war effort. The Confederacy did not lose the war due to lack of effort, it was merely due to the
superior strength of the Union army (Farmer, 2005). The Union Soldiers, on the other hand, were
fighting to preserve the union. It was not to abolish slavery and in fact became disgruntled after
President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and the soldiers had to be reprimanded
by Union Officers (Landers, 1861 1863). Union Leaders were afraid the strategy of freeing the
slaves would hurt the Union soldier s morale, as they were not in favor of fighting a war to help
free the African Americans

d.Mediating.
Power point 11
If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed
to be. Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship
between the two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class
(SES) and frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the
relation between SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent
for younger women. Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a
relation between SES and BSE. When you remove the effect of education, the relation between SES
and BSE disappears.
Power point 12
While researchers will never state that one variable caused another variable to occur, as there are
so many variables to consider in social science research.
However, we do use the term causal relationship or cause and effect relationship , where the cause
has to precede the effect and the relationship cannot be explained by any other factors that are being
considered.
Power point 13
Here s an overview of the different types of variables and their functions.

The Biological Approach
The main assumption of the biological approach is behaviour and experiences can be explained by
biological changes in the body. This approach focusses on the investigation of the brain, nervous
system and other biological factors such as hormones; whereas the main assumption of the
cognitive approach is that information received from our senses is processed by the brainand that
this processing influences how we behave or at least justifies how we behave the way we do.
Cognitive processes are examples of hypothetical constructs researchers cannot directly observe
processes such as thinking but we can infer what a person is thinking based on how they act
(behavioural patterns). Some key researchers in the biological approach are Maguire et. Al (2000)
Navigation related structural changes in the hippocampi of taxi drivers, and Sperry (1968)
Hemisphere disconnection and unity in consciousness. Some key researchers in the cognitive
approach are Loftus and Palmer (1974) eyewitness testimony and Baron Cohen (1997) Autism.
There are a few similarities between the two approaches, for example the biological approach likes
to use variants of laboratory experiments from quasi (natural) to experiments in highly artificial
settings. This is done so that the researchers can take advantage of the naturally occurring variables
or can change them easily to suit the experiment and control any extraneous or confounding
variables, and can therefore easily establish cause and effect.

The Concept of Comparative Advantage
The comparative advantage The concept of the comparative advantage was first coined in 1817 by
economist David Ricardo, in his On the principles of political economy and taxation. The
underlying idea of the comparative advantage theory is that the countries possess different
resources and capabilities and they can produce some specific items in a more efficient manner than
other countries can produce the same items, or more efficiently that the same country can produce
other items. In such a setting then, the countries would best decide to produce the items for which
they possess a comparative advantage, and then exchange them within the international market
place, for items for the production of which they do not possess a comparative advantage (Pullen,
2006). Today, the application of the comparative advantage is revealed mostly at the level of the
leading economic powers in the world, who seek to create advantages in terms of exports, and as
such maximize their gains (Acharya, 2008). The concept and application of the comparative
advantage theory has raised vast interest throughout the past century, and this interest is revealed at
both theoretical and well as practical level. Furthermore, as the modern day society becomes more
and more engaged in globalization and market liberalization, the application of the comparative
advantage theory is gaining more momentum. Within the economic literature for instance, various
researchers have approached the issue of the

detention together, we have Andrew Clark, the athlete, Brian Johnson, the brain, John Bender,
the criminal, Claire Standish, the princess, Allison Reynolds, the basket case, and Richard
Vernon, the power abusing principal. The story starts out with the five students being dropped
off by their parents. They all enter the library to begin their dreaded detention and this is where
we meet the antagonist of the story, Richard Vernon. All five students immediately judge each
other and from their first impressions none of them are friendly with each other, but they do
have a common enemy in the principal. While they do not like each other, they protect the
others from getting in trouble since they all hate Vernon. They eventually roam the halls to go to
Bender s locker to get his marijuana and as they are heading back the see Vernon walking back
to the library and they get into an argument on which way to go to get back before Vernon. They
choose the wrong way and Bender decides to take one for the team and distract Vernon. Vernon
catches him and locks him in his office but Bender escapes through the vents. They all smoke
Bender s marijuana and connect on a deeper level with each other. They all realize that each one of
them has their own problems that they are dealing with. Claire ends up kissing and possibly dating
Bender and Allision and Andrew end up possibly dating as well. While Brian is left with no one.
They all left detention that Saturday different than when they entered. That Saturday changed their
lives forever.

