Taking a Look at Domestic Violence Essays
Domestic violence is when an intimate partner, such as a spouse or a person you cohabit with;
physical, sexually or psychologically abuses you. Abusers come from all different types of
backgrounds. Domestic Violence affects all races, ethnicities and genders. It occurs in dating
relationships, in marriages, in heterosexual relationships, and in homosexual relationships.
However, it is more common among women, 1of 50 women ages 16 to 24 are victims of intimate
violence, and 10 times as many women are seriously hurt by current or former lovers. (Gelles and
Cornell 1990; Campell 1995/ Marriage, Families and Intimate Relationships). Domestic violence
can be defined as the physical, sexual, verbal emotional or financial abuse between present... Show

The entire cycle may happen in one day or it may take weeks or months. It is different for every
relationship and not all relationships follow the cycle many report a constant state of siege with
little relief.
This cycle has three parts:
1. Tension building phase Tension builds over common domestic issues like money, children or
jobs. Verbal abuse begins. The victim tries to control the situation by pleasing the abuser, giving in
or avoiding the abuse. None of these will stop the violence. Eventually, the tension reaches a boiling
point and physical abuse begins.
2. Acute Battering episode when the tension peaks, the physical violence begins. It is usually
triggered by the presence of an external event or by the abuser s emotional state but not by the
victim s behavior. This means the start of the battering episode is unpredictable and beyond the
victim s control. However, some experts believe that in some cases victims may unconsciously
provoke the abuse so they can release the tension, and move on to the honeymoon phase.
3. The Honeymoon Phase first, the abuser is ashamed of his behavior. He expresses remorse, tries
to minimize the abuse and might even blame it on the partner. He may then exhibit loving, kind
behavior followed by apologies, generosity and helpfulness. He will genuinely attempt to convince
the partner that the abuse will not happen

Security And Security Techniques
Overall information systems hardware, software, networks and data resources need to be
protected and secured to ensure the effective performance of an organization. One security
technique used by organizations to protect their computer systems from security threats is
encryption this is a method used by organizations to send data to others it works by using special
mathematical algorithms to convert the data into scrambled code before transmission and when
the data is received it is decoded when an authorized user accesses it. In my opinion, this is very
effective because it stops people from being able to read or use data if they intercepted it as the is
in a scrambled letter and number form. Another securitytechnique is a firewall this... Show more

Anti virus software and Antispyware Software works by identifying suspicious software based on a
list of known threats it then checks the computer against that list and tells the user if it finds
anything on its list. In my opinion, Anti virus software and Anti Spyware Software is very
effective because it stops malicious software getting onto a computer which could steal or leak
sensitive company data. One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and
passwords to access any equipment, wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded
with unique usernames and passwords for each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an
added layer of security so if someone hacks in they have to get passed the password and it also
allows companies to see what exactly their employees are accessing, also the passwords that are
used should be very strong so the passwords should include numbers, letters and symbols and not
have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which are easy to guess. In my
opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it harder for hackers to
hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they will be able to
see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. One more security technique
is keeping sensitive data out of the cloud, Cloud computing offers businesses many benefits like
being a cheaper way to

Different Types Of Groups Formed For Particular Purposes
For every organization, there are different types of groups formed for particular purposes. The most
common groups are; formal, informal, command groups and committees.
For this particular task, the group was a committee made up of members from different departments
within the company. The key players in the committee were drawn from the human resource (HR)
assistants/specialists, the HR management, and the hospital director along with other senior hospital
administrators. The members mentioned above of the committee where called to discuss and
assess issues regarding the reason for the occasional delay in background check investigations
within the organization which caused a delay in the hiring process. Members of the management
department handle issues regarding how to better manage this process; human resource specialist
were called to handle the logistical issues and the assistants handle issues of suppliers and customer
while members of the management provide direction and inputs in case of disagreements.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the reason behind the delay in completing
background investigations, which had been undergoing problems in recent times. The meeting was
meant to figure out what was causing delays in the completion of background checks and find
solutions to ensure that the issues were thoroughly dealt with and a lasting solution adopted. The
main agenda, of course, being the delays in the process and the steps required to solve the

Music And Its Influence On Music
Introduction:
Music is a very telling form of expression. Whether it is the lyrics themselves, the tone in which
they re said or the rhythm of the music, there are many methods in which music expresses the artist
s opinion to his audience. The introduction of new methods of expression in music by tinkering
with old methods are how new musical ideas are discovered. In the past, Miles Davis explorations
into jazz fusion and modal jazz music pushed the envelope. Now, Kanye West s explorations
through samples, orchestration and rhythms shape the direction of music.
For both Miles Davis and Kanye West, the fields of music (Jazz and Hip Hop) in which they have
had most of their influence are considered to be predominantly dominated with ... Show more

It accomplishes this through providing first hand quotes from Miles himself as well as quotes from
other jazz musicians around Miles, thus also establishing its creditbility.
Perhaps the most useful source of evidence comes from the quote French jazz pianist RenГ©
Urtreger: Miles was proud and touched by the fact that in France, jazz was considered to be very
important music . For in this quote we get a context about just how important jazz is to Parisian
culture. This can speak to our claim that Miles, along with other black music artists, fit into the role
of entertainment to the French. It is only in contexts where the French/ whites decide where black
can gain economic success and recognition. In this instance, it was in the case of Jazz where the
French deemed important and where Miles crossed over into perfectly.
This source also provided some background as to the decreased popularity of Jazz music in
American culture during the same time period with historical information. Yet despite all the
economic success and fame obtained in Paris, Miles s opinion on Paris seemed to be a negative
one as evident in his soundtrack for the film noir Ascenseur pour l Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold),
evidence introduced in the article but will be discussed later in another source.

The Effects Of Autistic Children
Arsham and Ani are parents of an autistic child. Their son s name is Ara, he was diagnosed with
Autism at age 3. Ara had never developed speech, had severe focusing issues, and he had trouble
communicating. Speech therapy hadn t worked for Ara so when a mother of another Autistic child
recommended the GFCF diet Ani jumped at the chance. Within four months of starting the diet, Ara
had significantly improved. Ara was potty trained, had begun reading, speaking in sentences, and
communicating with other children. Autismis a developmental disorder. It impairs a person s

Not only can they help the digestive issues these diets lessen Autistic behaviors. Tailoring a
specially designed balanced diet with appropriate micronutrient supplementation may ameliorate the
severity of autism symptoms and related abnormal behaviors (Meguid, 2015, June 15). The
specific intake of the diets can cause considerable improvements in the child s life. If an Autistic
child can be placed on one of the diets it can prevent digestive issues and reduce Autistic symptoms.
Gluten free, Casein free, Soy free Diet
The gluten free, casein free, soy free diet can improve Autistic children s lives. The GFCFSF is
known as the Autism Diet. It has helped many people with autism spectrum disorders improve their
health and functioning. ASD children usually limit their diet to a few things. Once children are the
diet, they expand their food to include more nutritional choices (Bortfeld, 2017, May 14). These
healthier choices improve the overall nourishment of the child. The nutritional selection also helps
with health issues the child may be suffering from. Research by Dr. Harumi Jyonouchi shows that
91% of people with ASD... who tried a GFCFSF diet reported improvements in GI symptoms and
some autistic behaviors (Bortfeld, 2017, May 14). The diet can have a positive affect
Gastrointestinal (GI) problems and behaviors associated with Autism. These diets can improve an

