Schedule computation or schedule communication helps to optimize utilization and keep running
time low. Several works propose to improve job scheduling by preserving data locality maintaining
fair allocation among multiple resource types or discarding time consuming tasks. Even with
optimal computation scheduling, the cluster network can still become a blockage. The optimization
of network transfers can be done by improving the flow bandwidth allocation or by dynamically
changing paths in response to demand. These approaches need accurate and timely application
demand information, obtained either from the application itself through instrumentation, which is
quick and accurate but intrusive, or from the network through monitoring , which does not require
application involvement, but can be expensive, slow, and detects changes in demand only after they
have occurred.
FlowComb also uses MapReduce framework to influence the design of the system. MapReduce
provides a divide and conquer data processing model, where large workloads are split into
smaller tasks, each processed by a single server in a cluster (the map phase). The results of each
task are sent over the cluster network (the shuffle phase) and merged to obtain the final result
(the reduce phase). The network footprint of a MapReduce job consists pre dominantly of traffic
sent during the shuffle

3. Converse College Essay
Converse College is a private college that realized that high tuitions were creating serious problems
for current and potential students to enroll in private colleges. Therefore, Converse was given the
task of motivating middle class students to have the experience of studying in private schools.
CHOICE 1: Reset tuition to a significantly lower price for traditional undergraduate students.
PROS:
Being pioneers in this new business model is an attractive opportunity to stand out from the crowd
as the steady increase in the tuitions in higher educations is a national concern. Therefore, more
students and prospects may be interested in Converse College.
Based on the forecast of increase in tuition fees that Converse College has established, students
could be able to save a considerable amount after a few years. Therefore students would ... Show

PROS:
Certainly, when frizzing student s tuition, they and their families would be sure that their tuition
would not face annual increases.
In addition, this proposal would be attractive to students and cause increased enrollment of middle
class students.
CONS:
A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the
school has increases in operating costs every year. Therefore, the college has to generate additional
profits to offset these costs.
In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would
still require payment. Therefore the cycle of annual tuition increases would start again but now in a
more accelerated manner.
CHOICE 3: Provide students with Loan Repayment Program (LRP), which guarantees that any
student without employment after college would have her loans covered by an insurance policy.
PROS:
This program would alleviate the financial burden for graduate students who have difficulty finding
work and paying their

4. Morgana And Merlin Alternate Ending
She tilted her head to stare at Merlin. You saved my life from that monster twice. I thought it
was my own uncontrolled magic that caused his knife to burn in his hand and I was so terrified
Uther may have seen what happened that I never tried to reason out what really went on. It
never made sense for that horrible man to cough up a toad when the woman s story had already
been denounced as a belladonna induced vision, and besides it was suicide to do such a thing in
front of Uther. Other facts fell into place. You conjured a smoke illusion in front of witnesses, then
used magic in full view of both Uther and Arthur to make Aredian drop his knife only days after
the witchfinder accused you of sorcery. She shook her head. And you call me... Show more content

She should have seen then that the obnoxious prince was becoming a man who would question his
father s methods, his judgements, and demand fairness instead.
Morgana s thoughts went back to that incident as she and Merlin sat down to supper later. The
lateness of the hour combined with an extended period of using magic had left them both ravenous
and Essetir may be far from a wealthy kingdom but she could set a fair enough table for two.
At the time that Arthur called a halt to Gaius s execution, coolly postponing his father s judgement
over Aredian s vehement protests, and then demanded another hearing in front of the king, Arthur
s boldness had surprised her. Not that she had ever doubted his courage, but it was the first time
she saw him openly oppose his father without any prompting from her. Morgana had not so much
as spoken one word to Uther about Gaius; too afraid to leave her room, too afraid everyone would
see her terror and guess its cause. It had been Arthur who demanded justice.
She spent a long time choosing a portion of chicken basted in mint to put on her plate, trying to
frame the question she wanted to ask. Why did you trust Arthur to be the king he is? To build a

The first reason reason is because it s fun the reason it s fun is because first of all you are

second reason.
It s also competitive because it s a tough sport and requires you to be on top of your game and also
requires you to be very athletic. sometimeS you gotta push yourself and try hard to succeed at it.

