The Future Of Zoos During The World Of Activists Attacks
The Future of Zoos In the Midst of Activists Attacks
In an increasingly threatening environmental crisis, zoos are participating in the conservation of
species. The biodiversity of the animal and plant worlds is being deeply affected, on the one hand by
the disruption of ecosystems caused mainly by climate change and deforestation, and on the other
hand, by the globalization of trade, travel, transport, and tourism. These two factors are increasingly
reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). Even in the face of the
environmental serial destruction, animal protectionist and wildlife conservationist activists criticize
zoo s efforts to protect the animals they house. The ways zoos progresses in the future to ... Show

The Doctor Chris Parsons, former Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, explains animal
welfare groups accept the use of animals for some human interests like clothing, food, recreational
need, or scientific experiments, as long as the animal is free of stress and pain . The influential groups,
the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recognize on
their website some zoos are beneficial to animals supporting conservation programs, participating in
the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and promoting education about the importance
of wildlife. However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the Humane Society
recommends zoos to be organized around a core mission that educates the public about the needs of
the animals and the threats they face . Also, zoos should provide animals with humane care and
adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs. Finally, ASPCA indicates, zoos should
participate in tightly controlled breeding programs and their display should stress the themes of
endangered species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity . Unfortunately, many zoos are
not falling under this description, but they can act on several factors in the intent to work towards the
animal welfare activists demands.

Measuring the Melting Points of Compounds and Mixtures Essay
TECH0701: Measuring the Melting Points of Compounds and Mixtures
Introduction
This exercise dealt with the melting points of pure mandelic acid and benzoic acid. The eutectic
temperature and composition of mandelic and benzoic acid mixtures were determined. And finally, an
unknown was identified by its mixtures and melting point.
The melting point of a compound is used by organic chemists not only to identify the compound, but
also to establish its purity. To determine the melting point two temperatures were noted. The first was
the point at which the first drop of liquid formed among the crystals; the second was the point at
which the whole mass of crystals turned to a clear liquid. And the melting point was recorded from

An unknown compound was obtained and the ID number was recorded. A capillary tube was loaded
with the unknown powder and inserted into the melting apparatus. The temperatures at which the
crystals first started to liquefy and when the entire sample became liquid were recorded. The melting
point was then compared with previous known mixture samples to identify the unknown compound.
Results

Adam And Eve In Homer s Odyssey
Adam and Eve, these names are synonymous with how human nature conquers logical thinking. Eve
was enticed by the apple, she became selfish and was ingenuous of the consequences. Today, many are
overtook by temptation, apathetic of the possible consequences. This morality confliction even
appears in literature, such as the Odyssey. In the Odyssey by Homer, when hunger for pride interferes
with heroism, the characters susceptibility to temptation heightens. Odysseus portrays cockiness
which ignites his witty actions if he is faced with obstacles. These actions are seen throughout the
story, especially when he has an audience. Odysseus has the need to sustain a perfect image, one
where he deludes others into believing he is godly. His hubris ... Show more content on

Its as if his will to keep his dignity overrules his actions, that he cannot accept being looked down
upon. His need to control everything at all times shows how manipulative he can be. This
manipulation is showed in another section of the Odyssey, where Odysseus causes his crew to believe
that there is a way out without death. Odysseus states, Should know what the goddess Circe foretold.
Better we should all know, live or die. We may still beat death and get out of this alive. ( Book12XII,
162 164) Circe had foreshadowed many losses if they chose to continue this journey, yet Odysseus
made the decision to continue on. ( some may argue idk how to start this ) This could be seen as a
heroic action displaying bravery and courage yet this action only magnifies Odysseus other side. This
other side instead portrays him as a person who easily falls into their desires and temptation. This
transpires because of his hunger for kleos which falls under the category of pride. Kleos overtakes him
causing him to do irrational actions and being selfish, kleos interfered in this situation by making him
more willing to sacrifice his men, knowing there is no way out. To head

Graphic Designs Of Graphic Design Disciplines Essay
Graphic Design Disciplines
It did not require very much thought to narrow down the list of Graphic Design Disciplines. Of the
twelve types of disciplines discussed, I can see myself working in the fields of Brand and Identity
Design, Motion Graphics, and Advertising.
Brand and Identity Design is what most people think of when hearing the words graphic design .
Admittedly, I assumed that the creation of logos, the look of products, websites, were the only aspects
of this field. So, those were the things I created in my leisurely time, or the things I was required to
produce in high school classes and competitions. I now know that those aspects only comprise a small
part of graphic design, and provides a miniscule, vague description of what Brand Designers achieve.
A Brand Designer is responsible for the overall representation of a company, and must market a
company s particular brand through the use of several mediums. Those mediums include logos, web
sites, apps, and so on. A consistence must exist in everything produced for a certain company because
the point/ of a brand is to label a company to they are simple to identify, and companies cannot be
easily labelled with ever changing brands.
If I choose the Brand Design disciplines, I am considering working towards a job as a Senior Graphic
Designer. I would work closely with the marketing department of a company to help create brand
designs. It would be my responsibility to overlook the company s brand and ensure that works

Caso Walnut Venture

3. The apparent density of pellet specimens sintered at 850oC and 1050oC was measured by using
Ultrapycnometer 1000 which was varified by Archimedes buoyancy Principle and was found to be 4.8
g.cm 3 and 5.02 g.cm 3 respectively. These densities were 91.38% and 93.23% of the theoretical
values (% relative densities). Percentage porosity [59] of sintered pellet specimens was found to be
8.2% and 6.8% respectively. It is observed Cu0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 sintered ceramic composed of uniformly
sized grains and is 93% relative density. The high sintered density can be attributed due to the small
degree of agglomeration and fine nature of powder. The properties of sintered ceramic materials
depend upon the sintered density and porosity of ceramic. It is well known that during sintering of
homogeneous materials, the porosity decreases and the microstructures of the material develop,
depending upon the morphology, agglomeration and sintering conditions. The Cu0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4
specimen sintered at 850oC has lower %relative density as compared to specimen sintered at 1050oC.

One of the most puzzling questions in anthropology is why...
One of the most puzzling questions in anthropology is why marriage and incest taboos are nearly
universal institutions in human societies. In order to answers these questions their many theories will
be explained and compared.
There are many theories for the universal institution of marriage. It solves a few problems between
men and women, but these problems cannot be considered the prime motivation for marriage as an
institution. Some of these problems include sharing the products of gendered labor, caring for
extremely dependent offspring, and minimizing sexual competition.
If sharing the products of labor was the cause of the development of marriage, why did humans not

Sex and Gender are two very different concepts in anthropology. Sex refers to the biological
differences inherent in males and females. Gender is a socially and culturally defined construction and
may be different between different societies. In many different cultures gender differences do not
always align with sexual differences. Many cultures in fact see male and female as opposing ends of a
continuum; there may be many intermediate genders between male and female.
These social constructions may be very difficult to separate from the biological realities of maleness
and femaleness. For example a cross cultural study done by anthropologists recorded that boys within
many societies tend to be more aggressive than the females within that same culture. Females in turn
tend to be more nurturing in those cultures. Since these differences are universal, are they a product of
biological differences? Or do all societies need men and women for different roles and so they
socialize their children appropriately? A study on Australian aborigines has shown a high level of
female aggression, leading many researchers to speculate that behavioral differences are cultural in
origin. The Navajo of Southwestern United States