Rose For Emily Plot
A Rose for Emily is an interesting story about Emily Grierson s life, separated into parts, explained
by the narrator. There are five parts to this story and each of them has a unique significance to the
story. Throughout the story, a plot is developed and told by the narrator. The development of this
plotdirectly shapes the events that take place. Plots vary from story to story, but the basic meaning
is still there. A plot is defined as a sequence of interrelated events that make up its basic narrative
structure. Mostly, plots have a definite beginning, middle and end. Most of the time, a story has a
chronological plot, and in A Rose for Emily s case it is chronological throughout five parts. The
plots purpose is to tell a story, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part two ventures into Emily relationship with a man named Homer Barron, a construction
worker who works on the sidewalks. Emily and Barron s relationship is frowned upon because
of their differences in values, social class, and territorial backgrounds, according to the people of
the town. This is the complication aspect of the plot because the conflict is how the townspeople
think the relationship between Emily and Homer is inappropriate due to social differences and
background. It seems Emily and her family are somewhat royal to the people around town, and
rather wealthy. This is why the townspeople are so nosy into Emily s life, because her and her
family are the talk of the town. Part three has Emily s father pass away, and Emily secluding
herself and then getting sick from it. Emily does not have a cold, more like a mental breakdown
because she lost her father. This is the crisis stage of the plot, because Emily s father died, and it
doesn t seem like she has any other family around, so it was a hard hit. Part four has Emily
according to the townspeople, preparing for her wedding. The townspeople find out about a
possibility of a wedding after Emily is found buying a bunch of men s bathroom items, apparently
there is a correlation. After all of this is found out, Homer Barron leaves town and is not around
until he is seen entering Emily s house and not coming back out. This is the falling action stage of

The Role Of Women In Boccaccio
The Decameron is the first literary work speaking for women in Western literature and
Boccaccio is the first male writer functioning as a spokesman for women by writing this work
especially for women, defending women to have the rights of enjoying sexual pleasure,
demanding the equal rights shared by men and women both at home and in society, and
requesting free love for women. Boccaccio says Heaven would indeed be heaven if lovers were
there permitted as much enjoyment as they had experienced , earth . Boccaccio in the introduction
of his story bespeaks to women: Whenever, fairest women, I pause to consider how compassionate
you all are by nature. (Boccaccio, 148). Giuseppe Mazzotta, in his study, The World at Play in

Tobias Foster Gittes says that: Boccaccio s ideal society is not an orgiastic colony dedicated to
serving the senses nor is it found on the upper reaches of Mount Asinaio where Filippo Balducci
preaches his austere creed of abstinence from all worldly pleasures . (Gittes,29) Marilyn Migiel
asserts that: Boccaccio provides women with the opportunity to speak their desire but the voice of
female desire appears to emerge more clearly when female desire is consistent with male desire .
The centrality of sexual difference is emphasized through the gendering of the narrators in
Boccaccio s masterpiece, which depicts how social and discursive power is divided between sexes.
The fictional storytellers of the Decameron are marked by their gender and by their express views
on sexuality and sexual difference .(Migiel,82) Migiel makes the case that the stories also Appear
to open up the possibility of the expression of female desire at the same time that they describe
severe limits placed on the way in which women can speak out .

smoke ventilation Essay
Smoke Ventilation
Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things.
My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What
pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is
so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment?
Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. You
see, I have a thing about fire. It is one thing that is very interesting to me. Some things that are
interesting about fire is that it grows very fast and it is very dangerous, but that never ... Show more

Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight
a fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that
then they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from
the out side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to
gain access into a structure.
Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is
the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical,
horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they
are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when
dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is
not planned and coordinated correctly.
Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider
when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and
gas. When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the
situation. The

According to Delaney, Thoreau s subtle humor and individualistic philosophy has influenced
White and it can be seen through his writing, including his short fiction. Delaney also said that
White never lost his sense of humor even when dealing with depressing subjects. Most
characteristic of White s short stories is their strange mixture of humor and emotional distress.
In this way he resembles his friend James Thurber. Thurber was a major influence on White, just
as White was on him. Delaney also went on to say that they were both admirers of Henry James,
and that older writer s high literary standards and dedication to his craft are obviously reflected in
White s short stories. White has also been praised for his use of prose style. This makes his
writing flow easily and seem almost effortless. Years before he started working at The New Yorker,
White had started to write stories about a little mouse named Stuart Little and in 1941 he decided he
wanted to finish the stories. In 1945, Stuart Little was published. This novel is about conflict,
coping, persistence, and hope. It s an episodic adventure tale reminiscent of novels in the picaresque
style. A fantasy is also relayed through omniscient third person narration. In this story, Stuart is
challenged by his size and must struggle to complete even the simplest tasks that most people take

Jesse Debenport s Poem Hey Daddy
Loss, glumness, and hurt have you read the poem Hey Daddy ? Jesse Debenport expresses
extensive misery because he lost his father, but we were never told what happened to him. I
believe his father left the family, but intends to still have a relationship with his son. First, I
believe the father left because the way Jesse expresses his emotions makes me infer that his father
can still return, but it s a little uncomfortable to go back to a familythat he left. In the poem, Hey
Daddy(Please Come Back) By Jesse Debenport, Jesse states with strong desire, I ll try and set
aside at least one day a week... So we can hop in the truck and go four wheeling. This shows me
that Jesse s father is still alive because a dead father can t go four wheeling anywhere. This also
tells me that his father can still come back, if they can still go four wheeling together. Jesse also
states, Remind me to give you a hug goodnight I never want you to feel like I m leaving you out

wants his father to remember somethings about him. Also the title tells us his father can come
back because he wants his father to return. People might believe that his father died, but it doesn t
add up. Jesse told his father his feelings and seems to intend for him to read his letter, and there
are no mailboxes at gravesites. It also can t be an emotional letter just to express himself because
Jesse talks about asking his father to spend time with him. This all shows that his father can t be

evil. On the other hand, The Lord of the Flies and The Bad Seed have some differences. First, the
Lord of the Flies focuses on the nurture theory, or the theory that evil is fueled by surroundings,
but The Bad Seed focuses on the nature theory, or the theory that evil is passed down through

High Fidelity Analysis
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995.
Nick Hornby s High Fidelity (1995) details the struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick
Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob
Fleming. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop,
Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart
from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his
girlfriend. Rob s problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and
opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the
most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes
that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob s
numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle
of this protagonist, with Burke s Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent,
Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure
and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob s top five breakups. The list includes
Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The
protagonist is over thirty years old and he decides to create

Essay On Stanislavski
Constantin Stanislavski was known as a Russian direction and stage actor who had discovered
and developed a naturalistic performance technique, which is now known as method acting.
Stanislavski was interested and started to work in the theatre business when he was only 13, and
developed himself into becoming a director (Bishop and Jones). He was born in Moscow, Russia in
1863 and by 1897 he has already developed his own company known as the Moscow Art Theatre,
where performances used method actingand actors were allowed to express their personal
emotions into the piece. Stanislavski was known for his infamous phrases such as stage direction ,
as these were the building blocks of modern opera and helped writers such as Maksim Gorki to
produce his work ( Constantin Stanislavski).
Stanislavski s goals were to make the performances on stage look more natural and more realistic.
This was done through a series of techniques called the the Method ( Constantin Stanislavski ).
Some of these techniques were channeling emotional memory, other were more about the given

The Eagles As A Backup Band For Linda Ronstadt
Better Let Somebody Love you
The Eagles started out as any other band would by strumming their guitars and beating the drums

Linda Ronstadt. The Eagles began as an all American Rock band in Los Angeles in 1971 by band
members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. The Eagles, being number
one in the world in the 70 s, have been given awards for their creativity and meaning in their
music. With five number one singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and
six number one albums (Graff), the Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s.
Their music changed history in their time. Many of their songs on their number one albums got

McArdle was a painter who would go on to paint two very famous paintings, The Battle of San

the same techniques and composition, there are differences in both that make each painting unique.