In Frank Romero painting Going to the Olympics, 1984. Im going to be telling you guys what
kind of mood his painting was and how it transformed over time. In my opinion on Frank
Romero s painting means that we love our cars and our cars mean a lot to us. I say this because
our cars get us to places we like to go. In his painting he drew some cars and painted a heart on
top of each car. In the other image it basically shows his painting didn t mean anything to other
people because years later they tagged on his painting. Also in the other image they covered his
painting with another layer of cement. In this paragraph I m going to be talking about how
Frank Romero might feel about our city s car culture and also about the mood of the painting.
Frank might love his car a lot because that s what his painting symbolizes and his painting means
a lot to him but not only to him , maybe it also means a lot to other people. The mood in this
pictures feels like he was very happy because of the hearts and of the colors. The bright colors
shows a lot because most likely bright colors symbolizes happiness. Also it seemed like he loved
his painting and i say this because when he saw that they covered his painting he got upset.... Show

Bi Partisan Concern
When it comes to political issues people often think, whether someone is a Republican or
Democrat, that politicians have to back their parties legislation no matter what, and that
politicians despise each other if someone is not of the same party affiliation as them. In some
cases this could be true; however, everything is not always black and white, and there are a lot of
gray areas when it comes to some issues. With certain matters, Republicans and Democrats can lay
their differences aside and come together for a cause; human sex trafficking just so happens to be
one of those concerns. Along with multiple other pieces of bipartisan legislation that has been

GUN VIOLENCE IN THE US
Against The Violence of Guns
In today s society, so many people have hidden guns in their homes, whether it s for protection or
for hunting or any reason and some of these people turn up in the news because their children
somehow got to their gun. News all over the United States cover cases where bullied children or
misunderstood children walk into a school with loaded guns and knowing exactly how to operate
them and have the heart to kill many of their classmates. Often the case, the parents of these young
children had no idea these children even knew where their guns were. In other cases, it is very
easy to find a place where you can purchase a gun without state permit nor prior registration,
facilitating the purchase of these guns. All over the world, guns are as simple to find as gum,
and keeping one around your home is as safe as it is dangerous because it isn t about who has a
gun, its about what they can do with it. Although everyone s reason for owning guns is for safety
only, there are different methods of protection that are safer than having a gun that can cause more
damage than safety, and also many reasons not to own one at all.
Throughout US History, there has been many amendments put in place that have put peoples lives
in danger. The 2nd amendment talks about how people have the right to keep a gun in their house
for a security reasons. This amendment gave way for the militias, who are groups of people who
protected their towns,

10. Similarities Between Adam And Eve And Virgin Of The Rosary
Lauren Lavergne
Ms. Beltran
AP Art History 3
Due 1 November 2017
Adam and Eve and Virgin of the Rosary both have their roots set in religion. Adam and Eve is
one of the oldest stories in the world. The Virgin of the Rosary depicts one of the icons of the
Christian religion who beared the savior of the world Jesus Christ. Both pieces tell a story,
different but connected. The bible connects these two pieces both stories of creation. Both
represent the start of a new world of sorts. Adam and Eve Virgin of the Rosary
Adam and Eve by Albrecht Durer (1507) depicts the story of Adam and Eve reimagined with new
meanings and with artistic changes. Adam and Eve are standing together in a forest that seems to
be far removed from the Garden of Eden and seems to be German and seems to eerily resemble a
Grimm fairy tale. Even though the forest seems to be cold Adam and Eve stand naked, and stand
in a classical pose (where the person puts their weight onto one foot). The piece represents
naturalism, Eve is taking an apple from a tree. A parrot is perched to the left of them. There are six
other animals that stroll around without any interest in what is going on, the six animals are; an
elk, ox, cat, rabbit, mouse, and goat. The sign hanging from the branch that Adam is holding onto
has a contradiction within itself. The piece shows the artist as a citizen of Nuremberg (Noricus), but
it says so in Latin, the Latin language represents the

11. The Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution
Following the Second World War, complications arose centering on the shifting of international
power. The Soviet Union wanted to acquire additional territory, while the United States attempted to
limit the gains desired by the soviets. This battle of ideology has resulted in an increase in National
security, Diplomatic tension and Proxy wars between the two powerful nations. For over three
hundred years, Russiahad been controlled by an autocratic government known as the tsarist
regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over the country.
(BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its will
on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force caused
repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an outburst
from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two separate strikes
in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike which placed
the Bolshevikparty in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic transformation to
the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took power over
Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which proved vital for
Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to the country s
development. Today, in modern history we

