INTRODUCTION
Executive compensation has been at the forefront of discussion for a long period of time. Analyzed by
academics, highlighted by the media, questioned by Congress, and scrutinized by the general public,
the topic warrants much debate. In the 1990 s, total executive compensation increased substantially as
companies began offering stock option programs; CEO s of S amp;P 500 saw an average increase of
150%. While many top U.S. executives continued to receive enormous compensation options
throughout the economic downturns of 2001 and 2008, none was more apparent than those in the

They stated that CEO compensation should not be ranked by how much an executive is paid, but how
they are paid. A CEOs whose wealth was tied to a change value of shareholder wealth had a better
compensation that a CEO who had a higher monetary compensation. This analysis led to the increase
of stock options for CEOs and top corporate executives. However, this type of compensation structure
has unintended consequences tied to it. Stock options create incentives for executives to participate in
risk seeking activities. It creates a positive gain if the price of stock goes up, but no downside risk. So
what value do CEOs offer companies and their shareholders? Just as the NFL places value on a stellar
athletic performance and so called super human ability, so does corporate America. In extremely
competitive markets of CEO headhunting, the stakes could never be higher. Companies today are
facing lightening fast technological advances, corporate espionage, global competition, extremely
tight profit margins, innovative startups and an indiscriminate number of other issues that need to be
managed by top executives. Companies not only need leaders, but also visionaries, innovators and
calculated risk takers. This combination of person can be extremely difficult to find, employ and
retain. When it comes to the question as to whether or not CEOs and top executives are overpaid, the
question can irrevocably be answered

Persuasive Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics is an intensive sport that puts an enormous amount of pressure onto girls from the age of 5
to perform to high standards. Gymnastics has been around since the opening of the Olympics which
was in 1896. This sport contains the elements of strength, flexibility and a high level of coordination.
Girls tend to excel in these elements of personal fitness but it can also cause excruciating pain in the
nearby future. Structures of the body are strong while they are used, but overtime the bone density
gets weakened. Girls also do not experience their menstrual cycle until later in life or do not
experience them at all. On the other hand, this sport has an endless amount of benefits that nothing
else can offer such as developing skills that to an olympic level, maintaining a healthy body and how
to socially proceed with their new found confidence. This sport offers a broad variety of confidence
that make young girls strive. Girls are proud to achieve skills that only gymnastics can offer.
Gymnastics does not only help the body, but the mind too. Young girls that practice the sport have
great flexibility, increased coordination, power, agility, balanced controls, strength and pure grace. The
continuous hours that go into training reward the girls with stronger bones. With that, they need to
maintain a fit body to accomplish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students are coached and judged accordingly to their skills. It is crucial that they have self control and
make alterations if appropriate. Discipline is taught from a young age within the sport in order to
strive with success. By having motivation in the sport, students will always see an end goal in the
future. Determination is essential within training in order to learn and improve skills, to conquer fears
and succeed in goals. With that, girls will also learn how to be consistent. These skills that they learn
from a young age will follow them into the future and teach them to not give

Social Conformity Of The 1950 s
The social conformity of the 1950s can best be described as a traditional family that abides by their
gender roles. Essentially, the 1950s were when people could finally take advantage of the new time
consuming inventions and economic boosts after having experienced WWII and the Great Depression.
However, the social conformity was just the general overview of the 1950s but poverty, racism, and
alienation still persisted. The resistance against social conformity was expressed by rebellion
including occurrences like the Empire Zinc Strike, the Mendez v. Westminster case, and Montgomery
Bus Boycott. Particularly, the Empire Zinc Strike of 1951 was when Mexican American mine workers
were being discriminated in terms of working conditions and

Art School Budgets
Budgets cuts are being made to music and art classes in schools across the country. While they are
among the most expensive programs for a school to maintain, parents and communities are finding
themselves concerned about the declining exposure to the arts. According to the National Center for
Education Statistics, the number of elementary schools offering performing arts has dropped over 60%
since 2008. The argument can be made that large amounts of money are saved by terminating art
programs, but art programs have been shown to have positive impacts on student learning, with some
of the most impressive improvements being made outside of art class. Are the experiences art classes
provide worth the money?
With schools suffering drastic budget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students who took four years of art classes scored an average of 91 points higher on the SAT than
those who took less than a year. Art and music classes, especially when taken at a younger age,
improve a wide range of motor skills, from hand eye coordination to spatial temporal skills. A study
by E. Glenn Schellenberg at the University of Toronto at Mississauga found that first graders who
were given weekly piano and voice lessons had an average of 3 points higher IQ than those who didn t
have the classes. Another study from Harvard found that students who take art classes are and 3 times
more likely to earn bachelor s degrees than those who don t. The same study also discovered that
students who didn t take art classes are also 5 times more likely to drop out of high school. There is a
solution that satisfies both the exposure to art while saving the school money. Many high schools offer
art and music classes beyond the basic introductory courses. These advanced courses are often over
specialized courses that have fewer students and might require even more funds for equipment for
their specialty focus. This way, students get the exposure and opportunity to make art, while funds are
saved on more unnecessary

Casablanca Movie Analysis Essay
Film Analysis: Casablanca
Three elements from Casablanca are: explicit meaning, a protagonist character and editing of close
ups. Aspects of surface presentation, characters in pursuit of the story theme and editing shots that fill
the frame lead and enhance the plot of the backstory.
Largely, Casablanca emphasizes an explicit meaning into an implicit meaning through the story
character s functional role of the protagonist, Rick Blane. Editing of scenes using camera close ups
enhance the characters elaborate emotions and acts as a plot catalyst in Casablanca. One of the most
important explicit meanings in Casablanca utilized close ups and narration exposing the setting of the
story in the 1940 s during the rise of a Nazi regime infiltration.

Essay about Antony and Cleopatra and The Aeneid
There are two reasons why The Aeneid is associated with the Shakespearean play Antony and
Cleopatra. First, The Aeneid was written by a Roman named Virgil who, among many other reasons,
wrote it as a tribute for Augustus Caesar, the leader of the Roman Empire. Augustus Caesar was
formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. Secondly, both The Aeneid and
Antony and Cleopatra share a common theme of a patriotic, heroic man having to choose between
duty to his country and the passionate love of a beautiful, foreign and strong queen. In The Aeneid, the
lovers are Aeneas and Dido and Antony and Cleopatra are the lovers in Shakespeare s play.

The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in
Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire during
the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before Augustus
became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth, the First
Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman Empire. Crassus
was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After defeating Pompey,
Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and Cassius, two senators,
assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second Triumvirate which included
Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and Antony remained, and they began
warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C., Octavian defeated Antony and his ally
Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play
follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when Octavian defeats Antony and becomes
the sole ruler. (Although Shakespeare uses historical names and events, the minute details and specific
conversations between the characters in the play are fictitious.) Four years after the events included in
Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian assumed the title Augustus. Virgil

Inclusion In Australia
Just like any individuals in our society, the needs of students with a disability also differ. As a future
educator and specifically a physical education teacher, I believe inclusion is at the utmost importance
within a school setting in both theory and practical lessons. It is disheartening to know that students in
particular those with a disability are often excluded due to their needs and that a number of teachers
are not educated with the right skills in a way that they know how to plan their lessons effectively
enough that all students are able to participate and feel comfortable doing so. According to the
Inclusive Education for Students with a Disability (2013) report which was commissioned by the

In order to have an inclusive lesson I believe it is the teacher s responsibility to pre plan and prepare
each activity to suit each child s specific needs. Collaboration is not simply two or more people
working together, but more importantly it is how two or more people can effectively work towards a
shared goal (Friend Bursuck, 2009) . Research has shown that students benefit from educators seeking
assistance and guidance from each other in order to provide a supportive learning environment for
students with disabilities within the general education curriculum , in which could be the most