Driver Responsibility Program Analysis
According to Oxford Dictionaries, surcharge mean: An additional charge or payment. For the state of
Texas and New Jersey, this law has been put in place for their drivers who commit a traffic ticket
offence. The Driver Responsibility Program, created in 2003, requires drivers to pay annual
surcharges on top of the fines and legal fees attached to traffic violations, such as driving without
insurance or while intoxicated. These surcharges keep people from registering their car, getting their
license and being legal on the road. This law have more illegal drivers on the Texas roads. Drivers
aren t automatically levied surcharges for minor tickets for speeding or car accidents, but a point
system is used to punish repeat offenders. If a driver accrues six points in a three year period, a
surcharge is assessed. Failure to pay results in a suspended driver s license. Even for those who know
about the payment options, though, the application process can be burdensome, critics say. It requires
applicants to get documents notarized and to provide financial documentation, including an income
tax form.
Bill Lewis testified on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Driving , an organization that supported the
program when it was first enacted but now wants lawmakers to reform the program to better assist the
millions of drivers caught up in the surcharges. Staudt said she believes the program is
unconstitutional because it penalizes drivers twice for the same violation. Out of the 3.2 billion dollars
billed to Texas drivers only 1.2 billion dollars has been collected. The reason for this law is, Texans
has come up with a reliable revenue for trauma hospitals, Yáñez Correa (TCJC) said. They need
money to pay for care, but not at the back of Texans who are barely making it. ... Show more content

In Market based Solutions To Climate Change by Richard L. Sandor says The data shows that the
climate was getting warmer and more erratic (689). People have known about the connection between
carbon pollution in the atmosphere and the climate rising. But, it was not until recent years that
climate change has been a concern. Global warming is a tragedy waiting to happen. Climate change is
real and has costs of not only animals in the wild, but human lives as well. In Market based Solutions
To Climate Change by Richard L. Sandor says In the poles, pieces of ice the size of Singapore are
falling off of glaciers (689). Like a terrorist attack it will come suddenly, bringing fire, floods, and
other natural disasters. Rising sea levels will cause a horde of people from impoverished communities
and migrate into areas on higher ground. Therefore, climate change can be reduced by government
involvement, alternative energy and control over greenhouse gases.
Alternative energy could play a significant role in contributing to a solution on climate change. In
How to Break the Climate Change Deadlock by Naomi Oreskes the Article states pollution from coal
causes disease, damages buildings and contributes to climate change (2). Having an alternative energy
source would greatly impact the environment, it would eliminate the one of the main causes for
pollution and in return the earth would revise itself helping the beings that

The Beliefs Of Society In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, the author Chinua Achebe details the life of the protagonist,
Okonkwo, and through him the rituals and customs of the Ibo people. The practices of the Ibo people
are highly religious and taken very seriously throughout the whole clan. The religious guidance of a
select few spiritual figures dictates the lives of the entire population. Traditions have deep religious
connotations and have been passed down from the tribal ancestors who started the customs. These
ways prompt many problems for Okonkwo and others surrounding him. Chapter 13 displays the
disapproval some clansmen have with how situations are handled in the society and is ultimately
setting up the scene for why some Ibo decide to convert to Christianity. The Ibo have an arbitrary set
of rules, and this unchanging set of conventions is the source of flaws in their society. Society should
change to encompass the evolving thought styles of its members. It s the right and duty of the people
to engender change in a system that they believe is flawed. In Chapter 13, Obierika ponders the way
society reacts to Okonkwo s mishap, Why should a man suffer so grievously for an offense he had
committed inadvertently? Although he thought for a long time he found no answer (Achebe 106).
Many Ibo don t view what Okonkwo did as a truly evil and punishable act. If they did, they would
have stayed away from him and let him suffer the punishment. However, friends went to help
Okonkwo prepare to leave

American Influence On Cuban Culture
The American perspective of Cuba is one that varies from person to person, generation to generation.
Commonly, Millennials view Cuba as a country of opportunity and intrigue while the Baby Boomers
approach Cuba with an air of caution. This disconnect exists because the generations before ours
experienced the alienation that came into play in the media when the Eisenhower administration
placed the embargo on exports in 1960. Considering this disconnect is one of the many issues that
have to be taken into consideration when discussing how Americans view Cuba, and looking into how
our relationship with their country will develop in the future. It is highly likely that this view is also
affected by individuals opinions of socialist governments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In what ways would you say the culture of Cuba informs the way we might recommend any type of
industry considering investing in Cuba s infrastructure?
Cuban culture is unique and seems untainted by corporate America, and this entices the American
people. Being able to walk through cities without recognizing large corporate branding such as the
Starbucks mermaid and McDonald s golden arches on every building is rare. Cuba s pure culture has
been presented to the world in the form of poetry, sculptures, music, and other various forms of artistic
representations. Oftentimes, this cultural exploration through art presents itself as a form of revolt.
One historical example of Cuban revolt through music was Los Frikis. In the 80 s, Cuban misfits and
punk rockers expressed their version of a revolution through music and self imposed death sentences.
Los Frikis was a group that, in many extreme cases, knowingly injected themselves with blood
containing the AIDS/HIV virus. In their eyes, this was the only way to set themselves free from the
control of their government. Another example of Cuban culture and art expressed as a form of a
revolution is the poetry of Jose Marti. His poetry was thought provoking and pushed readers to debate
opinionated (and often political) topics. This historical manifestation of revolution through art and
culture helps to inform a consultant on how they might recommend an industry to invest in Cuban
infrastructure. This manifestation evidences the instability and dissatisfaction of the Cuban people
with current government actions and policies. This dissatisfaction could pose as both risks and
opportunities. The risks affiliated are simply the instability of the Cuban people and the power of the
Cuban Socialist government. One opportunity is evident in the attractiveness of American freedom to
the Cuban people, as they are intrigued by our differences as well as interested in

The Role Of The Dublin Lockout Of 1913
James Larkin, the leader of the Irish Trade Union and the founder of the Irish Transport and General
Workers Union once said The employers cannot carry on industry nor accumulate profits if they have
not got the good will of the workers or their acquiescence in carrying on such industry. In 1911, over
300,000 people lived in Dublin. The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage
was around one pound a week, and that was only if they had a full week of work. Living conditions
were equally as inadequate as the working wages. Lydia Carroll and Enda Leaney found in a housing
enquiry that 87,305 people lived in poverty, almost a third of Dublin s population. 80% of families
lived in one room dwellings. According to the Public Health Report of 1913, 8,639 deaths were
recorded, 1,444 were from tuberculosis and 4,642 were from nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and
digestive diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia due to inadequate sanitary and nutrition.(Devine,

How Does Soda Affect Diet Soda
People nowadays believe that in order for them to live longer is to have a healthy lifestyle, which is a

Spirituality and John Coltrane
After being fired from Miles Davis s band in 1957 for his chronic use of heroin, John Coltrane was
hurt tremendously. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music while
he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous
religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to make
others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was leading a
life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had made to God
(Coltrane, 1995, 2). Starting with A Love Supreme (recorded in December, 1964), Coltrane stuck to ...