However, The Uppsala Internationalisation Model (Johanson Vahlne, 1977, 1990), argues that

Dear Thane of Cawdor, I forsake you and your cruel intentions as a traitor to the crown. Your

heart s aspiration is, betraying your own people is an unacceptable method to achieve success. How
could you slaughter the very man who dines in your castle and promotes you? Wisdom often tends

Stop Smoking It Was Making Him Sicker

the smoke rose upon our heads. You don t worry about me babygirl! You just worry about

Rome, the city of love, is a dreamed destination for many. Yet beneath this picturesque spot lies an
adamant root from the past that dominated a certain era in the history of the world. Dating from
some 500 B.C., Rome stamped its territory as an example for many. As a matter of fact, the Roman

Today we will attempt to accentuate those differences politically and economically speaking and
we will prolong our thinking on the emergence of the Plebians revolt. Back in the days, the Roman

Allegories in of Mice and Men
In the novel, Of mice and Men , John Steinbeck uses allegory to represent different themes and
messages. An allegory is a story, poem or a picture which can be interpreted to reveal a hidden
meaning. While reading Steinbeck s book I noticed different metaphors such as the usage of
animals and Curley s wife. Throughout the whole book the reader can notice many animals
mentioned such as rabbits, mice, the puppy and the old dog. Curley s wife is also a sort of
symbol. She represents the way in which the women were treated and looked upon in those days.
The animals and Curley s wife all symbolize different things in life in the 1930 s USA. They all
symbolize the hopes and the dreams that the characters share which motivates and drives them...

Saying that the rabbits should be furry, fluffy and colorful makes their life even more padded
and warm, which protects them from the tough world at that time. The animals are a great way
to show and symbolize different things. To find the allegorical meaning you only have to look
in between the lines to find a different meaning to the words and sayings. This can be seen in
the case of Curley s wife. By looking more closely at the story, one can see that Curley s wife is
also a metaphor which symbolizes the way which other people looked upon women in the
society of the 1930 s. Curley s wife represents a whole marginalized group in the American
society at that time. In the novel, characters are never fully developed, but instead appear as
outlines or symbols of real people. Candy, Crooks, and Curley s wife represent the discriminated
groups of age, race, and sex. Curley s wife has been given an overall picture in the eyes of

The Increase Of A High Unemployment Rate
However, Arendt does use work and labor simultaneously in the fact that they both can be
exchanged for currency, which is a necessity in life. Arendt explains that both the need for work
and labor in our society has decreased rapidly. She states, Whatever we do, we are supposed to
do for the sake of making a living ; such is the verdict of society, and the number of people,
especially in the professions who might challenge it, has decreased rapidly (127). Tying this into
the detriment of a high unemployment rate, we currently have a 5.5% rate of unemployment. To
make this more realistic, nearly 1 out of every 35 people is unemployed. Our highest rate of
unemployment was nearly double it is today at 10% in 2009 (BLS). Showing that a good
portion of 16 million people are only consuming rather than doing both consuming and
producing. This large percentage of citizens not contributing to the production for society takes
away from the progression of our society succeeding, which in turn keeps our society from
advancing. The significance of labor in our society is that we are all laborers, laboring in order to
earn currency to get life s necessities. Labor is becoming insignificant though because we readily
have necessities given to us, and the jobs that require people to do them are decreasing due to
technology. According to Social Security Disability Insurance our government offers basic aid such