12. Phaedo Research Paper
Phaedo One of the final discussions that Socrates goes of is the journey people take after death.
When Socrates takes on this philosophical topic it leads into the description of the soul. In the
book, Plato Five Dialogues, translated by G. M. A Grube, Phaedo gives an account of this
discussion. Now the question that we want to discuss is, what is the soul according to the
Phaedo ? What makes this a hard question is that Socrates never directly answers this question.
Although, according to the account that the Phaedo provides, this paper will argue that the soul
is the source/essence of true knowledge. To show this, we will go over three different ideas. First
we will go over how the soul and the body are separate. Second we will go over... Show more

The reason that this is important is because it shows that the soul has all pure knowledge and
when we are born we just forget it until something reminds us of that piece of knowledge.
Socrates explains this by using an example of seeing something that reminds a person of a
different thing. The example that Socrates uses is the example of sticks and stones. One person
may think that a stick or stone look equal, but another person may view them as unequal. This is
important because the sticks and stones may not be equal, but we are reminded of equality even
though there is no equality we have the idea of the true form of equality. Phaedo states, We must
then possess knowledge of the Equal before that time when we first saw the equal objects and
realized that all these objects strive to be like the equal but are deficient in this (Pg. 113). Socrates
explains that this knowledge had to come from somewhere and it must have been in a past life.
These arguments show us that that Socrates thought that the soul is the source or essence of true
knowledge. Even though Socrates does not directly answer the question of what the soul is we can
see that he considers the soul is the source or essence of true

ROMANIA
Topic 1: State sponsored description based on sexual orientation
Description about Romania
Although Romania was originally a part of the Ottoman Empire, several principalities gained their
autonomy and then united to join the Axis powers. The greatest impact on Romanian people came
from Soviet occupation of the Eastern bloc, which caused an establishment of communism as the
main government ideology and led to slow economic growth during the 20th century, a time of
rapid industrialization and growth for many nations across the globe. Today, Romania is a member
of both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU). Situated
between Bulgaria and Ukraine, it is home to one of the sputtering economies in the region, which is
based on manufacture of industrial capacity machinery and chemicals to other trade partners such
as Germany and Italy. Romania also boasts one of the largest labor forces in the world. One major
issue with Romania is its problem with drugs, as it serves as a conduit for laundering through
government officials and financial institutions.
Overview of the topic
In the past two decades, the rapidly expanding trend among countries has been towards decrease in
human rights allegations against LBGT people. With the emergence of regional government
institutions to keep the problem in check and the increasing accessibility of international courts to

15. Behavior and Relationship Observation
Behavior observation Conformity is a general concept that refers to changing one s behavior
which is caused by another person or group.in other words it results to someone acting in some
way due to the influence they got from others (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). For the
purpose of this paper, I have made the assumption that the people I am observing are a couple
taking into account the preformed ideas of how couples do behave. I have also made an
assumption that that they are in a love relationship and they are married. For people who are in a
relationship they have to try and understand each other. They also have to conform their behaviors
according to their partners so that they can understand each other more in the relationship.
Conformity is not an easy concept especially when one is required to make major behavior
changes in their lives. Therefore there are pre conformity behaviors that could be observed in the
man before he fully demonstrated a conforming behavior. The pre conforming behavior was such as
constantly forgetting what he was expected to do since this was a relatively new thing for him.
There were instances where he totally forgot or did what was expected of him halfway without
completion. There are several types of conformities which include; normative conformity.
Normative conformity involves an individual changing their behavior so that they can fit well into
a particular group (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). Normative influence comes

The message of the song Just the way you are by Bruno Mars is that no matter what you think of
yourself, never attempt to put yourself down and always believe that you are beautiful, Just the

Mars use of personification which he uses since occasionally, when you personify a situation, it
gives the non humanly object a more humanly meaning, and it also causes it sound more
interesting and engaging. For example, in the third stanza, Mars says, Her laugh, Her laugh/ She
hates but I think it s so sexy . As well as in the Chorus, he says, The whole world stops and stares

When he says, Her lips, her lips/ I could kiss them all day if she d let me. He is exaggerating this
point considering he cannot actually kiss her the entire day, as every human is compelled to eat,

kiss them all day long if he could. Also he is saying that, her eyes make the stars look like they re
not shining. He is saying this due to the fact that he considers her eyes more beautiful than the
stars and that they shine brighter so he is exaggerating that he doesn t even need to glimpse at
the stars as long as he has his girlfriend s eyes, as they are the best things to stare at. This proves
the message because his girlfriend keeps asking him throughout the song if she is extremely pretty
or if she looks okay, but Bruno Mars himself, says that she is perfect no matter what and she

HOME AREA NETWORK
A Home Area Network is an interconnection in which some networking devices are connected with
each other for sharing resources between them with the help of internet. The main advantage of
Home Area Network is that you can share different type of content i.e. videos, audios etc. among
different users. A computer with large storage memory can be used as server which can be
easily accessed by the clients and users can easily access the data whenever they wanted to
access. As in Home Area Network everything i.e. Resources, Data, Information etc. is shared so
each user can use devices like Printers, Scanners which will be very cheap. Also another main
advantage of Home Area Network is that there is no need to buy several different Public IP Address
s for different devices, administrator of network can only have single Public IP Address and assign
this public IP address to a modem or a router, while a modem or a router in turn assigns a private IP
address to each device to access the internet.

