The Human Brain Needs Relationship Essay
Today s adolescents I fear will lose sight of human connection and how that human connection
creates the ability to have empathy for others. After conducting my interviews and based on how
I see young people interact what I know is the human brain needs connection to develop
empathy. Our brains are wired to connect with others via mirror neurons and if most
communication and socializing happen through texting and social media our children are at a
great risk to lose that ability to connect physically and emotionally with others. I look forward to
diving into this more in my research paper that I will present in week 5. My first interview was
done with my son, DJ. He is in the 8th grade and comes from a split family. His father and I
separated when he was only three years old and this separation of family was very difficult for
DJ, and he still shows signs to this day of broken attachment. He struggles with emotions,
especially controlling his emotions. DJ was primarily raised by his father and his father s new
girlfriend due to a long legal battle that I won t get into.
DJ was raised with his full blood sister, who is 9 years older than him, and two step sisters, one
who was close to his age and another who was a bit older. He was the only boy in a world full of
women and his father wasn t much of a provider. When he was eleven years old, I was granted
sole custody. DJ has experienced more loss and abandonment than any child should ever have to
face.

Vita E Bella
To Deceive a Child or Not? Roberto Benigni is a very unique writer who sometime uses comedy
to describe the most serious of situations. In the film Vita e Bella, Benigni uses comedy to
describe the events that happened leading up to the Holocaust. The motion picture is set in the
time when Jews were discriminated against in Germany. The main character, Guido, is of Jewish
descent and falls in love with an upper class woman named Dora. As it turned out she was
getting married to someone else and Guido comes and literally sweeps her off her feet on a white
horse at the wedding reception. Eventually the two do get married and have a son named Joshua,
who is a very energetic young boy. As he is growing up, he is oblivious to the... Show more content

Joshua s father is doing the right thing by using his comedic genius to trick his son into
believing the concentration camp is just a game. His action is justified by him being a good
parent and putting his child before himself. Even though Guido unfortunately dies right before
the concentration camp is shut down, he has saved his son. He keeps his son s head up through
the entire ordeal and when he becomes older and mature he realizes what enormous sacrifices
his father made for him. Joshua grows from the experience realizing what a great man his father
is and how he is able to make it through the horrific event alive. В•La Vita e Bella. Dir. Roberto

Sports Marketing and Mobile Technology Essay
Sports marketing has made its way directly to the fans. In the past, only the extremely devoted
fans would check on their teams online but now, the norm has changed. Now the devoted fans
learn new information before anyone else, and even get rewarded for it. In the article The
Passion of the Fan , by Stewart Feil, fans are being rewarded for posting about their favorite
teams on social media. The reason this is possible is because mobile apps have greatly contributed
to the way fans follow their teams. In Sports marketing and technology with the New England
Patriots , by Michael Krigsman, it reveals that fans have the capabilities of sending their favorite
teams their input about the team. The most amazing part is their voice is being... Show more content

on sports, As sports marketing agency Catalyst found in its 2012 Fan Engagement Study, digital

other Internet and social media outlets are now second only to TV as a primary and trusted
source of information for sports fans. People are now relying on social media to find their
information, and they are even spreading the news when they find out. Teams have started to
capitalize on this acquired information. Feil goes into detail to show how the Detroit Pistons have
managed it, A gamified app called SocialToaster that lets registered fans earn points for each item
they repost to their social media feeds; those with the most points receive game tickets, team
merchandise and other incentives. Teams are capitalizing on this opportunity to spread the word
about themselves using prizes as incentives for devoted fans. By using this method, they hope to

Borderlands La Frontera Summary
In this Chapter I feel that Anzaldua is trying to get the reader to understand the differences and
atruggles amongst cultures. The clash of cultures results in mental and emotional confusion. Living
inbetween more than one culture, you often get opposing messages from these cultures. Sometimes
when living within the Chicana culturecommon white beleifs conflict with the beleifs of the
Mexican culture. They both hold beleifs of the indifinous peopel and their culture. It creates a
problem that the dominant cultures views and beleifs are defiant to the others. This is very wrong
because it creats the problem of one being superior to the other. This especially relates to the
Mexican culture and white culture. This creates the assimilation problem when one culture is not
accepted or considered below another. In the book Borderlands La Frontera it states that El choque
de un alma atrapado entre el mundo del espiritu y el mundo de la tecnica a veces la deja entullada.

to have to accept what is and come together, or put dominant culture in the past as a lost cause all

whether these sickness affiliations happen simply after outrageous caloric limitation or whether
they could apply to typical varieties in mother s eating routine. Next we were advised about
continuous research to set up whether identity is resolved before birth. The work is at an early
stage and it is too early to reach any inferences about the impact of the pre birth environment on
identity. This was trailed by an intriguing, however short, discourse of the defensive part of the

Caroline Fall was planning a dietary mediation program. By giving day by day snacks before and

Structural Engineering and Ethical Decision Making Essay
Structural Engineering and Ethical Decision Making
INTRODUCTION
Currently in the state of California, designers employed in the building industry follow the 1997
Uniform Building Code (UBC 97). The UBC 97 is intended to be a minimum requirement for both
engineers and architects to follow in the design of any structural building or bridge. There are
exceptions to the use of the UBC; local jurisdictions have the right to adopt other codes for there
use. For instances some counties or cities may adopt certain ordinances that go beyond the UBC.
The engineer is required to follow the code of the jurisdiction that he/she is building in. However,
if there are other codes in existence that are better, the engineer is expected to be ... Show more

The Other Family By Himani Bannerji
Individuals should learn to accept themselves for who they are, not what society wants them to
accept. As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of
the ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive
identity and personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s
an intricate process. The story The Other Familyby Himani Bannerji is based on a motherand a
daughter who immigrates to Canada. They belong to a black family, but after the immigration they
are living in the dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of
Canada and teacher is considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony
shape but they does not know the awareness of marginalized groups. The mother feels anxious
when she sees a drawing of a white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid
that lead to forget her identity or she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity
of the marginalized individual the beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is
necessary for every school system to teach equality and inclusions of every group status so that the
marginalized group are not left isolated from the society. Secondly, the fear of the marginalized
parents from losing their kids in the mainstream society shows their lack of confidence in their own
cultural pride. Since

The Narrative of the Captivity and the Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, published in 1682,
is formed based on her memory. Rowlandson s captivity narrativecarried great significance in that
it came to be used as a didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist audience back towards God s path
and away from an allegorical wilderness. As a devout Calvinist, Rowlandson believes that her
journey through captivity is a test wrought by her God. Her deep desire to prove herself to her God

Upon returning from pillaging another English town, an Indian offers Mary Rowlandson a gift of a
Bible, which he had stolen from a dead English townsperson. The usage of the word plunder
connoted the violent force used to obtain the Bible. This enhances the significance of the irony
of Rowlandson overlooking the fact that someone was murdered in order for her to receiver her
gift. Rowlandson s Calvinist views, which made her believe that God brought the Bible to her,
outweighed any sympathy for nay anonymous English person, and the intended demographic
(late 15th century Calvinists) of readers of this captivity narrative would have agreed. An
alternative example presents itself when Rowlandson attempts to convince Goodwife Joslin, a
very pregnant captive who was becoming impatient and wanted to go home, not to run away., I
wished her not to run away by any means [...] We opened the Bible and lightened on Psalm 27
[...] Wait on the Lord, Be good of courage, and he shall strengthen thine Heart, wait I say on the
Lord. (4); Rowlandson utilizes her Bible as a tool to steer others into the light of God, whether it
means deteriorating their own safety and health, proving that she will lack sympathy for humans
in favor of devotion to her God. Mary Rowlandson s feelings toward food, even in times of
starvation, are shaped by her belief that God provides (or does not provide) everything. Three
weeks go by, and Mary Rowlandson finds herself

