My group chose to do a crime/drama/gangster film opening. They developed multiple ideas and ultimately decided on their final idea. This idea introduces the main character through his body language alone before revealing his face. It then shows another gangster interrogating a bloodied detective seated across from him at a table. As the detective is punched, the film freezes to introduce both characters. It ends with a gunshot followed by a cut to black and the title sequence.

1. My group, Genre and First Ideas
In my group, we have me, Jack and Amy. We all had the idea to do a crime/drama/gangster
film opening because we all enjoy the genre and are very passionate about it. We came up
with multiple ideas and we developed these ideas to create our final idea.
Out first idea was to have only 3 characters in our opening. There would be two cops and a
gangster that is trying to run away from the cops because he has been caught doing
something illegal. The cops will be wearing formal clothing in order to look like they are
higher in society and the gangster will wear bad quality clothes. The cops will be chasing the
gangster and then the gangster will hold one of the cops and the other cop will point his gun
at the gangster and then it will cut to black and the opening credits and title will show
The second idea was similar to the first idea in the sense that there are two cops that are
dressed formally. However, these cops are at a murder scene and are on a smoke break as
they hear a sound that they associate with the murder and a chase occurs. Jump cuts would
be very frequent in this because tension would need to be created. When they corner him,
we would be looking down the barrel of a gun and when it is shot, it cuts to black and the
title sequence begins.
For our third idea that we have decided to have as our final idea we decided to almost flip
the cops and gangsters. We meet the main character but we only see his body so this allows
us to see his mannerisms and his power by the way he walks. We got inspiration to use a
part from Inglorious Bastards when they freeze on a characters face and then they give a
brief introduction on them. We use this for when the main character walks through the door
and this is the first time we see his face. We then have another gangster sitting on an
interrogation table with a detective tied down in a chair with some blood on his face. There
is some dialogue and when the detective gets punched, we again see the freezeframe in
order to introduce him. When the other gangster punches him, we get an introduction on
him as well. We finish we a gunshot and a cut to black into the title.