Pros And Cons Of Raising The Driving Age
For most kids turning sixteen is what they look forward to for years. After countless hours of driver
s education, and driving around with their guardian, they can finely gain some freedom. Receiving
a license gives one independence, responsibility, and more opportunities. Therefore; raising the
driving age is unfair and ineffective.
Raising the legal driving age lowers job opportunity. There are hundreds of job opportunities for
teenagers ( Jobs for Teens ). However, most of them require a form of transportation to get there.
Many kids live in a home in which both parents work; this limits transportation. If one is
fortunate enough to find a ride to work there still can be a problem. Many jobs that hire teens
require their employees to drive. For example, restaurants who deliver. (Example) Many people
believe driving is an adult responsibility. However, we live in a world where teens are forced to

The Sociological Perspective
In chapter one of our book it is talking about the sociological perspective. Sociology is defined as
the systematic study of human society. It is explained that sociological perspective is seeing the
common in the specific. Sociologists look for common patterns in the behavior of certain
people. I found it very interesting in chapter one where it states that higher class white men are
more likely to commit suicide than any other population and that between genders; men are more
likely to commit suicide. This is interesting because I would have thought the roles were
reversed. I would have thought that women are more likely to commit suicide because women
are more emotional than men. Later on in the chapter it goes on to talk about how to apply
sociological perspective. It can be applied in three different ways. It can be applied in one s life,
one s work, and in studying sociology. When we apply sociological perspective to our lives we are
more likely to become active and more aware. After applying sociological perspective we begin to
think more critically in our everyday lives. There are three major theoretical approaches. The
structural functional approach is the basic layout for building theory that sees society as a complex
system whose parts work simultaneously to stimulate harmony and strength. The social conflict
approach sees society as a place of inequality that produces struggle and change. Lastly is the
symbolic interaction approach. This approach sees that

his proposal of a triple helical structure for DNA (Watson 54). Following Pauling, Watson and
Crick also worked on the triple helical model, but according to the X ray data, the theory for the
triple helical structure, where phosphates form the helical core with the bases pointing outwards,
was failed to show the correct structure of DNA (Watson 54).
It was Franklin s diffraction photograph Photo 51 that finally showed the helical structure of
DNA to Watson and Crick. The photo that had been crystallized under moist conditions shows a
fuzzy X in the middle of the molecule with a helical structure. She also found out that DNA
exists in two different forms, A and B. A is drier crystal in that contain 20 percent water, whereas
B is less ordered and fully hydrated (NOVA). However, the mistake that Franklin made was that
she thought X rays were the only way to find the structure of DNA (Watson 69). She thought
making models of DNA and playing with them were not that efficient and were a waste of time
(Watson 69). In addition, she also thought the method of Watson and Crick using light beam to take
a picture of DNA and calculating the lines was ineffective because she thought calculations take too
long (NOVA). Also, in Photo 51, Franklin did not notice about the helical structure and how the
nitrogenous bases are paired (Elkin 44). If she thought of different methods

Book Review of The Face of Battle by John Keegan Essay
THE FACE OF BATTLE
John Keegan, the author of The Face of Battle is allowing the reader to view different
perspective of history, from the eyes of the soldier. Although by his own account, Keegan
acknowledges, I have never been in a battle. And I grow increasingly convinced that I have very
little idea of what a battle can be like. Keegan scorns historians for pointing the finger of failure
after an evolution occurs and not examining the soldier s point of view while the battle is
transpiring.
Keegan chooses the three well documented campaigns of Agincourt in 1415, Waterloo in 1815, and
Somme in 1916 to answer the question of his thesis: To find out how men who are faced with the
threat of single missile and multiple missile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Henry V sought to regain some French territory lost in the Hundred Year War and set out on
a 120 mile journey to Maisoncelles where the English came head to head, or 300 yards, with the
French. The English bowmen enticed the French to action and when the French responded they
were met at the English line which consisted of three groups and archers on the right and left.
Keegan goes on to tell of how the different groups of warriors affected each other: the archers
versus the cavalry and infantry, the cavalry versus infantry, and infantry versus infantry. The
worse effect must have been on the French soldiers that after the order was given to kill all
survivors unless they were rich, noblemen, or worth a ransom. The third chapter, titled Waterloo,
June 18th, 1815 , skips ahead four hundred years to Waterloo in 1815 after Napoleon returned
from his exile in Elba to face the Prussians and the British soldiers. Keegan gives an extremely
thorough look at the battle evolution and breaks the timeline down into five phases: diversion,
weakening the center front with artillery, further weakening the center front with cavalry, infantry
attack, Prussia reserve arrival and Napoleon s defeat. Keegan goes on to describe how no soldier
on either side would have been able to view the entire battlefield and how the events of combat for
eight straight hours, after already going through a skirmish with the