18. Modern Tragedy Analysis
Is Modern Tragedy Truly Tragedy?
(A critique of Stephen King s inspired movie The Green Mile as it relates to Aristotle s Poetics)
Tragedy is an imitation, not of men, but of an action and of life, and life consists in action, and its
end is a mode of action, not a quality (Butcher). Aristotle says that tragedy has more to do with the
action of the plot than the characters themselves. Tragedy is best defined as a drama that
includes a clear plot line and a protagonist who has a character flaw that leads to his or her
downfall. Character flaws occur in many ways, for some it is excessive pride, for others it is just
the need to be kind to others and disregarding a person s own health. The major difference between
a tragedy and a comedy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tragic hero, consequently, should be a man better than ourselves, but not perfect; and he
should suffer from a flaw which shows itself in some mistaken judgement or act resulting in his
downfall (Poetics Packet). While it may not seem like a flaw, Coffey s character flaw is that he
has some sort of supernatural healing power which, in a way, got him into the death row area of
prison to begin with. Coffey performs an act where he touches ill people and for whatever
reason, the person is cured, and Coffey coughs up insects that represent the negative things
leaving a person s body as the individual heals. As the movie wraps up, Paul and various other
guards are aware of John s innocence, yet there is no evidence so he will have to be put to death
regardless. Throughout the movie, men are put to death and the audience can see just how
gruesome that is, yet people often feel little remorse or pity for the first several executions in the
movie. The thing that is so emotional about John Coffey s execution is that the viewers are aware
he is being put to death even though he is innocent. Virtually no one feels the urge to execute an
innocent man, but many feel the urge to execute someone who is guilty (Dow). That is a highly
accurate statement, the majority of people have no issue killing a guilty person, but the real

19. Civil War Music
Civil War Music Music was a vital part of the war. The Civil War had also been referred to
America s great musical war. There was a rank for musicians. They played at recruitment rallies
and kept up the troops morale. Their main job was to relay orders from higher ranking officers.
The branches of the military determined which instrument made the calls. The drummer boys,
fife players, buglers and the songs that they performed played a significant part in the war.
Drummer boys enlisted to serve in the infantry. These boys were usually eighteen years old, but
younger boys sometimes faked their age to enlist. They learned to relay orders to help soldiers
during battle by sounding a call, which is a short tune with an assigned job or order. They had to
go through meticulous training because they had to make the correct calls. With the battlefields
covered in gun smoke, the soldiers relied on the drummer boys to sound the orders. If their calls
were incorrect, they could confuse the soldiers or even give them the wrong orders. In addition
to this, drummer boys had to make calls in camp. Some of the common calls were morning roll
call, sick call, guard duty and taps. Being a drummer boy was only one of the different types of
musicians that had these responsibilities. Musicians that play fife, commonly called fifers,
marched alongside drums in battles. A fife is like a piccolo. It is also similar to a flute, but it has a
much higher range. The fife was useful

21. Describe The Process Of Progress In The United States
What is progress? This is the question that has been raised frequently during our class
discussions in the past few weeks. The truth is the definition of progress varies from person to
person. Progression to some may be set backs to others. The New England colonies were a major
progression for the settlers that escaped religious prosecution. There, they flourished in a new
land. The Native Americans might not have seen this as progress though, because the settlers
were taking over their land. The same could be said for the word, development . For the sake of
this essay, my definition will be, the process of growth. Just like progress, it has an ambiguous
definition that can have good or bad consequences. The land and the people in North America

It is very important to analyze the evolution that has taken Latin America because many countries
have made lobbying and plan strategies that have served to encourage better structure and have
significant growth in this area, though often stagnate countries and are limited in their development.
This will be to analyze the case of Nicaragua, where Sandino was a critical piece representing a key
to liberation and democracy in their country, in addition to being a hero to the entire population.
As time and watch the victories of Sandino, Nicaragua was formed within the Sandinista National