Janet Waking By John Crowe Ransom
The poem, Janet Waking , symbolizes a turning point in a child s life. It starts out with a young
kid in a slumber, and it ends with a mourning of a beloved pet. This shift that John Crowe
Ransom creates shows just how drastic this step in life was. Since the story is told from a father
s point of view, we get to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how
young and undeveloped her mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author
is trying to convey. Throughout the poem, the poet carefully picks and constructs words and
sentences that perfectly give the poem life and meaning. Firstly, the name of the hen is Chucky.
Chucky is most definitely not a common name for a chicken, let alone for a hen.

Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think
they mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are
identity, and self. Identity to me is similar to social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what
that means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that
are constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the familystruggle

Short Story On Solar Eclipse
If there s one thing I know right now, it s that I m not nervous. Then again, I never really get
nervous. I m always thinking about way too much at once. Tests don t get me nervous, roller
coasters don t, not even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a
kidnapper s house by free will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I
have superpowers. Everything comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at
1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things
bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To
my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the total education endorsers they were. In
the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all the information we could find.
When the day came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with masses and masses of
people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed frantic and hysterical. I can
clearly remember the exact expression on the man s face next to us when he realized that he had
bought the wrong glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more attention to
him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn t. The time came for us to slip on our glasses
and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. I stare
for only a few minutes, but then I felt a ray of the sun burn my eyes and before I could close

Disadvantages Of Phonology
INTRODUCTION
In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the
fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of
society should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous
social, personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the
current situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous
time in history.
Phonology, broadly speaking, is that sub discipline within linguistics concerned with the sounds of
language . More narrowly , phonology proper is concerned with the function, behaviour and
organisation of sounds as linguistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within
words: syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as
one strategy when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks
from known words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981).
Thomas Gunning 1974 reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking
/ grouping of sounds makes the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient.
This letter pattern learning is based on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound
clusters and individual sounds. This ability helps child to find out inside words for syllables,
rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and
rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability makes the child successful in using letter sound
knowledge effectively for reading and writing (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981;
Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological awareness skills of segmenting and blending
are the most highly correlated with beginning reading acquisition (Snow 192).
Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological
awareness than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic
awareness is different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has
the ability to notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of
speech (Hodges Harris, 1995; Tunmer, Herriman, Nesdale, 1988; Yaden Templeton,

Monologue For An Onion
Persistence is a central idea in the poems Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim and Wait
for Me by Konstantin Simonov. In the former, Kim describes a person s vain but emotional
attempt to discover the deeper truth inside of something, which is represented by the peeling of an
onion. An onion has layers, just as the concept of truth does. But the irony of trying to gain
something from going deeper into an onion is that the onion has nothing to show or hide, as Kim
writes, Beneath each skin of mine lies another skin: I am pure onion, meaning that despite the
peeler s persistence, there is nothing to gain from a selfish and one sided goal. This ideaof
persistence is presented differently in Simonov s poem. In this poem, a soldier

Write An Essay On The Dust Bowl
Imagine you lived during the time period where poor farming techniques were created, and dust
was being deposited or dropped into your lungs, forcing you to walk slowly down the steps of
death. The phenomenon, the Dust Bowl, took place in the United States during the years around
the 1930 s. It was an event that occurred in the United States, where the area it was taken place did
not have moist soil, healthy crops, and a considerable amount of water. During this time, the soil
was poor, meaning there was a small amount of nutrients in it. From this, it caused the seeds being
planted to wilt, and die.. Compost helps the nutrients and moisture to stay within the soil, in order
to allow the plants to not wither from being over watered or the lack of this liquid.

Database Migration Is The Transportation Of Data From...
INTRODUCTION
Database migration is the transportation of data from existing database to new database. With the
advancement in technologies, upgrade in database data migration has become frequent and change
in legal regularity is also a reason. To cope with better performance of the application and better
outcome to the organization it is critical to achieve the migration in time, budget and allocated
resources. Johny Morris, in [1] related data migration as the selection, preparation, extraction,
transformation, and permanent movement of appropriate data that is of the right quality to the
right place at the right time and the decommissioning of legacy data stores. Migrating data from

The best practice for data migration is to use a tool or process that involves iterative approach and
the answer is ETL, which is used during migration to extract data from legacy system then
transform the data in required format and finally load in the target database. Some literatures
verify the saying that ETL is more preferred tool for data migration. 41% of projects use ETL, on
the second spot of most popular techniques being hand coded solutions with 27% [5]ETL has
consolidated tools support[6]. The success of ETL tools is also due to the fact that Business
Intelligence and Data Warehousing makes use of this paradigm [7].
[8] Discussed a substantial escalation in data quality based on the observation of statistical analysis
before and after using automated ETL.
After successful migration, the main issue lies with the integrity of quality data at target database
which is done by data validation testing. A few of the existing methodologies of data validation
testing is discussed in brief here in which some follows manual approach and other uses automated
approach with their limitations.
Some ongoing methodologies include:
1.Lines of code
This is the simplest process for validation data. It uses COUNT operator and counts number of
lines in both legacy and target databases and then compares them. If the rows in both databases are
equal then it is considered as successful migration.

The Service Of Service Design
We have learnt from Servicer Strategy that service means to provide guidance on design, and
how to implement them according to the needs of the customer. From the service lifecycle
Service Design comes after the service strategy (Annexure A). The service design is not limited
to new services, but also to old services which are need to improve the service design which are
necessary to maintain the value to customers. The main objective of service design is designing an
innovative idea or to change an existing design into a live environment. To change a design or to

They said that design is moving closer to the social innovation linking its characteristics at different
levels. For example, service and relationships to social needs or improving life conditions and
social situations.
In order to successfully implement the plan of design or projects of service management there has to
be efficient use of 4P s: The People, the Process, the Products and the Partners. To function the
service management, the 4P s must be overlapped to each other. There should balance between all
the 4P s to ensure safe and appropriate design. The design approach must be comprehensive,
because most of the problems faced by the organizations are focus on the functional requirements.
The design architecture should be considered from all the aspects. Therefore, there are several
design aspects, they are: Service level management, Availability management, Service catalogue
management, Security management, Capacity management, IT service continuity management.
Service Level Management:
Service level management is an important link between IT and business. Service level provides
a good foundation for good quality service, cost reduction IT services and ensuring compliance
with the service goals and customer s expectations. An effective service level system will always
ensure that the key aspects are met in time where risks is not into picture. For an effective

