Introduction
Nowadays, with the development of technology, the demand for high speed computing for the
computers increases significantly. Cloud computing is the most emphasized Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) which can effectively implement high speed computing [1].
Most common products that people used in their daily life such as cloud drive and Google search
are based on cloud computing, therefore it is necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The high rotation speed will cause not only the dramatic increase of temperature but also the
loud noise. The low energy efficiency of HDDs is due to the heat loss which is caused by high
temperature, and the friction in mechanical content of discs and air. As for the SSD, the data
will be stored in the flash chip through the channel of transistors, so it does not require rotating
[4]. It can save a massive range of energy which HDDs will lose when HDDs are rotating. It is
extremely energy efficient to use SSDs in ICT equipment because the demand for writing or
reading data is increasing dramatically. The drawback is that the price of SSDs is much higher
than that of HDDs, so the SSD is difficult to be widely used until the price is reasonable. In
addition, improving the energy efficiency of cooling system is also effective [5]. To be specific, it
is important to use right sizing cooling system, which can automatically adjust the power of cooling
system [5]. The temperature for ICT equipment is variable, therefore the cooling system can
increase the power while the temperature is high. On the contrary, the cooling system can decrease
the power while the temperature is low. To successfully implement right sizing cooling system, the
data center operators should take additional methods to measure the temperature [5]. Thirdly, the
energy efficiency of server processors is also helpful for reducing energy consumption

Scientific Method Steps
Scientific method is a set of rules about how to establish rules. Not only to solve scientific
problem but also solving everyday problem. The scientific method have nine steps. The first one
is observe that is when a person observe something that they cannot readily explain with their
knowledge. The second is define the problem, is when you have clear what is the thing that you
cannot explain, also is like the question. Next, review the literature, check if everything that you
are going to use is okay and if you understand so you can get to the point without problems.
Another, observe some more, it is basically the same as the first step but here you have to observe
with a different point of view so you do not get the same as the first step

The Great Gatsby Argumentative Quotes
422726 Prompt 4 Comments The Hunt The human race can never be fully satisfied. There are
goals everyone tries to accomplish, hopes they want to achieve, and dreams they want to fulfill.
Almost all Americans want The American Dream of building up their own wealth, having the
highest social status, and lastly having a picture perfect family. Throughout the novel, The Great
Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he reveals the truth behind the American dream: it is possible to
build up an empire of wealth, however, Americans can never get to the highest social class unless
born into it, nor can they ever have the ideal, perfect family. James Gatz through hard work and
dedication turns himself into Jay Gatsby, a self made millionaire. James Gatz... Show more content

Gatsby will never truly be as exclusive as the other high class members due to the fact he, along
with the other self made millionaires, are considered newly rich people [who] are just big
bootleggers (107). East Egg is home to the prestigious residents of old money including Tom and
Daisy. West Egg just across the bay is the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most
superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them, which is
home to Nick and Gatsby (5). A distinction between the classes is their source of transportation.
The people of West Egg drive the modern, luxury cars, Gatsby himself included, who drives a
rich cream color, bright with nickel car (64), while the people of East Egg still believe horses
are the best ways for transportation. Old money folk believe horses are the more prestigious
way to travel; Tom being from East Egg has a string of polo ponies from Lake forest (6) giving
him a sense of superiority. Gatsby [hasn t] got a horse (103) since he recently came into his
money, and is more into the modern luxuries the rich have to offer such as cars. The people of
East Egg look down on West Egg residents because in their eyes they are not as good as
themselves. The separation between the two classes cause the American Dream of being a
member of the highest social class to be unreachable for anyone including Gatsby. Not only can
Gatsby not reach the American Dream of being the highest social class, he will also never achieve
the American Dream of a picture perfect

Afterlife In The Odyssey
Afterlife
People are always questioning whether Hell and Heaven are real or not. The thought of an
afterlife is something every human thinks about. In Core 3 we read many books, one being Virgil
s The Aeneid, and another being Homer s The Odyssey. Both books have to do with men
attempting to complete a journey. Both books involve the Trojan War and journeys across roaring
seas. During each book, the men enter the afterlife with a guide to help them through Hell, and each
author gives their own thoughts depicting how it might appear. This year in Core 4 we read Dante
s Inferno, a book about Dante going to the afterlife guided by Virgil, a Roman poet. The authors all
have some similarities in their interpretations of Hell. However, there are ... Show more content on

All the stories describe what Hell might be like, just from three different perspectives. There are
also differences when comparing the three. In Dante s first Canto, we learn that large beasts guard
the gates of Hell and, to get up to heaven, you must pass through Hell and Purgatory. The large
beasts at the front gates are similar in both Homer s and Virgil s idea of what the front gate
could be like. Dante has Virgil to guide him, Odysseus did not really have a guide but Aeneas
had the Sibyl. Dante, like Aeneas and Odysseus, performed rituals before he entered Hell. When
Dante enters hell he is very scared knowing that very few people who are alive that ever enter
Hell and also come back. In all three stories the living are not welcomed into Hell. Aeneas had
the golden stick, Odysseus had permission, and Dante was allowed because Virgil acquainted
him, who was helped from above. All three characters, when coming up to the gate of Hell, hear
cries of the tortured souls and understand this is a place for torment. In the Aeneid, to enter Hell,
you must cross a river, but not in the Odyssey. The Odyssey does mention some rivers, but does
not get into detail about them. Dante is taken across this river by Cheron. He runs the ferry and
takes the doomed souls across the Acheron. The river is filled with souls trying to escape, but they
cannot; this is similar to the

Sociology and Disabilities
If the technology became available for the deaf to hear completely, would you want your deaf
child to have this technology? It is every parent s dream for their child to grow up healthy and
happy. There are so many children in the world that do not have the ability to hear, and it is a
horrible thing. Many would think it wrong for a parent to not want to give their child the gift of
sight. If I had a child that was deaf, I would do everything in my power to help them get their
hearing. If the technology was there to fix this disability, why wouldn t anyone want their child to
have it? 840 babies are born with a permanent hearing loss every year. (NDCS of UK). This is a

And according to Anderson Taylor, Gays and lesbians are minority groups in society in that they
have been denied equal rights and are singled out for negative treatment by dominant groups.
Women have been discriminated against throughout all of American history. There has been a lot
of progress made to help achieve equality, but there is still a glass ceiling holding women down in
the workplace, and women are not given the same rights and privileges of men. As a result, there
has been a lot of feminist theory trying to achieve equality. Feminism has many meanings, but at
the very lest, it refers to beliefs and actions that support justice, fairness, and equity for all women,
regardless of their race, age, class, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. (Anderson Taylor
p.375). Is one form of oppression more harsh than another form? That all depends on the form of
oppression. There has been far more violence in the acts of racism than other forms of
oppression, such has sexism and homophobia. However, all forms of oppression are harsh, no
matter who it is targeted against. No one wins when all that s being expressed is hate and fear. Not
only is there oppression against minority groups, but also from the government. One of these is the

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is a novel by Maya Angelou, where she writes about her
childhood and her experiences while growing up. This non fiction novel illustrates Maya Angelou
s childhood, being tossed around by her parents, and having to experience different cultures. Maya
struggles particularly in finding friends, she is reserved, and will only open up to Bailey, her
brother. Maya moves a couple of times to different places, which may contribute to her not having
friends. The novel revolves around Maya Angelou, Bailey, and her grandmother, evolving through
life from being a child to a teenager. This novel is set in the South , in America. Maya Angelou
describes what her life with her grandmother is like while constantly being discriminated against
her race. She then found her father, and he leaves Maya and Bailey off to their mother s house.
There, the mother s boyfriend rapes Maya. After suffering from psychological shock, Maya then
moves back to her grandmother s. As a teenager Maya gets nervous about her sexual identity and
tries to discover it. Through these harsh times, the naГЇve and softhearted Maya grows to become a
strong, independent woman. A major theme in this book is about God. Seen in, If there is going
to be hope and a hope of wholeness, is the unshaking need for an unshakeable God. (23) Maya s