High Renaissance Art
Three fascinating artists known as Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo marked the stylistic
period of the Italy 1500 to 1600. These three men inspired the high Renaissance. Florence and
Rome hosted the leading artist for that century. I will like to describe a painting of Raphael that
caught my attention from reading the textbook; it is called the Marriage of the Virgin. In this
painting the artists used linear perspective to create the illusion of space in the far back. He
placed the vanishing point of the one point perspective in the doorway of the beautiful painted
round house that is symmetrical on both side. The artists created the plaster in different sizes of
rectangular shapes in red and cream colors to emphasize on the importance of linear perspective
in the painting. If the painting was divided in two parts, the viewer will see that it is symmetric on
both sides. There are thirteen figures on each side of the painting with the high priest being the
middleman placed in the center of the human drama. He also put the figures in groups that relate to
the part they each play in the artwork, this is known as a unified figure group in high... Show more

In the back of the portrait he included a beautiful landscape by incorporating chiaroscuro and
atmospheric perspective. The figure itself is a triangular shape. The artist used different shades
of colors to achieve the smoky look he wanted. The emotion is maintained and well balance; this
can be seen in the way she seated quietly and the gentle smile on the figure. The figure also gazes
directly at the viewer to encage with them. In many cultures women are not allowed to look in the
eyes of men because men are perceive to be dominant and superior over females. During the
renaissance people dictated that women should not do the same, however Leonardo was able to
capture the personality of this woman through her

Essay On Black Men In Public
The stories Black Men in Public and Champions of the World relate to me in similar ways.
Authors Staples and Angelou have had gone through challenging experiences and have been
discriminated and stereotyped; they share my beliefs that we should not judge by someone s
skin color or by appearance. I have not myself been through situations of racism to that extreme
but I have witnessed discrimination and stereotyping. When we first moved to Strasburg it was
difficult for my father to get a good job. I have seen my dad get declined a job because of his
neck tattoo and appearance and not by his knowledge of the job. My father overcame the obstacles
of stereotyping and now has a well paying job up in Stonewall Jackson, VA. Both authors overcome
feeling uncomfortable to the public and altering public spaces, and they rise and move along with
life, as I did myself, trying to understand rather than judge, trying to build tolerance and acceptance
rather than disharmony and anger. Both the stories relate to discrimination and segregation amongst
African Americans. In the story Black Men in Public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Odysseus Punishment Essay
Punishments follow actions. Sometimes they are not always fair or well deserved, but other times
they are essential to learn right from wrong. In our society, all crimes have punishments; however,
the punishment depends on the severity of the crime. In our culture, it is important to have
consequences following deplorable actions because if there is no discipline for poor decisions it
would establish these poor decisions to be acceptable. In every confrontation there are always two
sides. In the epic, The Odyssey, written by Homer, two evident sides are that of which the suitors
and Odysseus. Some readers say Odysseus s punishmenttowards the suitors was too unexpected and
too extreme; others disagree, saying the suitors deserved what... Show more content on

As stated above, there is always more than one opinion. Although some feel Odysseus tactics
were excessive. For one thing, out of the one hundred and eight suitors total not even half of them
participated in shenanigans that kept reoccurring. Not all of them deserved to die. Many were
bystanders, but they still did not choose to leave after being warned. Antinous, the corrupt leader
of the suitors, was malicious, impolite, and disrespectful. He set the tone for the rest of the suitors
and many of the suitors followed his lead. Since they had a cruel, harsh leader the suitors also
acted like this. Lastly, the most extreme form of punishment is death. While suitors were begging
for forgiveness, Odysseus showed no mercy and slaughtered all of them. As stated above, there are
many reasons why a reader would pick either side of this argument.
Omen s are not meant to be taken lightly. Normally when one gives a warning it is best to believe
what he or she may be saying and do the right thing. In this case, the suitors had been warned to
evacuate Odysseus palace. This omen was not only to warn the suitors, but it was given to try to
protect the suitors from Odysseus s wrath. After twenty years of trying earnestly to return home,
Odysseus discovers that over one hundred men have been living in his house, drinking his wine,

The Life and Political Career of James Madison Essay
The Life and Political Career of James Madison
James Madison is most widely known as the father of the Constitution. It is a title deeply deserved
on many accounts (Wills 37). Although his many achievements at times are overshadowed by his
work on the Constitution, Madison s life reflects a legislative talent (Wills 3). Through his interest
in politics, he was able to shape the forming nation. Education, illness, and religion dominated the
beginning of James Madison s life; the experiences enabled Madison to write the Constitution as
well as a number of influential essays in response to his views on the incompetent confederacy.
Madison challenged the ideas of the Anti federalists through his strong arguments and rhetoric, ...

Partly because of ill health, but also suiting his bookish nature, Madison spent the years prior to the
American Revolution studying where he resumed his investigations of government (Sheldon 25).
Through these investigations, Madison found himself being drawn down into the real turmoil of
Virginia politics, inflamed by the impending revolution (Sheldon 26).
Madison s high education and religious morals later shaped his political career, while his own ideas
center around a religious emphasis. Garrett Sheldon, who specializes in political philosophy,
analyzed the religious influences in James Madison s ideas. Madison s naturally studious
inclinations meshed nicely with the reformed Christian emphasis on learned faith (2). His
writing often reflected the thoughtful religious faith, reverence for Scripture, and view of his
political career as a divine calling (3). Madison used religious ideals in his reasoning. His ideas
came from Protestant theology, and Madison, under the teaching of the Presbyterian minister,
kept notebooks on his studies of John Locke, Plato, Fontenelle, and Euclid (3 4). His education
was full of Christian beliefs as well as political studies. Madison was guided by the Christian
realist views of man s weak, sinful nature and followed the Calvinist views of human evil (1; 23).
Sheldon further concludes that Madison s religious upbringing underlies his application of other
political philosophies and