Using The Method Of Heat Shock
Introduction:
Genetic Transformation is the process by which a segment of DNA of a specific organism is
implanted into another organism that reads the foreign organisms DNA and presents the phenotype
for the selected DNA segment. The genetic transformation can occur using three different methods,
but in the case of the experiment conducted and described below, was performed using the method
of heat shock. In the experiment, heat shock was used to genetically transform a piece of DNA from
a jellyfish into a sample of E. coli bacteria to observe if the transformation would occur. The
components necessary for the transformation were: pGLO, a plasmid acting as a vector for the
transformation and contained the DNA segment extracted from jellyfish that encodes for the
production of a protein that glows (GFP); Luria Bertani broth, the culture for the transformation;
Ampicillin Resistant gene, to sort cells so only the cells having absorbed plasmid will survive;
Arabinose, a sugar to aid in the growth of bacteria. The genetic transformation was tested using four
samples, each having a different environment. The first sample s environment consisted of +pGLO,
the Luria Bertani broth, and a gene resistant to Ampicillin. The second sample s environment
consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, a gene resistant to Ampicillin, and arabinose. The

Keeping Up With The Brady Family Research Paper
Every family s values and beliefs are different from each others. Some things that are normal to
one family, can be something crazy to another. This all depends on how a person was raised, and
what values and roles were taught to them. Through the ups and the downs every family goes,
people react differently and their true nature comes out. An example of this is displayed in the
two shows The Brady Bunch and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. While they are both big
families, they are very different. Keeping Up With The Kardashians is an American reality TV
show about a crazy and loud blended family. This television show documents every part of their
lives, from the silly random moments, to the most intimate ones. Since this family is living... Show

As we see in the episode, Confessions, Confessions, the children in the family put aside their
personal issues and put family first, and help their brother Peter out of a situation. While playing
ball in the house after being told not to by their mother, Peter breaks his mom s favourite vase.
Making matters worse, he has a camping trip coming up that he really wants to go to which will
be put in jeopardy if his parents find out. His siblings commit a selfless act, and take the blame
regardless of the fact that they will suffer consequences for breaking the vase. Similarly, the
Kardashian/Jenner clan put family first through hard times. This is specifically seen in season 10,
episode 10, About Bruce. This is when Bruce Jenner was transitioning into Caitlyn Jenner. While
knowing that this will be a controversial and public issue in the media, and dealing with how it
will affect the family, they did not leave Caitlyn s side once. Since they are a very public family,
they knew many people would have different opinions about this and would judge them.
Regardless, they put their fame aside and put family first by standing by her and supported her

The Epidemic Of Obesity And Obesity
There s an appalling epidemic in today s society sweeping across not only the United States, but
all across the globe. This horrible epidemic isn t the bird flu, or any type of sickness, rather
obesity. Today, obesity rates are at an all time high in America. This disease, obesity, is being
passed down the family both genetically, and by the terrible eatinghabits developing in the US.
Kids growing up in this generation are facing frightening issues such as increased risk of heart
disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., the list goes on. Zinczenko proves this in his text
Don t Blame the Eater, when he says, Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by
a genetic disorder Only about 5 percent of childhood causes were obesity related, or Type 2,
diabetes. Today, according to the National Institute of Health, Type 2 diabetes accounts for at
least 30 percent of all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country. (Zinczenko 463) The sad
part about it, is these kids more time than not, are born into these types of situations. There s no
surprise that obesity rates in America are directly correlated with the increasing amount of fast
food chains popping up on every street corner. These fast food restaurants are masters of the art of
advertising, and are using it as the strongest way of increasing sales. This is very dangerous
because not all advertisements are true, despite what the common American might think, and it can

Iran Pros And Cons
Under Supreme Leader Khamenei; moderate President Rafsanjani; and reformists President
Khatami, the Iran nuclear program received support in the 1990s from China, Russia, and the
A.Q. Khan network. China and Iran signed an agreement in 1990 and subsequently imported a
metric ton of uranium hexafluoride, a feed gas for gas centrifuges, from China in 1991.
According to certain safeguard agreements in place, Iran was supposed to report the transfer to
the IAEA but they did not. However, support from the Chinese stopped in 1992 after China joined
the Nuclear Suppliers Group and succumbed to U.S. pressures. These measures forced the Iranians
to seek assistance from the A.Q. Khan network again; therefore, Iran purchased more drawings and
components for 500 P 1 centrifuges and drawings for the upgraded P 2 centrifuges. Russia also
supported the Iranian nuclear program in the 1990s. In the mid 1990s, picking up where the

weapon, which are highly enriched uranium (HEU) and plutonium. Assuming there are no other

at Arak. The website also mentions that Iran currently possesses enough HEU to produce eight
nuclear bombs, and that it possesses 20,000 centrifuges between the previously mentioned Natanz

or below the 3.67% while reducing the number of centrifuges to 6,104 for at least the next 10
years. Additionally, the deal addresses concerns about future secret facilities, specifying that Iran is
subject to exceptionally vigorous monitoring, verification, and inspection measures as well as
allowing the IAEA access to any suspected nuclear

The Invention Of Phase Contrast Microscopy By The Nobel...
Abstract
In the last century with the invention of phase contrast microscopy by the Nobel Prize winner Frits
Zernike, nucleoli were among the most con spicuous structures. The nucleolus was first de scribed
between 1835 and 1839, but it had to go through another century before it was discovered to be
related with a specific chromosomal locus, which marked it as a cytogenetic entity.1
At the end of the 18th century, Montgomery was the first to publish the monumental monograph,
which included color figures of nuclei and nucleo li.1
Based on the Montgomery work, further studies where conducted to analyze the function of the
nucleolus in the next century. In fact himself has studied nucleoli in the oocytes of over 175 differ
ent species and had approached at three re markable conclusions that still hold true today: 1) In one
cell there can be more than one nucleolus;
2) Cells with higher growth are presented with more and larger size;
3) The last conclusion was, the size of the cells interfere with the size of nucleolus.2
After the 1960 numerous discovers made a huge impact in the modern science, one of these is the
study on the rRNA which lead to the conclusion that the nucleolus is the site of ribosomal RNA
synthesis and nascent ribosome assembly.1
In the early 70s it was observed that the ribonu cleoprotein precursors to ribosomes contain two
classes of protein. The difference between these proteins was thought to be that one class could be
recognized as ribosomal proteins,

Emily Grierson s Time
Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for
her, she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She
avoided any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without
her. The story takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took
place some time between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some
problems for Miss Emily. That was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change
for the South. Not only did the South have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from
agriculture to factories with almost the same pace. Most of the people in Jefferson had someone
to go through these changes with, but Emily did not. Clearly her father was wealthy. He would

Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone

accept the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with

Faulkner grew up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he

My Personal Communication Philosophy
My personal communication philosophy includes two factors that will support improved
comprehension among those attempting to connect. The following paper will discuss these two
elements: merging communication styles to aid in understanding and communication intent vs.
perception.
Everybody, either knowingly or unknowingly, utilizes a preferred communicationstyle. My style is
centered on merging my preferred communication techniques with the communication style of
those to which I am relating. We all have preferred methods to send and receive information. If you
choose not to communicate with someone utilizing a method that they appreciate and understand,
your message will not be understood, heard or valued.
I communicate in a very practical, concise way. Give me the facts, make it simple and I will
happily receive your communication. I once worked with an individual who did not appreciate facts
or concise conversations. She preferred large, sweeping hand gestures, flowery stories and lengthy
conversation to communicate a concept. She and I have very different communication styles. I
quickly learned that if I used my concise techniques, she did not understand nor appreciate the
conversation. If I wanted to effectively communicate with her, I had to adopt her style, tempo and
verbosity. Once I adopted this method, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Chomsky s The Role Of Media
Noam Chomsky (1997) begins his critique of the role of media in politics with presenting his
readers with the question: What kind of society do we want to live in, and in particular in what
sense of democracy do we want this to be a democratic society? (9) He then poses two
conceptions of democracy: one where the public has the means to participate in the management of
their own affairs and the means of information are open and free; or the second conception where
the public must be barred from managing their affairs and the means of information is kept narrow
and controlled (Chomsky, 1997, 9). Admittedly, this is a strange way to define democracy;
however, Chomsky (1997) urges us to understand that the latter is the prevailing conception that his
been in that way in theory for a long while (10). Throughout the rest of Media Control: The
Spectacular Achievements of PropagandaChomsky examines American propaganda efforts and
discusses how both major political parties use the falsification of history, suppression of
information, and promotion of meaningless discourse to stifle questions about U.S. policy.
Early History of Propaganda
Chomsky (1997) uses, what he calls, the first modern government propaganda operation, the Creel
Commission, to identify that the opinions of a population can be easily manipulated with a few
well timed messages and slogans. Woodrow Wilson was elected president using the Peace Without

As the senior class this year, our class decided to bug the junior highers by forming BUG groups.
BUG, standing for Buddies Under God , was designed with the purpose of leading the junior
highers by example. The world and those who don t have a saving knowledge of Christ, look at
the Church. The impression they should see is one that results from following Christ s example.
They should see people who are full of the love of Christ. As leaders everyone should lead by
example, but the example that you use must be based on the Bible. It is foolish to believe that
people will want to do what they are told to do unless the leader is willing to do what he has asked
of his followers.
In addition to, and perhaps even more important than, leading by example is leading through
serving. Servant leadership at first thought sounds like an oxymoron. Popular opinion believes
that the leader is supposed to have people who serve him. But if we are to follow Christ s
example we must first serve. Quite possibly the most perfect example of servant leadership is the
well known story of Jesus washing his disciple s feet. The disciples were appalled that Christ would
do such a thing for them because it was a servant s job and Christ was their leader. But because He
washed their feet I am willing to bet that the disciple s respect for Jesus increased greatly. At the

What is leadership? Leadership is both a process and a property. As a process, leadership involves
the use of non coercive influence. As a property, leadership is the set of characteristics attributed to
someone who is perceived to use influence successfully. (Moorhead and Griffin, 1998) This book
was written by Oren Harari, a management professor and consultant. He said he met Powell years
ago after hearing him speak to an audience on his audacious Wall Street Journal speech. He
claimed this speech inspired him to write this great book about the great successor. He also felt a
leader of this magnitude should be admired and heard worldwide. I t was then, Harari began to
write. Harari considers Powell as one of the world s most effective, bottom line leaders.
Throughout this book, Harari displays Powell s key to loyalty, entrusting his staff, valuing opinions
of others, and establishing respect for authority figures. In The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell,
Harari gives a unique perspective on the many roles of Colin Powell and the way he became the
great leader he is today. The book provides excellent food for thought, while describing the
benefits and difficulties faced by managers, supervisors, and leaders at all levels of any kind of

attributes and qualities that bring leaders success, respect, and loyalty. According to Colin Powell,

opinion, arguing the national flag is a valuable asset, and Johnson s action belittled the value of
this important national symbol (Texas v. Johnson, LII / Legal Information Institute). This case did
not change or add any amendments, but the first amendment played a big role in it. The First

freedom of religion, and freedom of speech (First Amendment, Dictionary.com). It protects

It makes the issuer want to retrieve the bonds before the expiry of the allocated time so as to
resell them at lower interest rates. The issuer reserves the right to return investors principal and
stop interest payment before the maturity of bonds, of course at a higher rate than what the bond
was sold at. Due to this reason, the duration is not applicable to callable bonds.
Similar to this, duration has no applicability in the case of common stocks and real estate. It is
because a common stock is the subject of high risk due to fluctuations in prices. In the event of
stocks, investors will tend to sell stocks any time when their price is higher than prices on the date

their prices increase. Due to this reason, period or maturity term is not applicable in common

b) Describe the way duration is used and how it is adjusted with convexity? The most popular way
in which duration is employed by the investors is to measure the volatility of the bond or any other

An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St.
Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read
Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied.
Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed.
The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect
against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair
abuses of the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against
criticism from Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The

In human nature there exists a morbid desire to explore the darker side of life. As human beings

beneath the floorboards is riveting. You feel that the heart is really beating; it s not just the
imagination of a madman. The narration is done totally in the first person and never gives the sex
of the person. The narrator is described as the caretaker of an old man. This technique allows the
reader to identify with the narrator/murderer and assume the caretaker is the same sex as the
reader. When women read the Telltale Heart most feel the narrator is a woman, as most caretakers
are women. When a man reads this story he believes that the narrator is a man, for most murderers
are men. Poe puts good against evil through sharp contradictions in the story. The old man s
deformed eye represents evil, yet the narrator describes him as never wronging her or insulting her.
The narrator insists she is not crazy, but then commits

Theodore Roethke The Slough Analysis
The Slough, by Theodore Roethke, spoke to me in a way I could relate. Based on my experience,
I felt a sense of random reverie ending with a search for answers to timeless, unanswered
questions. Furthermore, I have a passion for nature and I like how the poet used association with
flora and fauna to provide a visual display among the confusion.
The other deciding factor was I found this poem easy to read at a nice steady pace with rhythm,
rhyme and minimal variations in pitch and volume required. The poet refers to himself in a third
person; therefore, leads me to believe he was pondering life within his thoughts, rather than actually
speaking aloud. The words came across as random thoughts, a daydream of sorts. Therefore, with

Cinderella And Sexton s Cinderella
Cinderella is one of the most well‐known stories in the country. She is a beautiful young woman
that is treated badly but in the end lives happily ever with a prince. Almost every culture has a
Cinderella story, with different culture details. The Walt Disney Cinderella is strong, and romantic,
where the character Cinderellagoes through so much with the stepsisters and stepmother and end up
living happily ever after. However, in Anne Sexton version of Cinderella , the stepsisters were
violently punished for mistreating Cinderella. Even though the Walt Disney Cinderella and Sexton
s Cinderella are similar in the names, contact with the prince, and themes, they differ in their
cultural details, godmother figures, and magical
transformations.