Gemeinschaft Vs Gesellschaft Summary
Tonnies discusses the concepts of Community and Society in great detail, from the differences
between the two to the wills that fuel them. Perhaps the main argument in the book is the
differences between Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, or Community and Society. Tonnies defines
Gemeinschaft as a more intimate grouping of people who rely on each other and have shared goals
that places emphasis on the cohesive unit. On the other hand, Gesellschaft is the impersonal
grouping mainly found in city and urban areas. Societies are made up of people more interested in
personal goals and the places an emphasis on individualism. I agree to an extent that communities
are more personal and intimate and can foster stronger relationships within it. Communities require
people to be more dependent on each other than cities and metropolitan areas and as a result the
chances for tighter bonds are higher. However, present day Society and Community are vastly
different than the time it was written. With technology and travel, communities can grow all over
as well as virtually and can be present in a society location. Another point that Tonnies discusses is
the two different wills which fuel the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with this argument partly because it has occurred. As a result of Industrialization, in the
late 19th and 20th century urbanization has occurred. Socializing has changed and while
communities have grown in places they never could have before because communication is
different, they have also declined in the way Tonnies predicted them to. The rise of modern
capitalism has had a lasting impact on how people work and seek wealth. As a result, the ways in
which to gain them usually require a Society type of social group where the induvial is
emphasized and put first. Society has and will continue to grow as more people seek wealth and
capitalism is

Comcast Packet Forgery
Comcast Packet Forgery case in 2007 explains how network neutrality received public visibility. In
May 2007, Comcast installed a new software/tool on its networks which conveniently and
selectively interfered with some of Comcast customers TCP/IP connections. A Comcast subscriber
Robb Topolski ran a tool called a packet sniffer which was used to seed files on BitTorrent and
discovered that unexpected TCP RST packets were causing inbound connections to his computerto
die. Based on his observations, he speculated that Comcast may have been responsible for this
interference. Computers use TCP as a standard protocol to exchange information on the Internet.
When a computer receives TCP packets which it believes it should not have received or when it
thinks it has closed a connection but keeps... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many cases, the surge of forged RST packets will cause software to fail in its attempts to do
something a user asks of it. For instance, a BitTorrent client elsewhere on the Internet may fail in
downloading a rare document that is available as a BitTorrent seed from a Comcast user. In the
case of a typical Gnutella node, RST forgery will destroy the node s ability to discover and establish
proper communications with other parts of the Gnutella network. Gnutella connections are
generally started in either direction: Comcast user connects outwards, or other Gnutella nodes
connect inwards. In both of these examples, Comcast s packet forgery prevents the transfer of data
rather than delaying it. Hence, the characterization of Comcast s packet forgery as delaying certain
traffic is only true under special conditions, and is definitely not true in general. According to the
white paper two conditions that maybe considered

The Feminine Care Product Industry
Carefree was the leader in the feminine care product industry since releasing their first product,
the very first pantiliner, in 1976. In the past 20 years they ve experienced a significant drop in
market share. In 1997 they owned only 10% of the market share, which is a major decrease from
owning over half in the 70 s. In 2008 carefree launched an ultra protection line which quickly
discontinued in 2012. Carefree was formerly owned by Mcneill PPC, and is currently owned by
Energizer. Carefree is a lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors. Competition in this
industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the

Carefree really needs to make a comeback in their market, and hopeful a new ad campaign will
give them the boost they need. In my campaign I decided to incorporate some of the ideas
carefree has used in previous campaigns. With the combination of pre existing and new ideas this
ad will appeal to loyal customers and will hopefully attract new ones. I used a combination of
straightsell and testimonial execution techniques in my print ad. The consumer will get enough
information from the ad copy, and they will relate to the ad since it uses Real Women in it s
testimonial. The positioning strategy is pull, since the ad does not list price, a store location or
phone number. The appeal used in the ad is a combination of emotional and rational/informational.
A woman would not buy this product solely based on how it makes her look or feel, there needs to
be enough information present to promote the product s performance. I executed these elements in
every aspect of my advertisement. Its simple layout will appeal to consumers but not overwhelm
them, and it s down to earth slogan allows women to relate well with the product. I used a quote
that promotes confidence to appeal emotionally with the consumer, because it

Medicine And Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Medicine and Shakespeare The power of community to create health is far greater than any
physician, clinic, or hospital. (Mark Hyman). In the Elizabethan Era, most of society was
poverty stricken, which drove communities to improvise to help the sick as real doctors and
physicians were too expensive. Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the
sick, although they did not have much medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked
in professional doctors and physicians as their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving
the sick in the mercy of misconceptions. During the 16th century, society suffered from lack of
medical knowledge and ignorance to the benefit of sanitation, resulting in misconceptions of
faulty doctors that brought expansion of diseases and death. Society was deprived of the proper
sanitation that would of helped prevent most diseases that killed many. The daily routines of
commoners contributed to the extension of diseases as those routines were not very hygienic.
For example, people emptied their bodily waste into cesspits, which served as a breeding grounds
for fatal diseases (Catcher); people rarely changed their clothes as they usually only had an outfit
for each season; and peasants had to use dried leaves as toilet paper. During their menstrual cycle,
women had to use tampons and pads made up of old rags and cloths wrapped around naturally
absorbent moss (Catcher), which can lead to infections in the genitals as the

A Subarachnoid Hemorrhages
A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, or SAH, is devastating and usually has a traumatic outcome.
Basically, an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding
area is known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is
cerebral, or brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal
vessels, putting them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to
be taken lightly, as they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers
accompanied with subarachnoid hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them,
and even with life after surviving the hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage
occurs, there are many dangers to consider. While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms,
an SAH does and they are unfortunately very sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries,
the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett
describes that the immediate danger caused by subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She
states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by restricted or blocked bloodflow. The areas of the
brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen can suffer irreparable injury, leading to
permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is present from the very start with
subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). The rapid bleeding outside of the brain

Weaknesses
Columbia lacks a strategic management plan linking its resources to its market opportunities.
It lacks thorough understanding of its target market (the needs of the present and future customers).
It lacks continuous improvement in its production process in order to reduce production costs.
(Columbia s production cost is higher than that of competitors.) Opportunities
Market development: Columbia can develop new markets to sell its current products. (for example,
expansion to California, Mid Western states and international markets)
Product development: Using the plastic moulding skills, it can develop new or improved products
that will appeal to the customers (for example, improved skylights to reduce heat loss).
Threats
The competitor is cutting its price to a level that Columbia cannot match.
Columbia is steadily loosing its market share to the competitor (at a rate of 1,000 units per year).
Market and competitive analysis
Total sales of skylights are 45,000 units per year, primarily in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and
Montana. The sales of skylights have levelled off in recent years. Prior to the advent of Vancouver
Light, Columbia had about a 70% share of this market. Colombia also occasionally sells a large

Symbolism In The Scarlet Letter. Symbolism Is The Use Of
Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter
Symbolism is the use of an object, character, or event to represent something else. Nathaniel
Hawthorne, without a doubt, uses symbolism throughout the course of the novel, The Scarlet
Letter. The novel takes place in a Puritan community in present day Boston. Hester Prynne, Arthur
Dimmesdale, Roger Chillingworth, and Pearl are the main characters. They all have major roles
and without them, the novel would not be the same. Hester Prynne; married to Roger
Chillingworth, had a baby named Pearl out of wedlock with a man named Dimmesdale. Because
Hester was married, herself and Dimmesdale have now committed adultery and that is the main
cause of a lot of the major events that take place in the novel.

Since everyone knew about Hester and her transgression, she was treated as an outcast by most
which is where the lifetime of humiliation comes in. For instance, Hawthorne stated that people
saw Hester as the reality of sin and woman s frailty (Hawthorne 88). Innocent minded children
began to think poorly of Hester because of what their parents told them about her. Hester helped
the poor, and instead of treating Hester with respect and kindness, they treated her crudely and
disrespectfully. Clergymen stop Hester in the streets and use her as a sermon. Puritan women
who believe that Hester should have received a harsher punishment, give Hester vulgar gestures
and make impolite remarks. In spite of the poor treatment and loneliness, Hester stayed content
and just turned the other cheek. She was focused on her needlework and on Pearl. Hester was
even limited in her needlework, she could not embroider the white veil in which a bride wears on
her wedding day. This is because of the, ever relentless vigor with which society frowned upon her
sin (Hawthorne 92). With all of the harsh treatment and separation from society, this is why for
Hester, the scarlet letter A not only stands for adultery, but also as a lifetime of humiliation.
Now that Hester and her perception of the A has been discussed, her partner in crime Arthur