Public Education in Texas
Public Education In Texas
High quality education is a must in U.S. since it means that today s youth will be prepared with
the knowledge needed to tackle our nations issues. When looking from state to state, you will
notice how various states differ in how well they are able to educate students. Maryland was
ranked number one in the nation by having a high grade point average amongst students and an
equally high graduation rate. Texas on the other hand had the worst grade point average and
graduation rate. The reason for this is the amount of funding that goes into public schools.
Maryland puts a lot of funding into their public schools which helps raise grade point averages.
Meanwhile Texas puts little funding into public schools and... Show more content on

That view still stands today as many senators and representatives hold hold mainly conservative
views.
The conservative view of education extends to the parents of the students as well. Salaries for
public school teachers and administrators come primarily from state taxes which has been an
issue for them for years. School faculty has been fighting the state for years to have an increase
in pay but that would mean an increase in taxes as well. So when the parents of the students
weigh in they often side with the legislature since a pay raise for teachers would mean a raise in
taxes for them. This is sadly the same case for funding school equipment such as computers, books,
playground equipment, ect.. Since parents are unwilling to have their taxes raised to pay for all of
that, our schools will always fall behind, leaving teachers unable to properly teach our students.
Another challenge is how often Texas changes its statewide testing regiments. So far it has changed
four times over the past century, TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
) was one of the
regiments lasting from 1999 to 2011. The system currently in use and that will end by next year is
the STARR exam (State of Texas Academic Readiness). The testing regiments change constantly
because they do not accurately gauge a students performance. Also the fact that the main goal of the
curriculum is religious and ideological control further hinders the academic performance of
students. For example,

Burmese Python In The Everglades
Originally native to the south tropics of eastern Asia, Burmese python is one of many large
snakes in the world with a length between 19 and 23 feet and weights around 200 pounds. In the
Everglades, the largest python found was 16 feet long and weighed 152 pounds. With a light
colored pale belly and dark brown blotches, Burmese python grow larger and heavier than any snake
in Floridacompares to the indigo snake can grow to 8.5 feet. (McCleery, 2015)
Burmese python kills their prayer by seizes them with its teeth and wrapping around the animal by
constriction. An experiment was done by releasing marsh rabbits into the Everglades and tracks
them. In fall and winter, the marsh rabbits rapidly reproduce but in the spring and summer the

When capture snakes are euthanized by USNPS personnel, and the nest is destroyed. Other ways
of removing the Burmese pythons are by isolating the chemical cues (pheromones) that pythons
use during mating season. Once isolated, pheromones can lure pythons into traps. Trained dogs
are being looked at for their effectiveness at sniffing out snakes. A release of an exotic animal in
Florida is a first degree misdemeanor with a year in prison and a $1,000 fine. Regulation went up
in 2008 to limit the sale of reptiles of concern like the Burmese pythons, African rock pythons,
reticulated pythons, green anacondas, etc. microchip implant and identification for reptiles two
inches in diameter or greater. Conduct research before purchasing an exotic pet. If someone no
longer cares for an exotic pet, call the Fire Rescue Department. (McCleery, 2015) The Burmese
python poses challenges to trap. Trapping, a traditional method of snake capture, can include an
inescapable funnel device and a drift fence that direct the snake into the trap. It is important that the
drift fence is inserted into the so the snakes don t bypass it. The problem with this is with the hard
limestone foundation making construction of the drift fences difficult. Finally, the immense area
that the Burmese python occupied will make it hard to utility an extensive trapping. It would be
more practical to trap them on

