My Favorite Author Essay
1. My Favorite Author Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "My Favorite Author" may initially seem like a delightful task for
literature enthusiasts. After all, the prospect of delving into the works of a beloved writer and
expressing admiration for their literary prowess can be exciting. However, as one embarks on the
journey of composing such an essay, the complexity of the task becomes apparent.
The challenge lies in striking a balance between personal appreciation and critical analysis. It's
not merely about listing the reasons why a particular author holds a special place in one's heart.
The essay must go beyond personal sentiments to explore the author's impact on literature,
culture, and perhaps even the reader's own perspective. This necessitates thorough research into
the author's background, their body of work, and the societal context in which they wrote.
Crafting a coherent and engaging narrative is another hurdle. The essay should not read like a
mere summary of the author's biography or a recitation of their most famous works. It requires a
careful weaving of personal anecdotes, literary insights, and broader cultural observations.
Finding the right balance between these elements while maintaining a clear and logical structure
is no easy feat.
Moreover, there is the challenge of conveying genuine passion without veering into overly
sentimental territory. Striking the right tone is crucial – the essay should be heartfelt but also
intellectually rigorous. This requires a delicate interplay of emotion and analysis that demands a
nuanced approach to language and expression.
In conclusion, writing an essay on one's favorite author is a task that demands a multifaceted skill
set. It requires a deep understanding of the author's work, a knack for critical analysis, and the
ability to convey personal sentiments in a sophisticated manner. The difficulty lies not just in
expressing admiration but in doing so in a way that resonates with readers on both emotional and
intellectual levels.
For those facing challenges in tackling such essays, it's worth considering seeking assistance.

2. Chesapeake And New England Colonies Essay
A community is a group of people who work together towards a common goal and
share a common interest. Lack of such a quality can and most likely will cause a
struggling town or city to fall into the extremes of poverty and wealth. The New
England community was so strong and so supportive in comparison to that of the
Chesapeake Bay, that it is no wonder they developed into two distinctly different
cultures before the year 1700. The Chesapeake region developed into a land of
plantations and money driven owners, with the elite wealthy, almost no middle class,
and those in poverty creating the population. New England, on the other hand, had
developed into a religion and family based society comprised of mostly middle class
families by 1700.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The motives that drove the Pilgrims and Puritans away from anything familiar and
the trust they placed in God only proved that they were going to make their life in
the new world work, no matter what. Not everyone in England was facing a harsh
persecution; many travelers came to the New World with high hopes of money,
which led to numerous conflicts. It was a land for the rich to get richer. Most of the
settlers bound for Virginia and the Southern colonies had a get rich or die trying
type of attitude. The only thing tearing them from home was a flimsy promise of
gold that may or may not be there. The motive of such people is so radically
different. There were no pacts of agreement, no common laws that kept them in a
community once landing. This led the men to never develop any sense of belonging
with their fellow men, causing a distinct survival society by 1700. Every man was
for himself. It was a bitter game displaying the survival of the richest.
The travelers from England that headed for the Chesapeake Bay were
predominantly men, which led to an unbalanced society and lack of wives to
promote a family based culture. The passenger list for one boat had a sex ratio of
sixty four men to eleven women. Not only was there a radical imbalance, only four
of the men were above forty, while only eight total were above thirty (Doc. C). That
left fifty six young males headed to a new land with only their self government of a