5 Wedding Dress Shopping Tips for Plus-size Brides
Beauty comes in all sizes and shapes. This is why we believe that every bride, regardless of size, must
have the opportunity to wear her dream wedding gown.
Indeed, no bride should settle for anything less than a perfect wedding dress. So, today, we will
provide you with the list of guidelines to help you find a fabulous bridal gown that will make you feel
confident radiantly beautiful on your special day.
For a full figured bride to be, here are the five essential tips to help you choose the perfect wedding
gown that flatters your body.
1. Know your body shape.
One of the most important tips in finding the ideal wedding dress is to know your body shape. By so
doing, you will find the right dress silhouette that is perfect for your figure. Gowns with an A line cut
look best on bottom heavy brides while dresses with a trumpet silhouette (or mermaid cut) look good
on top heavy brides with hourglass figures. Likewise, an apple shaped bride will look gorgeous in an
empire cut or ball gown style wedding dress. A full figured bride also needs to stay away from dresses
with horizontal lines because they can thicken the frame and widen the body.
2. Wear gowns with straps and sleeves.
Full figured brides should avoid wearing strapless wedding gowns because the style can accentuate
and widen the shoulders and arms. Hence, select a bridal gown with straps or sleeves. Also, avoid
wearing sleeves that are fitted or puffed as they make the arms appear bigger. Instead,

made command authority an issue. (Fleri, Howard, Hukill, Searle, 2013)

start of the JTF Mountain, the SOF operated under the control of the Joint Special Operations Task

Task force command and control (C2) was a major issue when key staff elements were not present.
The continuing air support need for the attack on the valley required more air controllers than

Le Morte d Arthur Essay
The Chivalric Code in Le Morte d?Arthur
An act of chivalry is described as the qualifications or character of the ideal knight. Knights were
expected to uphold this code of conduct. In the English literature Le Morte d?Arthur, French for ?The
Death of Arthur?, by Sir Thomas Malory, the characters display acts of chivalry from beginning to
end. Though the code of chivalry contains many qualities or acts, nevertheless bravery, loyalty, and
courtly love are demonstrated more throughout this literature.
Bravery is the mental or moral strength to venture and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Fear is
what one feels when fighting, knowing that he or she could die. For example, when ... Show more

In Book XVIII (Eighteen), Chapter VII (Seven), Sir Mador kidnapped Queen Guinevere. Lancelot
knew that Mador was a strong knight, but because he was loyal to Guinevere and Arthur, he fought
Mador. Another case of loyalty mixed with a touch of bravery is when Arthur?s knights fought to their
death to save Arthur from Mordred.
Loyalty can also come without fight or bravery. When Arthur went to the lake to seek the sword
Excalibur, he swore to grant Avalon?s Lady whatever gift she someday desired. Also, Merlin was
known for telling Arthur about the future and what could happen if Arthur did not listen to him, and
because of that, Arthur was loyal enough to Merlin to follow his wishes. Aside from being told what to
do and what not to do, when Arthur was wounded and in the process of dying, Sir Lucan and Sir
Bedivere were not going to leave Arthur unattended. They carried him to the next town. Also, when
Queen Guinevere heard of the death of King Arthur, she ran off to Amesbury and became a nun,
where she cursed herself for all her wrongdoing. Despite how it sounds, she expressed loyalty to the
death of Arthur, by cleansing her soul so that she may join him again, one day in the after life.
One of Queen Guinevere?s main objectives of cleansing her soul was allowing her to forgive herself
for the courtly love expressed between her and Sir Lancelot. Courtly love was a secret part of the
chivalric code.

Analysis Of Rosie The Riveter During World War II
During World War II, there were many posters to persuade individuals to help the workforce, some
specifically targeting women. In one of the posters, we can do it, a woman named Rosie the Riveter is
exhibited showing her muscles to display her strength. The main attention is the woman s strong arm
and caption to exemplify the strength of a female and how underestimated they are in the real world.
The poster has very glaring colors and the bandana on the woman s head makes her seem somewhat
rebellious and a powerful leader. Her pulled up sleeves demonstrates her independence as a woman
and how she can do more than what people expect of her. This image portrays patriotic womanhood to
give women more of a voice during the war rather than them being limited to only working inside
their homes. In the photo, longing won t bring him back it shows a woman holding letters from her
husband and she feels this longing for her husband to return from war. However, since the title says
Longing him won t bring him back sooner, get a war job basically telling the woman that by getting a
job, she will not only be helping the workforce, but it will help her stay distracted from missing her
husband. Also, in the poster victory awaits on your fingers, an American girl is shown to encourage
woman to find jobs in war production to keep woman in the workforce. The meaning behind the
poster s title is that for there to be actual success, women needs to take responsibility outside and do

Measurement Scales Paper
Measurement Scales Paper
Measurement in Analysis can take on many forms, but in this case, these come in the form of
questionnaires. A questionnaire when not done correctly may not be able to obtain the information in
which the corporation may be seeking. There are in general four categories that these fall into.
Categorically, these include Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio Numbers. The essential goal of this
author is to explain to the utmost of authority of how these fit into questionnaires.
Attitude can play a part in the variables that make up these types of scales: from Nominal to Ratio.

The question is simply whether each object has more or less of this variable. When scaled, there will
be no information as to how much difference between objects (Aakar, Kumar and Day, 2007). Due to
lack of difference between objects, the basic arithmetic operations are limited to statistics such as the
median or mode (this does not include the mean) (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). One example would
be to obtain the information sample of 1,000 surveyed consumers who ranked five brands of auto
manufacturer preferred based on quality assumption. The questionnaire may look similar as ranked
from Highest to Lowest with Second, Third, and Fourth all between (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007).
Where the Second quality will be categorized as the mode , the Third category is the median . There
will no means of categorizing a general mean because the differences in between ordinal scaled values
are not necessarily the same (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Another example of this type of scale
could be found in racing: dog, horse or car, that is they are found in a class standing (Aakar, Kudler
and Day, 2007).
Interval
The Interval scale represents the numbers used to rank objects which also represent equal increments
of the attribute being measured. In more discrete terms, it simply means differences can be compared.
The difference between 1 and 2 is the same as that found between 2 and 3,

Summary Of Tuesdays With Morrie
Aphorism Narrative
Aphorisms are statements of observations that express an opinion or remarks of wisdom. Tuesdays
With Morrie is a book about a man who s dying from ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis which is
a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. (
What Is ALS? ) Morrie uses aphorisms quite frequently to accept his future and make peace with the
past. The two aphorisms I chose are about making your life as fulfilling as possible. Not only can they
relate to me personally in small ways, but also in bigger and deeper ways.
In Tuesday s with Morrie, Morrie had many aphorisms that not only helped himself but helped others.