Types Of Fraud And The Healthcare Industry
TYPES OF FRAUD Healthcare fraud is costly for everybody, as it harms the reputation of the
institution or physician committing it, and financially damages the patient being affected.By
definition fraud may be defined as intentionally employing surprise, trickery, cunning, deception and
unfair ways by which one party cheats another party out of financial resources. In order to educate a
healthcare manager regarding fraud , many aspects of fraud must be assessed. This includes the
types of fraud, the consequences that come with fraud, the individual(s) committing them,
techniques to prevent fraud, and why the healthcare industry is vulnerable to fraud. As the
healthcare industry begins to expand its horizons, by featuring more staff and patients, the types of
frauds that are committed also rise in number and complexity. One of the many consequences that
derives from fraud within the healthcare system includes an increase in the cost of healthcare itself.
In order to limit and analyze fraud that encompasses the entirety of the healthcare industry, it is
necessary to assess the different types of frauds and in doing so also understand the method of
reimbursement involving the professionals and members of the health care industry. Since a
majority of these reimbursements are paid by insurances or through government programs, a
program known as coding was created in order to organize and properly pay off these
reimbursements(Marilyn Price, Donna Norris, 2009). One of the many

Mark Twain Analysis
Education may be conveyed in many formats, such as classrooms, laboratories, and books. Teachers
instruct within the classroom, while researchers and scientist utilize a laboratory setting for
instruction and education, while other forms of education derive from authors who communicate
by the written word. One well known author and educator is Samuel L. Clemens, more commonly
known as Mark Twain. Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835 and utilized his
childhood and adolescent experiences as a method of education. Mark Twain is powerfully depicted
as an unconventional educator through his books, literature, and personal quotes.
Through some of Mark Twain s books he captures much of the history in which he lived. One of
the books that he has written is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which is based upon his memories
from when he lived in Missouri (Twain, 1876). The adventures that he wrote about in this
particular book actually took place in history, giving us an insight into what it was like to live in
that time period. Another book that gave several details on the history in the 19th century was
The Prince and the Pauper, because instead of giving insight on a personal experience, it gave
insight on the class relations in which people were separated during that time (Twain, 1881). This
insight gave us knowledge on how the people were categorized by their job titles. He shows the
differences between the classes by writing about two young boys that switch

There is truth in the comprehension that the particular nation in question is an amalgamation of
several issues and just as many admirable qualities; it is the identification of the aforementioned
qualities and the understand of their relationship to each other that defines the quality of life here.
As a millennial caught in what was arguably one of the nation s more drastic transitions, the
knowledge about what is done differently awakens an awareness about how deeply the roots of
pride in America have corrupted moral values and respect for humankind. The values of both good
and bad capitalism, and to an extent, neo liberalism which is also extremely attractive to the public
because of its principle of enabling friendly competition between businesses, which permits
individuals practically unlimited levels of personal freedom, giving them the chance to create and
expand businesses and achieve what, for decades, has been called The American Dream . On top of
that, many academics have made a distinction between what they deem good and bad capitalism.
Good capitalism appears to be founded in nations of social democracy where the social costs which

The Metamorphosis, By Bartleby, The Scrivener, And...
The Importance of Identity Identity plays an important role in a person s life. It determines how a
person lives, acts, communicates, and defines themselves in the world around them. During this
semester, we have read a handful of short stories that have to do with an individual s identity. Three
of those stories include, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka; Bartleby, the Scrivener, by Herman
Melville; and Orientation, by Daniel Orozco. Each of these short stories gives examples of how
your work can influence a person s identity and attempt to remove the personal factor from
everyday life. Identity is established in a number of ways throughout each of these stories. In
the first story, The Metamorphosis, the main character, Gregor, has a moment where his
identity changes in a literal sense. Gregor is a hard working son who provides for his family as
a traveling salesman, but suddenly he wakes up one morning to find himself turned into a slimy,
and horrifying insect. As his life is dramatically altered, Gregor can only think of one thing;
work. Even as Gregor is trying to force his shell like figure out of his bed he says, Before it
reaches a quarter past seven, I must absolutely be out of bed without fail. Besides, by then
someone from the office will be sent here to ask about me, since it opens at seven (Kafka). Even
though he has transformed into a hideous monster, he is only concerned about the trouble he will
be in at work, rather than his unique situation.

The Importance Of Heat Waves In Southern California
Normal summer conditions in Southern California are dry, often with extreme heat and low
humidity level of sixty percent. California has been in a cycle of intense heat, drought, and high fire
risk. During the majority of the summer season, individuals in Southern California are at either at
an extreme caution or caution level according to the heat index. The heat index is a tool used to
convert weather temperatures into a more understandable value by accounting for humidity level
(Clements Casani, 2014). The heat index recommends adding fifteen degrees Fahrenheit when in
direct sunlight.
Heat waves are defined as prolonged periods of extreme heat (Clements Casani, 2014). According

Cooling shelters include not only providing access to public cooling spaces, but also encouraging
the utilization of such resources by the homeless. Some cooling spaces include churches,
restaurants, shopping malls, and public libraries. Access to air conditioning can greatly decrease
heat related illnesses and deaths in the vulnerable populations (Eisenman, 2016). This is critical
because there is an association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality
(Eisenman, 2016). This published study showed a negative relationship between heat related
mortality and access to cooling shelters.
It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Prevention is essential to prevent heat
illnesses and deaths. Although heat waves cannot be prevented, they can be predicted. Because of
their predictability, their impact on society can be lessesned. It is important to educate the
population regarding ways to protect themselves and prevent themselves during heat waves.
Based on the research provided, it is obvious that the physical health of homeless individuals is
considered a public health issue. With this in mind, the community project was created to provide
resources for the homeless population to prevent heat injury. This paper will

Performance Task Essay
For the past couple of years, the number of school shootings has increased. In the aftermath of these
tragedies, reporters often discover that the shooter was mentally ill. Many people believe that
mental illness refers to severe diseases such as schizophrenia but it also includes depression, stress,
and anxiety. As mass shootings become more commonplace in America, parents are concerned for
their children s safety at school. Within San Gabriel, some people say that Gabrielino High School
does not have adequate support and help for mentally ill students. They claim that any help from
Gabrielino would be useless and believe that it is not Gabrielino s responsibility to provide help for
these students. Other people believe that there are enough resources at Gabrielino to help mentally
ill students as well as sufficient awareness about this help. Through the annual Club Faire and Gab
week, these people state that students know that they can reach out and receive support. These
statements are not completely true; Gabrielino does have sufficient resources for students with
mental illness but students are not aware of this help.
Gabrielino High School has various programs that are able to support mentally ill students. The
school is unable to help severe cases of mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
because these diseases need treatment from psychiatrists. Despite this, Gabrielino

Alcohol Anonymous Research
Today, alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States (NCADD
Staff, 2017). According to the National Council on Alcohol Drug and Dependance, 17.6 million
people, or one in every 12 adults, suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence (NCADD Staff,
2017). To cope with this mass issue, several self help programs has evolved. Perhaps the most well
known and most accepted program is AA. AA stands for Alcohol Anonymous. This global program
is designed for men and women who have problems with drinking alcohol, alcohol abuseor
dependence. The association is accepting of all individuals regardless of age, race or other
distinguishing factors, and hopes to help those who wish to resolve their drinking issues.

For instance, the program may not be as effective for women because the model does not
emphasize empowerment (Traylor, 2015). Furthermore, the program is not equipped for everyone
s needs. Some individuals may need therapy and/or medical treatment, such as detox which AA
cannot provide (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Moreover, because the program emphasizes the
reliance on a higher power it can cause individuals to believe they are powerless to change without
the higher power (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Next, the anonymity of AA has led some
member to abuse other members (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Since members are subjected to
a policy to protects people s identity, many women have confessed to being sexually abused during
or after a meeting. In fact, this issue has caused the program to eliminate the thirteenth step of the
program: sponsoring (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017). Besides this, many are subjected to AA as a
result of court order. Hence, the members are not truly willing to recover. Thus, prohibiting the
growth of the other members. Not to mention, AA can cause influential people to become involved
with the wrong crowd. Since the program is community based, participants are surrounded by those
who may also be addicted to drugs. Hence, a young or influential person may get involved with
drugs through the group setting (Rehab4alcoholism Staff, 2017).In other words, AA can influence

Orion Research Paper
The constellation I have chosen to write about is Orion. This is one of the most famous
constellations in the night sky. I chose this one because as I stated, it is very famous, and
because it is one of those constellations that I have seen many times. Orion is a hunter, so the
constellation shows a man holding a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a
line that form the hunter s belt. The myth of Orion is an interesting one. Orion was known as a
hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This
greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to
shoot his arrows through the scorpion s armor, he ran into the sea to escape. During