3. Reasons for Russia s October Revolution
What were the reasons for the October revolution?
The revolution in Russia started spontaneously in February 1917 when the
Bolsheviks leader Vladimir Lenin plotted to overthrow the government and take
power. The Tsar in Russia Nicholas II was abdicated in March 1917 and the
provisional committee of the Duma formed the provisional government. The duel
power interrupted the government authority and the soviets were in control. Now the
provisional government decided to continue with the war because western allies were
needed. That was a mistake along other major mistakes such as putting off the
promised reforms which of course did upset the peasants and the government also
postponed the election. After the fail of the February revolution Lenin returned to
Russia in April and he released his new thesis that stated that the Bolsheviks supports
the Soviets. With the Bolsheviks representing only 10% Lenin attempt to advocate a
break with the provisional government failed. The July days between the 3rd and the
6th were a disaster for the Bolsheviks. The demonstrations were easily crushed by the
government and members of the Bolsheviks were arrested. In August, general
Kornilov who hated the left wing including Lenin and the soviets plotted for a right
wing revolt he wanted to protect Petrograd from the Germans. His attempt was not
successful. The Kornilov arrest influenced Kerensky and he feared the worst and
released the Bolsheviks prisoners. In September with the Bolsheviks
4. Forest Deforestation Essay
Forest plays an essential role for local livelihood practices and considered as an
important source of national revenue as well. However, in developing countries such
as Indonesia, forest degradation has become at an alarming rate as a result of the
over exploitation, unsustainable practices, forest fires, and non eco friendly
development projects in the forested areas like forestconversion into mining and
monoculture plantation. Massive deforestation naturally results in biodiversitylosses
and in many places leads to soil erosion, siltation and damage of the forests
hydrological functions, thus worsening food security and compromising forests
future economic and environmental attributes [1] and it has been reported that
Indonesia lost more than 6 million hectares of natural forest between 2000 and
2012 [2]. Not only rich in biological resources (10% of the world s remaining
flowering plants species, 12% of mammal species, 16% of reptile species, 25% of
fish species and 17% of bird species), these forests are also home to tens of millions
of Indonesian citizens. Many, if not most of these citizens are indigenous people with
culturally rich and diverse customs and traditions [3].
Forest ecosystems provide homes and sources of livelihood for a majority of the
indigenous peoples of Indonesia. Indigenous peoples make significant contributions
to the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems, nevertheless,

7. The Poetry Of Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney is one of the most famous living poets of our age. He was born in
April 1939 in Castledawson, Ireland and died on the 30th of August 2013. He grew
up in his family farm house in County Derry being the eldest sibling of 9 in the
family. His father, Patrick Heaney focused on a cattle dealers way of life, whereas
his mother, Margaret McCann obtained connections with the modern world. The
poet believed he grasped significant tension and contrast through his parentage
between speech and silence, convinced that opposites truly do attract. At the age of
12 Heaney was awarded a scholarship to St. Columb s College, followed by years of
transfers and then finally moving to the Irish Republic and from 1982 was regularly
teaching in America, which basically proposed his poetrycareer.
The wordsmith from Ireland he was named was awarded the Nobel Prize in
Literature, with his poetry achieving great critical acclaim and popularity. The three
poems I annotated; Mid Term Break , Follower and Twice Shy are examples of

Operation Red Wing On June 28, 2005 The SEAL team, led by LT Michael P.
Murphy and consisting of petty officers Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and Marcus
Luttrell, were on a mission to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban leader who
commanded a group of insurgents known as the Mountain Tigers, west of Asadabad.
The initial counter insurgent mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan seemed to be
running accordingly with a successful infiltration into enemy territories until local
Goat herders stumbled upon the teams hiding spot. While very concerned with their
own well being the Seal team was unable to verify Hostile intent from the herders.

With a strong need to quickly find the lost SEAL team the US military had over
300 men working in search and rescue operations. Nearly two days after the initial
attack the men had located the downed helicopter and verified that all 16 aboard
had been killed. Despite multiple attempts, the search helicopters were unable to
locate the wounded Navy SEAL and he was soon announced MIA. On July 2, the
village elder of Sabray, carrying a note from Luttrell, went down to seek help from
Camp Blessing, a Marine outpost several miles away. First Lieutenant Matt Bartels
was the first to hear of the lone survivor and soon called up to higher for extraction
plans. With high hopes the US military drew up extensive plans for Luttrell s
retrieval making him a high priority. As if the Taliban heard of the SEALs new
hopes for rescue they were more persistent than ever at getting him as their captive.
The rescue teams of the US closed in upon the village when they suddenly ran into
Luttrell and some of the villagers who were moving him from one hiding place to
another. Six days later the search teams found the bodies of LT Murphy s and GM2
Dietz but STG2 Axelson was never found and is now pronounced KIA. This tragic
event in our nation s current War on terror is arguably the worst of the decade. There