I can t completely forget about these relationships because they can help me grow and become a better
person. I can t deny my faults in those relationships or blame the ending of the relationship on the
other person or else I ll repeat my mistakes in other relationships. I also can t forget the positive
aspects of the relationship and the happy moments without risking living a life of misery and hate.
Morrie is well known for his aphorisms but he s not the only one who comes up with these words of
truth. An aphorism not of Morrie s but of similar depth and effect comes from the poet, George
Gordon Byron. He said, It is very certain that the desire of life prolongs it. (Aphorisms:Life) Lord
Byron lived from 1788 to 1824 and was a big contribution to the Romanticism era (Lord Byron
Biography). Romanticism was an era of creation made of feelings and expression and new deep
thought (Romanticism). This aphorism is definitely a reflection of the era. (Romanticism)
I believe that this aphorism means that being excited and enthusiastic about living and wanting to live
will make your life longer. If you re always dreading or fearing life, it will appear shorter and less
satisfying to you. For me personally, one of my biggest fears is death. Reading Tuesdays with Morrie
made me amazed and almost jealous of Morrie s outlook on death. I always fear I ll never live a long,
fulfilled life. This aphorism by Lord Byron has helped me realize that if I never do

Comparing Zeffirelli s Adaptation Of Romeo And Juliet
For never was a story of more woe/ Than this of Juliet and her Romeo. The last line of Romeo and
Juliet was one that summed up the whole play. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story between two
star crossed lovers. Juliet, a 13 years old girl, belongs to the Capulet Family. Romeo, aged at around
16, belongs to the Montague family. The two lovers cross paths and the next day they are already
married. The play itself was written by William Shakespeare in 1595. Whether it a book or a movie, in
all the spin offs, there are sometimes many difference or just a few. One of the closest interpretations
of the play is the movie Romeo and Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli in 1968; the extremely popular

as he isn t a Montague. This scene sets up the meeting of Romeo and Juliet and, sadly, not in the

There were several cases of disregard of the OECD guidelines by SPDC. There were several
allegations against SPDC indicating that they were worsening the environments of their oil
exploration areas. These allegations include turning Ogoni into a wasteland, several oil spills, and gas
flaring. These actions are contradictory to the OECD guidelines indicating that companies should
contribute to achieving environmental progress. The respect for the human rights of the citizens
affected by their activities was another example for their disregard of the guidelines. There were
allegations that SPDC thoughtlessly allowed infrastructures to operate near the civilians. Also,
Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) indicated that SPDC s oil exploration led
to acid rain, carbon monoxide exposure, and a dangerous farming environment. Nigerian Culture and
SPDC s Crisis The fact that Nigeria did not have a government representative of the people and the
population consists of an extremely ethnic diversity, more than 250 ethnic groups, has proved to
present tremendous cultural challenges for SPDC. Despite receiving more royalties (90% of the net
revenue) than any other country in the world, most of the Nigerian population lives in poverty. Nigeria
declared independence in 1960 from Britain which makes them a relatively young country. The
government, usually a military faction, has been riddled with corruption since there commencement.

Looking towards Hydrogen as a Promising Energy Source
Hydrogen is a promising energy source due to its clean product and high energy yield (122 kJ/g)
(Chang and Lin, 2004). Water electrolysis, steam reforming of hydrocarbons and auto thermal
processes are well known technologies for H2 production, but it is cost intensive due to high energy
consumption (Ming et al., 2008). In contrast, dark fermentation process is low cost technology for
hydrogen production from waste materials (Tawfik et al., 2012, Tawfik et al., 2013 and Tawfik and El
Qelish, 2012). Moreover, bio hydrogen production from OFMSW has gained great attention due to
energy generation while reducing the unwanted wastes (Tawfik et al., 2011). The main problems for
bio hydrogen production from bio wastes using dark fermentation process are the low generation rates
and yields. Therefore, several factors must be considered for maximizing H2 production in the dark
fermentation process, such as avoiding the loss of H2 to hydrogen consuming anaerobes, e.g.,
methanogens (Ming et al., 2008). The SRT is one of the important design parameters for maintaining
hydrogen producing bacteria in dark fermentation processes. The substrate uptake efficiency,
microbial population and metabolic pathways is mainly depends on the imposed SRT. It is assumed
that a long SRT causes the growth of H2 consumers, including methanogens, and competitors for
substrates, such as non H2 producing acidogens (Hawkes et al., 2002). On the other hand, a short SRT
may reduce substrate uptake efficiency,

The Problem Of Indexicals Inside Putnam s Twin Earth

of terms is defined by factors external to the speaker. So two speakers can have inside their brains an

Therefore, it s not sufficient just to look brain states of an individual to determine the reference of the
term they are using, the causal history of the object must also be taken into account. By causal history
we have to look at the Causal Theory of Reference by Saul Kripke, a theory on how terms can acquire
specific referents. The idea being that in order for a name to be able to refer to anything successfully
you do not have to completely familiar with the thing, only that the causal chain when you use it. So
for example with the naming on an individual, at the point of birth you would only need someone to
point at the baby and state I name you Jeff and from this point all of Jeff s family and friends refer to
him as Jeff following this baptismal event. Not everyone who refers to Jeff was present at this event
and when they refer to Jeff. For example one of Jeff s family friends were not present when he s given
a name but they were told about Jeff by one of his parents, so through Jeff s parent the family friend
has a causal chain to Jeff for being given that name . By drawing on the ideas of a causal continuity
for names the twin earth to show why names are independent from out brain states. The point of the

In these case, unlike the theory of Warren Bennis, mechanical base management ,which includes lots
of bureaucratic structures, control and rigid authority over employees and vertical communication
lines, becomes necessary. The reason is, while making decisons during the change process,
consultation takes time since there is high possibility of different ideas and solutions to occur by each
employee. Also, in order to consult employees, using the methods like surveys, focus groups
interviews and hiring an expert in this area would cost to a company. Nevertheless, is it really make
sense to avoid employee consultation just because it requires money and time? Wouldn t the results of
ignoring the human side of change cost more to an organisation in long term? For instance, a change
can be easily placed in an organisation structure theoretically in a cost and time efficient way, however
when it s comes to practice, these changes might backfire because employees may not be able to see
the real reason of these changes and they can assess them as a treat for their current wealth. Moreover
, being aware of the fact that organisational changes are being applied without consultation, employees
might feel unvaluable which in return causes the decay of commitment, loyalty and diligence. In
severe cases, they might

Red Glass Character Analysis
Throughout Red Glass, by Laura Resau, the characters have to overcome many changes. One
character that changes dramatically is the main character, Sophie. At the beginning of the novel,
Sophie is introduced as a sheltered girl, terrified of the outside world. Sophie experiences many things
that influence her to become a young woman that is willing to sacrifice her safety for the people she
loves. She is influenced mostly by the antagonist, Angel. Angel supports Sophie in ways that make her
want to change herself. Sophie changes positively throughout the story into a strong, fearless person,
and Angel s love for her is what makes her capable of that change. In the beginning, Sophie introduces
herself in the story as a nerdy, outcasted teenage girl, I always thought of myself as a free floating one
celled amoeba, minding my own business. The other kids at school were all parts of a larger organism.
. . Not particularly noticed, definitely not appreciated, just an amoeba swimming around aimlessly (9).
Sophie feels as if she does not belong where she grew up, she has always felt like she was on the
outside. Her father, a drug dealer and felon, left her mother when she was first born. Because of her
extreme self esteem issues, Sophie blames herself for her father leaving. She recalls what she believes
happened when she was born, When Mom was a teenager, I started making her belly fat. And then my
dad left. And then I was born too soon. And he came back to get us. But I was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Extrusion Process
Extrusion
Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross sectional profile. A material is pushed
down or drawn through a die of the desired cross section.
The two main advantages of this process over other manufacturing processes are:
Its ability to create very complex cross sections
To work substances that are brittle because the material only encounters compressive and shear
stresses.
It also forms finished parts with an excellent surface finish.
Extrusion may be continuous or semi continuous (producing many pieces). The extrusion process can
be done with the materials hot or cold.

Uncoiler roller diameter: 138.8mm (approx.), Made up of: M/S flat.
Butt welding is used in this process which is used to connect parts which are nearly parallel and don t
overlap. It is done by melting down the work pieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of
molten material that cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with
heat, or by itself to produce the weld. Grinding machine is used for surface finish that must show high
surface quality and high accuracy of shape and dimension.

Modern Day Slavery Of Thailand
Modern day Slavery in Thailand
Every year, Thailand experiences high rates of human trafficking from its rural parts and from its the
neighboring countries in the Greater Mekong Sub region. Sex trafficking is not just described as the
trade in humans for sexual slavery but also consists of forced marriages or even martyr organ donors.
Trafficking is often seen through the hue of sexual slavery and it is critical to understand the social,
political and economic reasons that contribute to the growth of human trafficking in Thailand. Since
the Vietnam War, sex trafficking has been on a constant rise due to foreign troops being the very first
clients to sex workers, there has been a perception of Thailand as a sought of after destination for ...