The Internal Revenue Service And The Current Tax Code
I am Michael Bull, a constituent of yours living in Murfreesboro, TN. I am part of a local citizen
s task force seeking reform of the Internal Revenue Service and the current tax code. No one likes
paying taxes, yet most acknowledge the necessity for them; and we all receive benefits from these
taxes in one form or another. However, the massive Internal Revenue Serviceand the overwhelming
number of taxlaws and their complexity place undue burden on most tax payers and filers.
Issue Background
For corporations and individual tax filers alike, filing one s taxes is no small feat due to the tax
code s complexity and volume. The number of laws, exclusions, exemptions, credits, taxes,
deductions, and revisions are more than any one person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reforming the US tax code into a document a fraction of its current size would help elevate this
type of abuse and make it more difficult for people to misuse its content for their own personal
agenda. Rogue agents are not the only ones who abuse this monstrosity, the more tax savvy a
filer is, the better they are at tax avoidance with so many area to benefit. Whereas a less
proficient tax filer or one who cannot afford a professional to prepare their taxes are likely to
lose out on deductions or credits they may have otherwise been able to claim had they known
about them. Also, with so many parts to the tax code coupled with the number of tax filers, it is
impossible to audit are tax returns filed by the shrinking size of the Internal Revenue Service
employees. This allows for more criminals to commit fraud in their filings.
Another area of concern for us is the amount of time and money spent annually on filing tax
returns to ensure compliance of a document of this magnitude. According to the Internal Revenue
Service s own web site in a report presented to Congress 9 Jan. 2013 by the National Taxpayer

Differential Association Theory Of Criminal Behavior
Firstly, different association theory can be applied to explain more types of crimes since the theory
argues that individuals can learn to commit crimes. Sutherland and Cressey (1974) state that
criminal behavior is not inherited, it is the result of a learning process. In the debates of nature vs.
nurture, Sutherland and Cressey lean towards the nurture side as they argue that people have blank
slate and all behaviors are learnt, including criminal ones. A number of recent researches have
supported the ideas of learnt behavior as Thornberry (2009) claims that criminal behavior can be
learnt from deviant parents. From a different perspective, academics suggest that criminal behavior
can also be passed over through the interaction with delinquent friends (Hochstetler, Copes DeLisi,
2002) and romantic partners (Haynie, Giordano, Manning Longmore, 2005).... Show more content

The association with delinquent people is what encourages them to perform illegal activities.
Based on the idea that any individual can learn criminal behaviors, criminals are argued to exist
among all social classes (Sutherland, 1949). Differential association theory then can be used to
explain a wider range of issues, notably corporate crimes (Piquero, Tibbetts Blankenship, 2005),
cyber crimes (Hawdon, 2012; Wolfe Higgins, 2009) and terrorism (Armstrong Matusitz, 2015). On
the contrary, a large number of strain theories, namely Merton s, Cohen s and Cloward and Ohlin s
theories mostly concern only on juvenile delinquency and crimes committed by lower class
individuals. As a result, differential association theory shows its strengths as the application range

Summary Of The Ghost
Chapter 1 Introduction About Ghost writing
The Ghost, Robert Harris s first sat nav (blend of satellite and navigation) novel was published on
26th September, 2007. It is a contemporary political thriller containing power, politics, corruption
and murder. It also highlights the problem which are involved in the art of ghost writing .
Ghostwriting is the act of writing books or other pieces such as a speech, book , article ,
autobiography and various other literary work in which another author s recieves full credit. Often
these authors are celebrity, politicians or other popular figures who can sell books but cannot write.
Autobiographical writing is the written account of one s life which is written by the same person.
On the other hand, Ghostwriting consists of written accounts of another person s life; mostly
famous personalities, whose autobiographies, memoirs or written speeches are written by the
ghostwriter.
As the name suggest, the ghostwriters name is never mentioned in his or her literary work therefore
they are always away from limelight. Though many miss the attention, the recognition and the
authority of having their own name on the writing but most of the ghostwriters have fierce level of
pride. Its either the income or the independence, its hard to decide. The thin line between these two
literature writing is very fine.

The American Marketing Association ( Ama )
Introduction
According to the definition from the American Marketing Association (AMA), a brand is a name,
term, sign or combination of them intended to identify goods and services of one or a group of
sellers and distinguish it from competitors.
Brands play different roles in the lives of individuals (Ajgaonkar, 2012). But the roles they play
depends on the individual (Kardes et. al, 2011), due to the fact that we are not all the same.
According to Belk (1988), an individual may use personal possessions such as jewelry or clothing
to help define an individual s sense of self
Levy (1959) and Holam (1981) also support the statement by arguing that clothing has a
symbolic attribute, which is used as a form of social interaction. The aim of this essay is to
define the roles that brands play in my life and how they contribute to my sense of self. This will
be accomplished by drawing on my personal experience with brands and with the support of
academic material. To suit the purpose of this essay, I decided to use three brands; Converses,
Playstation and Kurt Geiger.
The Brands
Converses is one of the oldest footwear brands. The brand initially produced shoes for basketball
players but eventually converted to mass market. Converses portray a tough, masculine appeal that
customers would associate with the shoe brand. The brand also falls under the excitement
dimension, which portrays, a spirited, imaginative and daring characteristic (Aaker,

Kafka Utilize Shintoism
Before this discussion all I knew about Shintoism is that it is an ethnic religion of Japan and rather
than a unified religion, it is a collection of beliefs and mythology, which places emphasis on daily
ritual practices. After this discussion I learnt that the Shinto religion is the belief that gods and
humans are not separated by metaphysical boundaries. In Shinto, spirits and humans exist side by
side, which suggests that the spiritual world and the physical world are the same.
This helped me understand how Kafka utilises Shintoism, to link it to key concepts, themes and
how he applies it to symbols in the novel. For instance, there is a quote where Nakata asks are
you a foreigner? , this is because Johnny Walker is a western icon, but also spiritually he is more
like a Shinto spirit. As he stalks cats with flutes, these flutes (pan), the flute is one of the ritual
instruments used to pacify souls. He has a Japanese ideology, however he has a western appearance.
After this discussion, it makes me realise the purpose and reason of why Nakata and Hoshino
together carry out a mission Nakata is psychically compelled to complete. They must find the
entrance stone that separates this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Omairi ( shrine visit ). You can see a clear separation between the spiritual and psychical world. It
is always triggered by negative emotions. In this discussion I also learnt about the significance of
the torii in Shinto, that it is seen as the gateway, to symbolize a separation between the high
vibrational energy (sanctity) of the kami world and the lower vibration of the mundane

depression, embarrassment or social anxiety; the wish to modify a specific detested feature; the

influential appearance that will simplify career progression (Wolfgang et al. 2009).
In the present, a cumulative number of cosmetic surgery procedures are done in doctors agencies

American Culture Research Paper
Basque Culture I grew up in a small town, which was highly populated with individuals of Basque
descent. My grandfather severed in the military and was stationed in Basque Country. Despite the
large Basque population surrounding me, I knew very little of the culture and traditions commonly
found within the Basque Country. The homeland of the Basque people, commonly called the
Basque Country, is located on the Bay of Biscay at the western end of the Pyrenees mountain
range, straddling the border of France and Spain. The nearly 8,000 square mile Basque Country is
divided into seven administrative districts, four in Spain and three in France. Basque culture is
distinctive from that of the rest of Spain in many ways (Thomas, par. 1). This assignment has