9. The First Method Of Aas
The first method to talk about is AAS. The general idea of AAS is to make up
standard solutions of differing amounts of known concentrations of each of the
metals to generate a calibration curve and then measure the absorption or emission of
the unknown solution and then compare that value against the concentration curve to
figure out the concentration of each metal in the sample. Atoms are put into the gas
phrase for analysis. The process of getting the metal into the gas phase involves
adding energy to the sample. First, water is driven off and then molecules are broken
apart into atoms. If more energy is added, the atoms go from their ground state into
their electronically excited state. When performing atomic absorption spectroscophy,

[Leverman] Intensity is measured as log I0/I where I0 is the intensity of the blank
and I is the intensity of the analyte. The light source shines specific wavelengths of
light through the flame that then hit the detector. Because specific wavelengths of
light are absorbed by the sample, what actually reaches the detector is a portion of
what was emitted by the source in atomic absorption spectroscopy. The source and the
sample are matched in such a way that the chemical composition of the filament
within the lamp contain some of the same types of atoms that is analyzed. In this
specific case, the filament would be made of copper and lead and perhaps some other
metals. The source emits several lines where each line corresponds to a different
energy transition between the ground and excited state and the sample absorbs only a
fraction of that energy. There is a lot of electromagnetic spectrum information
heading towards the detector so the purpose of the monochromator, which is located
between the sample and the detector, is to sort out that light information spatially
similar to what a prism does when white light sunlight hits it and produces a rainbow.
The instrument acts like all other absorption instruments in that, as the concentration
of atoms increases, the light intensity hitting the detector goes down and conversely
as the number of atoms decrease the light

12. Gender Stereotypes In Sesame Street
Many times in our life we take on roles that are based more on myths and on
misconceptions than on fact, for example, gender roles. Since ancient times, it was
considered natural for women to give birth (to boys, if possible) and take care of
children and the household. Women were often considered unqualified for jobs that
required physical strength. Men, on the other hand were the breadwinner of the
family. He made sure to provide his family with the basic needs, such as food,
clothing, protection and shelter.
In society, the media is a powerful socializing agent for young children. When
children watch TV they see males act more aggressively than females, and that
females are more likely to understand other people s needs and feelings. All of the
children shows in the 1991 Saturday morning TV lineup had male lead characters.
Even on public TV s Sesame Street , most of the Muppet characters were identified
as males. In 2007, there are a few female Muppet characters on Sesame Street , such

Throughout history, Musicians have used songs to tell stories, raise questions,
and express their feelings. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her
realization that love comes naturally, and no one should have to change who they
are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the use of metaphors,
imagery, and word choices. This song is also empowering and uplifting through its
use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and imagery to reveal and
embrace her personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a flower
(Norwood 1 and 2). She compares herself to a work in progress, which infers that
she is unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a person. Brandy also states
that she is a seed grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as beautiful, but as
time passes it grows and the flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty
color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and appreciated by people. Even with all of

affect about 2% of children. However, they are more common in younger children
(affecting about 5 8% of younger children). Fortunately, most younger children will
outgrow these food allergies by the time that they are three years old.
Symptoms of a food allergies can often include wheezing and difficulty in breathing,
along with itchy skin rashes, including hives, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal
pain and swelling around the mouth and in the throat (common with nut allergies).

If anyone notices that a child develops symptoms after being exposed to certain
foods, then the child should avoid such foods. The most common foods that can
cause allergies include: peanuts, tree nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc.), fish, shellfish,
eggs (especially egg whites), milk, soy, and wheat. Keeping a diary for a few
weeks and recording what foods a child has been eating, especially new foods, and
when they develop symptoms may help figure out what they are allergic to. This is
often what professionals encourage families to do to get to the true cause of what is
making them so ill.
Once it has been determined what a child is allergic to, it is important to learn to
read food labels because the food a child is allergic to may be an ingredient of
many other foods. They should also avoid eating foods that may have been prepared
using equipment that was also used to prepare the types of food that the child is
allergic to.
When trying to determine what a child is allergic to, parents often incorrectly
assume that if they have eaten a food before and not had problems, then they are
probably not allergic to that food. Parents usually only suspect new foods as being
able to cause a food allergy. However, it is important to keep in mind that it takes time
for the immune system to build up a reaction against something that the body is