Hence the question that arises is that despite all of this, why does sex trafficking endure? The reason is
because sex trafficking has slowly become a part of Thailand s cultural heritage, so much so that it s
religious, economic and political background has become a viable reference point.
Religious norms also play an important part in constructing the social status of women in Thailand.
Communities such as the ethnic Akha that is predominantly a Buddhist community, accredits in the
strict readings on the basic truths of Karma. Seabrook further elaborates that women are inherently
impure and carnal according to various undeniable Buddhist sects and these communities relate the
involvement of women in sex trade as a consequence of their karma, their demerit in a former life. In
this way, men can express lust without demerit because it is caused by women (qtd. in Mah, 80). This
specific reading of Buddhist sects exempts men from any sins when associated with human
trafficking. Moreover, the spiritual beliefs associated with the social status of the women grants the
same status to be cemented into a culture. Religious norms then become a principal factor in
determining the cultural values of a community, especially in rural areas. Hence, it creates a feedback
loop of religious values that allows men to consume prostitution without fear of wrongdoings

Most Common Stereotypes At Comic Con
People Watching At Comic Con
If you ve ever been to a comic convention you might ve accidently mistaken it to be Halloween day.
The diversity of people walking in and out of those convention doors is limitless. Most people at a
glance just see a bunch of random nerds in costumes. If you ever attended any comic conventions you
ll be able to pick out certain types of people like cliques in a high school. Some are harder to figure
out and some standout like Chewbacca at a star trek convention. The one thing that they all have in
common is that they are all dedicated and have a passion for some nerdy movie, TV, or comic book at

Next we have the real deals, the official cosplayers. These people work on their cosplays for month s

The Music Of A Christmas Carol
about it (Gaskell 18). James, who is another servant, tells Hester that she has mistaken the wind
soughing among the trees for music (Gaskell 17). Hester must force Agnes, by way of rank, to reveal
that it is believed that the dead old lord , plays the organ (Gaskell 18). Miss Furnivall is first connected
with the music, when Hester claims that she thought it was her playing the organ (Gaskell 18). Being
that Miss Furnivall is deaf, and is therefore an unlikely musician, this insinuates that Miss Furnivall is
connected to this problem. However similar to A Christmas Carol , the music is suggested to be
derived from ghostly means, because the organ is found to be broken inside, therefore unable to be
played normally (Gaskell 18). This thought is later underlined when the child, Rosamond, goes
missing, and ghosts threaten the household, further emphasizing that a problem exists (Gaskell 20,24).
Music is suggested many ways to cause her problems between Miss Furnivall and her sister, Miss
Maude, rather than aid the sisters in a solution. Both sisters fell in love with the same man, a foreign
musician, whom their father had down from London to play music (Gaskell 26). The sisters develop a
rivalry over the foreigner (Gaskell 27). The foreigner is never given a name because it is suggested
that he is not consequential as a person, but rather as a problem between the sisters. As he is of lower
rank and not British, he is developed to play on Victorian fears, and social

Types of Bridges
There are 4 major types of bridges. We have a separate page for each type of bridge. Please go to one
of the following pages. Beam The beam type is the simplest type of bridge. The beam bridge could be
anything as simple as a plank of wood to a complex structure. It is made of two or more supports
which hold up a beam. Arch In the arch type of bridge, weight is carried outward along two paths,
curving toward the ground. Suspension/Cable stayed The deck (trafficway) of a suspension bridge is
hung by cables which hang from towers. The cables transfer the weight to the towers, which transfer
the weight to the ground. Cable stayed bridges have towers, but cables from the towers go directly to

In addition, they are widely used as the deck elements of cable stayed and suspension bridges, where
the torsional stiffness of a box is important for the dynamics of such long span bridges. Truss bridges
A truss is a triangulated framework of elements that act primarily in tension and compression. It is a
light weight yet very stiff form of construction. Truss girders were common in early steel bridge
construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were
of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive.
Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can
still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans
in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck
level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders
minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are
particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. The light weight yet stiff nature of truss bridges
also makes them ideal for demountable Bailey bridges. Trusses can also be used as arch elements (for
example, the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and as cantilever elements (for

Thomas Jefferson once said, Every generation needs a new revolution. Thomas Jefferson indicates that
every generation needs a group of motivated people hoping to fix the broken pieces in soceity. E.L

E.L Doctorow does so by using three distinct revolutionaries, each with different qualities; the

Coalhouse Walker, plays his tune on the piano, Ragtime, which is like a change in society. It
represents how history changes continually and it changes like a tune in dynamics. Coalhouse is a part
of the very own tune he plays when he sets out to become a revolutionary. The actions leading to
Coalhouse s crude and violent plans were his hope to set to create fire and burn down American ideals,
to change them for the better. Coalhouse was totally valid in performing the actions that he did. He did
not intend to do them, but was forced to fire the trigger so he could give his people the rights that they
deserved. The breaking down of his car only represented a start to a revolutionary. When he meets,
Booker T. Washington, he responds with pride and respect as a revolutionary. For instance, Coalhouse
spoke softly. It is a great honor for me to meet you, sir, he said. I have always stood in admiration for
you. He looked at the marble floor. It is true that I am a musician and a man of year. But I would hope
this might suggest to you the solemn calculation of my mind. And that therefore, possibly, we might

the respect it demands, Coalhouse talks to Booker T Washington and tries to show him from his sharp

fighting and rebelling, we demand America to redefine equality. Coalhouse is deeply sliced by the
death of Sarah, and his decision for demanding equality is on the verge to his death. He questions the

The first form of perseverance that Jason (and the argonauts) went through was the long boat ride to

story on how if you re dedicated and determined to get things done it will come with relative ease.
Jason wasn t known as just a great hero, he was also very well known for being a master of exploring.
Remember that Jason traveled thousands of miles on the seas to get to many different locations. Upon

Critical Reflection
Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and Goliath by
Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the underdog, and Goliath, the
giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by using his unconventional strategies. It also talks
about how some underdogs can overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power
comes in different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real life
experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a person who is
underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully. Malcolm Gladwell also explains many
other terms to prove his argument. I have experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog.
I felt disempowered because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class
at College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a native speaker.
There were also moments in my college classes where I felt empowered because of my strengths; for
example, I felt empowered in my Math 120 and pre calculus class because I already knew the
concepts of these classes. I had a lot of moments in my life where I felt empowered and disempowered
as a student, but learning from those moments helped me to succeed in my college classes.
I felt disempowered in my English 838 classroom because English was not my native language. I have

then I transferred to College of San Mateo because of some financial issues in spring 2017. I
registered for my English 838 class for the spring semester, but I was really worried about this class. I
was so nervous for taking English class because It was my first time taking an English class in the
United States. I came from a country where English is not a native language. Even though I was from
an English medium high school in India, I was so nervous because I wasn t sure that if I am ready to

Moby Dick Captain Ahab Quotes
Herman Melville, in his renowned novel Moby Dick, presents the tale of the determined and insanely
stubborn Captain Ahab as he leads his crew, the men of the Pequod, in revenge against the white
whale. A crew mixed in age and origin, and a young, logical narrator named Ishmael sail with Ahab.
Cut off from the rest of society, Ahab attempts to make justice for his personal loss of a leg to Moby
Dick on a previous voyage, and fights against the injustice he perceived in the overwhelming forces
that surround him. Melville uses a series of gams, social interactions or simple exchanges of
information between whaling ships at sea, in order to more clearly present man s situation as he faces
an existence whose meaning he cannot fully grasp. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabriel warns Ahab that if he keeps pursuing the white whale his end will come. Ahab refuses to listen