The Enlightenment And Rousseau s Role Of Women In The...
The Enlightenment was an era when many classical ideas about culture, governance, and the laws
of nature were challenged by brilliant philosophical minds. The whole intellectual landscape was
changing and a new emphasis on reason was placed, and it was during this time that women
became more involved in public life through travel, conversation, reading and writing. (22) With
their increased involvement in the Salons and Masonic lodges that made up the public sphere, and
in essays, letters and novels, women were finally starting to be heard, and their general education
was put on the intellectual agenda as never before. (22) But despite the growing influence of female
voices everywhere in the Western world, women were still excluded from formal higher
education, (22) and the prevailing notion of women back then could be perfectly summed up by
Rousseau in his essay Duties of Women, where he explains that women are specially made for
man s delight, (569) and women will always be in in subjection to a man, or to his judgment, and
she will never be free to set her own opinions above his. (579) Even today there still isn t equality
between the sexes, but we have come a long way from the world as Rousseau describes it, and the
whole discipline of feminist studies may have never existed without the groundwork that was laid
by proud men and women alike who assert that women were more than just the property of the
husband, and were just as integral to society as their

The Fast Food Industry Has Grown Over The Past Years, And
The fast food industry has grown over the past years, and now a new type of food service has

providing quick service and great food. Since these are success stories, other gas stations have
tried to replicate these companies but have not struck the consumer as much as Wawa and Sheetz.
The consumer fanbase for each company is extreme. Fans of Wawa have been known to get the

However, both companies have been able to combine these aspects which is attractive to many
consumers. Perhaps looking at the history of both companies can lead some insight to this
transformation. Sheetz was founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and began to spread out as
primarily convenience stores. In 1972 the company had expanded to seven to fourteen stores, and
a year later Sheetz added gasoline pumps. It was in 1995 that Sheetz began to introduce
touchscreen ordering and their food and beverage products, offering high quality food at a gas
convenience store ( Our History ). Conversely, Wawa began in 1964 and was a food market, and
added more food products throughout the beginning years. The gas station aspect of the
company was not introduced until 1996, and chiefly the company provided a deli and
convenience store service. Touchscreens were installed in 2002, and the company has continued
to expand their food products while spreading along the east coast ( Wawa: 50 Years Counting ).
Interestingly, both companies started as food based and moved to provide other services over
time. This is perhaps why the companies have a passion for serving quality food, since it is in
their roots. This is common in the fast food industry, and Sheetz and Wawa have taken this service
to a new level.
Fast food providers are widespread and have large populations who flock to them. However, since

The Blind Man Raymond Carver
Raymond Carver does an excellent job of formulating the overall theme of looking without seeing.
While it is very apparent to the reader that the main character can see physical objects just fine, one
can also see that he clearly has a limit to that sight when it comes to emotional connections. As we
follow the story, we can see the narrator transform and ultimately reach a breakthrough in the end.
By using point of view, character, and symbolism, Carver is able to highlight the theme of the story.

The Role of Nick Bottom and the Significance of His Portrayal
The Role of Nick Bottom and the Significance of His Portrayal The significance and role of Nick
Bottom is made prominent by Shakespeare. This is due to the fact that the play he is in is
relevant not just to the text, but also to Shakespeare in terms of his personal life and in historical

As a result a law was passed preventing acting from taking place on the streets, as outside theatre
groups were of a poor standard. Shakespeare used this criticism in order to show that he didn t
look highly on amateur acting performing his art . This is emphasised by Shakespeare by the
way in which he portrays the mechanicals, with their incompetent acting skills. In Act four, scene
two, Bottom has a nightmare, it is the way that he deals with this nightmare which is not only
crucial to understanding the character of Bottom, but also to the social commentaries that
Shakespeare is making. He shows his fear but then turns it into a ballad, this illustrates the
power of the text to take problems and fears and convert them into comedy. This is Shakespeare
s commentary on the nature of his work and its utility, of taking fear and making hilarity; yet
another occasion when the character of Bottom shows his significance to the play. There are
several reasons why the play performed by the mechanicals is significant, to the overall play, as
well as providing an element of comedy. This is shown by the resemblance of the characters
between the plays. Pyramus and Thisbe face parental disapproval in the play within a play,
similarly to Hermia and Lysander. Both plays also have a recurrent theme of romantic confusion;

Individual Diffferences
Describe and evaluate the ways in which environmental factors can impact on the development of
an individual s personality and intelligence.
The discussion in this essay entails the extent to which environmental factors impact an individual s
development of personality and intelligence. Development can be defined as improvement in
function which would imply that it occurs with the progression of age. Personality has been found
to have a substantial genetic influence however economic and social factors have been found to
effect the development of personality traits such as stereotypes. On the other hand, the development
of an individual s intelligence has much supporting evidence stating that environmental factors such

Behavioural genetics explains the development of personality and intelligence by emphasising the
role of genes in guiding our behaviour in a particular context or environment. In today society,
children within an institution may score differently on assessments, even when the teaching
provided is the same. This questions if intelligence is innate. Other factors such as health, family
circumstances, access to technology, wealth should also be considered. Research suggest that if we
were to provide all members of a population with an environment that is uniform in regards to
intelligence, then estimates of genetic influences would increase (Brody 1992). Biological
explanations show that differences in the male and female brain suggest differences in intelligence
between the sexes. However, generalising that intelligence is based on the structures of the brain
would be an over simplification and attitudes to learning and environmental influences would give a
better understanding.
Intelligence is not simply ones IQ result but can be referred to an individual s intellectual
functioning (APA 2013). Environmental factors affecting intelligence are many such as nutrition,
education and the environment lived in as well as having an effect on religion,

Who Was To Blame The Titanic Essay
In the year 1912 a ship named Titanic set out on her first voyage, but she never made it back. The
word was that this ship was unsinkable but that was proven wrong when she capsized along an
iceberg. The ship had many people aboard; some like Ruth Elizabeth Becker survived while
others died trapped in the water. Thousands of individuals believe that the Titanic sank due to the
large iceberg that it hit, but that s not the major factor in why so many lives were lost that day.
There were many contributors (most of them being human selfishness and faults). The ship had
many indications of failure before even hitting the ice. They were warned multiple times by
neighboring ships of possible danger, passengers reacted terribly in the chaos taking the every
man for themselves approach, pride, the lower class were not seen as equals and therefore not
prioritized, and the #1 cause made by crew and passengers alike is ignorance. The crew had been
warned about the icebergs in their path but would not slow down for the sake of an image. The
ship was barely filled with water when the people had been first notified of the hit, hundreds could
be saved with such a fast notice but instead they locked a whole class of people in with the water

The Peoples Republic Of China
Chapter 1 Introduction and Methodology: The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) is engaged in a
delicate balancing act; on the one hand to continue promoting economic liberalisation, and on the
other, to maintain its communist ideological foundations. Market reform, or the transformation
from a command economy to a market economy, has been on going since The Reform and Opening
period, which was ushered in by CCP leader Deng Xiaoping in 1978. This contributed to huge social
and economic development, which has had numerous positive impacts for the State, principally,
allowing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to stay in power. However, in order to embrace
market reform, the State had to relinquish partial control on their monopoly of information. This
loosening of power occurred through easing restrictions on information allowed into China, and
relaxing controls on who could influence the market. However, the State has also adapted to
changing communication that came with market reform to stay in power. It has done this through
modifying the structure of its propaganda system throughout different eras and using political
narratives as a way to reconcile the tension between the market and State. However, the market has
also adapted to the State through influencing the information and ideas that come with changing
communication flows. Private firms have made cosmetic shifts to appear more in line with socialist
values. More importantly, mass media has created

Similarities Between Migo And Plato
In Plato s text The Republic his ideal nation is one without poetry. Plato makes the assertion that
poetry imitations reality and it takes us further, instead of closer, to the forms (i.e. truth), thus
leading to falsehood (142). Platonism in relation to Milton s L Allegro and IL Penseroso are what
makes these two poems in opposition of one another. The poem L Allegro affirms Plato belief
about poetrybecause it offers readers an illusionary and sensationalize approach to reality. Whereas,
IL Penserosorefutes this notion by bestowing on the readers a rational view, which in turn leads to
the truth.
Milton opens L Allegro Hence loathed Melancholy / Of Ceberus and Blackest Midnight born / In

its dismissal, thus he invites the Mirth and together they live in unreproved pleasures free (40).
Mirth invites the speaker into an imaginative world away from the reality that is Melancholy. After
the speaker goes with Mirth he begins to go off in a tangent about countryside life stating: And