19. Gross Domestic Product
I.Introduction
1.Introduction and objectives
The wealth and success of a country is something that theoretically is very hard to
measure and quantify. However, tools called Indexes can be used to report on the
past, present or future state of country. The usage for these Indexes is quite
obvious: they can be used to benchmark the situation of a country compared to its
peers, create historical trends in order to estimate if any improvements have been
made throughout the years in multiple fields. Of course, they can also be used as
political tools for the world leaders for internal purposes (linked to government
policies) but also external policies as it can be a mean to determine the power that a
country can have on the international level. The main Index that has been used for
the past 80 years and is still used nowadays to measure the economic wealth is the
Gross Domestic Product (or GDP). It is important to remember that the initial goal of
these indexes (and particularly the GDP) is to measure and give a detailed report of
the addition, subtraction and multiplication of certain numbers that compose a
country s economy. Therefore, a measurement tool is not an end goal in itself.
Nevertheless, this index became the reason for an international competition between
countries to decide which one is the most able to bring this number to the maximum.
This might not be an issue if the GDP was not mainly a measurement of the economic
wealth of a country. During the years, new

That...
Section One Background
The Keurig case study is an interesting examination of the revolutionary coffee
company, and the variables that will shape the future of the company and industry.
The basis of the Keurig case study is the transition for niche product aiming for the
mainstream success of everyday use by consumers in their homes, to one of the
industry leaders among the coffee industry giants. Keurig had been founded to
commercialize an innovative technology that allowed coffee lovers to brew one
perfect cup of coffee at a time (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). Hence, the
attempt to create a new segment within the coffee industry would take time, and
education efforts to promote and sell the benefits of the new coffee makers. After 11
years of trying to perfect the desired product the company believed could change the
industry, Keurig was able to develop the K cup.
The K cup brand was built of the idea of the consumer being able to brew a single
cup of coffee at the perfect temperature and superior tasting at the convenience of
their home (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). As a result, this new product
began to set the market on fire because the new features were never available for
customers, which in turn created the issue of competition. Patents are key to
protecting the intellectual property that generates the sources of knowledge,
technology, and designs used by companies such as Keurig to obtain and maintain an
advantage within the

the use of language in specific ways story tellers can manipulate readers/audience to

In a specific example, in the short story Cities Memories 3 by Calvino, the author
tells the story through the use of personification, this is demonstrated through this
quote The city, however, does not tell its past, but contains it like the lines of a

in this short story. The author uses metaphor to tell the reader/audience that the
lines of one s hands are the streets in the city. Furthermore, when examining the
theme of Power of Language and The Power of Stories and Story Telling it is
important to consider, who this form of storytelling benefit? How does it benefit
them? The way a story is told mainly benefits the story teller. It helps the story teller
tell their story and get the outcome or results they hope to see from the reader
/audience through the use of all the elements that have been discussed throughout.
This is exemplified through the social media today. The media reveals information
to its audience in such ways that people believe it to be the truth and they don t
often question it. But what people fail to realise is that there is always more to a
story than what is just presented to you. Story tellers only tell one side of a story

22. The Veil Of Ignorance In Rawls Theory Of Justice
This paper examines the Veil of Ignorance in Rawls theory of justice. The
beginning of the paper shall define and explain the original position and veil of
ignorance. The paper will explore the various implications of Rawls application of
the Veil of Ignorance and its use in establishing his conception of justice. The paper
shall look into the different criticisms of the veil of ignorance followed by the
conclusion.
Rawls uses the original position as an alternative to the state of nature and is
regarded by Rawls as the appropriate initial situation for a social contract as justice is
the first virtue of social institutions, as truth is of systems of thought. (Rawls 3) He

Number Fifteen: The Program Has Been in the Same Time Slot for 40 Years.
After bouncing around time slots for a while, mostly due to FCC programing
regulations, CBS scheduled 60 Minutes for 7 PM on Sunday nights starting in 1975.
With the exception of sports presentations going overtime, it remains in this time slot
to this day, making it the longest running prime time show in history.
Number Fourteen: It Floundered at First, but Now Has the Highest Ratings of Any