In This Class I Have Learned That Sociology Is Everywhere.
In this class I have learned that sociology is everywhere. I got a better understanding of how our
life chances and shape by social structure and how it could have affected our self and society. We
get understand where the people come from and understanding of behaviors and struggles of other
people. We all watch movies right? Well in the movies they also replicate and show the understand
of sociologyeven the movies that are base on true story. I watched two different movies such as
Stand and Deliver and The Color People, that demonstrated the sociology perspectives that I have
learned. The movies are good way to manifest learning and teach us how the world views

Stand and Deliver can even been seen as an example of functionalism, a group whose values,
beliefs, norms, and related behaviors place its member in opposition to the broador culture ( ).
Also in the film women of the Hispanic race are portrayed to drop out of school because in the
Hispanic culture woman are expected to stay home, be homemaker and care for the children.
Parents also are a factor in Hispanic culture that they question are motives to have an education.
That men didn t like women that are smarter and of course independent. This factors are betray in
the movie, and also in real life is the Hispanic culture. Through out the movie you see difficulties
that the students are trying to finally fit to be part of the system but they still may not be accepted
because of their classes. With low achieving school, have a suspicious amount of high test scores
the reliability and dependability are questioned. Conflict theory is used that the struggle in society

computers, no air conditioning for summer and less opportunities for students in general. The
school is portrayed as a place where students do not want to be or care about being in school. The
staff don t care about the students especially they gave up on them. There is a quote that I got from

How Global Warming Will Affect Human Health Essay
How Will Global Warming Affect Human Health?
Introduction:
Certain threats to human health loom larger with rising temperatures. Extremely hot temperatures
can cause heat illnesses and loss of life. Several vector borne diseases only occur in warm areas,
and an increase in temperature could mean a spread of these diseases to larger areas. Also, warm
temperatures can increase levels of air pollutants, including ozone, which can harm human health.
Direct Effects:
The most direct way that a rise in global mean temperature will affect human health is through a
more frequent occurrence of heat waves. Heat can seriously harm or even kill during a heat wave.
Extremely high temperatures push the human body beyond its ... Show more content on

Increased temperatures also effect people psychologically. Violent crimes and spousal abuse occur
more in summer than winter, in hot cities than in cooler cities, and on hotter days than on cooler
days. Between 1980 and 1982 in Houston, murders and rapes were more common on days over 91
degrees Farenheit. In laboratory experiments, people working in a hot room react to provocation
with greater hostility.
Diseases:
Global warming may increase the risk of some infectious diseases, like malaria, dengue fever,
yellow fever, and encephalitis. These diseases are spread by mosquitoes and other insects, and
could become more common if a rise in temperature allows those insects to live farther north.
Also, the increase in rainfall that is likely to occur with an increase in global temperature would
serve to help increase the reproduction of the vectors. In February 1999, Britain s Institute of
Animal Health linked outbreaks of the lethal horse fever virus in Africa to the El Nino
phenomenon. The warming and increase in rainfall in Africa caused by El Nino led to many more
horses being bitten by infected vectors. The scientists said their research shows this pattern is
likely to happen with other vector borne diseases when global warming occurs. Increased
temperatures could also reduce the gestation periods of disease vectors, which could aid the
breeding of strains resistant to pesticides. Scientists also hypothesize that algae

Sensitive Periods
Sensitive Periods Define the term sensitive periods Sensitive periods are a period in a child s life
where they are obsessed with certain aspects of learning without any particular reason. This
period is an optimum time for development and children can really develop specific abilities and
skills. When children are in their sensitive periods and working with any activity, they will not
show any signs of fatigue and will repeat the activity a number of times. These periods last for a
certain amount of time; however the child may eventually lose interest and may move on to another
activity. Development changes will not occur unless there is some kind of maturational process. It
is essential to support the child s sensitive period... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E.g. A child may indentify similar qualities using colour box 2. Explain why it is important to
support and facilitate these periods It is important to support and facilitate this period because a
child may need support to carry out a task independently so they can fulfil their sensitive period.
E.g. If a child is carrying out a task they might need material to support them. Montessori quoted,
Such assistance will not consist in forming the child since this task belong to nature himself, but
in a delicate respect for the outward manifestations of this development and in providing those
means necessary for his formation which he cannot be obtain by his efforts alone. (Montessori,
1966, p.46). Also by preparing for the environment you are supporting the child s sensitive
period. E.g. For sensitive period of order, the teacher would make sure the objects are kept in the
same place and area. Overall, these periods of sensitivity play a vital role on the development of
a child and without the support from teachers the child may exhibit deviations in his personalities.
Outline any adverse consequences of not recognising If a child is deprived of supporting his
development he may exhibit deviations in his personality because his psychic life is disturbed and
may show signs of attachment, possessiveness, desire of power, fear, complex and lies. Through

Group Reflection Essay
Participation in group discussions has been a weakness for me, but I have communicated with
my PIE group everyday to discuss homework and exams. Although I was not a leader in the
classroom, I did serve as leader in my tri pie and I took initiative to talk to Mrs. McMillan about my
speech and group. I believe I deserve a 90/100 in my communicationand participation skills.
With my tri pie, I would remind them everyday for homework, projects, and exams. I would
explain any questions they would have and provide extra info and study guides for them. For
example, I would insist that they do the quizlet I created for Freshmen and Sophomore
vocabulary everyday for at least 15 minutes a day. I also used videochat to help both of my
members for presentation and speeches. We would practice for at least 30 minutes for any
presentation, such as the Side Project. As a result, we got a 38/45. We took advantage of break
by practicing our part during that time. This helped us improve our abilities and skills on
presentation because I would give my perspective on our group s strengths and weaknesses.
From this communication, I decided to create a group chat called Carrot Juice to discuss our
problems and how we could solve them by working together. One of the problems we had was
our grade checks, so we used our group chat to message each other when to meet up, such as at
break. By doing this, we were familiar with each other and our communication began to grow
because we began using this social platform more often. When one of our PIE members was absent,
we would use this group chat to collect and turn in their homework even though they were not there.
Furthermore, I communicated with Mrs. McMillan about my speech and how I could improve on it.
I took her notes into consideration about my posture and engagement with the audience. I asked
her how I could improve my specific flaws, which resulted in me choosing a different story in my
fifth attempt. Because of Mrs. McMillan s advice, I received an all perfect on my speech.
Additionally, I asked McMillan s advice on how I could further support my group because I
believed a person with year s of experience would be more helpful than doing it alone. I discussed

The Mythology Of The Iliad
In The Iliad, the Olympian Gods were depicted as a group of individuals who were still
completely vulnerable to mistake and harm despite their great power. Zeus was one, if not the
biggest and most powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a
mighty, dominant, and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness
and sometimes, the lack of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs,
which eventually led to many problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is
a representation of how ancient Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of
power and capabilities, but they have the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the
Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more
human than actual humans would act. They would think, act, speak, and do other things just like a
human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods and human is their immortality, power and
authority over things. Compared to the gods found in Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their
decisions and action without principle but feelings and their personal opinion. Greek God are
known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant things, showing a very close
relationship with human behavior. These characteristics of Greek Gods are probably generated due
to the lack of need to thrive and survive since they are immortal and

Operation Market Garden
They did not heed Major Urquhart. The Medical Officer visited him shortly after his warning and
sent him on medical leave for stress. In addition, the 15th Army was not in full retreat and instead
escaped the Allied pursuit and arrived to engage along the route. The terrain and weather played
an enormous role in the failure of the operation. The plan for the armored advance required the
XXXth Armored Division to move the sixty five miles up a narrow two lane road bordered by
farmland that had been swampland in the past. The importance of this is that any incident that
required the armor to leave the road was especially time consuming due to the marshy conditions.
This armored movement also depended on each of the bridges to be intact but... Show more content