Human Factors Affecting Your Largest Operating Expenditure
Introduction Manual order picking is still the most common way to fulfill orders from customers.
This process of order picking is highly labor intensive, repetitive and time consuming, resulting in
one of the largest organizational expenses in a warehouse environment. Traditionally, order picking
systems have been designed to limit travel time, search time, and pick time. The theory is that by
reducing travel, search, and pick time, the process should become more productive, limiting costs,
reducing errors, and being user friendly. So why design a system that is dependent on your largest
operating expenditure without taking into account various human factorswhich can lead to lower
productivity, increased errors, system constraints,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We installed new racking which enabled us to store our inventory higher than before, allowing us
to increase our product offerings. We changed our aisle configuration to decrease travel time. We
implemented a new system to locate our product which reduced search time. We configured our
layout of products so that the best sellers are on the floor which lowers our pick times. We even
implemented a new hand held scanner technology to reduce our pick errors.
With our new order picking system we were trying to increase production. During our planning of
the system, we never took into account how the human factor would affect our productivity. We
designed it to maximize our efficiency, increase pick rates, lower pick errors and be user friendly.
We did not take into account how our employee s learning curve, acceptance, and engagement
would affect the system. We realized that the system was still manual and that human error would
be a factor, but we did not fully consider the human factor in designing the system.
Question
Should human factors, which are traditionally overlooked, be more highly considered when
designing an order picking system to optimize productivity and reduce inefficiencies in a warehouse
setting? This question was reached with the help of the following PICOC:
Population Employees that pick orders
Intervention Impact of human factors on order picking

Lee Iacocc An American Business Leader
Abstract
Lee Iacocca is a businessman in the American automobile industry. He progressed up the ranks at
Ford Motor Company to ultimately become its president in 1970. He is credited with such
automotive hits as the Mustang and the Lincoln Mark III. He was fired by Henry Ford in 1978 due
to personal differences. Chrysler Corporation was in a state of near bankruptcy in 1979 and called
upon the leadership and expertise of Lee Iacocca to help save the company. Through his toughness
and perseverance, he saves the Chrysler Corporation and in the process, millions of American jobs.

Iacocca: An American Business Leader
Lee Iacocca was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on October 15, 1924. His parents immigrated
to America from Italy in the early 1900 s in search of the American dream. Lee s father was a
businessman with interests in restaurants, theaters, and a car rental agency. The car rental business
is what sparked Lee s interest in the automobile business. Lee did well in high school and was
elected president of his class in the ninth grade. After the election, he failed to stay in touch with his
constituency and lost the election in the second semester. He had forgotten the importance of
shaking hands and being friendly. It was one of his first lessons on leadership.
Lee graduated twelfth in his high school class of over nine hundred and set his sights on pursuing
engineering in college. Lee applied, and was

The Slave Journal Entry
Day 9, September 1, A.D 78. I awoke, feet sore, mouth dry. All of the sudden, I hear growling
noises! Oh... It s just my stomach, again. I exclaimed. This is how I wake up every morning on
the roads of Pompeii, my new home. My pockets empty, nothing much on me. You can tell I am
not the richest of folks, I am in fact the lowest class. Life isn t very fun being a slave but
hopefully that will change soon, currently, I am not respected, no one ever makes eye contact
with me and whenever I say hi, they just tilt up their head in a cocky way and ignore me. I am
also treated like trash and call me names push me around, I feel different. The only people who
treat me well are, the other slaves and my oar, I know, it s weird to talk to an or money... Show more

When I awoke in the middle of the night I went outside on the ledge and looked along the shore,
peaceful and quiet except for the small waves crashing ashore. As I turn my head to go back
inside I saw an orange, red flare in the night sky. It was on the volcano! Magma was oozing out
of it like an overflowing bath. I quickly ran inside and grabbed all my valuables and rushed out
the door, I stole someone s canoe (I m not sure who s). I then took my oar and pushed the boat out
with a loud grunt. It let out a loud squeak as I hopped in, I haven t been in one of these for months!
I thought to myself. It was shaking as if the earth was too, it was a struggle to get out in the water
but I made it safe, all in one piece. It was dark and gloomy and the moment had a horrifying tone
to it. I couldn t see past the surface of the water it seemed like I was on top of a layer of coal. I
tried to sleep but the rocking of the boat was against that idea so I stayed awake and waited until
morning. When the sun started to rise, a dark ashy cloud started to fill the sky, just as I thought
it was over, the horrifying feeling struck again. The sky started lighting up and let out loud roars,
lightning was upon us. Though it was morning, it felt like midnight, except, no moon, no light,
nothing except me and my boat... That suddenly changed though, along with the roaring I
started hearing cries of terror as flying cinders with a size ranging from pebbles to boulders
started plunging into the water. It was hard to notice what was going on but I knew Vesuvius
was erupting and people were dropping like flies. I tried to remain calm but it was a struggle. All of
the sudden before I knew it I was knocked out by a cinder... When I awoke I was further out but I
still had a small glimpse of Pompeii

Welfare Reform Essays
Welfare Reform
Under the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996
(PRWORA), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) replaced AFDC, ending some
Federal responsibility to welfare assistance. States operate their own programs; determine
eligibility services to be provided to needy families, within Federal guidelines. The Federal
government cannot regulate the conduct of states except to a few requirements, and states have a
wide latitude in administering the program to provide assistance to needy families so that children
can be cared for in their own homes; to reduce dependency by promoting job preparation, work and
marriage; to prevent out of wedlock pregnancies; and to encourage the formation and ... Show more

Under this Act, states are awarded for increasing the number of children below 200 percent of
poverty who reside in married couple families (Nathan Gais, 1999). This measure is based on the
theory that children in single parent homes are at greater risk than those in two parent families and
the best solution is marriage. In short, the federal government is rewarding states for encouraging
marriage, a very personal decision. How do states measure the results of having more couples
getting married?
Over the past five years, the federal government has also found it difficult to measure improvement
in states. Currently, success is based in terms of job entry rate or increases over time in job entry
rate, retention rate, and earnings gain. States may use quarterly unemployment insurance wage
records, surveys, administrative records, or a combination of those data sources. States are given
wide latitude in the sources of information they report. Also, to further distort the findings, there is
no baseline data with which to make comparisons (Danziger, 2000).
Whose interests are best served by the current welfare requirements? TANF encourages states to
provide assistance to those welfare recipients who are most likely to succeed at employment,
ignoring individuals who are harder to place. In order to show increases in employment and wage
rates, the most attention is

Countrywide Financial Crisis
Countrywide Financial, co founded in 1969 by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb became the
largest provider of home loans in the U.S., where one out of every six loans originated with
Countrywide (Olster, 2010). Countrywide found its niche providing loans to minorities, those with
less than stellar credit, and by issuing loans to low income families. Numerous families, unable to
achieve the American dream, had the capability of becoming home owners, because Countrywide
diminished the barriers preventing this group from obtaining home ownership (Ferrell, Fraedrich,
Ferrell, 2013). House America and We House America were two programs created at Countrywide
to assist low income and minority individuals with home ownership by offering lower... Show more

Bank of America, under the impression they had made an excellent business decision was unaware
of the totality involving Countrywide s loan practices. Only a small group of Bank of America s
employees were involved in the assessment of Countrywide s books and operations techniques, yet
had no input in the acquisition (Rothacker, 2014). Only a matter of time, Bank of America would
realize the magnitude of legal issues it had acquired from Countrywide. However, Bank of America,
which was much larger, had the ability to manage the negative media and confront the rising legal
troubles better than Countrywide. Ironically, in 2001, Bank of America discontinued subprime
mortgages and higher priced loans to riskier consumers (Rothacker,

Heathcliff Revenge Quotes
Wuthering Heights is a novel written by Emily BrontГ« and is considered by many to be a
straightforward and intense, love story. However, the story is truly about revenge and the
ramifications of taking action on vengeful thoughts. It follows the life of Heathcliff, a mysterious,
angry and sometimes malicious individual from childhood to his death in his late thirties. Heathcliff
becomes well loved by his dad in his adopted family, however after his adopted father s death, he is
reduced to the status of a servant and runs away when the woman he loves (Catherine Earnshaw)
decides to marry another man (Edgar Linton). He returns later, rich and educated, and sets about
gaining his revenge on the two families that he believed ruined his life.... Show more content on