As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, he
started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By 1957, he
had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis, a recovering
heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in clothes that looked like
he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be] picking his nose and
sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane nodded out, and Davis
punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his band for the second time.
While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came about was
known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most powerful music of
the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be known as sheets of sound, a
style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he could, while starting and ending

The Deductive Argument Of Evil
The deductive argument for evil is more philosophical and packs a bigger punch, while the evidential
argument is much more convincing, but less powerful in the sense of philosophy. The deductive
argument holds four propositions, the first is that god is all knowing, the second is that god is all
powerful, the third is that god is all good, and finally the fourth is that evil exists in this world. If God
is all of those things, then why does he allow pain and suffering to occur. This is where the evidential
argument comes into play. The evidential argument holds that first, the kind of evil that exists in the
world is unexpected if God exists, and secondly if the kind of evil that exists is not surprising if God
does not exist. Therefore the

Why We Should Celebrate D-Day
We all celebrate many holidays but one holiday that we are missing and should have is D Day. The
Allied forces that fought along side America to try to take back France from Germany. The fight
during D Day was no easy task for the soldiers the location and the weather made it difficult for them
to get to land. Germany had many advantages that took out many soldiers even after they finally got to
the beach. D Day one of the bloodiest days with a battle that was not easy for the Allies should
become a holiday. The date when the battle of Normandy took place was during world war 2 and the
other countries who fought alongside should also celebrate. During World War II, it was the day (June
6, 1944) on which the Allied forces of Britain, Canada, and the United States invaded Normandy coast
of German occupied France ( D Day ). The date for holiday should be June 6 and kids should have a
day off. And we should recommend that Britain and Canada also celebrate this holiday. Britain and
France announced that an invasion there would lead them to declare war with Germany ( Drez 11).

developed for a project at Stanford. This app allows the user to share photos, videos, add
text/drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. Users have the benefit of setting a time
limit for how long the recipient can view their snaps (Ranging from 1 10 seconds), after which the

Primary Research We surveyed random individuals using Qualtrics to gather primary data for our
research. Forty nine individuals responded to our survey, out of which twenty seven were valid
surveys we used for testing. Our survey consisted of the below questions: Have you heard of
SnapChat? Are you a SnapChat user? Gender? Age? How long have you known about SnapChat? Do
you know about Facebook s offer to SnapChat? How did you hear about SnapChat? Will you
recommend SnapChat to others? Did you start using SnapChat before or after Facebook s offer?
Correlations Testing Twenty seven individuals were surveyed to determine for how many months do
they use SnapChat in comparison to their age and if there is a relationship between age and usage of
social media apps such as SnapChat. A Pearson s analysis revealed a moderate negative correlation, r=
.38. Age does have a relation with the number months individuals used SnapChat, as confidence level
in our testing is .049, which is lower than 0.05. The results are reported in Exhibit 1. We chose
Correlations testing as our primary method of testing because our data fit this type of testing and
provided the results we required for our research. Exhibit 1 One Way ANOVA Testing A one way

However people who are not bilingual seems to be excluded in these opportunities. But instead of

affirmative action will force employers to focus on education, certifications, and diplomas. With

When Britain declared war in 1917 and joined forces with the Allied powers, Canada followed suit
immediately. McCrae had seen first hand the deadly effects of war and had no illusions of what to
expect. McCrae was assigned to be surgeon to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade. He felt he was one of
the most qualified doctor soldiers in the country and felt his obligation to the country and to the
Empire. McCrae amp;#8217;s greatest test would come when his Canadian contingent were sent to the
Ypres Salient.
Up to this point the Canadians were not regarded as fighting soldiers and were thus given the
assignment of occupying this relatively quite sector of the front. The importance of Ypres would soon
be realized when on April 22, 1915 the German line used the first poisonous gas attack in war against
the Canadians and Algerians troops to gain access to the important roads that intersected in Ypres. The
Algerian troops fled leaving a gap of six kilometers along the trench system. Now the German side
had the ability to take control of the area. Somehow the gap was filled with the Canadians who even
managed to counterattack, a strategy that came as a complete surprise to the Germans. John McCrae
amp;#8217;s post was near a particularly dangerous section of the road. The Germans had it covered
with artillery fire for seventeen days of battle. McCrae would later

Consider The Lobster By David Foster Wallace Summary
Consider the Lobster 2 In the essay, Consider the Lobster, by David Foster Wallace, a point about
morality with regards to animal abuse is brought up. Much like minorities in America, lobsters are
considered to be the lowest tier of the animal society. The main point about the essay is to alert people
about the issues of torturing animals just for the sake of our humanistic pleasure. What is socially
acceptable as normal behavior is not always the most ethical or moral behavior. At the beginning of
the essay the author describes an annual tradition in Maine, the Lobster Festival. The festival is self
explanatory in that people from all over the area gather to indulge in immense amounts of lobsters.
While this part of the festival is

Impact Of The British On Indian Business Culture
Global managers, and especially the Managing Director of JI (India), have to face several challenges.
These challenges are not clearly defined and different types of challenges, who typify diverse cultural,
political social systems, arise from a complex and dynamic world. Cross cultural Leadership , Ethical
Leadership , and Change Leadership had been identified as the most relevant ones concerning the case
study.
In terms of increasing globalisation, there is the need and necessity for managers to be aware and
more importantly to understand different cultures and hence to be successful in world of high cultural
connection. Culture demonstrates shared values and attitudes. It cannot be only classified by its
geographical boundaries but also by a subcultural, e.g. gender, ethnic and an organisational context
and is influenced by historical, social and political issues (Cavusgil, Knight and Riesenberger, 2008).
The impact of the British on the Indian business culture is reflected in the well educated Indian
bureaucracy and the fact that English is taught in schools. However, cultural differences shouldn t be
neglected. In this point managers should consider in which degree natural culture contrast or is
integrated in organisational culture and its impact on the previously mentioned challenges.
Based on Hofstede s five cultural dimensions, one of the most eminent studies on cross cultural
leadership, overall cultural differences can be compared, especially in this

The Legacy Of Captain John Smith s Life Essay
While it is impossible to truly elaborate or even go into much detail on the exploits of Captain John
Smith s life, in this paper I will be covering several of his many achievements. In addition, I will be
dispelling several of the popular myths in regards to his life that many modern day Americans believe
in. Some of these more modern day myths or false narratives are due to his story being adapted and
changed in order to make a children s video by Disney, while others have been debated by historians
ever since they were penned by Smith in one of his most famous works consisting of six volumes: The
Generall Historie of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles.
While many cannot picture Smith in any context other than with Pocahontas, he had a very active life
before he even met her. As stated by Woolf, prior to even meeting Pocahontas Smith had been in an
army fighting the Ottoman Turks in central Europe, during which he went through several escapes,
was seriously wounded, taken into slavery, after which he murdered his slave master and escaped,
along with being shipwrecked twice. 1 All of these exploits happened before Smith ended up in
Virginia at the Jamestown colony, and met Pocahontas, the narrative of which most Americans are
intimately familiar with or so they think.
To begin, unlike Disney s portrayal of what most people thought of as an epic romance of the ages,
Pocahontas and John Smith were never intimate with each other. In addition, while being the