Englishman did not know that he had lost his arm to the Moby Dick for some time after the attack, but

Disillusionment In Twelfth Night
Disappointment and disillusionment are both prominent themes presented by L.P Hartley in The Go

demonstrates how a young boys deceived and clouded perception of life leads to a disillusioned old
man, who can t recover from the distressing events of the first summer of 1900. In Shakespeare s
Twelfth Night disappointment is exhibited through many characters whom experience the torments of
a love that is not reciprocated. Furthermore, Thomas Hardy explores similar themes in his poetry via

The speakers misconceptions of another woman s feelings towards himself first emerge when he
believes that her gloom within at the lack of [him] seemed matching [his] at the lack of her , the
repetition of lack in both lines shows that the speaker wants to relate to the woman, as well as wanting
the woman to relate to him. Hardy s use of the expression seemed is a foregrounding technique to

unreciprocated feelings between himself and the woman. Disappointment surfaces when the speaker

Steroid Use in Pro Sports is Unethical Essay
When you were a kid, didn t you want to play a professional sport? What would you give to be one of
the best athletes in the world? Would you risk your reputation? Your health? Would you be willing to
die? Although many studies have come out saying that steroids diminish one s health, people still take
them hoping to be the best. Imagine if you were a 28 year old who left college early because a pro
team guaranteed you that you would play in the big leagues. Yet you just got stuck in the minors, and
the only way you could get to the big s was to take a pill that made you super strong and super fast. It
would make sense to just take it. But what if that pill shrunk your testicles, hurt your heart and
vascular system, and made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Athletics play such an important role in our society, but, unfortunately, some in professional sports are
not setting much of an example. The use of performance enhancing drugs like steroids in baseball,
football, and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message that there are shortcuts to
accomplishment, and that performance is more important than character. So tonight I call on team
owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right signal, to get
tough, and to get rid of steroids now.
Steroids are laboratory made versions of the human hormone testosterone, which aids growth of
muscles, bones and skin. Testosterone is primarily a male hormone, though females produce trace
amounts. Doctors, for medical uses, may legally prescribe steroids. Steroids for muscle building are
obtained illegally; they are produced overseas or in clandestine laboratories in the U.S. For all the
health risks, research shows steroids do work when it comes to building muscle and power.
These things, in my judgment, work better than most scientists believe, says Gary Wadler of the New
York University School of Medicine, the athletes figured out how well these work long before
scientists. (pg. 13)
Steroids work as follows. When receptor sites don t have much testosterone, then get flooded with it,
they get activated.

Types And Types Of Insulin
1 INTRODUCTION
Pancreas, an organ that sits behind the stomach, releases hormones into the digestive system. In a
healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta cells
release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as energy or
store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels.
There are three major types of Diabetes
1. Type 1 diabetes
It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting in
no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of
being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can also
develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin.
2. Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly use the insulin that is released in the body or
does not make enough insulin. It more often develops in adults. Type 2 diabetes may be managed
through physical activity and meal planning or may also require medications and/ or insulin to control
the blood glucose in body.
3. Gestational diabetes
It is a condition that women can get when they are in the second trimester of pregnancy. About 4
percent of all the pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. Unlike Type1 and Type 2 diabetes,
gestational diabetes may disappear after the baby is born.

Jonathan Kozol The Shame Of The Nation Analysis
Award winning writer and public lecturer, Jonathan Kozol wrote an essay that was published in Harper
s Magazine and was also adapted from his book, The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of
Apartheid Schooling in America. This essay essentially discusses the injustice of the school systems
and how predominately white districts thrive while African American districts are left without basic
needs.
Kozol uses of New York City as an example of the unfair financial inconsistencies towards specific
counties or cities in the state. The author argues, the gross discrepancies in teacher salaries between
the city and its affluent white suburbs have remained persistent (354). He continues his argument
stating that the median salary for teachers in an African American community in 1997 was $43,000
while in suburban white communities the salary was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, at the opposite extreme along the economic spectrum in New York are numerous children
who receive no special opportunities of superb schooling programs simply because they are not as
financially fortunate as their white counterparts (Kozol 354 355). To reason with this iniquitous
reality, Kozol quotes Marian Warner, a novelist who has written several books for children, stating,
There are expensive children and there are cheap children, just as there are expensive women and
cheap women (354). Kozol continues by explaining that governmentally administered degradation in
the value of children in poor communities fundamentally begins before the age of five, which would
be when they would start their years in formal education in public education. In actuality, in begins
during infancy, when a populous amount of children are born into poor districts and are locked out of
the opportunities privileged children are

The Measure Results Of The Data Sets
The measure results of the data sets are not surprising. The means of each of the independent variables
reflect the arbitrary evaluations of each of these parameters. All the variables have relatively small
standard errors compare to their mean. Also, the medians and the means mostly lie fairly close to each
other, in another word, the means well indicate the actual distribution of the data sets. One of the
possible concerns is that per capita disposable income has both high standard deviation and high
variance. This result can be reasonable because of the extreme scatterings of incomes due to
demographics, social classes, and other kinds of factors.
Furthermore, the inflation rate jumped to 4.1% in 2007 and dropped to 1.7% in 2012, which can also
be a factor that causes the change in per capita dollar value, eventually being reflected in the result.
The predictors are relatively consistent with the hypothesized model for the values of digital music
singles downloaded in the U.S. with the exception of PUI, the percentage individuals using Internet.
As a percentage variable that oscillates between 0 and 1, it is more difficult to understand exactly how
a 1 percent change in the Internet usage would directly impact value of digital music singles
downloaded in the U.S. other than knowing that an increase in percentage usage would lead to a
decrease in the value of digital music singles downloaded. For the other three independent variables,
MR, PCDI and MCSR, it is

Positive Aspects Of Legalizing Prostitution
I am writing in response to Peyton Jefferson s question: when thinking about how the Netherlands
decided to legalize prostitution, what pros do you think could have come from that strategy? Although
I am against legalizing prostitution, and think it shouldn t even exist, I can see how legalizing it could
bring about some positive aspects. Theoretically, there are many positive aspects of legalizing
prostitution. For starters, legalization could protect women from abuse and violence by giving them
rights that enable them to speak up. When women have these rights, they feel they can go to the police
if they are facing abuse from their pimps. There are many reasons they wouldn t before because of the
legal reasons. There is fear of what consequences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, that s not the case. Prostitution is one of the most dangerous business out there, even after
legalization women still experienced abuse, but were still too scared to speak out about it. Now that
prostitution was legal, the sex industry was on a rise. Demands for prostitutes increased, which
resulted in women and minors being imported from other places to fulfill the demand. Sex trafficking
was already a problem before, now they ve just made the matter worse. I would go as far to say that it
was encouraged, because now it s a legal business. What most are forgetting is this business is filled
with greedy criminals looking for the most profit. This leads to women and children being exploited,
and problems are only growing.
Sure, in theory, there are pros to legalizing prostitution. Seeing as how it was done before in the
Netherlands, we can also see how those pros don t always add up. There is no solution to the problems
associated with prostitution and sex trafficking. Legalizing prostitution only increases the growing
problems in the sex industry. In conclusion, I can see the theoretical pros of legalization, but I cannot
overlook the negative outcome it produces. I will stand firm in my belief that any form of sex for
money is wrong, and that we need to work towards a future where it is

Essay on The Ultimate Goal Line of Art
From stick figures in the sand and the earliest animals painted and carved in stone, individuals
worldwide have responded to the world by using images. The ultimate goal line of art, especially in
the past, was to transport meaning and express important ideas, enlightening what was significant to
every civilization, by eye catching images. In be familiar with the subject matter of any painting, you
have to look at the artist s objectives, which are regularly connected to social conditions, national or
global issues and the demands of the public. To avoid the drawbacks of judging all art by our own
personal experiences and personal views, we have to learn the background surrounding the artist when
the work was created that being the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of societal repression, intolerance, and violence. Before its commercialization, graffiti was not only a