24. The Limit Point Of Capitalist Equality
In the pursuit of equality many different attempts have been made to obtain this quality including
protests and laws or legal acts. However, no matter how many legal regulations are instituted, or
protests are held, true equality has never been accessed, and will never be accessed until there are
significant changes made to the ideology and mindset of the citizens of this country. Both Chris
Chen and Christine Delphy who advocate for raceand genderequality respectively, are two authors
who believe that these radical changes must be made to create equality in society. They each
give similar yet different ways to alter the mindset of modern society. In her essay Rethinking
Sex and Gender, Delphy states that in order to truly gain equality among the sexes, we have to
eliminate the idea of gender altogether. On the other hand, in his essay The Limit Point of
Capitalist Equality, Chen argues that to eliminate racial inequality we need to change our
mindset and stop defining race as physical or cultural qualities that distinguish us, or thinking of
it as a noun, and start thinking of race as the institutional roadblocks put in front of people of
color, or as a verb. Both of these alterations can seem very drastic at face value, and would in fact
be undesirable to many. However, once some of the ideas of Chen and Delphy are superimposed
upon one another, they illuminate how each one can be applied to, and work in society. Also once
these ideas are used consecutively, they

25. The Fleeting of Social Status Essay
Historically it has been viewed that one s place in society is fixed. This concept included the
notion that not only was it impossible for one to move up in society, but also that it was difficult
for one to move down the social ladder. The American dream, of course, promotes the idea that one
can move up in the social ladder. However, many fail to realize that one can plummet from highest
social classto the bottom, without even realizing how or why. John Cheever s The Swimmer,
examines and reveals this problem through conflicts of attitude between the narrator and the
viewpoint character, Neddy Merrill. The narrator conveys the attitude that social status is fleeting
through the use of irony and shifts in time. Neddy s attitude,... Show more content on

For example, Neddy does not remember a neighbor s surgery and does not remember selling his
house. An additional concept of time that Cheever distorts has to do with the weather. The reader
is told that this swim across the county begins on a warm summer day, however, there are
numerous instances where the weather is not consistent with this initial description. At one point a
storm rolls through during Neddy s journey, The rain had cooled the air and he shivered. The
changing weather, specifically cool rain, is not consistent with the journey taking place in a days
time. The reader senses that the amount of time that has passed during the swim could be even
more than days or months, but even years since Neddy began his adventure. The narrator has
contrasted Neddy s fixed time, with reality s time moving forward in order to show that life can
pass us by.
Neddy Merrill, on the other hand has a completely different attitude toward social status. The
whole point of Neddy s swim is an attempt to prove that he is still an important figure in society. He
was not a practical joker nor was he a fool but he was determinedly original and had a vague and
modest idea of himself as a legendary figure. Neddy is clearly in denial and does not accept the fact
that he is no longer the important, wealthy man he once was. This point is made painfully apparent
when Neddy swims through the Halloran residence. Mrs. Halloran bluntly states that they had

26. Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to determine the
unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a
standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1
HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl
sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of
deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pHprobe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results
were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the
solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another
throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence
point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00
mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP
and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined
by looking at the equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH .

Literary criticism is an informed written analysis and evaluation of a literature. Also literary theory
is a means to understand the various ways people read and connect through texts. In the novel, To
Kill A Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee, the story displays archetypal criticisms through using
multiple archetypes within the work. This criticism displays how reoccurring symbols, situations,
and themes help develop the story. Throughout the novel, the archetypes being the hero, victim,
and the tree as a symbol for friendship are used. The hero archetype is reflected numerous times in
TKAM. One character who shows heroic traits is Scout when the text states, Jem shrieked and

a victim because he suffered from the statements that Bob Ewell said and was cheated. Although
he is against white people who have their stories wrong and filled of lies, he is the one who loses
the case when this should not have been what occurred. As a result of this, it causes him to be
sent to prison where he later kills himself. This is due to the fact that this ruined his emotional
state which led to the build up to his death. Similarly, Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by
people such as Miss Stephanie Crawford whose rumors say, As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo
drove the scissors into his parent s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed
his activities (Lee 13). Boo is a victim because he is deceived. Since not much is known about
him, the town of Maycomb spreads rumors, which lead to false impressions about him. Also, he
suffers by how he is perceived because this leads for him to not come out and face all of the
prejudice within Maycomb. Most importantly he is emotionally hurt because in the beginning of
the story Jem and Scout are curious about him and want to see him when he does not want to be
with anyone at all. Likewise, Jem is a victim as he was being helped from the encounter with
Bob when he was with Scout because it was seen that, Jem s arm was dangling crazily in front of
him (Lee 353). As Jem and Scout are coming back, Jem is mainly a victim since he is physically