How Political Parties Harm Democracy

How Political Parties Harm Democracy
Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set
of shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to
government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their
members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group;
they can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of
individuals running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political
parties help organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that
dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their
likings.
The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with
the intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The
existence of these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the
government away from the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way
that allows the people to elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires.
This is evident in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each
representative is elected by the people of his district. The citizens of each district vote on the
candidate that will best serve their needs once in Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the
representatives are elected based on their promises to their constituencies, they face a great
challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they belong. While serving in the
House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by the citizens of their
districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they belong to. By
having to vote on issues based on the

necessity to his beloved even though he wasn t there. This is why he uses a metaphor to relate
his poem to a pot full of yellow corn . When he says I love you again in the second stanza. It
sounds more urgent then it did in the first stanza. In the third stanza, Baca urges his beloved to
keep the poem and tuck it away . This leads to the assumption that he wants his loved one to feel
his love for a long amount of time. He wants this girl to treasure this poem and his love. When he
repeats I love you for the third time the feelings are building up and becoming more and more
intense which leads to the fourth and final

casinos, tennis courts and many others are common on most modern cruise ships. Moreover, that

labelled one of the fastest growing industries in the world. But all these glorious features involve
several negative/positive impacts on environment, economic and sociocultural. Environmental
However, although the cruise ship industry is forever growing there are negative and positive
impacts. The cruise tourism is likely to have effects on various aspects of the maritime and
terrestrial environments. There is always a high possibility of oil spills by the ships in the sea
which is very difficult to clean up in the cold remote locations. The impact of vessel activity in
the breeding ground and feeding areas of marine mammals risks the wild life and is an area of
concern. Whereas the terrestrial environment is affected by the numerous passengers who often
make shore visit to places of natural and historical interests as a part of their cruise holiday
package, either by speed boats, zodiac or helicopters thereby creating noise pollution and destroying

Julius Caesar Cicero Biography
* Biography Cicero was born in Arpinum in 106 BC. His father paid for him to study
philosophy. He was also taught law by Scaevola. Although he hated war, he served in the
military briefly. Cicero began his political life in 75 BC, when he was elected quaestor. He was
later elected praetor in 66 and consul in 63. Most of his writing during this time revolved around
political or legal subjects. During his time as consul, he defeated a conspiracy to overthrow the
Republic. However, he executed the conspirators without trial. When Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus
joined power to form the First Triumvirate, Cicero refused to join them. He remained loyal to the
Senate and the Republic. In response to this, a law was passed and retroactively applied... Show

If there are any who are pleased by these things, (so that I do not seem to have declared war on all

great custom of electing presidents at these meetings, * Reflection One thing that I learned from
this project, from the translation section specifically, is that, unlike in English, it is customary for
authors of Latin to concatenate many thoughts into one sentence, separated only by commas, even
though they might seem to be completely unrelated, which might seem to the English reader to
violate the most basic of grammar conventions, and make the work more difficult to parse, as this
sentence (yes, this is still all one sentence) serves to exemplify. In addition to the interesting quirk
in grammar, I found a great deal of the research for the biography section interesting. I was
intrigued by the close link between philosophy and politics in Rome, especially with how Cicero
manipulated that link to push is political

Advantages And Disadvantage Of Electric Vehicle
1.1 Introduction Global warming by carbon dioxide and air pollution is getting serious these
days, as a result that led to increased attention for the idea of Electric Vehicle (EV). The idea of
an EV has been around for almost 200 years. Thomas Davenport built the first EV in 1834. Until
a few decades ago, batteries seemed to be the only device capable of storing the energy in a safe
manner. Unfortunately, batteries are still not able to store the amount of energy needed to fulfill
the needs of an electric vehicle completely. They also have a low energy to weight ratio and
problems with the recharging of the battery are not completely solved [1]. Recent developments in
microprocessors, magnetic materials and semiconductors technologies have offered an excellent
opportunity to use ac motor in high performance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thalassotherapy Therapeutic Treatment
Thalassotherapy is a hydrotherapeutic treatment meaning it uses external application of water for a
health or beauty benefit. It involves using the natural properties of the seawater and ocean dwelling
plants for skin rejuvenation. Having originated in France, thalassotherapy is considered a natural
remedy, used with a combination of mineral elements from seawater, skincare products and hot
water.
It is believed that the sea water used in thalassotherapy is similar in electrolyte concentration to that
of the blood plasma in the body. Apparently this allows for greater absorption of essential trace
elements; like magnesium, potassium, calcium and other mineral salts, directly into the skin. The
reaction of thalassotherapy on the skin results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A thermal blanket is placed over the body for approximately an hour. After this time the blanket
and the seaweed wrap is removed. The residue of the seaweed products, oils and herbs are gently
massaged into the skin. This increases blood circulation and apparently detoxifies the body
removing accumulated toxin build up. The seaweed body wrap helps to disperse local fatty tissue
deposits, leaving the skin nourished and healthy looking. The skin also absorbs minerals that are
essential for the restoration of its tone and vitality.
Benefits of Thalassotherapy
The beauty and cosmetic industry claims that the following health benefits can be derived from
thalassotherapy. While the medical fraternity will scoff at some of these outrageous claims,
thalassotherapy is still widely practiced globally with hundreds of thousands of men and women
vouching for its benefits.
The healing properties of salt water a administered in thalassotherapy helps in the management of

Analysis Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text that is very crucial to the historical background of the
Hindu religion. Hinduism is the most prevalent religion in India and the Bhagavad Gita is an epic
that those who follow the religion hold dear to their culture. The Bhagavad Gita is a section of a
large Indian epic called The Mahabharata, which is essentially a long epic vital to the Indian
culture. Much like most religious texts, the Bhagavad Gita is a story with multiple morals and
symbolic situations that people who follow the Hindu religion can use to follow their religion
and better themselves as people. It also goes over the ways one should go about working with a
calm mind and sense of purpose and how when you work you should go into it with a positive
mindset. These are a few of the major lessons from throughout the story of this epic.
The Bhagavad Gita has two main protagonists, Krishna and Arjuna, who are actually cousins with
each other through Kunti. Arjuna is a Pandava Prince and Krishna is actually a Hindu deity who
goes by the name of Vishnu. Krishna is a deity disguised as a human who befriends Arjuna within
the story. Despite one character being a god and the other being a mortal, there isn t a lot of
personality dissonance between the two. Arjuna depended on Krishna, who agreed to be his chariot
driver during the war, for guidance. He held nothing but respect for Krishna and Krishna respected
him back.
During the story, Arjuna is doing all he can he can

A Beautiful Love Story Essay
She stands at 5 6 tall; she has pretty blonde hair, with the most beautiful green eyes you will ever
see! Her smile, her smile still gives me butterflies in the pit of my stomach. She walks with such
grace, and she is not afraid to show or share her love for Christ! She does so much to make sure
that I am more than satisfied. She is an amazing mother to our beautiful 4 year old daughter. As
you might have figured out, that woman, she is my wife Amanda! I never thought we would be
together; 4.5 years later, we have a beautiful love story. Prior to meeting my wife, we had a
mutual friend named Whitney. Whitney showed Amanda a picture of me in an attempt to set us
up on a date; Amanda thought I was cute, however, she was afraid to reach out to me. I am not
sure why, because, as far I am concerned, she is the real catch. About one week later, Whitney
told me that Amanda thought I was cute, so naturally, my confidence just sky rockets! I felt
good; I reached out to her, and gave her my phone number. We texted back and forth a few times,
but it only lasted for about one week. We both just let time go by, and lost contact with each other.
Then we reconnected, and the same exact thing happened about a week later, we just up and quit
talking again. We never quit talking because of an argument or anything; we had really good
conversations, we just would literally not text each other after the last conversation ended. In
Cleveland, TN we have a park called The Greenway. It is a