Bishop And The Candlesticks Essay
The Bishop and the Candlesticks is a selection of Les Misérables about the criminal Jean Valjean and
his life changing interaction with an aged bishop, Monseigneur François Bienvenu. Here we find Jean
just released from prison, and after traveling a long distance, he cannot find an inn that will take him
or someone that will sell him food. Finally, he finds himself at the door of M. Bienvenu, who
welcomes him in, gives him a bed and food. Jean, although surprised by the bishop s kindness, steals
silver dishes and flees in the night. Although others may disagree on the virtues of the bishop, saying
it was his duty, The Bishop and the Candlesticks provide an example of virtues and the differences
between good and evil. The Bishop is compared to that of a Saint, while Jean Valjean ... Show more

It was more than a smile an almost a radiance. On his forehead rested the indescribable reflection of
an unseen light (PDF, p.405).
This saintly character, as Bernard Mayo would describe, is more than the sum of its parts (Pojman, p.
414). Instead of killing the sleeping man of such great virtue, Jean Valjean spares his life and in the
end finds a hero to base the rest of his life upon. O.J. Urmson would describe the bishop as doing his
duty in contexts in which fear would lead most men not to do it, and does so without effort (Pojman,
p. 417). The bishop took in the criminal when no one else would, even the site of Valjean made people
afraid.
According to Aristotle and his theory of means, Jean Valjean can see the bishop as saintly and his
sister and housekeeper can see the bishop as foolhardy. Yet it is difficult to not see that Hugo is
making a point to show the bishop as a saintly figure, one to demonstrate to Jean that there is good
within and evil acts are not the only option for the ex convict. The bishop changes the life of Valjean,
by giving him a role model to base his new life

Danny Devito Research Paper
One person who has truly influenced my view of myself, the world around me, and the true personal
sovereignty governing my future is Danny DeVito. Danny DeVito has taught me to believe in myself.
His versatile acting and many talents inspire me to pursue my dreams despite physical flaws that
others say should get in my way. Danny DeVito is a beautiful man with talents that surpass that of any
actor who has graced the big screen.
Danny DeVito could do anything, including taking up the roles of some truly iconic movies. Instead of
the beloved Daniel Radcliffe assuming the role of Harry Potter in the Harry Potter films; it could have
been the equally short but arguably more charming Danny DeVito. The image of Danny DeVito
swathed in Hogwarts robes as he fights Voldemort and falls in love with Ginny comes effortlessly.

Pride and Prejudice is a masterpiece, and Danny DeVito could have been staring down Mr. Darcy and

lake, soaking wet. Danny DeVito in a state of agitation as he realized he was in love with Mr. Darcy
and was frustrated with his own assumptions and prejudices is an image that is no stretch of the
imagination. Danny DeVito can sing. Danny DeVito could be Sandy in Grease, singing alongside John
Travolta. Imagine Danny DeVito going together with Danny like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga

The initiating event in the novel The Droughtlanders that got the entire story rolling is when Eli
follows his mother and sees her talking to a Droughtlander, the very same people he was taught to hate
and despise because of the sickness that they carry. When he sees his mother kiss the Droughtlander
he is mortified that that his mother would go anywhere near the people that are considered worse than
rats. This leads Eli to question his mother, then question his beliefs, and then follow in his mother s
footsteps to bring the keys down.
7) I can imagine myself re reading this book again in 10 years because this book is amazing and it is
perfect for teenagers and young adult readers. This book is griping and beautifully written. When
reading this book you get thrown into the apocalyptic setting. I would recommend this book to my
friends because I loved it and all the other books in the series. It s just great.

Similarities Between The Last Dog And The Last Dog
You are being deceived; two things can seem similar, but really, they are very different. What you
initially see is not always accurate, this is especially prominent in literature. Though Dark They Were
and Golden Eyed and The Last Dog appear to be similar, because they have similar genes and
characters, they have contrasting themes that are developed in vastly different ways.
The stories seem similar because they are both science fiction, and have main characters that are alike.
Brock and Bittering are extremely different than the people around them. Brock, in The Last Dog ,
lives in a dome, in what is a post apocalyptic Earth, where everyone in the dome is unemotional and
bland, except Brock. This quote from the text shows that the story is science fiction, ...he pulled the
scanner from his outside pouch and checked it hot. Oh, that was what he was feeling. Hot. Both stories
include many classic elements of science fiction, like being set in the future, and new technology and
science. Dark They Were and Golden Eyed shares the same traits. When a character says We re
stranded on Mars... it creates a science fiction story, because we do not currently have the technology
to live on Mars, and it shows the story is in the future. Both stories have similar main characters.
Brock and Bittering are the odd ones out in their peer group, Brock is more human than others,
because he has strong feelings, and longs for adventure. ...his heart was beating so hard... this supports
the fact that Brock is uncommon, because he is getting excited about leaving the dome. Bittering is
different from the people around him because he resists and questions the change that is affecting him
and his community. When Bittering says What is this? We ve got to get away from this. He is talking
about how Mars is slowing changing everything that is organic from Earth into Martian things. The
roses, for example, start normally but after some time on Mars they turn green. Bittering is abnormal
because everyone else from Earth is not worried about the changes they are going through. By sharing
the same gene, and having similar main characters, The Last Dog and Dark They Were and Golden
Eyed are similar, but they are, in fact,

Some Things To Be Aware When It Comes To Dealing With The Homeless When people think of
being homeless in Las Vegas, images of dirty bums scattered on the streets ravaging for food in
garbage cans and begging for money comes up. The grimness and stench of trash from these people
fills the air and causes everyone to hold their noses because of the outdoor sweaty smells that
normally accompanies them. Of course, not all homeless people are like this because there are many
who keep themselves well groomed. Being homeless technically means the person is without a home,

current living situation where they are living outside but this does ... Show more content on

Homeless people who look clean and neat are usually truly homeless and in need of genuine help
because they are taking advantage of programs that want to help them such as Charities and churches.
Some of the dirty homeless people will actually reject help. The drug addicts will reject a sandwich if
offered to them because they want the money instead. Remember the homeless guy from Scary Movie
that said, I said a dollar, bitch! and tossed the sandwich back at the main character? Some dirty
homeless people are really like that. As stated earlier, homeless people ,of course, are humans, so they
have human ways. They could be very picky eaters and will ask that you buy them certain foods. I
knew some homeless people who were vegetarians! I was one. There are also soup kitchen and food
pantries if you need something quick and free to eat. You can recognize a homeless person based on
the clothes they wear. A laborer would typically wear dirty clothes, which is normal, however, if you
see a person who is wearing dirty clothing with obvious dried up stains that haven t been washed out
in months then they might be a homeless person. Some homeless people don t go to the laundromat
for various reasons and others are always there because of course they want to stay clean and their
skin healthy. As stated earlier, the drug addicts or people with mental disabilities will choose not to
wash their clothes, but real homeless people strive to

till they could find us when the sky lights in a couple hours. We moved out as a bunch, and taking out
everyone who got in our way. Enemies noticed lights every once in a while, but by the time they got to

Streaks of light, orange ones, started to appear by the time we see the opening at the end of the dark
forest. It was sunlight, and we re back to where we started. Something I can call my home on the
battlefield. I took a random shot into the horizon as the sun appeared, dawn, and just in time. With the