Grange, Edgar really doesn t have much to worry about. Edgar seems to have a masochistic
streak, since he falls incurably in love with Catherine after she acts like a huge brat to the
servants and hits him. As Nelly puts it, he possessed the power to depart as much as a cat
possesses the power to leave a mouse half killed, or a bird half eaten (8. 87). Edgar seems to be
overly cautious around Catherine while Heathcliff continues to obsess about her. According to
Nelly, Edgar displays a deep rooted fear of ruffling her humour (10.13). Eventually, Catherine
comes to resent his patience, seeing him as less manly compared to

The perception of wine being upmarket and sophisticated is helping in bringing about this change.
One sign of this happening is the emergence of wine clubs in a number of cities. The biggest
consumption of wine (up to 80%) is confined to the major cities, of which the largest are Mumbai
(39%), Delhi (23%), Bangalore (9%) and the foreign tourist
3
dominated market of Goa (9%). With the easing of quantitative restrictions on wines after April 1,
2001, there has been an increasing interest in the Indian market by international players. However
the import duties and state taxes (which will be discussed later in more detail) remain high. They
continue to be a major impediment to the foreign entrants into the Indian market. Local Industry:
Maharashtra, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh (a recent entrant) are the three major wine
producing regions in India. Maharashtra, on the western coast of India, is the major wine
producing region, accounting for 94% of the total wine produced in the country. According to the
Department of Wine Production of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC),
the wine producing region is spread over 30,000 hectares, covering 64 wineries. During the year
2007/08 Maharashtra registered a massive growth in wine production to 21.1 million litres against
13.2 million litres in 2006/07. This was a growth of 60% over the previous year

Conflict Between Cultural And Historical Norms
Women, whether in the western world or third world countries, are socialised in patriarchal
societies where misogyny is often internalised. As a result women often make choices, which reflect
their subordinate status to keep to the norm and stabilise themselves economically and socially.
Women in countries in sub Saharan Africa, South and East Asian areas, though in differing contexts
face similar struggles of subservience and manipulation. Women accommodate, resist or adapt to the
sexist oppressive system. Those who choose to bargain with the social constructs aim to enhance
their situation, giving them more power and to some extent freedom from ideological societies that
subjugate them.
Deniz Kandiyoti, s bargaining with patriarchy offers a complex but seemingly pertinent argument
in regards to the dichotomy between society and gender specific roles. Regarding their practices as
fluid and negotiable, where societies are the product of imposition that struggle between cultural
and historical norms. Within these systems of negotiation, Kandiyoti s juxtaposes agricultural labor
and classic patriarchy. Within Sub Saharan Africa gender relations tend to favor that of males,
receiving both credit and economic stability, however it is not just the men who contribute to the
economy but that of women. Patriarchal bargaining in Africa has resulted in women s resistance to
men s absolutist power over the access and value of their work. Kandiyoti sates women have very