Circus Maximus Essay
Circus Maximus, Rome

Did you know that Circus Maximus could seat nearly a quarter of Rome s population? That s why it
was one of the biggest and best arenas in ancient Rome. It could seat 250,000 spectators, and had
300,000 seats. It was HUGE, 2037 feet in length and 387 feet in width. It had a circumference of a
mile. It was situated between 2 hills, the Aventine and Palatine hills, and when it started, spectators
watched from there. It had its share of blood and difficulties, but it can t be denied that Circus
Maximus was awe inspiring.
The Circus Maximus was one of the best constructed buildings in ancient Rome, able to withstand a
lot! After burning down twice, It was reconstructed using concrete and marble, making it stronger and
more beautiful than ever (romeguide.it). It was originally made entirely of wood, making it easier for
it to catch fire or collapse, as it also did twice (romeguide.it). There was a separate imperial box for
the Emperor and the royal family, making it a more popular place with important persons and the
Emperor himself (tribunesandtriumphs.org). After its being reconstructed for the second time by
Trajan, Pliny the Younger stated that it rivaled even the beauty of the temples ... Show more content

300,000 seats, as I said before, so lots of Romans could come to events, boosting the popularity of the
Circus (romeguide.it). Finally, the Circus also hosted religious events, and inside there was a built in
shrine and 2 huge obelisks, the smaller of which was 88 feet high (uchicago.edu)! All this was very
important to the Romans, and even to people

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed
unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels.
Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The
megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells
circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do
this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for
activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such
as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not
too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that
can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP. They include petichiae, micro
hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower extremities and purpura, excessive bruising
of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. Through history ITP has not only ... Show more content on

ITP into himself so that the effects on the bone marrow could be studied (Idiopathic, 2014). The
results from the study determined that the bone marrow was not affected and therefore ITP was related
to the platelets themselves. The Harrington Hollingsworth experiment had given the disease an origin,
the platelets themselves. The name of the disease was changed to what it is now considered, immune

Roe V. Wade And Its Impact On American Society

Roe v. Wade and Its Impact on American Society Few Supreme Court decisions have stirred up as
much controversy, vitriolic debate, and even violence as the one delivered in Roe v. Wade in 1973.
Four decades later, it remains a touchstone for the culture wars in the United States and a pivot upon
which much of American politics turns. In fact, the authors of Roe v. Wade: The Abortion Rights
Controversy in American History state that even today, the case (and its companion cases) remains the
most divisive and controversial judicial decision of the twentieth century (3). Although it is a
landmark case in itself, its continuing influence on American law and politics proves that its legacy
lives on far beyond its formal resolution in a court of law. Essentially, the most important points are
that the cause of the case s complexity and drama is the legal relationship between men and women
that the ruling mirrored and compounded, the way the medical profession was impacted, and the
political significance that the issue still holds presently. One cannot understand what Roe v. Wade
meant to women or to men without understanding how abortion became illegal, and that story begins
in the nineteenth century. In 1821, Connecticut became the first state to explicitly criminalize abortion.
The primary purpose of this law was to spell out the conditions under which the state could prosecute
an abortionist for an abortion. The

The temples are all so symbolic, which helps us understand their cosmology and religious ideologies
(Freeman Jacques 47). It has also been recorded that the temple contained a statue of Vishnu, but at
some point, temples were converted to Theravada Buddhist worship. Suryavarman however, chose
Hindu sources as the subject matter Ramayana and Mahabharata epics, were specifically carved on the
two panels. Meanwhile, the Heavens and Hells were carved on the W and E parts of the S gallery

but recently, Chinese began to restore it. In some ways, this symbolically represents the profound
effect Suryavarman and his creation of temples had on the religion and ideology in the Eastern world,
and the future between Cambodia and China. As a result of Suryavarman s dedication to create
reflections of gods and religion, it is inferred that religion and society were intimately linked
throughout the Angkorian period. Suryavarman s reign is also notable for his internal and international
warfare. In other words, his military efforts is what helped set him apart from the other kings. The
walls of the religious shrines that Suryavarman created consist of bas relief scenes, which offer the
history and glory of the Khmer Empire. For example, the third gallery shows the king standing astride

The Pride of Zeus
In Greece and Asia Minor around 2000 B.C. there existed a common belief in a group of deities. Of
this group of deities were twelve Olympians who were immortal. From that group of Olympians came
the most dominant and commanding God known to immortals and mortals alike. That Olympian god
was Zeus; the son of Titans Cronus and Rhea. When Zeus had grown to maturity, he waged war
against his father with his disgorged brothers and sisters as allies. The battle was of epic proportions,
Zeus fighting from Mt. Olympus, Cronus from Mt. Othrys. This is Mark Morford s interpretation of
Zeus rise to power, which he d argue is a story of, The Hero and the Quest (Morford, 76). While there

Only the reflection of Patroclus by Apollo s shield three times prevents this. This lack of moderation
shown by Patroclus, as well as the deeming of death before the end of battle by fate, granted by Zeus,
leads to his death. Patroclus replied, half fainting, For this once, Hector, make your proud boast; for
you are the victor, by help of Zeus and Apollo, who mastered me an easy thing (Homer, 245). Zeus
serves as an enforcer of fate in the epic, giving no ground to anyone, even his blood relatives.
Zeus also shows no mercy to mortals in The Iliad. His own son, Sarpedon, was allowed to die at the
hands of Patroclus while Zeus looked on, unwilling to break fate and save even his own son. Zeus was
debating whether or not to take him from the battlefield, but Hera convinced him by expressing the
feelings other gods would have, namely anger. She told him that he would not be praised and that
other gods would possibly take their loved ones out of battle as well. Zeus was confined to his own
sorrow because he was not willing to take his son out of the battle. Zeus was able, however, to have
Apollo take his body from the battlefield and take him back to Lykia, where he could be buried as a
hero.
Zeus also wanted a respectable and honorable death for Hector, the Trojan hero, and was infuriated
when Achilles decided to desecrate the body of Hector. This epic ends when

You are in an airport waiting for your plane to arrive. You ve never flown before, and are more

statistics millions of planes take off each day and there s only a handful of crashes, flying is safer than
driving. You know rationally that there is no reason to be so scared, but regardless your heart is racing,
your palms are sweating, and you re light headed. Simply the thought of being up in the air, out of

(3) Women are two to three times as likely to have phobias than men. There are three basic kinds of
phobias: agoraphobia (fear of situations in which escape may be difficult), social phobia, and specific
phobias. The DSM IV has separated phobic stimuli into four basic categories: animal, situational,
blood injury, and nature environment. (3)
Though the experience of phobias is relatively common and their physical characteristics are generally
well understood, there is no real consensus on the neurobiological basis of phobias. Instead, there are
currently several different models and theories that work to try to understand how and why phobias
occur in the human brain. Most hypotheses regarding phobias take a different approach, from
biological to psychoanalytic to evolutionary. Is there one model that seems less wrong or more
satisfying in our efforts to understand the biology of phobias? Using the various models, how do
phobias seem to come about? How does thinking about phobias add to our understanding of the brain
and behavior?
The classical conditioning model was one of the first theories used to describe phobias. Many years
ago, scientists observed that one could willingly elicit a fear response in an animal or human through
systematic teaching. For example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is
electrically shocked, eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will exhibit
symptoms of fear. (3) Scientists