  • 2. Us Auto Industry Back on Top UNITED STATES AUTO INDUSTRY BACK ON TOP . . . OF CEO PAY Valerie Lieber MGT 2500 Human Resource Management February 11, 2015 INTRODUCTION Executive compensation has been at the forefront of discussion for a long period of time. Analyzed by academics, highlighted by the media, questioned by Congress, and scrutinized by the general public, the topic warrants much debate. In the 1990 s, total executive compensation increased substantially as companies began offering stock option programs; CEO s of S amp;P 500 saw an average increase of 150%. While many top U.S. executives continued to receive enormous compensation options throughout the economic downturns of 2001 and 2008, none was more apparent than those in the automotive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They stated that CEO compensation should not be ranked by how much an executive is paid, but how they are paid. A CEOs whose wealth was tied to a change value of shareholder wealth had a better compensation that a CEO who had a higher monetary compensation. This analysis led to the increase of stock options for CEOs and top corporate executives. However, this type of compensation structure has unintended consequences tied to it. Stock options create incentives for executives to participate in risk seeking activities. It creates a positive gain if the price of stock goes up, but no downside risk. So what value do CEOs offer companies and their shareholders? Just as the NFL places value on a stellar athletic performance and so called super human ability, so does corporate America. In extremely competitive markets of CEO headhunting, the stakes could never be higher. Companies today are facing lightening fast technological advances, corporate espionage, global competition, extremely tight profit margins, innovative startups and an indiscriminate number of other issues that need to be managed by top executives. Companies not only need leaders, but also visionaries, innovators and calculated risk takers. This combination of person can be extremely difficult to find, employ and retain. When it comes to the question as to whether or not CEOs and top executives are overpaid, the question can irrevocably be answered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Social Conformity Of The 1950 s The social conformity of the 1950s can best be described as a traditional family that abides by their gender roles. Essentially, the 1950s were when people could finally take advantage of the new time consuming inventions and economic boosts after having experienced WWII and the Great Depression. However, the social conformity was just the general overview of the 1950s but poverty, racism, and alienation still persisted. The resistance against social conformity was expressed by rebellion including occurrences like the Empire Zinc Strike, the Mendez v. Westminster case, and Montgomery Bus Boycott. • 5. Art School Budgets Budgets cuts are being made to music and art classes in schools across the country. While they are among the most expensive programs for a school to maintain, parents and communities are finding themselves concerned about the declining exposure to the arts. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the number of elementary schools offering performing arts has dropped over 60% since 2008. The argument can be made that large amounts of money are saved by terminating art programs, but art programs have been shown to have positive impacts on student learning, with some of the most impressive improvements being made outside of art class. Are the experiences art classes provide worth the money? With schools suffering drastic budget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students who took four years of art classes scored an average of 91 points higher on the SAT than those who took less than a year. Art and music classes, especially when taken at a younger age, improve a wide range of motor skills, from hand eye coordination to spatial temporal skills. A study by E. Glenn Schellenberg at the University of Toronto at Mississauga found that first graders who were given weekly piano and voice lessons had an average of 3 points higher IQ than those who didn t have the classes. Another study from Harvard found that students who take art classes are and 3 times more likely to earn bachelor s degrees than those who don t. The same study also discovered that students who didn t take art classes are also 5 times more likely to drop out of high school. There is a solution that satisfies both the exposure to art while saving the school money. Many high schools offer art and music classes beyond the basic introductory courses. These advanced courses are often over specialized courses that have fewer students and might require even more funds for equipment for their specialty focus. This way, students get the exposure and opportunity to make art, while funds are saved on more unnecessary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay about Antony and Cleopatra and The Aeneid There are two reasons why The Aeneid is associated with the Shakespearean play Antony and Cleopatra. First, The Aeneid was written by a Roman named Virgil who, among many other reasons, wrote it as a tribute for Augustus Caesar, the leader of the Roman Empire. Augustus Caesar was formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. Secondly, both The Aeneid and Antony and Cleopatra share a common theme of a patriotic, heroic man having to choose between duty to his country and the passionate love of a beautiful, foreign and strong queen. In The Aeneid, the lovers are Aeneas and Dido and Antony and Cleopatra are the lovers in Shakespeare s play. First, an overview of the books of The Aeneid in which Aeneas is with Dido is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire during the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before Augustus became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth, the First Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman Empire. Crassus was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After defeating Pompey, Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and Cassius, two senators, assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second Triumvirate which included Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and Antony remained, and they began warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C., Octavian defeated Antony and his ally Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when Octavian defeats Antony and becomes the sole ruler. (Although Shakespeare uses historical names and events, the minute details and specific conversations between the characters in the play are fictitious.) Four years after the events included in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian assumed the title Augustus. Virgil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Inclusion In Australia Just like any individuals in our society, the needs of students with a disability also differ. As a future educator and specifically a physical education teacher, I believe inclusion is at the utmost importance within a school setting in both theory and practical lessons. It is disheartening to know that students in particular those with a disability are often excluded due to their needs and that a number of teachers are not educated with the right skills in a way that they know how to plan their lessons effectively enough that all students are able to participate and feel comfortable doing so. Collaboration is not simply two or more people working together, but more importantly it is how two or more people can effectively work towards a shared goal (Friend Bursuck, 2009) . Research has shown that students benefit from educators seeking assistance and guidance from each other in order to provide a supportive learning environment for students with disabilities within the general education curriculum , in which could be the most engaging and successful experience for all parties involved (Leader Janssen, Swain, Delkamiller, Ritzman, 2012, p. ... • 9. 5 Wedding Dress Shopping Tips for Plus-size Brides Beauty comes in all sizes and shapes. This is why we believe that every bride, regardless of size, must have the opportunity to wear her dream wedding gown. Indeed, no bride should settle for anything less than a perfect wedding dress. So, today, we will provide you with the list of guidelines to help you find a fabulous bridal gown that will make you feel confident radiantly beautiful on your special day. For a full figured bride to be, here are the five essential tips to help you choose the perfect wedding gown that flatters your body. 1. Know your body shape. One of the most important tips in finding the ideal wedding dress is to know your body shape. By so doing, you will find the right dress silhouette that is perfect for your figure. Gowns with an A line cut look best on bottom heavy brides while dresses with a trumpet silhouette (or mermaid cut) look good on top heavy brides with hourglass figures. Likewise, an apple shaped bride will look gorgeous in an empire cut or ball gown style wedding dress. A full figured bride also needs to stay away from dresses with horizontal lines because they can thicken the frame and widen the body. 2. Wear gowns with straps and sleeves. Full figured brides should avoid wearing strapless wedding gowns because the style can accentuate and widen the shoulders and arms. Hence, select a bridal gown with straps or sleeves. Also, avoid wearing sleeves that are fitted or puffed as they make the arms appear bigger. Instead, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Le Morte d Arthur Essay The Chivalric Code in Le Morte d?Arthur An act of chivalry is described as the qualifications or character of the ideal knight. Knights were expected to uphold this code of conduct. In the English literature Le Morte d?Arthur, French for ?The Death of Arthur?, by Sir Thomas Malory, the characters display acts of chivalry from beginning to end. Though the code of chivalry contains many qualities or acts, nevertheless bravery, loyalty, and courtly love are demonstrated more throughout this literature. Bravery is the mental or moral strength to venture and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Fear is what one feels when fighting, knowing that he or she could die. For example, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Book XVIII (Eighteen), Chapter VII (Seven), Sir Mador kidnapped Queen Guinevere. Lancelot knew that Mador was a strong knight, but because he was loyal to Guinevere and Arthur, he fought Mador. Another case of loyalty mixed with a touch of bravery is when Arthur?s knights fought to their death to save Arthur from Mordred. Loyalty can also come without fight or bravery. When Arthur went to the lake to seek the sword Excalibur, he swore to grant Avalon?s Lady whatever gift she someday desired. Also, Merlin