News programs were never seen as a big draw during prime time hours when 60

26. Research on the Communicative Skills of Dogs
We all learn from one another and wolves, like dogs, can learn from us as well.
Dogs are more skillful than great apes at a number of tasks in which they must read
human communicative signals like indicating the location of hidden food. However,
the main objective of these studies was to determine whether the skills that doghave
today have arisen from the hundreds of years of domestication and co evolution with
humans, or if these were already in their genes from their wolf ancestors (Bates 2013).
The modern wolf comes from a long history of canines, which have adapted to
survive in many different environments. They adapt their diet to the food that is
available where younger wolves watch and learn from the other members of the
pack, a behavior commonly known as cultural transmission. The alpha wolves order
the others on where to go, when to hunt and where to make a den. Wolves like dogs
act upon orders.
Genetic and archaeological evidence shows that humans domesticated wolves on
more than one occasion. Domesticated wolves provided early humans with a guard
animal, a source of food, fur, and a beast of burden. The process continues to this
day, with the intentional artificial selection and crossbreeding of dogs to create new
breeds. The objective of these studies was to answer the question whether their roots
were present before dogs became man s best friend or not? Friederike Range and

27. Essay on Exploring Why We Enjoy the Anti-Hero
There is no doubt that the popularity of the anti hero as we know it has increased in
recent times. With unlikely, yet popular moral gray protagonists like Jack Bauer,
Dexter, and Gregory House leading some of the most popular TV shows and
characters like James Bond, Lisbeth Salander, Tyler Durden (from Fight Club), and
Jack Sparrow being some of the most memorable in movies, it is not surprising that
there has been an increased interest to understand what causes this characters to be
so popular (Peter Jonason in et al., 193). What is it that makes them as likeable, if
not more, than a normal hero? How come we relate to characters that perform actions
that, if done in real life, would cause us to see them in a whole different light?

This presents a problem in anti hero stories, where, according to them, moral
judgment plays an insignificant role in antihero liking (1037). Therefore, ADT, while
effective in measuring likeability of heroic protagonists, fails to measure that of
antiheroes. To try to measure the enjoyment of antiheroic stories, Shafer and Raney
conducted two studies. In the first one, a group of students was split into two groups.
One watched and antihero movie and the other a movie with a classical hero
protagonist. Through various points in the film, the viewers were asked to rate the
protagonist likeliness on a scale from 0 to 50, with 25 being neutral. Here are the

Brand recognition is a powerful asset for these firms. To maintain recognition and

Unfortunately, these changes did not occur over an extended period of time and are

35. Global Warming And Its Effects On Society
Another important fact in Global warming is known for causing more natural
disasters such as floods, wildfires, heat waves, tropical storms, and etc. (Jones,
2010). This seems to me to come into place as common sense if temperatures
escalate, glaciers will melt and as a conclusion, it will possibly make the oceans rise
causing erosion.
Therefore, stated in the article Greenhouse Effect, enlightened numerous lower
regions, mainly experiencing warmer temperatures in their climates (Losev, 2014).
By reading this article I absorbed that it s just not any country, it seems to happen to
underdeveloped countries that have the main effects because they are not dominate
(Kuczynski, Vidal, Li etc., 2011). I have considered that a dominant society compared
to none dominate culture will have the resources to stop these harmful chemicals into
their society before it causes harm to their nation and then into others. Another critical
factor of climate change is pollutions and pollen. As stated by the authors, the rising
temperatures can lead to an extensive season for individuals, meaning extensive
allergy issues (Todea, Suatean, Coman etc., 2013.).
In the article, Melt or Grow? Fate of Himalayan Glaciers Unknown, scientist has
stated that global warming is like a snowball effect, people care, but then reinforce

The effects of warming temperatures are actually taking a big chunk out of our

In the poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, the authors chose to emphasize
wealth as a reflection of the customs and traditions of the respective countries.
Because both cultures favored heroic deeds, those who displayed the most heroic
actions were appropriately rewarded in the form of material wealth. Generally, the
more affluent members of society took on the responsibility of rewarding honorable
actions because they had the means available to reward the soldiers. The king,
sometimes called the ring giver, also dispersed wealth as a way to guarantee loyalty
and bravery from his soldiers. Additionally, nations often exchanged wealth as a
method of ensuring peace between the two nations. In contrast to the expected