The explanation for the increase in wireless network costs is explained as a result of an increase
in the average cost per unit, driven by a shift to higher priced units in the mix of devices sold,
partially offset by a decline in the number of units sold. While Wireless costs went up, Selling,
general and administrative expenses went down. This was due to non operational credits
recorded in 2015. A contributing factor of this was a decline in sales commission in the
Wireless segment. This drop in commissions was due to an increase in consumers choosing to
use the device payment plan rather than point of sale purchase. Depreciation and amortization
expenses also decreased in 2015. This was due to Depreciation and amortization expenses not
being recorded on Wireline assets in California, Florida, and Texas. These Assets are classified
as held for sale as of February 5, 2015. Verizon explained their reasoning for this in the review by
stating We will not record depreciation and amortization expense on our depreciable Wireline
assets in California, Florida and Texas through the closing of the transaction with Frontier, which is
expected to occur at the end of the first quarter of 2016. (Verizon, 2015) Overall

My Understanding Of Education Level Peace Building Efforts...
I. Introduction
Listening to four women peacemakers, rather peacebuilders, from different countries, cultures and
contexts has broadened and, at the same time, challenged my understanding of gender dynamics in
conflict context. This reflection essay aims to discuss how these presentations deepened and
complicated my understanding of gender. It will mainly focus on Kurshid s presentations of violent
extremism in Pakistan. However, I will also use part of Fatma s presentation on Western Sahara for
the first part of the discussion below.
II. Gender Issues and Perspectives
During the presentations, I came across with numerous issues and points that enriched my
understanding of gender. For the purposes of this essay, I will limit myself to the discussion of how
the presentations broadened my understanding of gender as social construct; expanded my insight
of violence beyond an armed conflict; provided me insight on grassroots level peace building
efforts; renewed my faith in the value of education; and challenged my prejudices and provided me
with fresh insights and gender perspectives to conflict and peacebuilding.
Gender as a social construct and Conflict a Deconstruction of Gender
Primarily, both Kurshid s and Fatma s presentations strengthened my understanding of gender as a
social construct. Particularly, Fatma s presentation on Western Sahara provided a very god example.
When most Saharawi men joined the POLISARIO to fight against Morocco, the women who

The Man He Killed By Thomas Hardy
The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy features an ex soldier that is contemplating and thinking
back upon a time when they took another soldier s life. In the poem, the narrator states that if the
two had met in a bar they would have been good friends and shared a drink, but enlisting in war
required them to meet in battle, leading to one of them being brutally killed. In the process of
analyzing the situation, the narrator states, I shot him dead because / because he was my foe,

Today is May 3, 2016, the day we take on the best team in our conference. The coach announced

Our batters our having no luck against the darts that their pitcher is throwing. As we have not

innings went smoothly with the opponent only getting four hits. My confidence level was high,
three more innings and we will be walking out of here with a win. But, going through the four,
five, six batters will be a major obstacle. As the game proceeds, I am getting more and more
nervous every pitch.
As I released my go to pitch, I thought it would blow right by the hitter. But I thought wrong.
The 6 3, 200 pounder cranked the ball down the right field line for a stand up triple. My hope in
the matter of a split second went down the drain. With my confidence level at its all time low, all
I wanted to do was take a seat. I knew that was not an option. But the road is not getting easier, as
the 6 3, 200 pounders brother approached the plate. I knew I had to strike him out in order to have
any chance at winning this game. My second pitch of the inning, gone, out of the park. I just
ruined an amazing performance by our entire team in the matter of 2 pitches. I felt as if my team
lost all hope. From that point on, the game was over.

Persuasive Essay On Sports
Imagine a world without competition. Imagine a world where every student that couldn t solve
a simple math equation was accepted into an Ivy League school such as Harvard, or Yale. That
wouldn t be very safe now, would it? The student that we were counting on to create the next best
medical technology had no idea what they were doing because the only reason they got into the
school was that the dean didn t want to hurt anybody s feelings. Although this is a far stretch,
this is the reality people like Satasky in Children Need to Play, Not Compete wish could come
true in today s children s sports. Playing sports for 15 years of my life and competing
competitively for 11 of them have done nothing but good for me. Obviously, there have been
hardships such trying my best to juggle sports and my many other obligations without letting any
of them fall beneath the other, but I did it, and I owe it all to the many years of playing. Although
children s sports are becoming increasingly competitive, their parents are playing a major role in
the risk of injury and other mental hardships, such as their childbeing discouraged if they don t
make the cut. However, the values the children learn by playing competitively such as perseverance
and the opportunities that they bring upon themselves through hard work outweigh the
disadvantages.
With playing a competitive sport at a young age comes great responsibility not only on the child but
the parent s end as well. The underline problem

Beyond Lies The Wub Essay
Greatness is a road leading toward the unknown (Charles de Gaulle). This melodramatic, cheesy
quote perfectly describes author, Philip K. Dick s writing in his short story Beyond Lies the Wub.
Philip K. Dick was a unique author that explored an unknown part of science fiction and ultimately
created many award winning and interactive short stories. Beyond Lies the Wub was written in
1952, the same era of the Cold War. Similar to men who were setting off to fight stalked up on
food, clothes and machinery, Franco, a pragmatic captain in this short storyloaded up on live
animals before their departure to Mars. One of the animals is an enormous pig creature known by
the natives as a Wub. The crew later finds out this creature is so intelligent... Show more content on

Since Beyond Lies The Wub has multiple unclear meanings and messages, readers may be left
unpleased. However, Dick may have intentionally created this confusion so that each reader has a
unique experience in how they discern the text. One interpretation of Beyond Lies the Wub is that
Franco may have been punished for his wrongdoings. Even though the crew was not fully
supportive and the Wub warned him about killing him, he still slaughtered the innocent animal.
Another interpretation of the text could be hinting that Philip K. Dick was vegetarian and thinks
those who consume meat should be punished. However, Dick s multiple comments throughout the
story about the concern of the crews starvation suggest Franco s intention was to feed the
deprived crew. Dick s common tactic of ending his mysterious, vague short stories is by
implementing an adjacent character who is just as confused as the audience. The story ends very
abruptly leaving Peterson torn between two sides: whether his captain was just trying to feed his
crew or was the innocent animal who deemed himself worthy of living through his knowledge
living through the Captain as a punishment. By Dick ending the story before the audience receives
any more information about how Franco is now the wub and how Peterson reacts, allows the
audience to interpret it for themselves. Ultimately we must ask ourselves, is all the confusion and
lack of clarity making Dick s stories truly effective? I think