was known for telling Arthur about the future and what could happen if Arthur did not listen to him, and because of that, Arthur was loyal enough to Merlin to follow his wishes. Aside from being told what to do and what not to do, when Arthur was wounded and in the process of dying, Sir Lucan and Sir Bedivere were not going to leave Arthur unattended. They carried him to the next town. Also, when Queen Guinevere heard of the death of King Arthur, she ran off to Amesbury and became a nun, where she cursed herself for all her wrongdoing. Despite how it sounds, she expressed loyalty to the death of Arthur, by cleansing her soul so that she may join him again, one day in the after life. One of Queen Guinevere?s main objectives of cleansing her soul was allowing her to forgive herself for the courtly love expressed between her and Sir Lancelot. • 12. Analysis Of Rosie The Riveter During World War II During World War II, there were many posters to persuade individuals to help the workforce, some specifically targeting women. In one of the posters, we can do it, a woman named Rosie the Riveter is exhibited showing her muscles to display her strength. The main attention is the woman s strong arm and caption to exemplify the strength of a female and how underestimated they are in the real world. The poster has very glaring colors and the bandana on the woman s head makes her seem somewhat rebellious and a powerful leader. Her pulled up sleeves demonstrates her independence as a woman and how she can do more than what people expect of her. This image portrays patriotic womanhood to give women more of a voice during the war rather than them being limited to only working inside their homes. In the photo, longing won t bring him back it shows a woman holding letters from her husband and she feels this longing for her husband to return from war. A questionnaire when not done correctly may not be able to obtain the information in which the corporation may be seeking. There are in general four categories that these fall into. Categorically, these include Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio Numbers. The essential goal of this author is to explain to the utmost of authority of how these fit into questionnaires. The question is simply whether each object has more or less of this variable. When scaled, there will be no information as to how much difference between objects (Aakar, Kumar and Day, 2007). Due to lack of difference between objects, the basic arithmetic operations are limited to statistics such as the median or mode (this does not include the mean) (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). One example would be to obtain the information sample of 1,000 surveyed consumers who ranked five brands of auto manufacturer preferred based on quality assumption. The questionnaire may look similar as ranked from Highest to Lowest with Second, Third, and Fourth all between (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Where the Second quality will be categorized as the mode , the Third category is the median . There will no means of categorizing a general mean because the differences in between ordinal scaled values are not necessarily the same (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Another example of this type of scale could be found in racing: dog, horse or car, that is they are found in a class standing (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Interval The Interval scale represents the numbers used to rank objects which also represent equal increments of the attribute being measured. There were several allegations against SPDC indicating that they were worsening the environments of their oil exploration areas. These allegations include turning Ogoni into a wasteland, several oil spills, and gas flaring. These actions are contradictory to the OECD guidelines indicating that companies should contribute to achieving environmental progress. The respect for the human rights of the citizens affected by their activities was another example for their disregard of the guidelines. There were allegations that SPDC thoughtlessly allowed infrastructures to operate near the civilians. Also, Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) indicated that SPDC s oil exploration led to acid rain, carbon monoxide exposure, and a dangerous farming environment. Water electrolysis, steam reforming of hydrocarbons and auto thermal processes are well known technologies for H2 production, but it is cost intensive due to high energy consumption (Ming et al., 2008). In contrast, dark fermentation process is low cost technology for hydrogen production from waste materials (Tawfik et al., 2012, Tawfik et al., 2013 and Tawfik and El Qelish, 2012). Moreover, bio hydrogen production from OFMSW has gained great attention due to energy generation while reducing the unwanted wastes (Tawfik et al., 2011). The main problems for bio hydrogen production from bio wastes using dark fermentation process are the low generation rates and yields. Therefore, several factors must be considered for maximizing H2 production in the dark fermentation process, such as avoiding the loss of H2 to hydrogen consuming anaerobes, e.g., methanogens (Ming et al., 2008). The SRT is one of the important design parameters for maintaining hydrogen producing bacteria in dark fermentation processes. The substrate uptake efficiency, microbial population and metabolic pathways is mainly depends on the imposed SRT. It is assumed that a long SRT causes the growth of H2 consumers, including methanogens, and competitors for substrates, such as non H2 producing acidogens (Hawkes et al., 2002). On the other hand, a short SRT may reduce substrate uptake efficiency, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religious norms also play an important part in constructing the social status of women in Thailand. Communities such as the ethnic Akha that is predominantly a Buddhist community, accredits in the strict readings on the basic truths of Karma. Seabrook further elaborates that women are inherently impure and carnal according to various undeniable Buddhist sects and these communities relate the involvement of women in sex trade as a consequence of their karma, their demerit in a former life. In this way, men can express lust without demerit because it is caused by women (qtd. in Mah, 80). This specific reading of Buddhist sects exempts men from any sins when associated with human trafficking. Miss Furnivall is first connected with the music, when Hester claims that she thought it was her playing the organ (Gaskell 18). Being that Miss Furnivall is deaf, and is therefore an unlikely musician, this insinuates that Miss Furnivall is connected to this problem. However similar to A Christmas Carol , the music is suggested to be derived from ghostly means, because the organ is found to be broken inside, therefore unable to be played normally (Gaskell 18). This thought is later underlined when the child, Rosamond, goes missing, and ghosts threaten the household, further emphasizing that a problem exists (Gaskell 20,24). Music is suggested many ways to cause her problems between Miss Furnivall and her sister, Miss Maude, rather than aid the sisters in a solution. Both sisters fell in love with the same man, a foreign musician, whom their father had down from London to play music (Gaskell 26). The sisters develop a rivalry over the foreigner (Gaskell 27). Truss girders were common in early steel bridge construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive. Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. • 40. Types And Types Of Insulin 1 INTRODUCTION Pancreas, an organ that sits behind the stomach, releases hormones into the digestive system. In a healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta cells release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as energy or store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels. There are three major types of Diabetes 1. Type 1 diabetes It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting in no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can also develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin. 2. Type 2 diabetes Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly use the insulin that is released in the body or does not make enough insulin. It more often develops in adults. Type 2 diabetes may be managed through physical activity and meal planning or may also require medications and/ or insulin to control the blood glucose in body. 3. Kozol uses of New York City as an example of the unfair financial inconsistencies towards specific counties or cities in the state. The author argues, the gross discrepancies in teacher salaries between the city and its affluent white suburbs have remained persistent (354). • 42. The Measure Results Of The Data Sets The measure results of the data sets are not surprising. The means of each of the independent variables reflect the arbitrary evaluations of each of these parameters. All the variables have relatively small standard errors compare to their mean. Also, the medians and the means mostly lie fairly close to each other, in another word, the means well indicate the actual distribution of the data sets. One of the possible concerns is that per capita disposable income has both high standard deviation and high variance. This result can be reasonable because of the extreme scatterings of incomes due to demographics, social classes, and other kinds of factors. Furthermore, the inflation rate jumped to 4.1% in 2007 and dropped to 1.7% in 2012, which can also be a factor that causes the change in per capita dollar value, eventually being reflected in the result. The predictors are relatively consistent with the hypothesized model for the values of digital music singles downloaded in the U.S. with the exception of PUI, the percentage individuals using Internet. As a percentage variable that oscillates between 0 and 1, it is more difficult to understand exactly how a 1 percent change in the Internet usage would directly impact value of digital music singles downloaded in the U.S. other than knowing that an increase in percentage usage would lead to a decrease in the value of digital music singles downloaded. Although I am against legalizing prostitution, and think it shouldn t even exist, I can see how legalizing it could bring about some positive aspects. Theoretically, there are many positive aspects of legalizing prostitution. For starters, legalization could protect women from abuse and violence by giving them rights that enable them to speak up. Sex trafficking was already a problem before, now they ve just made the matter worse. I would go as far to say that it was encouraged, because now it s a legal business. What most are forgetting is this business is filled with greedy criminals looking for the most profit. This leads to women and children being exploited, and problems are only growing.