Growing up, many have experienced that flawless relationship, whether it involves being a

us such extreme hopes as to what to expect when it came time for dating to become a part of our
lives. Sadly, once that time had arrived, dating made an unexpected turn for the worst.
Relationships tend to be dishonest. Having gone through a relationship, I understand what it is like
to be involved in a relationship like so with the person I once thought I could trust. Because I was
proven wrong, involving myself in another relationship, especially this early, is going to be really
rare. Having conversed with some friends who have gone through the same instance, they say that
they will probably not jump into another one until their career is set and their life is intact. The
dishonesty is mostly associated with not being told where or who the significant other is with or
just blatantly lying about it and saying they re somewhere they aren t. That idea of dishonesty tags

When examining this issue through an economic lens, one can see that there are many negative
implications of the U.S. maintaining a military presence in Okinawa. The article, Okinawa: Effects

of the total funding towards U.S. bases, leading to the sum of an estimated $100,000 contribution

base removal in Okinawa may not be feasible, a plausible solution to this conundrum is for the
U.S. to partially remove their presence from Okinawa. Japan would still have some military
protection, but would not suffer the economic strains posed by the current level of U.S. military
presence. A primary concern of this solution is that the U.S. would lack a presence in the Asian
Pacific region. To address this concern, the U.S. army could relocate their army to Guam. Guam
is a U.S. territory, unlike Okinawa which belongs to Japan. An argument against this solution is
that the U.S. would have to pay extreme amounts to rebuild bases and support their armed forces
in Guam. The Russian International Television Network article, Guam, Marianas brace for
massive U.S/ military redeployment, asserts, More than a third of the estimated $8.7 billion cost
of building the new facilities for the Marines is being funded by Japan, according to McClatchy

36. Reflection On Human Sexuality
This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to
think about myself as incredibly open minded and well rounded when it comes to understanding the
different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to
this class s guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSMcommunity that I had
previously been blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia
/technical standpoint, I wasn t aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I
could have expected that BDSM would have it s own community, but, since it is outside of my
realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My
simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a
professional submissive for a few years prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions
because I felt that it would be too personal or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is
why I am so glad that we had guest speakers for this topic in class. When I was reading this
chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it
definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and
particularly the people that practice these aspects of sexuality. Having a guest speaker come in

38. The Lessons Learned From Park Play
Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to
what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens
the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the
more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that
parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life
like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become
well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re
believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what
sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually
watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of
having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that
government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings
needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could
benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club
teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in
a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I

39. Resistance To Change In Fahrenheit 451
The Resistance to Change in Fahrenheit 451
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, multiple abstract and concrete ideas are represented. Those ideas
include the use of the outsiders to represent the old society, the use of the mechanical hound to
represent the resistance to change, and the use of the atomic bomb to symbolize a new reality.
However, these specific examples of representation within the novel are highlighted due to the fact
that they together compose an allegory.
Within the novel, three main societies are expressed through the representation of various
groups or characters. An old society, a middle society, and a new society are all expressed in the
book. The old society is allowed to read and possess literature. The middle society has banned
literature in order to prevent anyone from being unhappy and disagreeing with it. As one essay
written by Timothy E. Kelley expresses, the middle society are a people, who willingly give up
their right to be happy in favor of protection from ever being unhappy (Kelley n.p.). The new
society does not appear in the book, but is instead being created.
The old society is represented by the group of outcasts that the main character Montag meets in the
third part of the novel after escaping the city. The outcasts have refused to accept the change that
the middle society as instituted instead choosing to leave their homes as they were unable to safely

An Analysis of The Harlot s House
Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the Victorian era.
This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s
perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in,
then out again.
The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house
(Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house
depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the

The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that
these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3).
The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music
and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another
reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but
rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable.
The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a
time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a
wanton, rule free lifestyle though.
This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood
but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured
of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to
enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as
Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067).

father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

order of heaven and once they lost it another dynasty would take its place. Confucianism grew to be
a big inspiration on the political state of China, like it became a highly centralized and bureaucratic
government. People gained government offices by earning them through passing the civil service
exams, which were based on Confucian classics.