Evacuation In Montecito Summary
In the article Rescue crews scramble to find missing in California mudslides as 10K evacuated in
Montecito the authors, Matt Gutman and Bill Hutchinson, explain the events that happened on
Thursday when Montecito experienced torrential rain and mudslides. They continue by describing
the effects that it has had on those living there as well as local businesses that have been affected.
Between all of the writings they have posted pictures allowing those who read it the opportunity to
see the extent of the damage themselves and see the rescue teams hard at work. The rescue teams,
as they mentioned, have been using rescue dogs to help them sniff out any human remains that
could be buried underneath the mud and those who have survived within buildings or trapped
between rocks. The message was clear and gave all of the information necessary to fully understand
the situation along with how long those affected will be evacuated for and how long it might take
for electricity, water, and sanitation to come back.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the authors wrote, Montecito was placed under a new evacuation order at 6 p.m.
local time Thursday. Almost the entire community about 10,000 people is now under mandatory
evacuation orders, which could last one to two weeks, according to the Santa Barbara County fire
chief. (Matt Gutman Bill Hutchinson) In that quote they give valuable information that gives
people a better idea of what to expect in the coming weeks as well as how big the problem truly
is without straight up saying that it is a big problem. Coming from that it is easy to see that they
wanted to give as much information as possible to those who want it or need

Identity And Morals Throughout Adolescence And Young...
Just like how one must discover and establish their identity and morals throughout adolescence and
young adulthood, one must find their voice through writing as well. It is a difficult feat to find the
proper sum of humor, seriousness, casualness, pretentiousness, or satire. This is something that
everyone struggles with as they routinely take pento paper. Of course, this is all extremely
subjective, but until recently my writingvoice sucked. As I climbed the academic ladder, clumsily
bouncing from teacher to teacher, I heard many varying opinions about my writing. It is not light
hearted enough , this is too light hearted, Emily , this needs more commas , use less commas and
just shorten the sentences , this is awkward , this is eloquent , and try harder next time. I
questioned every word that I used, contemplated every sentence structure that I wrote, and second
guessed every idea that I had. I eventually became a writing robot that would methodically piece
together papers that were well received, but I was never proud of. I promised myself that as I
entered college, I would change my writing practices, no longer consider only my teacher as the
audience, and use my voice. The following that ensues is my initial attempt, successful or not, at
following through with my promise.
For the first project of this class, I faced a familiar foe: rhetorical analysis. This was a juncture in
my writing path, where I could continue down the path of mechanical meticulous