From the beginning, things went wrong for the division. During the transit to the landing zone
two of the gliders were lost, these gliders contained anti armor guns. Missing the landing zone,
the British soldiers landed too far from the bridges. The additional distance needed to reach the
bridge allowed the German defenders time to prepare. Despite this, the 1st Airborne Division
was able to take the northern end of the Arnhem Bridge. A combination of German preparation
time and the lack of sufficient British numbers prevented the capture of the Southern end of the
bridge. This left the British troops in between two forces. The second wave of airborne set to
arrive the next day and reinforce the assault were delayed. The predictions from the Allied
Meteorologists proved optimistic and on Monday 18th September, the weather effectively
disrupted much of the air operations and the take off of the second wave in England was delayed.
The reinforcements did not arrive until much later in the day and met a much larger German
defense supported by Panzers. The 1st Airborne Division held the north end of the bridge for six
days before withdrawing. Weather delayed the third wave of support until 23 September. The troops
had only gone into the operation with 48 hours worth of ammunition and food. Driven from
Arnhem, the British troops received the order to withdraw across the Rhine River. On the night of 25

George Orwell s Use Of Pathos In Politics And The English...
George Orwell uses pathos in Politics and the English Language. He does this to evoke emotion
from the reader. The author s manner of using pathos is well done. Throughout his paper, the author
uses pathos in examples and specific wording. Throughout the paper s entirety, the paper elicits
feelings of inferiority and stupidity. Whether the author intended this or not is unclear. Yet, it is
clear that the manner in which the author speaks uses pathos a lot. At the start of the paper, there
are many usages of pathos. For instance, the author writes about how a man feels like a failure.
This phrase is an instance of pathos. The phrase provides an example of a feeling. Furthermore, the
author writes that English can be an ugly language. Pathos

Effect Of Religion In Art History
Cause and Effect of Religion in Art History
Ryan Hernandez
Lamar Community College Abstract
Religion is everywhere and it has made its impact on human life. It has changed the way humans
think, act, and live. Artists during the renaissance era gravitated to do more paintings about their
own beliefs. This paper will explain how different artists have different beliefs and different ways
of expressing themselves.
Finding what is important is significant to artists and architects. Religion became very important to
people all over the world, including artists and architects. Around the year A.D. 33, Jesus Christ
died. The teachings of Christ established Christian religion. Christianity spread and it made a
gigantic impact on Western ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People all had to worship in a private home until the early fourth century A.D. Constantine made
Christianity legally protected from persecution and it soon became the religion of the Roman
Empire. The large and fast growing Christian community needed new buildings to accommodate
them, so they started building Roman basilicas. The Roman basilica became the basis for architects
to design new churches. With Constantine s support, many churches were constructed throughout
the Roman Empire. Christianity also inspired centrally planned churches. These are round
churches that radiated around from a central point and was topped off with a dome. Christianity
did not only change religion, but it changed architecture as well. In the fifth century, emperor
Justinian recaptured the Roman Empire from Ostrogoths in A.D. 540. The Eastern Empire rose to
political and artistic importance under the rule of Justinian. Ravenna became the Italian center for
his empire because of its strategic location and it was an essential port for trade. The city is home
to the San Vitale church which was dedicated to Saint Vitalis. The church s exterior is faced with
brick and the inside is decorated with mosaics and marble. It also has amazing details in its interior