Burglary South Carolina
The definition of burglary in South Carolina is straight forward, consistent with most state statutes.
This includes, but is not limited to: home, business, warehouse, garage, tool shed, dog house, etc.
Burglary occurs when anyone enters a structure with criminal intent and without the owner s consent.
It bears mentioning that the above represent two elements , and both of these elements are necessary
for one to be charged with burglary. As with any other charge in the American criminal justice system,
in lieu of the defendant s admission of guilt, the prosecutor must prove his or her case beyond a
reasonable doubt. The charge of burglary is divided into two distinct elements: The first element.
Entering the structure. The prosecution must prove actual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This conviction carries a sentence of not more than 15 years, with the possibility of parole not less
than one third of the total sentence. The defendant is guilty of burglary in the second degree if he or
she: 1) Enters with criminal intent, enters the building without the owner s consent or both. 2)
Threatens the use of a deadly weapon or instrument. 3) Brandishes what appears to be any deadly
weapon. 4) The defendant has two or more convictions for breaking and entering, burglary or both. 5)
The burglary took place at night. (S.C. Laws for Ann. § 16 11 312.) Violent burglary differs from
burglary in the first degree in that it states a building and not a dwelling (as in a home) Burglary in the
third degree. Any defendant convicted of this charge may not receive a sentence of more than five
years for the first offense, and no more than 10 years for the second conviction. This, of course, is
completely at the discretion of the court. In order for a conviction for burglary in the third degree, the
prosecution must prove that the defendant entered the building without consent, with criminal intent,
and without any violent or aggravating circumstances. (S.C. Laws Ann. §

Dj Shadow And Cut Chemist Analysis
DJ Shadow and Cut Chemists Renegades of Rhythm Tour is taking place two consecutive nights at
Irving Plaza today, Thursday September 4th, and tomorrow, Friday September 5th. In anticipation,
FDRMX took a look at Cut Chemist s 2006 album, The Audience s Listening, his first proper (non
mix) debut LP. 1. The Motivational Speaker opens the album with a 50 s recording of mono toned,
emotionless military voice. The DJ of the future is going to be a respected member of the community,
the voice predicts. Motivate people to get out... and buy... or try... or use. 2. [My 1st] Big Break warns
that The robots... are coming, and the groove commences in a style highly reminiscent of Fatboy Slim,
with its booming drums, groovy shuffle, and playground melody. 3. The Lift has a female voice
recording that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Garden draws from Bossa Nova, Brazilian jungle boogie beat, and borrows vocals in the style of
Astrud Gilberto, the sultry low voice is quite identifiable. 5. Spat in an exchange of small chat
between robotic 50 s records and possibly Jamaicans, all laid over a jazzy backing track consisting of
piano, brushes on the drums, and the occasional sax honk. The samples are credited to Laurie
Anderson. 6. What s the Altitude features rapper Hymnal over an absurdly catchy hook you can t help
but bob to, made up of crazily diverse auxiliary percussion, and mix between surfy and pop beats. As
with many catchy tunes, this track is fairly bare bones. 7. Metrorail Thru Space brings the album down
for a bit, with slightly more ominous chord progressions, and a choral style collection of bum bums
that echo sonorously over the disco like drum beats. The track definitely chills you out, despite the
upbeat tempo and galactic synth runs. 8. Storm features Edan and Mr. Lif and like it s name, the track
storms through with 80 s electro beats and synths, with smatterings of underground rapped lyrics
twisting your tongue throughout in the style of William S.

The theme of the 2 story s The Lottery by Shirly Jaxson and First they came ... by Martin Niemoller is
it is dangerous to follow blindly . The lottery is a story were everyone still does this tradition that
basically gets people killed if they win then the towns people throw rocks at the people who won .
They first came is a poem and it is about how the Nazis come for all of these different people and he
did not stand up then they came for him and no one else was there to help him so basically taking the
right path is not always the easiest path . So basically the two story s are saying it is dangerous to
follow the crowd and it can end in disastrous consequences .
The lottery is in a little town in the southern part of the world were it was summer so it was the time
for the lottery . In the story the author says But in this village of about only 300 people . Then the
author said The children gather first of course they recently got out of school for summer . Also he
says The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny .
In first they came it is in WW2 it is a poem were he goes with the crowd the they come for him and no
one would help him . He says that They first came for the socialist and then the Unionist and then the
Jews and then him . First the came is a first person story . In First they came the Nazis do not like

Freak The Mighty Kevin And Max Comparison
In the novel Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick Max and Freak, two very different people,
become friends over the course of the book solving many problems a long the way. Max and Kevin
are both very similar but also quite different. They have similar problems in there life s but handle
them differently. Such as there family problems and disabilities. One of the similarities that these two
characters share is that they both have disabilities that make life harder for them. Kevin, or Freak has a
physical disability called Morquio. This disability causes many problems for Kevin including a
misshapen spine and knock knees which make it hard for Kevin to move around. On the other hand
Max has a mental disorder called dyslexia. Dyslexia causes Max to ... Show more content on

Another similarity with them both is that they are quite sensitive in the topic of there fathers. Kevin s
father left him at a very young age so he is a little less sensitive then Max who had been emotionally
scared by his father. On page 71 Loretta said He must be a magician, because as soon as he heard the
magic words birth defect, he disappeared. This is why Freak isn t as sad or scared because his father
left him. Max on the other hand saw his own father choke his mother to death. Max and Freak are also
very different with the ways that they deal with problems and more. Freak looks past his disability and
tries to enjoy life to the fullest, but Max lets his disability get in his way. Max keeps saying that he is
stupid or dumb and that he cant do anything. There is also a difference in the way they act. Freak is
brave and doesn t care much for the consequences if what he s doing is right. Max though is cowardly
and no mater wether it is right he still wouldn t stand up for himself or others. One of the times that
Max acted cowardly was in the beginning( chapter 6) when Tony D. came to the 4th of July party.
Max wanted to get away as quick as possible but Freak talked back to him. This is an example of

Sustained Release Analysis
Time released supplements are dissolved slowly and deliver a steady amount of vitamins over a period
of time. Sustained release has a longer half life and produces stable levels of the vitamin throughout
the day (Cascade, Kalali, Weisler, 2008). They are enteric coated, which protects them from being
digested in the stomach. They contain tiny pellets of the vitamin, each individually coated so that their
contents are steadily released overtime (United States Pharmacopeia, 2012).
Extended release is designed to prolong absorption of vitamins with shorter half lives. This allows for
longer dosing intervals and decreases fluctuations in serum levels (Perucca, 2009). One example is
extended release niacin which helps avoid side effects of flushing ... Show more content on

