Hello, and welcome to the 12th annual NARI
Tour of Remodeled Homes.
This event offers you an opportunity see
first hand what results can be achieved
when homeowners have hired professional
remodelers.
Whether you are planning to stay in your
existing home, or are looking to move into
new surroundings, you will be exposed to the
countless ideas that are available. Ninety percent of the homes that
we live in today will be in existence for generations to come, and it is
important to maintain and improve our homes.
This tour will give you the opportunity to experience a true “before
and after “ transformation of simple room renovations to whole house
makeovers. It also gives you a chance to meet the designers and
appreciate the craftsmanship that is part of the remodeling process.
You will have a chance to hear from the team that helped guide the
project from an idea to the finished product, and understand some of
the decisions that are made along the way.
No matter what size or scope of a project you have in mind, the chance
to walk through and witness some of the latest trends and ideas that
are available should be inspiring.

PROJECT
This 1925 Plymouth Faux Bungalow™ was purchased with the intention of doing
something to improve its livability and curb appeal, “but what?” was the question.
The clients went through an exhaustive search for a firm who could meet their needs,
nearly giving up before they found Cowdin Design + Build. We took their ideas,
sketches, dreams, and budget to create an entirely new 2nd story as well as a small
1st floor mud room addition while maintaining a home modest in scale.
The project started with moving the staircase, for a twofold solution of an efficient
2nd floor plan as well as allowing the creation of an open den off the existing kitchen
with the new mud room. The master suite is stunning, including a luxurious five piece
bathroom, huge walk-in closet and covered private coffee deck.
Unique details, like a single skylight brightening three separate rooms, heated tile
floors, and a smart lighting layout make this a project the clients love to live in.

PROJECT
When you walk up to our project home please take a look at the large
front porch, look at the two story construction, look at the James
Hardie siding, but most importantly look at the houses on either side.
They are twins of the way this house looked before we started.
Entering the home you walk into the two story great room and dining
area, looking up you see the balcony that spans across the area, and
to the right is the kitchen with a large island. As you walk through
the house you will see an owner’s suite and so much more.
You’ll just have to see it for yourself. Oh yeah, and if all this doesn’t
entice you, maybe you should come look at the paper towel holder!

St, turn right. Turn left onto Linden St, then a slight right to follow

PROJECT
With a love for entertaining but discomfort with their dated kitchen, this
homeowner was strongly encouraged by several friends and neighbors to consult
with Designer + Remodeler Bob Royston of Royston Design + Contracting. In
collaboration with Jennifer Imamura /The Velvet Plum, a new kitchen and
family room design was imagined, to open the home and once again wine
and dine with good friends and family. Exquisitely finished custom cabinetry
and double-layer, leathered granite countertops surround a kitchen full of
professional grade appliances including a magnificent limestone exhaust hood.
All placed atop a natural hard wax hardwood floor to add a rustic, yet beautiful
contrast. This kitchen and family room complement each other so well, you’ll
want to be on the next invite list for dinner!

southeast corner of Beck and Ann Arbor Trail. Enter off Ann Arbor Trail onto

Kitchen, Fireplace, and Powder Room Remodel

PROJECT
Our clients were looking to recreate their kitchen into a room fit
for cooking gourmet meals and entertaining. Woodland custom
cabinetry offered an affordable yet upscale option. Ivory-painted
base and upper cabinets were finished with a chocolate glaze around
the perimeter of the doors to give a distinct antiqued look and are
topped by light white birch granite. Two sable-stained islands topped
with the same white birch granite offer a bold contrast to the light
cabinets and feature a beverage refrigerator, a microwave drawer
and additional storage space. These modern updates make this the
perfect room for this modern working family.

Kitchen Remodel
PROJECT
Our clients were looking to improve their kitchen in a number of ways.
They wanted to open the kitchen to the dining room, increase the
amount of natural light and improve the mudroom and entry sequence.
Our solution was to relocate the laundry room to the second floor to
create a dedicated mud room with shoe and coat storage. We also
enlarged the kitchen window and added a new cabinet layout that
features a large island with seating, a coffee bar, tall cabinet storage
and a pass through to the dining room over the cooktop.

Maintaining the architectural integrity and quality of
craftsmanship of this 1927 Tudor-style home was first and
foremost in adapting it to meet the needs of the 21st century
family. This home had wonderful bones, but the segregated
spaces that were originally desirable when the home was built,
made the home dark and disconnected. Moving and opening up
doorways and passageways, a complete energy upgrade, and the
addition of a laundry room and an attached garage, has opened
up the home to more light and created modern, functional
spaces that will allow its occupants to live comfortably long into