  • 2. The Human Brain Needs Relationship Essay Today s adolescents I fear will lose sight of human connection and how that human connection creates the ability to have empathy for others. After conducting my interviews and based on how I see young people interact what I know is the human brain needs connection to develop empathy. Our brains are wired to connect with others via mirror neurons and if most communication and socializing happen through texting and social media our children are at a great risk to lose that ability to connect physically and emotionally with others. I look forward to diving into this more in my research paper that I will present in week 5. My first interview was done with my son, DJ. He is in the 8th grade and comes from a split family. His father and I separated when he was only three years old and this separation of family was very difficult for DJ, and he still shows signs to this day of broken attachment. He struggles with emotions, especially controlling his emotions. DJ was primarily raised by his father and his father s new girlfriend due to a long legal battle that I won t get into. DJ was raised with his full blood sister, who is 9 years older than him, and two step sisters, one who was close to his age and another who was a bit older. He was the only boy in a world full of women and his father wasn t much of a provider. When he was eleven years old, I was granted sole custody. DJ has experienced more loss and abandonment than any child should ever have to face. We work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vita E Bella To Deceive a Child or Not? Roberto Benigni is a very unique writer who sometime uses comedy to describe the most serious of situations. In the film Vita e Bella, Benigni uses comedy to describe the events that happened leading up to the Holocaust. The motion picture is set in the time when Jews were discriminated against in Germany. The main character, Guido, is of Jewish descent and falls in love with an upper class woman named Dora. As it turned out she was getting married to someone else and Guido comes and literally sweeps her off her feet on a white horse at the wedding reception. Eventually the two do get married and have a son named Joshua, who is a very energetic young boy. As he is growing up, he is oblivious to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joshua s father is doing the right thing by using his comedic genius to trick his son into believing the concentration camp is just a game. His action is justified by him being a good parent and putting his child before himself. Even though Guido unfortunately dies right before the concentration camp is shut down, he has saved his son. He keeps his son s head up through the entire ordeal and when he becomes older and mature he realizes what enormous sacrifices his father made for him. Joshua grows from the experience realizing what a great man his father is and how he is able to make it through the horrific event alive. В•La Vita e Bella. Dir. Roberto Benigni. In the past, only the extremely devoted fans would check on their teams online but now, the norm has changed. Now the devoted fans learn new information before anyone else, and even get rewarded for it. In the article The Passion of the Fan , by Stewart Feil, fans are being rewarded for posting about their favorite teams on social media. The reason this is possible is because mobile apps have greatly contributed to the way fans follow their teams. In Sports marketing and technology with the New England Patriots , by Michael Krigsman, it reveals that fans have the capabilities of sending their favorite teams their input about the team. People are now relying on social media to find their information, and they are even spreading the news when they find out. Teams have started to capitalize on this acquired information. Feil goes into detail to show how the Detroit Pistons have managed it, A gamified app called SocialToaster that lets registered fans earn points for each item they repost to their social media feeds; those with the most points receive game tickets, team merchandise and other incentives. Teams are capitalizing on this opportunity to spread the word about themselves using prizes as incentives for devoted fans. The clash of cultures results in mental and emotional confusion. Living inbetween more than one culture, you often get opposing messages from these cultures. Sometimes when living within the Chicana culturecommon white beleifs conflict with the beleifs of the Mexican culture. They both hold beleifs of the indifinous peopel and their culture. It creates a problem that the dominant cultures views and beleifs are defiant to the others. This is very wrong because it creats the problem of one being superior to the other. This especially relates to the Mexican culture and white culture. This creates the assimilation problem when one culture is not accepted or considered below another. In the book Borderlands La Frontera it states that El choque de un alma atrapado entre el mundo del espiritu y el mundo de la tecnica a veces la deja entullada. As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of the ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive identity and personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s an intricate process. The story The Other Familyby Himani Bannerji is based on a motherand a daughter who immigrates to Canada. They belong to a black family, but after the immigration they are living in the dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of Canada and teacher is considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony shape but they does not know the awareness of marginalized groups. The mother feels anxious when she sees a drawing of a white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid that lead to forget her identity or she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity of the marginalized individual the beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is necessary for every school system to teach equality and inclusions of every group status so that the marginalized group are not left isolated from the society. Mary Rowlandson was among these captives, and the resulting captivity narrative, titled The Narrative of the Captivity and the Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, published in 1682, is formed based on her memory. Rowlandson s captivity narrativecarried great significance in that it came to be used as a didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist audience back towards God s path and away from an allegorical wilderness. Upon returning from pillaging another English town, an Indian offers Mary Rowlandson a gift of a Bible, which he had stolen from a dead English townsperson. The usage of the word plunder connoted the violent force used to obtain the Bible. Rowlandson s Calvinist views, which made her believe that God brought the Bible to her, outweighed any sympathy for nay anonymous English person, and the intended demographic (late 15th century Calvinists) of readers of this captivity narrative would have agreed. An alternative example presents itself when Rowlandson attempts to convince Goodwife Joslin, a very pregnant captive who was becoming impatient and wanted to go home, not to run away., I wished her not to run away by any means [...] We opened the Bible and lightened on Psalm 27 [...] Wait on the Lord, Be good of courage, and he shall strengthen thine Heart, wait I say on the Lord. Since the story is told from a father s point of view, we get to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how young and undeveloped her mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author is trying to convey. Well, you should also know that I have superpowers. Everything comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at 1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. Disadvantages Of Phonology INTRODUCTION In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of society should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous social, personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the current situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous time in history. The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within words: syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as one strategy when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks from known words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981). Thomas Gunning 1974 reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking / grouping of sounds makes the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient. This letter pattern learning is based on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound clusters and individual sounds. This ability helps child to find out inside words for syllables, rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability makes the child successful in using letter sound knowledge effectively for reading and writing (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981; Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological awareness skills of segmenting and blending are the most highly correlated with beginning reading acquisition (Snow 192). Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological awareness than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic awareness is different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has the ability to notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of speech (Hodges Harris, 1995; Tunmer, Herriman, Nesdale, 1988; Yaden Templeton, ... In the former, Kim describes a person s vain but emotional attempt to discover the deeper truth inside of something, which is represented by the peeling of an onion. An onion has layers, just as the concept of truth does. But the irony of trying to gain something from going deeper into an onion is that the onion has nothing to show or hide, as Kim writes, Beneath each skin of mine lies another skin: I am pure onion, meaning that despite the peeler s persistence, there is nothing to gain from a selfish and one sided goal. The success of ETL tools is also due to the fact that Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing makes use of this paradigm [7]. After successful migration, the main issue lies with the integrity of quality data at target database which is done by data validation testing. A few of the existing methodologies of data validation testing is discussed in brief here in which some follows manual approach and other uses automated approach with their limitations. For example, service and relationships to social needs or improving life conditions and social situations. In order to successfully implement the plan of design or projects of service management there has to be efficient use of 4P s: The People, the Process, the Products and the Partners. To function the service management, the 4P s must be overlapped to each other. There should balance between all the 4P s to ensure safe and appropriate design. The design approach must be comprehensive, because most of the problems faced by the organizations are focus on the functional requirements. The design architecture should be considered from all the aspects. Therefore, there are several design aspects, they are: Service level management, Availability management, Service catalogue management, Security management, Capacity management, IT service continuity management. • 22. Using The Method Of Heat Shock Introduction: Genetic Transformation is the process by which a segment of DNA of a specific organism is implanted into another organism that reads the foreign organisms DNA and presents the phenotype for the selected DNA segment. The genetic transformation can occur using three different methods, but in the case of the experiment conducted and described below, was performed using the method of heat shock. In the experiment, heat shock was used to genetically transform a piece of DNA from a jellyfish into a sample of E. coli bacteria to observe if the transformation would occur. The components necessary for the transformation were: pGLO, a plasmid acting as a vector for the transformation and contained the DNA segment extracted from jellyfish that encodes for the production of a protein that glows (GFP); Luria Bertani broth, the culture for the transformation; Ampicillin Resistant gene, to sort cells so only the cells having absorbed plasmid will survive; Arabinose, a sugar to aid in the growth of bacteria. The genetic transformation was tested using four samples, each having a different environment. The first sample s environment consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, and a gene resistant to Ampicillin. The second sample s environment consisted of +pGLO, the Luria Bertani broth, a gene resistant to Ampicillin, and arabinose. • 24. The Epidemic Of Obesity And Obesity There s an appalling epidemic in today s society sweeping across not only the United States, but all across the globe. This horrible epidemic isn t the bird flu, or any type of sickness, rather obesity. Today, obesity rates are at an all time high in America. This disease, obesity, is