Essay On Assimilation In Canada
Within the international community Canada is regarded as an ethnically diverse country. Conversely
having many cultures under one roof does not represent multiculturalism. Over the 150 years Canada
has existed, there have been many instances of persecution against immigrant and First Nation
populations. Thomas King s Totem and Wayson Choy The Jade Peony unveil how their cultures fight
to hold onto their heritage. This heritage which they regard very highly is stripped away by the
government to force an inclusion into Canadian Society. Canada s ethnic groups are forced to separate
into isolated islands or else they are coerced into assimilation.
Ever since white settlers landed on Canadian shores in the 1600 s, there have been conflicts with the
First Nations. From driving them off their land to exterminating them with European diseases, the
First Nation population has been struggling to keep their lineage and history from being erased. With
the struggle to keep themselves from being cut [off] close to the floor (Page 2) the First Nation society
has been confined to a small patch of land called a reservation , a small downsize from all of Canada.
The forced isolation that their population has endured has meant that the chances of the First Nations
integrating into modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of an individual immigrating to a new country and picking up its heritage is a facade that is
placed upon the immigrants of Canada. To fit in as a Canadian, the public needs to see one as a born
Canadian and this is troublesome to many people. Many immigrants and non Canadians can relate to
the family in The Jade Peony who s new lives in Canada has left their family torn and confused in a
strange land [where] everything [is] so very foreign and scientific (Page 3). Although this seems to
exacerbate what it s like living in Canada as a minority, it is a reality for people like the family in The

Western Influences on Folk-Custom in Shanghai
Western Influences on Folk custom in Shanghai
The change of Folk custom is an important part of the change of society. As a metropolis in China,
Shanghai combines her own features with many other country s history and culture. As a result, the
Folk customs in Shanghai have changed a lot due to the impact of western culture.
The influences on proprieties
As a traditional city in China, Shanghai paid much attention to the etiquette and custom when people
met together in the old days. At that time, people must make a bow with hands folded in front,
worship on bended knees or pay respects to the others according to their social status. Worship on
bended knees is a posture to show compliment to others, in order to symbolize the rating of ... Show

Gown was the typical old Chinese clothing, while the women wore cheongsams. The abuse of such
clothing was not corresponds to the requirement of equality and did not match the increasing cadence
of life.
So, people in Shanghai began to accept the western clothing. Chemise, overcoat, trousers, shoe
leather, socks were gradually popularized in Shanghais. The western elements in clothing are
increasing day by day.
The influences on diet
There is an ancient Chinese remark still going around like this. Food is the paramount necessity of
people. China is a country with a splendid catering culture. For a very long time, the habit of diet in
Shanghai didn t changed a lot. But as the infiltration of the western culture, the western diet is
introduced to Shanghai, and some western food is becoming more and more popular in Shanghai.
Champagne, tea with milk, carbonated drink, ice cream, bread and cake are widely accepted by people
of Shanghai. This shows that western diet culture has brought about great changes in diet structure in
Shanghai.
All the aspects of folk customs as mentioned upwards can reflect the great impact which is given to
Shanghai by the western culture. The communication between Chinese culture and western culture has
been enhanced and the two kinds of cultures have reached to an amalgamation. Shanghai has absorbed
the elite of western culture, and the society of Shanghai