The story of Beowulf begins with a short narrative of Shield Sheifson. Though he
began as a foundling, he grew to be a great hero who was widely admired for his
courageous actions and heroic achievements. During his funeral, the narrator states
that ...they [Spear Danes] stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the
mast, amidships, the great ring giver. Far fetched treasures were piled upon him,
and precious gear. I never heard before of a ship so well furbished with battle
tackle, bladed weapons and coats of mail. The massed treasure was loaded on top
of him: it would travel far out into the ocean s sway. The decision to begin the story
with Shield Shiefson was a way of introducing the theme of wealth and
demonstrating the respect he received for his heroic achievements. The story goes
on to tell of Beowulf s adventures, as he takes on various challenges in an attempt to
make a name for himself and gain wealth through heroic deeds. Before receiving
his reward, Beowulf presented king Hrothgar with Grendel s arm as proof of his
victory during battle. After his second battle, he returned with Grendel s head as
well as the hilt of the magical sword he used to kill Grendel s mother. Because the
kings often rewarded his heroic deeds with treasure, Beowulf gained a great amount
of wealth

time was spent on understanding how discourse communities function and what a
discourse community really is. This knowledge is extremely useful for future
classes, and even in future jobs. In John Swales s, The Concept of Discourse

specific genres, and have an amount of members that is necessary for the

These events, which focused on Egypt attempting to free itself from colonial
influence, as well as giving rise to nationalistic pride in the country, inadvertently
resulted in hostility, distrust and suspicion towards them, mostly by France and
Britain (Kyle, 2011, p.115).
Meanwhile, the British and the French were colonial powers which prior to the
start of the Second World War, had empires which were large and expansive. They
had colonies in the Carribean, in Africa, as well as in Asia. Whilst both countries
came out of the war as victors, they had suffered embarrassing early defeats to
Japan and Germany respectively, which was a knock to colonial prestige (Nairn,
2003, p.3). The post war scenario was one in which colonies like Indochina and
India rose up to demand independence and the right for self determination from
their previous rulers. It was clear to many in this time period that the traditional
system of empire was finished, and with it the power of previous colonial rulers
(Hyam, 2006, p.239). Britain and France, not surprisingly, were unwilling to let this
happen. When Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal, they saw this as a threat to their
already diminishing empire, as not only would it lead inevitably to the loss one by
one of all our interests and assets in the Middle East (Hyam, 2006, p.227), it would
also lead to an increase in distance between their
40. The Inaugural AFL Women s Football League
On March 21, 2016, it was announced that the inaugural AFL women s football
league would begin with a two month season in February and March, 2017.
AFL clubs were invited to apply for a licence in this inaugural eight team competition.
On June 15, 2016, the eight clubs selected to form the initial competition were
announced. They were the Adelaide Crows, the Brisbane Lions, Carlton,
Collingwood, the Fremantle Dockers, the GWS Giants, Melbourne and the Western
Bulldogs.
Many have welcomed the new competition as a significant advance in women s
sport, opening up a high profile code to greater participation from women.

This new women s competition will supply women and girls all over Australia with
these positive role models.
Another argument suggests that most women are currently not interested in AFL and
that the game is simply trying to extend its fan base, and not assist sportswomen.
Although there may be some truth in this statement, having a woman s AFL league
would still hugely encourage young girls and woman to participate in the sport.
Not all women are going to want to play AFL but that can be said for any sport, for
both males and females. Some people enjoy playing basketball, and others enjoy
competitive swimming. We all have different tastes in sport which is completely
understandable because we re all different. So are we basing this decision of whether
to continue growing and improving our woman s AFL league on the fact that not all
woman want to participate in the sport? I think that s something we need to
41. Pcob Section 101
Title I of the SOX comprises the creation of the Public Accounting Oversight Board
(PCAOB) (Sarbanes Oxley Act, 2002). The PCAOB is a private sector, nonprofit
corporation which oversees the auditors of public companies. It is to protect the
interests of the investors and to further the public interest when preparing
informative, fair, and independent audit reports. The title consists of 9 subsections.
Section 101 describes the establishment of PCAOB, which consists of 5 full time
members, 2 of which are CPAs, all selected by the SEC (Philipp, CPA, CGMA,