43. Courage And Cowardice Quotes
Speaking of Courage and Cowardice...
The subject of courage and cowardice is brought up quite a few times in Tim O Brien s novel The
Things They Carried. O Brien elaborates on both the concept of cowardice, and the concept of
courage, and even brings examples of cowardly actions, and courageous ones. Although, something
that is notable in his description of courage and cowardice is that he doesn t draw a clear line
between the two. In fact, author contradicts himself, since he indirectly hints that courageous act,
might as well be the cowardly one.
They carried the common secret of cowardice barely restrained, the instinct to run or freeze or
hide, and in many respects this was the heaviest burden of all, for it could never be put down, it ...

I wasn t very brave. You have seven medals. Sure. Seven. Count em. You weren t a coward either.
According to this episode the fact that Norman couldn t save Kiowa wasn t cowardice. So, it s
not always necessary that running away is cowardice, or courage, or anything at all. It s simply
an act of turning away from something. However, Norman says that he wasn t very brave ,
meaning that he would be brave had he saved Kiowa. Once again, even though this time it seems
like cowardice or courage has nothing to do with doing something or running away, it s obvious
that going for something, be it saving someone s life, or going to the war, should be the brave
thing to do. So, the idea that running away is courageous as author stated earlier is, once again
challenged, by Norman Bowker s

Remembering Rumblefish
Rob Sheffield is former radio D. J., as well as an editor and columnist for the Rolling Stones
magazine. He stumbled upon a mix tape titled Rumblefish with no songs written on it. At first
he referred to it as just another piece of useless junk that Renee left behind (Sheffield 643).
Renee was his wife whom passed away after they were married for only five years. So as he
listens through the tape, he finds himself re living and relieving the memory of his life with his
much loved wife; and each song is related with bittersweet memories. And so he drowns and looses
himself into the mix tape.

not working they would flip through vinyl records in music stores, listened to a lot of new songs

Rob continues to write about music, TV and pop culture. Love is a MIX Tape: Life and Loss, One

45. Leadership During Hurrican Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was the storm of the century. Hurricane Sandy earned the nickname Super
storm Sandy. If anyone had any doubts as to what Mother Nature is capable of, these storms are
perfect examples of the fury she can dish out here on planet Earth. The sheer amount of energy
those storms had is almost incomprehensible. Katrina had sustained winds of 174 mph and wave
heights of over 40 feet in some places. (Knabb) Sandy had winds of 115 mph and dumped over 10
inches of rain (Blake). By all measures, they were both extremely powerful weather systems
capable of taking lives.
While Super storm Sandy directly killed 148 people, Hurricane Katrina killed 1,200 (United
States). The main difference being who the leaders were. The states were the clear leaders
during Hurricane Sandy as they should have been. They knew what they needed and they were
willing to articulate those needs at the federal level. The federal government has never been
good at seeing to the day to day needs of everyday citizens. It was not set up to do so. That role
has always been delegated to the states. For some reason during Katrina state and local
authorities decided it was the other way around and they suffered for it. Katrina was not only a
perfect storm in nature, it was also a perfect storm on all levels of government. During the crisis of
hurricane Katrina there was not a clear chain of command. State and local Leaders were looking
toward the federal government for leadership in the relief

46. Capitalism And The Kingdom Of God
Capitalism: A contradiction to the Kingdom of God
In September 2013, Pope Francis publicly condemned capitalism by stating today everything comes
under the laws of competition and the survival of the fittest, where the powerful feed upon the
powerless. As a consequence, masses of people find themselves excluded and marginalized. Some
supporters of capitalism defend the trickle down theory which suggests that wealth would
eventually trickle down to the masses over a period of time. Pope Francis states that this theory
has never been supported by facts and expresses a crude and naГЇve trust in the goodness of those
wielding economic power. Any economic model that exploits the poor for personal financial gain
is offensive to God. Capitalism is diametrically opposed to the kingdom of God.
The Old and New Testament condemns oppression and exploitation of the poor. God presents
himself...as one who is especially on the side of the poor. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus stood up
in the synagogue and quoted from the book of Isaiah saying The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed to
proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. The scripture is revealing about the character and will of
God for humanity. One can conclude that God is in favor of justice for the poor and oppressed.
Capitalism is diametrically opposed to the