  • 2. The Future Of Zoos During The World Of Activists Attacks The Future of Zoos In the Midst of Activists Attacks In an increasingly threatening environmental crisis, zoos are participating in the conservation of species. The biodiversity of the animal and plant worlds is being deeply affected, on the one hand by the disruption of ecosystems caused mainly by climate change and deforestation, and on the other hand, by the globalization of trade, travel, transport, and tourism. These two factors are increasingly reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). Even in the face of the environmental serial destruction, animal protectionist and wildlife conservationist activists criticize zoo s efforts to protect the animals they house. The ways zoos progresses in the future to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Doctor Chris Parsons, former Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, explains animal welfare groups accept the use of animals for some human interests like clothing, food, recreational need, or scientific experiments, as long as the animal is free of stress and pain . The influential groups, the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recognize on their website some zoos are beneficial to animals supporting conservation programs, participating in the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and promoting education about the importance of wildlife. However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the Humane Society recommends zoos to be organized around a core mission that educates the public about the needs of the animals and the threats they face . Also, zoos should provide animals with humane care and adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs. Finally, ASPCA indicates, zoos should participate in tightly controlled breeding programs and their display should stress the themes of endangered species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity . Unfortunately, many zoos are not falling under this description, but they can act on several factors in the intent to work towards the animal welfare activists demands. Human treatment of captive animals and their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Measuring the Melting Points of Compounds and Mixtures Essay TECH0701: Measuring the Melting Points of Compounds and Mixtures Introduction This exercise dealt with the melting points of pure mandelic acid and benzoic acid. The eutectic temperature and composition of mandelic and benzoic acid mixtures were determined. And finally, an unknown was identified by its mixtures and melting point. The melting point of a compound is used by organic chemists not only to identify the compound, but also to establish its purity. To determine the melting point two temperatures were noted. The first was the point at which the first drop of liquid formed among the crystals; the second was the point at which the whole mass of crystals turned to a clear liquid. • 4. Adam And Eve In Homer s Odyssey Adam and Eve, these names are synonymous with how human nature conquers logical thinking. Eve was enticed by the apple, she became selfish and was ingenuous of the consequences. Today, many are overtook by temptation, apathetic of the possible consequences. This morality confliction even appears in literature, such as the Odyssey. In the Odyssey by Homer, when hunger for pride interferes with heroism, the characters susceptibility to temptation heightens. Odysseus portrays cockiness which ignites his witty actions if he is faced with obstacles. These actions are seen throughout the story, especially when he has an audience. Odysseus has the need to sustain a perfect image, one where he deludes others into believing he is godly. His hubris ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its as if his will to keep his dignity overrules his actions, that he cannot accept being looked down upon. His need to control everything at all times shows how manipulative he can be. This manipulation is showed in another section of the Odyssey, where Odysseus causes his crew to believe that there is a way out without death. Odysseus states, Should know what the goddess Circe foretold. Better we should all know, live or die. We may still beat death and get out of this alive. ( Book12XII, 162 164) Circe had foreshadowed many losses if they chose to continue this journey, yet Odysseus made the decision to continue on. ( some may argue idk how to start this ) This could be seen as a heroic action displaying bravery and courage yet this action only magnifies Odysseus other side. This other side instead portrays him as a person who easily falls into their desires and temptation. This transpires because of his hunger for kleos which falls under the category of pride. Kleos overtakes him causing him to do irrational actions and being selfish, kleos interfered in this situation by making him more willing to sacrifice his men, knowing there is no way out. • 5. Graphic Designs Of Graphic Design Disciplines Essay Graphic Design Disciplines It did not require very much thought to narrow down the list of Graphic Design Disciplines. Of the twelve types of disciplines discussed, I can see myself working in the fields of Brand and Identity Design, Motion Graphics, and Advertising. Brand and Identity Design is what most people think of when hearing the words graphic design . Admittedly, I assumed that the creation of logos, the look of products, websites, were the only aspects of this field. So, those were the things I created in my leisurely time, or the things I was required to produce in high school classes and competitions. I now know that those aspects only comprise a small part of graphic design, and provides a miniscule, vague description of what Brand Designers achieve. A Brand Designer is responsible for the overall representation of a company, and must market a company s particular brand through the use of several mediums. Those mediums include logos, web sites, apps, and so on. A consistence must exist in everything produced for a certain company because the point/ of a brand is to label a company to they are simple to identify, and companies cannot be easily labelled with ever changing brands. If I choose the Brand Design disciplines, I am considering working towards a job as a Senior Graphic Designer. I would work closely with the marketing department of a company to help create brand designs. It would be my responsibility to overlook the company s brand and ensure that works ... Bob O Connors sentía que la valorización de US$ 6 millones que hizo Walnut para su empresa RBS era baja, pues desde su punto de vista un precio más real era en torno a los US$ 8 10 millones. Sintered Ceramic Materials Where Nc= number of molecules per unit cell (Z=8), A= molecular weight of Cu0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 (236.81 g.mole 1), Vc= unit cell volume (584.172x10 24cm3) and Na=Avogadro s number (6.023x1023 molecules.mole 1). The measured theoretical density (ρth) was found to be 5.3844g.cm 3. The apparent density of pellet specimens sintered at 850oC and 1050oC was measured by using Ultrapycnometer 1000 which was varified by Archimedes buoyancy Principle and was found to be 4.8 g.cm 3 and 5.02 g.cm 3 respectively. These densities were 91.38% and 93.23% of the theoretical values (% relative densities). Percentage porosity [59] of sintered pellet specimens was found to be 8.2% and 6.8% respectively. It is observed Cu0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 sintered ceramic composed of uniformly sized grains and is 93% relative density. The high sintered density can be attributed due to the small degree of agglomeration and fine nature of powder. The properties of sintered ceramic materials depend upon the sintered density and porosity of ceramic. It is well known that during sintering of homogeneous materials, the porosity decreases and the microstructures of the material develop, depending upon the morphology, agglomeration and sintering conditions. The Cu0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 specimen sintered at 850oC has lower %relative density as compared to specimen sintered at 1050oC. One of the most puzzling questions in anthropology is why marriage and incest taboos are nearly universal institutions in human societies. In order to answers these questions their many theories will be explained and compared. There are many theories for the universal institution of marriage. It solves a few problems between men and women, but these problems cannot be considered the prime motivation for marriage as an institution. Some of these problems include sharing the products of gendered labor, caring for extremely dependent offspring, and minimizing sexual competition. If sharing the products of labor was the cause of the development of marriage, why did humans not evolve a more efficient system of distribution? If minimizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The production of such offspring would render these unions evolutionarily unfit. Sex and Gender are two very different concepts in anthropology. Sex refers to the biological differences inherent in males and females. Gender is a socially and culturally defined construction and may be different between different societies. In many different cultures gender differences do not always align with sexual differences. Many cultures in fact see male and female as opposing ends of a continuum; there may be many intermediate genders between male and female. These social constructions may be very difficult to separate from the biological realities of maleness and femaleness. For example a cross cultural study done by anthropologists recorded that boys within many societies tend to be more aggressive than the females within that same culture. Females in turn tend to be more nurturing in those cultures. Since these differences are universal, are they a product of biological differences? Or do all societies need men and women for different roles and so they socialize their children appropriately? A study on Australian aborigines has shown a high level of female aggression, leading many researchers to speculate that behavioral differences are cultural in origin. • 9. Driver Responsibility Program Analysis According to Oxford Dictionaries, surcharge mean: An additional charge or payment. For the state of Texas and New Jersey, this law has been put in place for their drivers who commit a traffic ticket offence. The Driver Responsibility Program, created in 2003, requires drivers to pay annual surcharges on top of the fines and legal fees attached to traffic violations, such as driving without insurance or while intoxicated. These surcharges keep people from registering their car, getting their license and being legal on the road. This law have more illegal drivers on the Texas roads. Drivers aren t automatically levied surcharges for minor tickets for speeding or car accidents, but a point system is used to punish repeat offenders. If a driver accrues six points in a three year period, a surcharge is assessed. Failure to pay results in a suspended driver s license. Even for those who know about the payment options, though, the application process can be burdensome, critics say. It requires applicants to get documents notarized and to provide financial documentation, including an income tax form. Bill Lewis testified on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Driving , an organization that supported the program when it was first enacted but now wants lawmakers to reform the program to better assist the millions of drivers caught up in the surcharges. Staudt said she believes the program is unconstitutional because it penalizes drivers twice for the same violation. Out of the 3.2 billion dollars billed to Texas drivers only 1.2 billion dollars has been collected. The reason for this law is, Texans has come up with a reliable revenue for trauma hospitals, Yáñez Correa (TCJC) said. • 12. The Beliefs Of Society In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart In the novel, Things Fall Apart, the author Chinua Achebe details the life of the protagonist, Okonkwo, and through him the rituals and customs of the Ibo people. The practices of the Ibo people are highly religious and taken very seriously throughout the whole clan. The religious guidance of a select few spiritual figures dictates the lives of the entire population. Traditions have deep religious connotations and have been passed down from the tribal ancestors who started the customs. These ways prompt many problems for Okonkwo and others surrounding him. Chapter 13 displays the disapproval some clansmen have with how situations are handled in the society and is ultimately setting up the scene for why some Ibo decide to convert to Christianity. The Ibo have an arbitrary set of rules, and this unchanging set of conventions is the source of flaws in their society. Society