42. Essay on The Moor in the Works of William Shakespeare
The Sources and Representations of the Moor in the Works of Shakespeare
One theme consistently reemployed throughout Shakespeare s plays is that of the
Other. The Other is usually characterized as a character that is somehow separated,
stigmatized, or noted as being different from the mainstream ideal. For the
Elizabethan England of Shakespeare s time, it may have been a self defensive
maneuver against the encroachment of something which threatened too close to home
(Bartels 450). Bryant lists several methods used to employ this convention of the
Other: race such as that of Shylock and Aaron, nationality as in Iachimo, bastardy
such as the characters Don John and Edmund, social status such as that belonging to
Iago, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the term Moor had a definition of white or black, of pagan or Muslim
religion, or area of origin seems to be interchangeable when one notes the differences
between Shakespeare s four characters. Sources of the Elizabethan image of the Moor
most likely came from sources such as classical descriptions, actual encounters, travel
narratives, and literary conventions (Bartels 433).
Why is the Moor prevalent during Shakespeare s time? What was the importance
of or the sources for this new Other in English literature? Shakespeare uses the
Moor as being characterized in several ways and used for varied dramatic purposes.
In order to have a full understanding of the Moorish character in Shakespeare s
works, one must look to history s relations and depictions of the Moor and how it
influenced Shakespeare.
Moors were characterized in Elizabethan England as being alternately or even
simultaneously noble or monstrous, civil or savage. Being a different race meant,
primarily, being an Other, non English, as well as non Christian (Braxton 8). The
term Moor, as I have noted before, was fairly vague in definition. Bartels points out
that in common usage, the word was used many times interchangeably with similarly
ambiguous terms as African, Ethiopian, Negro, and even Indian
43. Case 4 Warehouse Clubs
Case 4: Competition among the North American Warehouse Clubs: Costco
Wholesale vs. Sam s Clubs vs. BJ s Wholesale 1. Competition in the North
American wholesale club industry is mildly intense. The players in the wholesale
club industry try to achieve lower prices by reducing throughout the store by using
pallets or inexpensive shelving to display items. They also incur very low costs for
store decoration and light fixtures and a relatively low labor cost because of the use
of fewer works and employees to operate the facility. The importance of the five
competitive forces among the industry is high. Consequently, rivalry among
competing sellers, buyers, and suppliers are the most important. The case discusses
major wholesale clubs, so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Five years from now, Costco s standing as the industry s leader is likely to be
stronger. Because of their functioning strategy and the management s understand of
the company s overall vision will be vital in Costco s success. Costco s most
important clients are not their shareholders, but their members and customers. Even
in the midst of the shareholders opinions and the Wall Street criticisms, Costco
stays true to the commitment to their members. Costco s strategy of offering the
lowest possible prices to not only small businesses and such, but to individual
households, will help them excel in this industry. Sam s Club is the rival that is
gaining strength, but still has not met the standards of Costco. The issue with Sam s
Club is they operate much like the supercenter, Wal Mart, which owns Sam s Club.
Their operation cost is high, as compared to Costco. Costco only keeps in stock a
certain amount of items and constantly change their items to keep customers coming
back time after time to gain the best possible bargain. 6. The recommendations I
would make to Jim Sinegal regarding the actions that Costco management needs to
take to sustain the company s growth and improve its financial performance would
be to focus more on advertisement and marketing. Marketing and advertising through
media instead of depending on word of mouth, could result in a dramatic increase in
sales and knowledge of this wholesale club. Because of the low cost of running a
44. Social Commentary In Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice In Pride and Prejudice Austen offers up commentary on a
variety of themes prejudice, family, marriage, class, and so on. Of all the themes,
perhaps none is better developed than that of Pride. Pride and Prejudice is
regarded as a brilliant piece of social commentary, offering a vivid peek into the
British Regency life in 1813. The social milieu of Austen s Regency England was
particularly stratified, and class divisions were rooted in family connections and
wealth. In her work, Austen is often critical of the assumptions, pride, and
prejudices of upper class England. Austen often satirizes England s prideful
individuals; the England she depicts is one in which social mobility is limited, and
class consciousness and pride are relatively strong. It seems that pride is what
hinders the characters from revealing their potentially best nature. Firstly, pride is a
constant presence in characters attitudes and treatment of each other, colouring their
judgments and leading them to make rather foolish mistakes, especially in the case
of Darcy and Elizabeth. The novel, Pride and Prejudice, implies that no one is ever
completely free of pride. In fact, it is pride what prevents Elizabeth and Darcy from
revealing their true feelings about each other. Austen s plot often features characters
forging their respective ways through an established and rigid social hierarchy.
Darcy and Elizabeth s love is shaped and hindered by pride, and therefore they must
elude and
45. Harlequin And Brine s Service Excellence
Many modern restaurants have become chef centric and customer service has
suffered as a byproduct. Some of the nation s top restaurants have instituted a policy
of asking diners to leave if they take out their phone and try to take pictures of their
meal. For far too long, restaurateurs have neglected the customerservice aspect of the
business, creating serious opportunity for restaurants able to produce quality products
while also maintaining good customer service. This paper examines the notion of
creating service excellence in an upscale casual restaurant through a customer focused
culture.
Harlequin and Brine will be a casual restaurant with fine dining quality food, craft
beer, and live music. It will showcase a butcher inspired menu, regional craft beer,
local bands, and it will be located just a few miles from George Mason University.
Harlequin and Brine can easily become successfully by ceasing the opportunity of
marketing the restaurant as a customer focused.
Counterintuitively, Harlequin and Brine s service excellence will stem from putting
their employees above their customers. Employee morale and job satisfaction have a
strong impact on customer service (Landis, Vick, Novo, 2015). Only genuinely happy
employees will stop at nothing to make customers truly hospitable. Restaurant
employees that know that neither the food nor the ... Show more content on