ABSTRACT:
Cigarette smoking in pregnancy is a universal problem that compels us to continuously explore
different strategies aimed at increasing high quit rates in this population group. Maternal smoking
during pregnancy has been linked to increased risk of obstetric and foetal adverse outcomes.
Barriers to quitting are multi factorial and the approach needs to be versatile and patient specific,
taking into consideration the dynamics of ethnicity, psychosocial and socioeconomic status.
The aim of this paper is to highlight the different strategies that have been evaluated looking at
ways of enabling pregnant women to quit smoking. Furthermore, smoking cessation in special
population groups and global initiatives on smoking regulations are discussed. A database search of
Ovid Medline, Pubmed, Embase and The Cochrane Library was undertaken to identify

49. Pornography, Erotica, and Nude Art – There Is a Difference...
Pornography is a subject that has always been argued and stirs up controversy almost anywhere it
may arise. There are people who are against it, and would like to ban all pornography for the
benefit of everyone, while there are those who defend it, claiming it is part of their guaranteed free
speech, to express themselves in a manner of their choosing. With the issue of pornographybeing
debated and spoken of, one major mistake people make is that they look at pornography according
to their own views. Different types of people look at pornography differently, and therefore create
their own definition of pornography in their minds. Usually, pornography tends to be mistaken with
nude art and erotica, so some people consider erotic as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the students were then allowed to look at the subject s breasts and ponder the importance of
nude art as they made replicas of the woman in a graceful, artistic, position. The students
probably submitted a signed note from their parents to be involved in the sculpture session,
because I do not know of any public school that would allow its students to take part in this type
of class during school hours, on school grounds. The woman s nudity is considered as art
because she is posing for an art class, which was allowed by a public school, although I highly do
not think that it would actually happen. Nude art s purpose is to portray the human body as an art
form, and not an object of sexuality or arousal.
Both pornography and erotica have the main purpose to sexually stimulate people, but
pornography does not show the emotional connection between the individuals involved in the
sexual acts, while erotica does. Erotica is just like nude art, except that erotica possesses no
artistic value, and art does contain an artistic value that is accepted by everyone. There is a form
of art called erotic art that I guess is a mixture of erotica and nude art. But if guidelines were to be
set by the government, art forms that could be on the borderline of erotic art could be easier to
distinguish. Pornography is not classified as nude art at all, and nude art is not pornography.
Pornography just has the sole

The Navy was ranked second regarding Navy servicewomen and the second ranked for the
servicemen was the Marines. In 2014, The Marine Corps reported the highest percentage of assaults

highest for men, 1.5 percent. The percent of troops reporting a sexual assaultin the other services

51. Asad s Theory Of White Norm And The Ku Klux Klan
White supremacy is a term that is traditionally defined as the belief that white people are superior
to those of all other races, especially the black race, and should therefore dominate society. White
supremacy is a deep seeded ideology that, throughout history, has impacted religion, theocracy and
the structure of our organizations. Although Christianity isn t inherently white supremacy, white
supremacy can be analyzed as a religious event, as it involves the power that is synonymous with
religion and the liminal state of traditional rites of passage. This paper will explain Asad s theory
of power, summarize Turner s account of liminality, and analyze white supremacy and the Ku Klux
Klan(KKK) using these two theoretical models.
White supremacy originated in the mid fifteenth century when the European powers began taking
African people as slaves in their quest for power and land. However, it wasn t until the late
eighteenth century when the theological association of Christianity and whiteness allowed white
supremacy to take on the cultural values consistent in Asad and Turner s theories. White supremacy
then became institutionally perpetuated and began to impact every facet of life. White supremacy
has been used to rationalize genocide, enslavement and prejudice. The Ku Klux Klan also became a
representation of white supremacy. The Ku Klux Klan saw its primary goal as the reestablishment
of white supremacy which became directly linked to white Protestant

52. Mind Map Analysis
I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other
discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which
shows the strength of the word Terrorism and the problems that have occurred because of it. It
was interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of
people mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While
there were many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the
mind map. One of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is
friends with many of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also
works at the school, and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that
she was there. This was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting I
could not imagine the stress and fear that my peer must have endured. I also saw a bubble with
KKK written inside of it. This stood out to me because I go to school in Charlottesville, which is

East when the word terrorism is in mind, it puts a negative connotation on the entire region. This
goes for other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the
words Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going
back to the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I

A hierarchical Bayesian model is developed in the inverse problem setup. The Bayesian approach
contains a natural mechanism for regularization in the form of a prior distribution, and a LASSO
type prior distribution is used to strongly induce sparseness. We propose a variational type
algorithm by minimizing the Kullback Leibler divergence between the true posterior distribution
and a separable approximation. The proposed method is illustrated on several two dimensional
linear and nonlinear inverse problems, e.g., Cauchy problem and permeability estimation problem.