being passed down the family both genetically, and by the terrible eatinghabits developing in the US. Kids growing up in this generation are facing frightening issues such as increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., the list goes on. Zinczenko proves this in his text Don t Blame the Eater, when he says, Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder Only about 5 percent of childhood causes were obesity related, or Type 2, diabetes. Today, according to the National Institute of Health, Type 2 diabetes accounts for at least 30 percent of all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country. (Zinczenko 463) The sad part about it, is these kids more time than not, are born into these types of situations. There s no surprise that obesity rates in America are directly correlated with the increasing amount of fast food chains popping up on every street corner. These fast food restaurants are masters of the art of advertising, and are using it as the strongest way of increasing sales. According to certain safeguard agreements in place, Iran was supposed to report the transfer to the IAEA but they did not. However, support from the Chinese stopped in 1992 after China joined the Nuclear Suppliers Group and succumbed to U.S. pressures. These measures forced the Iranians to seek assistance from the A.Q. Abstract In the last century with the invention of phase contrast microscopy by the Nobel Prize winner Frits Zernike, nucleoli were among the most con spicuous structures. The nucleolus was first de scribed between 1835 and 1839, but it had to go through another century before it was discovered to be related with a specific chromosomal locus, which marked it as a cytogenetic entity.1 At the end of the 18th century, Montgomery was the first to publish the monumental monograph, which included color figures of nuclei and nucleo li.1 Based on the Montgomery work, further studies where conducted to analyze the function of the nucleolus in the next century. In fact himself has studied nucleoli in the oocytes of over 175 differ ent species and had approached at three re markable conclusions that still hold true today: 1) In one cell there can be more than one nucleolus; 2) Cells with higher growth are presented with more and larger size; 3) The last conclusion was, the size of the cells interfere with the size of nucleolus.2 After the 1960 numerous discovers made a huge impact in the modern science, one of these is the study on the rRNA which lead to the conclusion that the nucleolus is the site of ribosomal RNA synthesis and nascent ribosome assembly.1 In the early 70s it was observed that the ribonu cleoprotein precursors to ribosomes contain two classes of protein. (9) He then poses two conceptions of democracy: one where the public has the means to participate in the management of their own affairs and the means of information are open and free; or the second conception where the public must be barred from managing their affairs and the means of information is kept narrow and controlled (Chomsky, 1997, 9). • 42. The Purpose Of The Supernatural In Literary Works The purpose of the supernatural in Literary Works The purpose of the supernatural in literature can vary in function from story to story. The supernatural can be used to create a certain mood in writing or to enhance the dramatic effect of a story. The supernatural can also be used as the reasoning behind a story and act as the theme it centers on, creating a paranormal effect and a mystical experience for the reader. In human nature there exists a morbid desire to explore the darker side of life. As human beings we make every effort to deny our curiosity in the things that frighten us, but deep down we secretly thrive on that cool rush of fear. Despite our efforts to maintain a balance of our emotions, we are a society of people who slow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story again reinforces the severity of defying the supernatural, and the strong belief the puritans held in the actuality of a figurative God and Devil. This story repercussions the idea that there is nowhere to hide from these supernatural powers. Poe uses the supernatural to create a fear and set a mood in his stories. They are dark and always seem to have a surprise lurking around each turn. He reinforces the fear of an overpowering doom that cannot be escaped. In the story, The Telltale Heart, the imagery of a heart beating beneath the floorboards is riveting. You feel that the heart is really beating; it s not just the imagination of a madman. The narration is done totally in the first person and never gives the sex of the person. The narrator is described as the caretaker of an old man. This technique allows the reader to identify with the narrator/murderer and assume the caretaker is the same sex as the reader. When women read the Telltale Heart most feel the narrator is a woman, as most caretakers are women. When a man reads this story he believes that the narrator is a man, for most murderers are men. Poe puts good against evil through sharp contradictions in the story. The old man s deformed eye represents evil, yet the narrator describes him as never wronging her or insulting her. The narrator insists she is not crazy, but then commits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Theodore Roethke The Slough Analysis The Slough, by Theodore Roethke, spoke to me in a way I could relate. Based on my experience, I felt a sense of random reverie ending with a search for answers to timeless, unanswered questions. Furthermore, I have a passion for nature and I like how the poet used association with flora and fauna to provide a visual display among the confusion. The other deciding factor was I found this poem easy to read at a nice steady pace with rhythm, rhyme and minimal variations in pitch and volume required. The poet refers to himself in a third person; therefore, leads me to believe he was pondering life within his thoughts, rather than actually speaking aloud. The words came across as random thoughts, a daydream of sorts. Therefore, with just slight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. How Global Warming Will Affect Human Health Essay How Will Global Warming Affect Human Health? Introduction: Certain threats to human health loom larger with rising temperatures. Extremely hot temperatures can cause heat illnesses and loss of life. Several vector borne diseases only occur in warm areas, and an increase in temperature could mean a spread of these diseases to larger areas. Also, warm temperatures can increase levels of air pollutants, including ozone, which can harm human health. Increased temperatures also effect people psychologically. Violent crimes and spousal abuse occur more in summer than winter, in hot cities than in cooler cities, and on hotter days than on cooler days. Between 1980 and 1982 in Houston, murders and rapes were more common on days over 91 degrees Farenheit. In laboratory experiments, people working in a hot room react to provocation with greater hostility. Diseases: Global warming may increase the risk of some infectious diseases, like malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and encephalitis. These diseases are spread by mosquitoes and other insects, and could become more common if a rise in temperature allows those insects to live farther north. Also, the increase in rainfall that is likely to occur with an increase in global temperature would serve to help increase the reproduction of the vectors. In February 1999, Britain s Institute of Animal Health linked outbreaks of the lethal horse fever virus in Africa to the El Nino phenomenon. The warming and increase in rainfall in Africa caused by El Nino led to many more horses being bitten by infected vectors. The scientists said their research shows this pattern is likely to happen with other vector borne diseases when global warming occurs. Increased temperatures could also reduce the gestation periods of disease vectors, which could aid the breeding of strains resistant to pesticides. Scientists also hypothesize that algae ... • 48. Group Reflection Essay Participation in group discussions has been a weakness for me, but I have communicated with my PIE group everyday to discuss homework and exams. Although I was not a leader in the classroom, I did serve as leader in my tri pie and I took initiative to talk to Mrs. McMillan about my speech and group. I believe I deserve a 90/100 in my communicationand participation skills. With my tri pie, I would remind them everyday for homework, projects, and exams. I would explain any questions they would have and provide extra info and study guides for them. For example, I would insist that they do the quizlet I created for Freshmen and Sophomore vocabulary everyday for at least 15 minutes a day. I also used videochat to help both of my members for presentation and speeches. We would practice for at least 30 minutes for any presentation, such as the Side Project. As a result, we got a 38/45. We took advantage of break by practicing our part during that time. This helped us improve our abilities and skills on presentation because I would give my perspective on our group s strengths and weaknesses. From this communication, I decided to create a group chat called Carrot Juice to discuss our problems and how we could solve them by working together. One of the problems we had was our grade checks, so we used our group chat to message each other when to meet up, such as at break. By doing this, we were familiar with each other and our communication began to grow because we began using this social platform more often. When one of our PIE members was absent, we would use this group chat to collect and turn in their homework even though they were not there. Furthermore, I communicated with Mrs. McMillan about my speech and how I could improve on it. I took her notes into consideration about my posture and engagement with the audience. I asked her how I could improve my specific flaws, which resulted in me choosing a different story in my fifth attempt. Because of Mrs. McMillan s advice, I received an all perfect on my speech. Additionally, I asked McMillan s advice on how I could further support my group because I believed a person with year s of experience would be more helpful than doing it alone. I discussed my ... • 49. The Mythology Of The Iliad In The Iliad, the Olympian Gods were depicted as a group of individuals who were still completely vulnerable to mistake and harm despite their great power. Zeus was one, if not the biggest and most powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a mighty, dominant, and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness and sometimes, the lack of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs, which eventually led to many problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is a representation of how ancient Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of power and capabilities, but they have the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more human than actual humans would act. They would think, act, speak, and do other things just like a human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods and human is their immortality, power and authority over things. Compared to the gods found in Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their decisions and action without principle but feelings and their personal opinion. Greek God are known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant things, showing a very close relationship with human behavior. These characteristics of Greek Gods are probably generated due to the lack of need to thrive and survive since they are immortal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, the 15th Army was not in full retreat and instead escaped the Allied pursuit and arrived to engage along the route. The terrain and weather played an enormous role in the failure of the operation. The plan for the armored advance required the XXXth Armored Division to move the sixty five miles up a narrow two lane road bordered by farmland that had been swampland in the past. The importance of this is that any incident that required the armor to leave the road was especially time consuming due to the marshy conditions. During the transit to the landing zone two of the gliders were lost, these gliders contained anti armor guns. Missing the landing zone, the British soldiers landed too far from the bridges. The additional distance needed to reach the bridge allowed the German defenders time to prepare. Despite this, the 1st Airborne Division was able to take the northern end of the Arnhem Bridge. A combination of German preparation time and the lack of sufficient British numbers prevented the capture of the Southern end of the bridge. This left the British troops in between two forces. The second wave of airborne set to arrive the next day and reinforce the assault were delayed. The predictions from the Allied Meteorologists proved optimistic and on Monday 18th September, the weather effectively disrupted much of the air operations and the take off of the second wave in England was delayed.