Improvements Of The Energy Efficiency For Cloud Computing University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Improvements of the Energy Efficiency for Cloud Computing Self Study Yuhan Wu Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering University of Waterloo Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Introduction Nowadays, with the development of technology, the demand for high speed computing for the computers increases significantly. Cloud computing is the most emphasized Information and Communications Technology (ICT) which can effectively implement high speed computing [1]. Most common products that people used in their daily life such as cloud drive and Google search are based on cloud computing, therefore it is necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high rotation speed will cause not only the dramatic increase of temperature but also the loud noise. The low energy efficiency of HDDs is due to the heat loss which is caused by high temperature, and the friction in mechanical content of discs and air. As for the SSD, the data will be stored in the flash chip through the channel of transistors, so it does not require rotating [4]. It can save a massive range of energy which HDDs will lose when HDDs are rotating. It is extremely energy efficient to use SSDs in ICT equipment because the demand for writing or reading data is increasing dramatically. The drawback is that the price of SSDs is much higher than that of HDDs, so the SSD is difficult to be widely used until the price is reasonable. In addition, improving the energy efficiency of cooling system is also effective [5]. To be specific, it is important to use right sizing cooling system, which can automatically adjust the power of cooling system [5]. The temperature for ICT equipment is variable, therefore the cooling system can increase the power while the temperature is high. On the contrary, the cooling system can decrease the power while the temperature is low. To successfully implement right sizing cooling system, the data center operators should take additional methods to measure the temperature [5]. Thirdly, the energy efficiency of server processors is also helpful for reducing energy consumption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second is define the problem, is when you have clear what is the thing that you cannot explain, also is like the question. Next, review the literature, check if everything that you are going to use is okay and if you understand so you can get to the point without problems. • 4. The Great Gatsby Argumentative Quotes 422726 Prompt 4 Comments The Hunt The human race can never be fully satisfied. There are goals everyone tries to accomplish, hopes they want to achieve, and dreams they want to fulfill. Almost all Americans want The American Dream of building up their own wealth, having the highest social status, and lastly having a picture perfect family. Throughout the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he reveals the truth behind the American dream: it is possible to build up an empire of wealth, however, Americans can never get to the highest social class unless born into it, nor can they ever have the ideal, perfect family. James Gatz through hard work and dedication turns himself into Jay Gatsby, a self made millionaire. James Gatz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gatsby will never truly be as exclusive as the other high class members due to the fact he, along with the other self made millionaires, are considered newly rich people [who] are just big bootleggers (107). East Egg is home to the prestigious residents of old money including Tom and Daisy. West Egg just across the bay is the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them, which is home to Nick and Gatsby (5). A distinction between the classes is their source of transportation. The people of West Egg drive the modern, luxury cars, Gatsby himself included, who drives a rich cream color, bright with nickel car (64), while the people of East Egg still believe horses are the best ways for transportation. Old money folk believe horses are the more prestigious way to travel; Tom being from East Egg has a string of polo ponies from Lake forest (6) giving him a sense of superiority. Gatsby [hasn t] got a horse (103) since he recently came into his money, and is more into the modern luxuries the rich have to offer such as cars. The people of East Egg look down on West Egg residents because in their eyes they are not as good as themselves. The separation between the two classes cause the American Dream of being a member of the highest social class to be unreachable for anyone including Gatsby. Not only can Gatsby not reach the American Dream of being the highest social class, he will also never achieve the American Dream of a picture perfect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Afterlife In The Odyssey Afterlife People are always questioning whether Hell and Heaven are real or not. The thought of an afterlife is something every human thinks about. In Core 3 we read many books, one being Virgil s The Aeneid, and another being Homer s The Odyssey. Both books have to do with men attempting to complete a journey. Both books involve the Trojan War and journeys across roaring seas. During each book, the men enter the afterlife with a guide to help them through Hell, and each author gives their own thoughts depicting how it might appear. This year in Core 4 we read Dante s Inferno, a book about Dante going to the afterlife guided by Virgil, a Roman poet. The authors all have some similarities in their interpretations of Hell. However, there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the stories describe what Hell might be like, just from three different perspectives. There are also differences when comparing the three. In Dante s first Canto, we learn that large beasts guard the gates of Hell and, to get up to heaven, you must pass through Hell and Purgatory. The large beasts at the front gates are similar in both Homer s and Virgil s idea of what the front gate could be like. Dante has Virgil to guide him, Odysseus did not really have a guide but Aeneas had the Sibyl. Dante, like Aeneas and Odysseus, performed rituals before he entered Hell. When Dante enters hell he is very scared knowing that very few people who are alive that ever enter Hell and also come back. In all three stories the living are not welcomed into Hell. Aeneas had the golden stick, Odysseus had permission, and Dante was allowed because Virgil acquainted him, who was helped from above. All three characters, when coming up to the gate of Hell, hear cries of the tortured souls and understand this is a place for torment. In the Aeneid, to enter Hell, you must cross a river, but not in the Odyssey. The Odyssey does mention some rivers, but does not get into detail about them. Dante is taken across this river by Cheron. He runs the ferry and takes the doomed souls across the Acheron. And according to Anderson Taylor, Gays and lesbians are minority groups in society in that they have been denied equal rights and are singled out for negative treatment by dominant groups. Women have been discriminated against throughout all of American history. There has been a lot of progress made to help achieve equality, but there is still a glass ceiling holding women down in the workplace, and women are not given the same rights and privileges of men. As a result, there has been a lot of feminist theory trying to achieve equality. Feminism has many meanings, but at the very lest, it refers to beliefs and actions that support justice, fairness, and equity for all women, regardless of their race, age, class, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. • 9. Gemeinschaft Vs Gesellschaft Summary Tonnies discusses the concepts of Community and Society in great detail, from the differences between the two to the wills that fuel them. Perhaps the main argument in the book is the differences between Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, or Community and Society. Tonnies defines Gemeinschaft as a more intimate grouping of people who rely on each other and have shared goals that places emphasis on the cohesive unit. On the other hand, Gesellschaft is the impersonal grouping mainly found in city and urban areas. Societies are made up of people more interested in personal goals and the places an emphasis on individualism. I agree to an extent that communities are more personal and intimate and can foster stronger relationships within it. Communities require people to be more dependent on each other than cities and metropolitan areas and as a result the chances for tighter bonds are higher. However, present day Society and Community are vastly different than the time it was written. With technology and travel, communities can grow all over as well as virtually and can be present in a society location. A Comcast subscriber Robb Topolski ran a tool called a packet sniffer which was used to seed files on BitTorrent and discovered that unexpected TCP RST packets were causing inbound connections to his computerto die. In the case of a typical Gnutella node, RST forgery will destroy the node s ability to discover and establish proper communications with other parts of the Gnutella network. Gnutella connections are generally started in either direction: Comcast user connects outwards, or other Gnutella nodes connect inwards. In both of these examples, Comcast s packet forgery prevents the transfer of data rather than delaying it. The consumer will get enough information from the ad copy, and they will relate to the ad since it uses Real Women in it s testimonial. The positioning strategy is pull, since the ad does not list price, a store location or phone number. The appeal used in the ad is a combination of emotional and rational/informational. • 12. Medicine And Medicine In The Elizabethan Era Medicine and Shakespeare The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic, or hospital. (Mark Hyman). In the Elizabethan Era, most of society was poverty stricken, which drove communities to improvise to help the sick as real doctors and physicians were too expensive. Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the sick, although they did not have much medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked in professional doctors and physicians as their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving the sick in the mercy of misconceptions. During the 16th century, society suffered from lack of medical knowledge and ignorance to the benefit of sanitation, resulting in misconceptions of faulty doctors that brought expansion of diseases and death. Society was deprived of the proper sanitation that would of helped prevent most diseases that killed many. The daily routines of commoners contributed to the extension of diseases as those routines were not very hygienic. For example, people emptied their bodily waste into cesspits, which served as a breeding grounds for fatal diseases (Catcher); people rarely changed their clothes as they usually only had an outfit for each season; and peasants had to use dried leaves as toilet paper. During their menstrual cycle, women had to use tampons and pads made up of old rags and cloths wrapped around naturally absorbent moss (Catcher), which can lead to infections in the genitals as the ... • 13. A Subarachnoid Hemorrhages A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, or SAH, is devastating and usually has a traumatic outcome. Basically, an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding area is known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is cerebral, or brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal vessels, putting them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to be taken lightly, as they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers accompanied with subarachnoid hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them, and even with life after surviving the hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, there are many dangers to consider. While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms, an SAH does and they are unfortunately very sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries, the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett describes that the immediate danger caused by subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by restricted or blocked bloodflow. The areas of the brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen can suffer irreparable injury, leading to permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is present from the very start with subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, Roger Chillingworth, and Pearl are the main characters. They all have major roles and without them, the novel would not be the same. Innocent minded children began to think poorly of Hester because of what their parents told them about her. Hester helped the poor, and instead of treating Hester with respect and kindness, they treated her crudely and disrespectfully. Clergymen stop Hester in the streets and use her as a sermon. Puritan women who believe that Hester should have received a harsher punishment, give Hester vulgar gestures and make impolite remarks. In spite of the poor treatment and loneliness, Hester stayed content and just turned the other cheek. She was focused on her needlework and on Pearl. Hester was even limited in her needlework, she could not embroider the white veil in which a bride wears on her wedding day. This is because of the, ever relentless vigor with which society frowned upon her sin (Hawthorne 92). • 18. Types Of Fraud And The Healthcare Industry TYPES OF FRAUD Healthcare fraud is costly for everybody, as it harms the reputation of the institution or physician committing it, and financially damages the patient being affected.By definition fraud may be defined as intentionally employing surprise, trickery, cunning, deception and unfair ways by which one party cheats another party out of financial resources. In order to educate a healthcare manager regarding fraud , many aspects of fraud must be assessed. This includes the types of fraud, the consequences that come with fraud, the individual(s) committing them, techniques to prevent fraud, and why the healthcare industry is vulnerable to fraud. As the healthcare industry begins to expand its horizons, by featuring more staff and patients, the types of frauds that are committed also rise in number and complexity. One of the many consequences that derives from fraud within the healthcare system includes an increase in the cost of healthcare itself. In order to limit and analyze fraud that encompasses the entirety of the healthcare industry, it is necessary to assess the different types of frauds and in doing so also understand the method of reimbursement involving the professionals and members of the health care industry. Teachers instruct within the classroom, while researchers and scientist utilize a laboratory setting for instruction and education, while other forms of education derive from authors who communicate by the written word. One well known author and educator is Samuel L. Clemens, more commonly known as Mark Twain. Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835 and utilized his childhood and adolescent experiences as a method of education. Mark Twain is powerfully depicted as an unconventional educator through his books, literature, and personal quotes. Through some of Mark Twain s books he captures much of the history in which he lived. One of the books that he has written is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which is based upon his memories from when he lived in Missouri (Twain, 1876). The adventures that he wrote about in this particular book actually took place in history, giving us an insight into what it was like to live in that time period. Another book that gave several details on the history in the 19th century was The Prince and the Pauper, because instead of giving insight on a personal experience, it gave insight on the class relations in which people were separated during that time (Twain, 1881). This insight gave us knowledge on how the people were categorized by their job titles. He shows the differences between the classes by writing about two young boys that switch ... • 21. The Metamorphosis, By Bartleby, The Scrivener, And... The Importance of Identity Identity plays an important role in a person s life. It determines how a person lives, acts, communicates, and defines themselves in the world around them. During this semester, we have read a handful of short stories that have to do with an individual s identity. Three of those stories include, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka; Bartleby, the Scrivener, by Herman Melville; and Orientation, by Daniel Orozco. Each of these short stories gives examples of how your work can influence a person s identity and attempt to remove the personal factor from everyday life. Identity is established in a number of ways throughout each of these stories. In the first story, The Metamorphosis, the main character, Gregor, has a moment where his identity changes in a literal sense. Gregor is a hard working son who provides for his family as a traveling salesman, but suddenly he wakes up one morning to find himself turned into a slimy, and horrifying insect. As his life is dramatically altered, Gregor can only think of one thing; work. Even as Gregor is trying to force his shell like figure out of his bed he says, Before it reaches a quarter past seven, I must absolutely be out of bed without fail. Besides, by then someone from the office will be sent here to ask about me, since it opens at seven (Kafka). Even though he has transformed into a hideous monster, he is only concerned about the trouble he will be in at work, rather than his unique situation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is critical because there is an association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality (Eisenman, 2016). This published study showed a negative relationship between heat related mortality and access to cooling shelters. It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Effects Of School Shootings On Children Eileen Tan Drew AP Literature, Per 5 10 December 2014 Performance Task Essay For the past couple of years, the number of school shootings has increased. In the aftermath of these tragedies, reporters often discover that the shooter was mentally ill. Many people believe that mental illness refers to severe diseases such as schizophrenia but it also includes depression, stress, and anxiety. As mass shootings become more commonplace in America, parents are concerned for their children s safety at school. Within San Gabriel, some people say that Gabrielino High School does not have adequate support and help for mentally ill students. They claim that any help from Gabrielino would be useless and believe that it is not Gabrielino s responsibility to provide help for these students. Other people believe that there are enough resources at Gabrielino to help mentally ill students as well as sufficient awareness about this help. Through the annual Club Faire and Gab week, these people state that students know that they can reach out and receive support. These statements are not completely true; Gabrielino does have sufficient resources for students with mental illness but students are not aware of this help. Gabrielino High School has various programs that are able to support mentally ill students. The school is unable to help severe cases of mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia because these diseases need treatment from psychiatrists. Despite this, Gabrielino ... The Enlightenment was an era when many classical ideas about culture, governance, and the laws of nature were challenged by brilliant philosophical minds. The whole intellectual landscape was changing and a new emphasis on reason was placed, and it was during this time that women became more involved in public life through travel, conversation, reading and writing. (22) But despite the growing influence of female voices everywhere in the Western world, women were still excluded from formal higher education, (22) and the prevailing notion of women back then could be perfectly summed up by Rousseau in his essay Duties of Women, where he explains that women are specially made for man s delight, (569) and women will always be in in subjection to a man, or to his judgment, and she will never be free to set her own opinions above his. However, both companies have been able to combine these aspects which is attractive to many consumers. Perhaps looking at the history of both companies can lead some insight to this transformation. Sheetz was founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and began to spread out as primarily convenience stores. In 1972 the company had expanded to seven to fourteen stores, and a year later Sheetz added gasoline pumps. It was in 1995 that Sheetz began to introduce touchscreen ordering and their food and beverage products, offering high quality food at a gas convenience store ( Our History ). Conversely, Wawa began in 1964 and was a food market, and added more food products throughout the beginning years. Interestingly, both companies started as food based and moved to provide other services over time. This is perhaps why the companies have a passion for serving quality food, since it is in their roots. In Act four, scene two, Bottom has a nightmare, it is the way that he deals with this nightmare which is not only crucial to understanding the character of Bottom, but also to the social commentaries that Shakespeare is making. He shows his fear but then turns it into a ballad, this illustrates the power of the text to take problems and fears and convert them into comedy. This contributed to huge social and economic development, which has had numerous positive impacts for the State, principally, allowing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to stay in power. However, in order to embrace market reform, the State had to relinquish partial control on their monopoly of information. This loosening of power occurred through easing restrictions on information allowed into China, and relaxing controls on who could influence the market. • 42. Human Factors Affecting Your Largest Operating Expenditure Introduction Manual order picking is still the most common way to fulfill orders from customers. This process of order picking is highly labor intensive, repetitive and time consuming, resulting in one of the largest organizational expenses in a warehouse environment. Traditionally, order picking systems have been designed to limit travel time, search time, and pick time. The theory is that by reducing travel, search, and pick time, the process should become more productive, limiting costs, reducing errors, and being user friendly. So why design a system that is dependent on your largest operating expenditure without taking into account various human factorswhich can lead to lower productivity, increased errors, system constraints,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We installed new racking which enabled us to store our inventory higher than before, allowing us to increase our product offerings. We changed our aisle configuration to decrease travel time. We implemented a new system to locate our product which reduced search time. We configured our layout of products so that the best sellers are on the floor which lowers our pick times. We even implemented a new hand held scanner technology to reduce our pick errors. With our new order picking system we were trying to increase production. During our planning of the system, we never took into account how the human factor would affect our productivity. We designed it to maximize our efficiency, increase pick rates, lower pick errors and be user friendly. We did not take into account how our employee s learning curve, acceptance, and engagement would affect the system. We realized that the system was still manual and that human error would be a factor, but we did not fully consider the human factor in designing the system. Question Should human factors, which are traditionally overlooked, be more highly considered when designing an order picking system to optimize productivity and reduce inefficiencies in a warehouse setting? This question was reached with the help of the following PICOC: Population Employees that pick orders Intervention Impact of human factors on order picking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Slave Journal Entry Day 9, September 1, A.D 78. I awoke, feet sore, mouth dry. All of the sudden, I hear growling noises! Oh... It s just my stomach, again. I exclaimed. This is how I wake up every morning on the roads of Pompeii, my new home. My pockets empty, nothing much on me. You can tell I am not the richest of folks, I am in fact the lowest class. Life isn t very fun being a slave but hopefully that will change soon, currently, I am not respected, no one ever makes eye contact with me and whenever I say hi, they just tilt up their head in a cocky way and ignore me. I am also treated like trash and call me names push me around, I feel different. The only people who treat me well are, the other slaves and my oar, I know, it s weird to talk to an or money... As I turn my head to go back inside I saw an orange, red flare in the night sky. It was on the volcano! Magma was oozing out of it like an overflowing bath. I quickly ran inside and grabbed all my valuables and rushed out the door, I stole someone s canoe (I m not sure who s). I then took my oar and pushed the boat out with a loud grunt. It let out a loud squeak as I hopped in, I haven t been in one of these for months! I thought to myself. It was shaking as if the earth was too, it was a struggle to get out in the water but I made it safe, all in one piece. It was dark and gloomy and the moment had a horrifying tone to it. I couldn t see past the surface of the water it seemed like I was on top of a layer of coal. I tried to sleep but the rocking of the boat was against that idea so I stayed awake and waited until morning. When the sun started to rise, a dark ashy cloud started to fill the sky, just as I thought it was over, the horrifying feeling struck again. The sky started lighting up and let out loud roars, lightning was upon us. Though it was morning, it felt like midnight, except, no moon, no light, nothing except me and my boat... That suddenly changed though, along with the roaring I started hearing cries of terror as flying cinders with a size ranging from pebbles to boulders started plunging into the water. It was hard to notice what was going on but I knew Vesuvius was erupting and people were dropping like flies. I tried to remain calm but it was a struggle. • 45. Welfare Reform Essays Welfare Reform Under the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) replaced AFDC, ending some Federal responsibility to welfare assistance. States operate their own programs; determine eligibility services to be provided to needy families, within Federal guidelines. The Federal government cannot regulate the conduct of states except to a few requirements, and states have a wide latitude in administering the program to provide assistance to needy families so that children can be cared for in their own homes; to reduce dependency by promoting job preparation, work and marriage; to prevent out of wedlock pregnancies; and to encourage the formation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under this Act, states are awarded for increasing the number of children below 200 percent of poverty who reside in married couple families (Nathan Gais, 1999). This measure is based on the theory that children in single parent homes are at greater risk than those in two parent families and the best solution is marriage. In short, the federal government is rewarding states for encouraging marriage, a very personal decision. How do states measure the results of having more couples getting married? Over the past five years, the federal government has also found it difficult to measure improvement in states. Currently, success is based in terms of job entry rate or increases over time in job entry rate, retention rate, and earnings gain. States may use quarterly unemployment insurance wage records, surveys, administrative records, or a combination of those data sources. States are given wide latitude in the sources of information they report. Also, to further distort the findings, there is no baseline data with which to make comparisons (Danziger, 2000). Whose interests are best served by the current welfare requirements? TANF encourages states to provide assistance to those welfare recipients who are most likely to succeed at employment, ignoring individuals who are harder to place. In order to show increases in employment and wage rates, the most attention is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countrywide Financial Crisis Countrywide Financial, co founded in 1969 by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb became the largest provider of home loans in the U.S., where one out of every six loans originated with Countrywide (Olster, 2010). Countrywide found its niche providing loans to minorities, those with less than stellar credit, and by issuing loans to low income families. Numerous families, unable to achieve the American dream, had the capability of becoming home owners, because Countrywide diminished the barriers preventing this group from obtaining home ownership (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The perception of wine being upmarket and sophisticated is helping in bringing about this change. One sign of this happening is the emergence of wine clubs in a number of cities. The biggest consumption of wine (up to 80%) is confined to the major cities, of which the largest are Mumbai (39%), Delhi (23%), Bangalore (9%) and the foreign tourist 3 dominated market of Goa (9%). With the easing of quantitative restrictions on wines after April 1, 2001, there has been an increasing interest in the Indian market by international players. However the import duties and state taxes (which will be discussed later in more detail) remain high. They continue to be a major impediment to the foreign entrants into the Indian market. Local Industry: Maharashtra, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh (a recent entrant) are the three major wine producing regions in India. • 49. Conflict Between Cultural And Historical Norms Women, whether in the western world or third world countries, are socialised in patriarchal societies where misogyny is often internalised. As a result women often make choices, which reflect their subordinate status to keep to the norm and stabilise themselves economically and socially. Women in countries in sub Saharan Africa, South and East Asian areas, though in differing contexts face similar struggles of subservience and manipulation. Women accommodate, resist or adapt to the sexist oppressive system. Those who choose to bargain with the social constructs aim to enhance their situation, giving them more power and to some extent freedom from ideological societies that subjugate them. Deniz Kandiyoti, s bargaining with patriarchy offers a complex but seemingly pertinent argument in regards to the dichotomy between society and gender specific roles. Regarding their practices as fluid and negotiable, where societies are the product of imposition that struggle between cultural and historical norms. Within these systems of negotiation, Kandiyoti s juxtaposes agricultural labor and classic patriarchy. Within Sub Saharan Africa gender relations tend to favor that of males, receiving both credit and economic stability, however it is not just the men who contribute to the economy but that of women. Patriarchal bargaining in Africa has resulted in women s resistance to men s absolutist power over the access and value of their work. Kandiyoti sates women have very little ...