  • 3. Essay on Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Sigmund Freud, creator of the Freudian psychoanalysis, once said about hypocrisy, He does not believe that does not live according to his belief. This is essentially Freud s loose definition of hypocrisy, a term that the Oxford English Dictionary defines as the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one s own behavior does not conform. In Nathaniel Hawthornes novel The Scarlet Letter, the characters hypocrisy represents the pervasiveness of hypocrisy in all people. Hawthorne uses Hester s hypocrisy to show us that hypocrisy can be hidden even in those who it is unexpected in, and in doing so he suggests that hypocrisy may be more pervasive than we think and can see. . In addition to Hester, Hawthorne uses Dimmesdale, another of his main characters in to represent an aspect of hypocrisy. Specifically, Dimmesdale represents the difficulty of shaking off hypocrisy, and brings the conclusion that hypocrisy lingers because it is so difficult to fix. Dimmesdale s hypocrisy arises from his position as a minister even after his adulterous act. Dimmesdale even admits to feeling morally unclean and question what his polluted soul [can do] towards their purification, (131). In spite of his feelings, Dimmesdale cannot force himself to confess his sins and come clean to the town. The fact that Dimmesdale cannot act against what he believes to be instinctively wrong, sinful, and potentially harmful to others shows us that hypocrisy difficult to change. Dimmesdale s inability to face the consequences and change his hypocritical stance shows us that hypocrisy can be a nearly permanent fixture. It also raises a key question: how can hypocrisy not be pervasive if we can t shake it off easily? The simple answer is that hypocrisy must be pervasive because it lingers and can t be removed. This implies anyone who has been hypocritical, which is about everyone, is still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Confederate Army Trends One of the major trends that developed during the American Civil war was the number of casualties on both the Confederate and Union side. Although many of the battles were unique, at times the Confederate army would strike a devastating blow such as the first major battle at Mannass or Bull Run where the Confederate Army defeated the Union army who had superior numbers (Hewitt Lawson, 2017). One thing the Union army had that gave them an advantage over the Confederate army was the enlistment of former slaves to join the Union army. After one battle, in particular, General Grant stated I saw an open field . . . so covered with dead that it would have been possible to walk across the clearing, in any direction, stepping only on dead bodies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another trend evident in the Civil war was the reason for fighting the war. Both the Confederate and Union army soldiers had their own unique reasons for fighting the war. The Confederate soldiers had a strong martial will to fight and defend the ways of the South (Farmer, 2005). This attitude was strong in the beginning and as the war endured, many had become less enthusiastic about the war effort but remained loyal to the cause and war (Faust, 1990). Some of the Confederate soldiers would actually return home prompted by the women back home who had become disillusioned with the war effort (Spiegel, 1863) and stopped proving support to the war effort. The Confederacy did not lose the war due to lack of effort, it was merely due to the superior strength of the Union army (Farmer, 2005). The Union Soldiers, on the other hand, were fighting to preserve the union. It was not to abolish slavery and in fact became disgruntled after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and the soldiers had to be reprimanded by Union Officers (Landers, 1861 1863). Union Leaders were afraid the strategy of freeing the slaves would hurt the Union soldier s morale, as they were not in favor of fighting a war to help free the African Americans ... Power point 11 If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship between the two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class (SES) and frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the relation between SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent for younger women. Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a relation between SES and BSE. When you remove the effect of education, the relation between SES and BSE disappears. • 29. The Biological Approach The main assumption of the biological approach is behaviour and experiences can be explained by biological changes in the body. This approach focusses on the investigation of the brain, nervous system and other biological factors such as hormones; whereas the main assumption of the cognitive approach is that information received from our senses is processed by the brainand that this processing influences how we behave or at least justifies how we behave the way we do. Cognitive processes are examples of hypothetical constructs researchers cannot directly observe processes such as thinking but we can infer what a person is thinking based on how they act (behavioural patterns). Some key researchers in the biological approach are Maguire et. Al (2000) Navigation related structural changes in the hippocampi of taxi drivers, and Sperry (1968) Hemisphere disconnection and unity in consciousness. Some key researchers in the cognitive approach are Loftus and Palmer (1974) eyewitness testimony and Baron Cohen (1997) Autism. There are a few similarities between the two approaches, for example the biological approach likes to use variants of laboratory experiments from quasi (natural) to experiments in highly artificial settings. This is done so that the researchers can take advantage of the naturally occurring variables or can change them easily to suit the experiment and control any extraneous or confounding variables, and can therefore easily establish cause and effect. ... • 30. The Concept of Comparative Advantage The comparative advantage The concept of the comparative advantage was first coined in 1817 by economist David Ricardo, in his On the principles of political economy and taxation. The underlying idea of the