  • 2. Taking a Look at Domestic Violence Essays Domestic violence is when an intimate partner, such as a spouse or a person you cohabit with; physical, sexually or psychologically abuses you. Abusers come from all different types of backgrounds. Domestic Violence affects all races, ethnicities and genders. It occurs in dating relationships, in marriages, in heterosexual relationships, and in homosexual relationships. However, it is more common among women, 1of 50 women ages 16 to 24 are victims of intimate violence, and 10 times as many women are seriously hurt by current or former lovers. (Gelles and Cornell 1990; Campell 1995/ Marriage, Families and Intimate Relationships). Domestic violence can be defined as the physical, sexual, verbal emotional or financial abuse between present... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire cycle may happen in one day or it may take weeks or months. It is different for every relationship and not all relationships follow the cycle many report a constant state of siege with little relief. This cycle has three parts: 1. Tension building phase Tension builds over common domestic issues like money, children or jobs. Verbal abuse begins. The victim tries to control the situation by pleasing the abuser, giving in or avoiding the abuse. None of these will stop the violence. Eventually, the tension reaches a boiling point and physical abuse begins. 2. Acute Battering episode when the tension peaks, the physical violence begins. It is usually triggered by the presence of an external event or by the abuser s emotional state but not by the victim s behavior. This means the start of the battering episode is unpredictable and beyond the victim s control. However, some experts believe that in some cases victims may unconsciously provoke the abuse so they can release the tension, and move on to the honeymoon phase. 3. The Honeymoon Phase first, the abuser is ashamed of his behavior. He expresses remorse, tries to minimize the abuse and might even blame it on the partner. He may then exhibit loving, kind behavior followed by apologies, generosity and helpfulness. He will genuinely attempt to convince the partner that the abuse will not happen ... • 3. Security And Security Techniques Overall information systems hardware, software, networks and data resources need to be protected and secured to ensure the effective performance of an organization. One security technique used by organizations to protect their computer systems from security threats is encryption this is a method used by organizations to send data to others it works by using special mathematical algorithms to convert the data into scrambled code before transmission and when the data is received it is decoded when an authorized user accesses it. In my opinion, this is very effective because it stops people from being able to read or use data if they intercepted it as the is in a scrambled letter and number form. Another securitytechnique is a firewall this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anti virus software and Antispyware Software works by identifying suspicious software based on a list of known threats it then checks the computer against that list and tells the user if it finds anything on its list. In my opinion, Anti virus software and Anti Spyware Software is very effective because it stops malicious software getting onto a computer which could steal or leak sensitive company data. One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and passwords to access any equipment, wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded with unique usernames and passwords for each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an added layer of security so if someone hacks in they have to get passed the password and it also allows companies to see what exactly their employees are accessing, also the passwords that are used should be very strong so the passwords should include numbers, letters and symbols and not have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which are easy to guess. In my opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it harder for hackers to hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they will be able to see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. One more security technique is keeping sensitive data out of the cloud, Cloud computing offers businesses many benefits like being a cheaper way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most common groups are; formal, informal, command groups and committees. For this particular task, the group was a committee made up of members from different departments within the company. The key players in the committee were drawn from the human resource (HR) assistants/specialists, the HR management, and the hospital director along with other senior hospital administrators. The members mentioned above of the committee where called to discuss and assess issues regarding the reason for the occasional delay in background check investigations within the organization which caused a delay in the hiring process. Members of the management department handle issues regarding how to better manage this process; human resource specialist were called to handle the logistical issues and the assistants handle issues of suppliers and customer while members of the management provide direction and inputs in case of disagreements. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the reason behind the delay in completing background investigations, which had been undergoing problems in recent times. The meeting was meant to figure out what was causing delays in the completion of background checks and find solutions to ensure that the issues were thoroughly dealt with and a lasting solution adopted. • 5. Music And Its Influence On Music Introduction: Music is a very telling form of expression. Whether it is the lyrics themselves, the tone in which they re said or the rhythm of the music, there are many methods in which music expresses the artist s opinion to his audience. The introduction of new methods of expression in music by tinkering with old methods are how new musical ideas are discovered. In the past, Miles Davis explorations into jazz fusion and modal jazz music pushed the envelope. Now, Kanye West s explorations through samples, orchestration and rhythms shape the direction of music. For both Miles Davis and Kanye West, the fields of music (Jazz and Hip Hop) in which they have had most of their influence are considered to be predominantly dominated with ... It accomplishes this through providing first hand quotes from Miles himself as well as quotes from other jazz musicians around Miles, thus also establishing its creditbility. Perhaps the most useful source of evidence comes from the quote French jazz pianist RenГ© Urtreger: Miles was proud and touched by the fact that in France, jazz was considered to be very important music . For in this quote we get a context about just how important jazz is to Parisian culture. This can speak to our claim that Miles, along with other black music artists, fit into the role of entertainment to the French. It is only in contexts where the French/ whites decide where black can gain economic success and recognition. In this instance, it was in the case of Jazz where the French deemed important and where Miles crossed over into perfectly. This source also provided some background as to the decreased popularity of Jazz music in American culture during the same time period with historical information. Yet despite all the economic success and fame obtained in Paris, Miles s opinion on Paris seemed to be a negative one as evident in his soundtrack for the film noir Ascenseur pour l Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold), evidence introduced in the article but will be discussed later in another source. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OKQdp6iGUk (Primary Source) The primary source of a video of one of Miles Davis soundtracks provides a unique twist on the music that Miles ... The development of this plotdirectly shapes the events that take place. Plots vary from story to story, but the basic meaning is still there. A plot is defined as a sequence of interrelated events that make up its basic narrative structure. Mostly, plots have a definite beginning, middle and end. It seems Emily and her family are somewhat royal to the people around town, and rather wealthy. This is why the townspeople are so nosy into Emily s life, because her and her family are the talk of the town. Part three has Emily s father pass away, and Emily secluding herself and then getting sick from it. Emily does not have a cold, more like a mental breakdown because she lost her father. This is the crisis stage of the plot, because Emily s father died, and it doesn t seem like she has any other family around, so it was a hard hit. My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment? Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access into a structure. Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical, horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is not planned and coordinated correctly. Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and gas. According to Delaney, Thoreau s subtle humor and individualistic philosophy has influenced White and it can be seen through his writing, including his short fiction. Delaney also said that White never lost his sense of humor even when dealing with depressing subjects. Most characteristic of White s short stories is their strange mixture of humor and emotional distress. In this way he resembles his friend James Thurber. Thurber was a major influence on White, just as White was on him. Delaney also went on to say that they were both admirers of Henry James, and that older writer s high literary standards and dedication to his craft are obviously reflected in White s short stories. White has also been praised for his use of prose style. This makes his writing flow easily and seem almost effortless. Years before he started working at The New Yorker, White had started to write stories about a little mouse named Stuart Little and in 1941 he decided he wanted to finish the stories. In 1945, Stuart Little was published. This novel is about conflict, coping, persistence, and hope. It s an episodic adventure tale reminiscent of novels in the picaresque style. First, I believe the father left because the way Jesse expresses his emotions makes me infer that his father can still return, but it s a little uncomfortable to go back to a familythat he left. In the poem, Hey Daddy(Please Come Back) By Jesse Debenport, Jesse states with strong desire, I ll try and set aside at least one day a week... So we can hop in the truck and go four wheeling. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob s problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob s numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke s Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob s top five breakups. The list includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The protagonist is over thirty years old and he decides to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Loyalists that inhabited the colonies, however, endured severe harassment in the times leading up to the war. They suffered through actions of disrespect and humiliation. They were, in other words, tortured for their position on the side of the English Law. This treatment forced many Loyalists to flee and return to England or to spread out and live elsewhere. The Eagles began as an all American Rock band in Los Angeles in 1971 by band members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. The Eagles, being number one in the world in the 70 s, have been given awards for their creativity and meaning in their music. With five number one singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and six number one albums (Graff), the Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. Their music changed history in their time. Many of their songs on their number one albums got into the Rolling Stones Top 500 Songs of All Time list (Graff). This song Desperado means a lot to me because it played on the album that I used to sing along in the car with my mom and sister when I was a small child. It acts as part of a symbol in the childhood that I so dearly cherish, and long to return to. The song is played on the album Their Greatest Hits and has a more country beat to it, which I enjoyed more, than their more rock and roll take on their music. These three men inspired the high Renaissance. Florence and Rome hosted the leading artist for that century. I will like to describe a painting of Raphael that caught my attention from reading the textbook; it is called the Marriage of the Virgin. In this painting the artists used linear perspective to create the illusion of space in the far back. He placed the vanishing point of the one point perspective in the doorway of the beautiful painted round house that is symmetrical on both side. The artists created the plaster in different sizes of rectangular shapes in red and cream colors to emphasize on the importance of linear perspective in the painting. If the painting was divided in two parts, the viewer will see that it is symmetric on both sides. Authors Staples and Angelou have had gone through challenging experiences and have been discriminated and stereotyped; they share my beliefs that we should not judge by someone s skin color or by appearance. I have not myself been through situations of racism to that extreme but I have witnessed discrimination and stereotyping. Differential Association Theory Of Criminal Behavior Firstly, different association theory can be applied to explain more types of crimes since the theory argues that individuals can learn to commit crimes. Sutherland and Cressey (1974) state that criminal behavior is not inherited, it is the result of a learning process. In the debates of nature vs. nurture, Sutherland and Cressey lean towards the nurture side as they argue that people have blank slate and all behaviors are learnt, including criminal ones. A number of recent researches have supported the ideas of learnt behavior as Thornberry (2009) claims that criminal behavior can be learnt from deviant parents. From a different perspective, academics suggest that criminal behavior can also be passed over through the interaction with delinquent friends (Hochstetler, Copes DeLisi, 2002) and romantic partners (Haynie, Giordano, Manning Longmore, 2005).... The American Marketing Association ( Ama ) Introduction According to the definition from the American Marketing Association (AMA), a brand is a name, term, sign or combination of them intended to identify goods and services of one or a group of sellers and distinguish it from competitors. Brands play different roles in the lives of individuals (Ajgaonkar, 2012). But the roles they play depends on the individual (Kardes et. al, 2011), due to the fact that we are not all the same. According to Belk (1988), an individual may use personal possessions such as jewelry or clothing to help define an individual s sense of self Levy (1959) and Holam (1981) also support the statement by arguing that clothing has a symbolic attribute, which is used as a form of social interaction. The thesis of this essay is to examine these two types of surgery and to examine the effect that it has on today s medical world, and what causes people to seek plastic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns (Garg, 2013). Interior motivators consist of the yearning to reduce the unpleasant emotional state of depression, embarrassment or social anxiety; the wish to modify a specific detested feature; the longing for a more youthful, strong look that indicates fertility and the hope to generate a strong, influential appearance that will simplify career progression (Wolfgang et al. 2009). In the present, a cumulative number of cosmetic surgery procedures are done in doctors agencies and separate clinical centers and more procedures are being carried out simultaneously (Wolfgang et al. 2009). This increases the risk of rare but potentially fatal infections and anesthetic reactions. Furthermore, some consultants have not finished the full five years of residency training essential for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, but validly complete procedures, for which they might be incompetently trained, purely to supplement their income (Wolfgang et al. 2009). Complications in plastic surgery do happen. Complications of cosmetic surgery are infrequent, but include contamination, haemorrhage, fluid and salt disproportion, and hypersensitive and anesthetic reactions which are occasionally lethal (Chambers, 2009). This alone is a very lucrative business for doctor s and surgeons, because they have to fix the mistakes that they make, or others has to fix said mistake. My grandfather severed in the military and was stationed in Basque Country. Despite the large Basque population surrounding me, I knew very little of the culture and traditions commonly found within the Basque Country. The homeland of the Basque people, commonly called the Basque Country, is located on the Bay of Biscay at the western end of the Pyrenees mountain range, straddling the border of France and Spain. The nearly 8,000 square mile Basque Country is divided into seven administrative districts, four in Spain and three in France. Basque culture is distinctive from that of the rest of Spain in many ways (Thomas, par. 1). This assignment has allowed me the privilege to interview and spend time with Maria Begona Narvaiza Peck. I was able to experience the Basque culture through conversation, photographs, museum, and meals. Begona, as she prefers to be addressed, immigrated to the United States with her family in 1975, she was nine years old at the time. Her father, who was a sheepherder, moved to the United States ahead of the rest of the family. He was working to earn passage for the family to be reunited once again. The family was soon sponsored and began saving money for flights to America. She recalls this took quite a long while, as her father made only $200 a month. Once saving the money they needed, her mother and siblings began their journey to America ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Political Parties Harm Democracy Roy Young Professor Goodman PSCI 4300 U.S. Congress 11 March 2013 How Political Parties Harm Democracy Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set of shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group; they can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of individuals running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. The existence of these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the government away from the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way that allows the people to elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires. This is evident in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each representative is elected by the people of his district. The citizens of each district vote on the candidate that will best serve their needs once in Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the representatives are elected based on their promises to their constituencies, they face a great challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they belong. While serving in the House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by the citizens of their districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they belong to. The explanation for the increase in wireless network costs is explained as a result of an increase in the average cost per unit, driven by a shift to higher priced units in the mix of devices sold, partially offset by a decline in the number of units sold. While Wireless costs went up, Selling, general and administrative expenses went down. This was due to non operational credits recorded in 2015. A contributing factor of this was a decline in sales commission in the Wireless segment. This drop in commissions was due to an increase in consumers choosing to use the device payment plan rather than point of sale purchase. Depreciation and amortization expenses also decreased in 2015. This was due to Depreciation and amortization expenses not being recorded on Wireline assets in California, Florida, and Texas. These Assets are classified as held for sale as of February 5, 2015. Beyond Lies the Wub was written in 1952, the same era of the Cold War. Similar to men who were setting off to fight stalked up on food, clothes and machinery, Franco, a pragmatic captain in this short storyloaded up on live animals before their departure to Mars. Since Beyond Lies The Wub has multiple unclear meanings and messages, readers may be left unpleased. However, Dick may have intentionally created this confusion so that each reader has a unique experience in how they discern the text. One interpretation of Beyond Lies the Wub is that Franco may have been punished for his wrongdoings. Even though the crew was not fully supportive and the Wub warned him about killing him, he still slaughtered the innocent animal. Another interpretation of the text could be hinting that Philip K. Dick was vegetarian and thinks those who consume meat should be punished. However, Dick s multiple comments throughout the story about the concern of the crews starvation suggest Franco s intention was to feed the deprived crew. Dick s common tactic of ending his mysterious, vague short stories is by implementing an adjacent character who is just as confused as the audience. The story ends very abruptly leaving Peterson torn between two sides: whether his captain was just trying to feed his crew or was the innocent animal who deemed himself worthy of living through his knowledge living through the Captain as a punishment. By Dick ending the story before the audience receives any more information about how Franco is now the wub and how Peterson reacts, allows the audience to interpret it for themselves.