should change to encompass the evolving thought styles of its members. It s the right and duty of the people to engender change in a system that they believe is flawed. In Chapter 13, Obierika ponders the way society reacts to Okonkwo s mishap, Why should a man suffer so grievously for an offense he had committed inadvertently? Although he thought for a long time he found no answer (Achebe 106). Many Ibo don t view what Okonkwo did as a truly evil and punishable act. • 13. American Influence On Cuban Culture The American perspective of Cuba is one that varies from person to person, generation to generation. Commonly, Millennials view Cuba as a country of opportunity and intrigue while the Baby Boomers approach Cuba with an air of caution. This disconnect exists because the generations before ours experienced the alienation that came into play in the media when the Eisenhower administration placed the embargo on exports in 1960. Considering this disconnect is one of the many issues that have to be taken into consideration when discussing how Americans view Cuba, and looking into how our relationship with their country will develop in the future. It is highly likely that this view is also affected by individuals opinions of socialist governments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In what ways would you say the culture of Cuba informs the way we might recommend any type of industry considering investing in Cuba s infrastructure? Cuban culture is unique and seems untainted by corporate America, and this entices the American people. Being able to walk through cities without recognizing large corporate branding such as the Starbucks mermaid and McDonald s golden arches on every building is rare. Cuba s pure culture has been presented to the world in the form of poetry, sculptures, music, and other various forms of artistic representations. Oftentimes, this cultural exploration through art presents itself as a form of revolt. One historical example of Cuban revolt through music was Los Frikis. In the 80 s, Cuban misfits and punk rockers expressed their version of a revolution through music and self imposed death sentences. Los Frikis was a group that, in many extreme cases, knowingly injected themselves with blood containing the AIDS/HIV virus. In their eyes, this was the only way to set themselves free from the control of their government. Another example of Cuban culture and art expressed as a form of a revolution is the poetry of Jose Marti. His poetry was thought provoking and pushed readers to debate opinionated (and often political) topics. This historical manifestation of revolution through art and culture helps to inform a consultant on how they might recommend an industry to invest in Cuban infrastructure. This manifestation evidences the instability and dissatisfaction of the Cuban people with current government actions and policies. This dissatisfaction could pose as both risks and opportunities. The risks affiliated are simply the instability of the Cuban people and the power of the Cuban Socialist government. One opportunity is evident in the attractiveness of American freedom to the Cuban people, as they are intrigued by our differences as well as interested in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of The Dublin Lockout Of 1913 James Larkin, the leader of the Irish Trade Union and the founder of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union once said The employers cannot carry on industry nor accumulate profits if they have not got the good will of the workers or their acquiescence in carrying on such industry. In 1911, over 300,000 people lived in Dublin. The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage was around one pound a week, and that was only if they had a full week of work. Living conditions were equally as inadequate as the working wages. Lydia Carroll and Enda Leaney found in a housing enquiry that 87,305 people lived in poverty, almost a third of Dublin s population. 80% of families lived in one room dwellings. According to the Public Health Report of 1913, 8,639 deaths were recorded, 1,444 were from tuberculosis and 4,642 were from nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia due to inadequate sanitary and nutrition.(Devine, pg 3 4) These conditions sparked many protests as workers became desperate. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music while he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to make others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was leading a life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had made to God (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, he started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By 1957, he had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis, a recovering heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in clothes that looked like he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be] picking his nose and sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane nodded out, and Davis punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his band for the second time. While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came about was known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most powerful music of the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be known as sheets of sound, a style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he could, while starting and ending in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first acclaimed album on the Blue Note label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards. Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came up with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Deductive Argument Of Evil The deductive argument for evil is more philosophical and packs a bigger punch, while the evidential argument is much more convincing, but less powerful in the sense of philosophy. The deductive argument holds four propositions, the first is that god is all knowing, the second is that god is all powerful, the third is that god is all good, and finally the fourth is that evil exists in this world. If God is all of those things, then why does he allow pain and suffering to occur. This is where the evidential argument comes into play. In addition, I will be dispelling several of the popular myths in regards to his life that many modern day Americans believe in. Some of these more modern day myths or false narratives are due to his story being adapted and changed in order to make a children s video by Disney, while others have been debated by historians ever since they were penned by Smith in one of his most famous works consisting of six volumes: The Generall Historie of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles. While many cannot picture Smith in any context other than with Pocahontas, he had a very active life before he even met her. As stated by Woolf, prior to even meeting Pocahontas Smith had been in an army fighting the Ottoman Turks in central Europe, during which he went through several escapes, was seriously wounded, taken into slavery, after which he murdered his slave master and escaped, along with being shipwrecked twice. 1 All of these exploits happened before Smith ended up in Virginia at the Jamestown colony, and met Pocahontas, the narrative of which most Americans are intimately familiar with or so they think. To begin, unlike Disney s portrayal of what most people thought of as an epic romance of the ages, Pocahontas and John Smith were never intimate with each other. In addition, while being the ... • 31. Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Although it is a landmark case in itself, its continuing influence on American law and politics proves that its legacy lives on far beyond its formal resolution in a court of law. Before writing this book, a team of a few people interviewed over 200 survivors and witnesses of 9/11 and researched historical facts, radio transmissions, phone messages, and emails from the day of the attack. This book aims to tell what happened solely from the perspective of people inside the building and the people who rushed to help them such as the New York Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Service, and more. It describes the simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dianne was sitting in her office doing her work when she got knocked off her chair and her locked door swung open. Some people refused to evacuate until they knew exactly what was going on, others rushed to get out of the building as fast as possible. Another chapter Mom, I m not calling to chat was was all about people who were trying to communicate with loved ones and tell them about what was happening incase they weren t already informed. • 37. Phobias and the Brain Essay Phobias and the Brain You are in an airport waiting for your plane to arrive. You ve never flown before, and are more terrified than you can ever remember being. Everyone has told you the supposedly comforting statistics millions of planes take off each day and there s only a handful of crashes, flying is safer than driving. You know rationally that there is no reason to be so scared, but regardless your heart is racing, your palms are sweating, and you re light headed. Simply the thought of being up in the air, out of control, makes you feel faint. Finally the flight attendant announces that your plane has arrived. But as all the other passengers line up to get onboard, you grab your luggage and walk straight out of the airport, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (3) Women are two to three times as likely to have phobias than men. There are three basic kinds of phobias: agoraphobia (fear of situations in which escape may be difficult), social phobia, and specific phobias. The DSM IV has separated phobic stimuli into four basic categories: animal, situational, blood injury, and nature environment. (3) Though the experience of phobias is relatively common and their physical characteristics are generally well understood, there is no real consensus on the neurobiological basis of phobias. Instead, there are currently several different models and theories that work to try to understand how and why phobias occur in the human brain. Most hypotheses regarding phobias take a different approach, from biological to psychoanalytic to evolutionary. Is there one model that seems less wrong or more satisfying in our efforts to understand the biology of phobias? Using the various models, how do phobias seem to come about? How does thinking about phobias add to our understanding of the brain and behavior? The classical conditioning model was one of the first theories used to describe phobias. Many years ago, scientists observed that one could willingly elicit a fear response in an animal or human through systematic teaching. For example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is electrically shocked, eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will exhibit symptoms of fear. • 42. Sustained Release Analysis Time released supplements are dissolved slowly and deliver a steady amount of vitamins over a period of time. Sustained release has a longer half life and produces stable levels of the vitamin throughout the day (Cascade, Kalali, Weisler, 2008). They are enteric coated, which protects them from being digested in the stomach. They contain tiny pellets of the vitamin, each individually coated so that their contents are steadily released overtime (United States Pharmacopeia, 2012). Extended release is designed to prolong absorption of vitamins with shorter half lives. This allows for longer dosing intervals and decreases fluctuations in serum levels (Perucca, 2009). • 43. Essay On Assimilation In Canada Within the international community Canada is regarded as an ethnically diverse country. Conversely having many cultures under one roof does not represent multiculturalism. Over the 150 years Canada has existed, there have been many instances of persecution against immigrant and First Nation populations. Thomas King s Totem and Wayson Choy The Jade Peony unveil how their cultures fight to hold onto their heritage. This heritage which they regard very highly is stripped away by the government to force an inclusion into Canadian Society. Canada s ethnic groups are forced to separate into isolated islands or else they are coerced into assimilation. Ever since white settlers landed on Canadian shores in the 1600 s, there have been conflicts with the First Nations. From driving them off their land to exterminating them with European diseases, the First Nation population has been struggling to keep their lineage and history from being erased. With the struggle to keep themselves from being cut [off] close to the floor (Page 2) the First Nation society has been confined to a small patch of land called a reservation , a small downsize from all of Canada.