46. Western Imperialism and Modern East Asia Essay example
Western imperialism in East Asia caused many tribulations for China, Japan, and
Korea but also helped them to become contemporary nations. The East Asian
countries were tremendously affected by unequal treaties, extraterritoriality, and
above all, technology. Great Britain encroached upon China their greed for open trade
with the Chinese empire resulting in the deterioration of the Chinese culture, which
led to the emergence of a modernized civilization. Japan was co subjugated by Russia
and the United States so that the trade routes of these western countries could extend
into the east, which resulted in the foundation of industrialization in Modern East Asia
. Finally, the spread of western Christianity and influential neighbors,... Show more

Chinese traders began exchanging tea and silver to The East India Company for a
return of Bengali opium imports. Consequently, as the opium addicts rose, so did the
supply and demand of exports from Great Britain to China. The ensuing drug
trafficking accordingly corrupted many Chinese officials. The opium cartel held by
The East India Company made other British agents unhappy, as they too wanted
trading monopolies with China in areas such as industrialized textiles. By 1834,
Great Britain directed Lord Napier to bypass the commerce authority in China, the
Cohong, and negotiate matters of trade with China s governor general who declined
any business agreements for the reason that the Chinese saw no reason to sully their
dignity by dealing with barbarians . (pp. 298) Hence, in 1839, when Imperial
Commissioner Lin Zexu arrived in the Chinese trading port of Guangzhou to
suppress the opium transfer, war broke out between Great Britain and China.
Commissioner Zexu was successful in eradicating the opium from the port, yet the
Opium War was a defeat for the Chinese and their morality. Queen Victoria of Great
Britain quickly retaliated on China and gained British compensation to their exported
commodities and an agreement from China for the repayment to British peddlers for
their destroyed property. Chinese officials were also forced to not only expand
Western trade giving British merchants direct access to the Qing court
47. Bus Service Is The Most Common Vision
Bus service is the most common vision that comes to mind when one thinks about
Urban Public transportation. The Bloomington Normal area uses Connect Transit,
which has multiple buses and routes throughout the area. Although the Connect
Transit system is very helpful for most students, allowing us to go to the mall with
friends, visit target for food and needed items, or visiting the downtown, it can also
prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to rely
everyday on it. After riding the busfor more than an hour, making two transfers
along the way and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma
regarding public transportation exists. Public transit situates is so that we are
given license to accept what s right in front of us, but will likely arouse our desire
to compare our narrative to someone else s, to give ourselves permission to
speculate upon a person s private space, or life, with no fear of recourse or
punishment (Wilson, 2012). In order to view the barriers that low income people
face on a daily basis when it comes to riding the bus, I rode the available public
transportation, allowing for detailed observation.
I arrived at the Normal Uptown Station at 4:50, prepared to take the Orange H bus
through Normal, to Eastland mall. I knew that the bus would be arriving at 55
minutes past the hour, so I looked up and down the row of already parked buses,
and when I did not see the Orange, I sat down on one of the