comparative advantage theory is that the countries possess different resources and capabilities and they can produce some specific items in a more efficient manner than other countries can produce the same items, or more efficiently that the same country can produce other items. In such a setting then, the countries would best decide to produce the items for which they possess a comparative advantage, and then exchange them within the international market place, for items for the production of which they do not possess a comparative advantage (Pullen, 2006). Today, the application of the comparative advantage is revealed mostly at the level of the leading economic powers in the world, who seek to create advantages in terms of exports, and as such maximize their gains (Acharya, 2008). The concept and application of the comparative advantage theory has raised vast interest throughout the past century, and this interest is revealed at both theoretical and well as practical level. Furthermore, as the modern day society becomes more and more engaged in globalization and market liberalization, the application of the comparative advantage theory is gaining more momentum. Within the economic literature for instance, various researchers have approached the issue of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While reading Steinbeck s book I noticed different metaphors such as the usage of animals and Curley s wife. Throughout the whole book the reader can notice many animals mentioned such as rabbits, mice, the puppy and the old dog. Curley s wife is also a sort of symbol. Arendt explains that both the need for work and labor in our society has decreased rapidly. She states, Whatever we do, we are supposed to do for the sake of making a living ; such is the verdict of society, and the number of people, especially in the professions who might challenge it, has decreased rapidly (127). Tying this into the detriment of a high unemployment rate, we currently have a 5.5% rate of unemployment. To make this more realistic, nearly 1 out of every 35 people is unemployed. Our highest rate of unemployment was nearly double it is today at 10% in 2009 (BLS). It is explained that sociological perspective is seeing the common in the specific. Sociologists look for common patterns in the behavior of certain people. I found it very interesting in chapter one where it states that higher class white men are more likely to commit suicide than any other population and that between genders; men are more likely to commit suicide. This is interesting because I would have thought the roles were reversed. I would have thought that women are more likely to commit suicide because women are more emotional than men. Later on in the chapter it goes on to talk about how to apply sociological perspective. It can be applied in three different ways. It can be applied in one s life, one s work, and in studying sociology. When we apply sociological perspective to our lives we are more likely to become active and more aware. After applying sociological perspective we begin to think more critically in our everyday lives. There are three major theoretical approaches. The structural functional approach is the basic layout for building theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work simultaneously to stimulate harmony and strength. The social conflict approach sees society as a place of inequality that produces struggle and change. Lastly is the symbolic interaction approach. This approach sees that ... School faculty has been fighting the state for years to have an increase in pay but that would mean an increase in taxes as well. So when the parents of the students weigh in they often side with the legislature since a pay raise for teachers would mean a raise in taxes for them. This is sadly the same case for funding school equipment such as computers, books, playground equipment, ect.. Since parents are unwilling to have their taxes raised to pay for all of that, our schools will always fall behind, leaving teachers unable to properly teach our students. Another challenge is how often Texas changes its statewide testing regiments. So far it has changed four times over the past century, TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills ) was one of the regiments lasting from 1999 to 2011. The system currently in use and that will end by next year is the STARR exam (State of Texas Academic Readiness). The testing regiments change constantly because they do not accurately gauge a students performance. Also the fact that the main goal of the curriculum is religious and ideological control further hinders the academic performance of students. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Identity And Morals Throughout Adolescence And Young... Just like how one must discover and establish their identity and morals throughout adolescence and young adulthood, one must find their voice through writing as well. It is a difficult feat to find the proper sum of humor, seriousness, casualness, pretentiousness, or satire. This is something that everyone struggles with as they routinely take pento paper. Of course, this is all extremely subjective, but until recently my writingvoice sucked. As I climbed the academic ladder, clumsily bouncing from teacher to teacher, I heard many varying opinions about my writing. It is not light hearted enough , this is too light hearted, Emily , this needs more commas , use less commas and just shorten the sentences , this is awkward , this is eloquent , and try harder next time. I questioned every word that I used, contemplated every sentence structure that I wrote, and second guessed every idea that I had. I eventually became a writing robot that would methodically piece together papers that were well received, but I was never proud of. I promised myself that as I entered college, I would change my writing practices, no longer consider only my teacher as the audience, and use my voice. The following that ensues is my initial attempt, successful or not, at following through with my promise. For the first project of this class, I faced a familiar foe: rhetorical analysis. This was a juncture in my writing path, where I could continue down the path of mechanical meticulous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
