Medea Dilemma Analysis
Euripides, an influential dramatist in Greek culture is celebrated for his famous
tragedies which examine the shadier side of human nature. Many of Euripides s plays
present the audience with a dilemma. As one reviews the passages and unfolding story,
the message causes the reader to dig deep and evaluate personal morals because the play
is intended to be a tragic moral dilemma. In the play Medea, Euripidesgives his audience
many different situations to consider. One specific dilemma causes the reader to
question Medea s state of mind. Situations arise whereupon the reader contemplates
whether Medea acted out of reckless rage or with rational, well thought out plans. At
the onset of the play, the reader is introduced to the first character, the nurse. A
concerned monologue ensues and the nurse bewails the dire situation of her mistress,
Medea. In this monologue, one hears, through the tormented ravings of the nurse, how
furious and upset Medea has been acting. The nurse is even fearful for the safety of
Medea s children because of Medea s actions. This point of view aids the reader in
examining how others in Medea s life view her thus giving the audience an initial view
of Medea through another character s lens. Soon after the nurse s grief stricken rantings,
Medea is introduced: Aiai. / I have suffered in my wretchedness, suffered woes which
call for great laments. O accursed children of a hateful mother, may you die with your
father, may the whole house fall in ruin (Euripides 4). From these first few lines, one
could pose the unthinkable question, Who could hurt their own children ? Most likely,
the average man and woman care for and are anxious for the safety of their children. If
Medea is considering harming her children, the reader could question the clarity of her
conscience. The natural man s instinct could trigger at this point and a question could
be established. How could a mother speak these dark words about her own offspring?
One could begin to rationalize the situation and establish a summary of Medea s
emotional outburst. Hopefully, a motherly instinct will overpower the rantings of
flaunted anger and Medea will remember the love for her children. Medea herself says in
this line
The Controversy Between Cathode Rays And Leads To The...
In 1894, J.J. Thomson, an English physicist, began a series of experiments that would
resolve the controversy about cathode rays and lead to the discovery of the first
subatomic particle. In order to do this successfully, Thompson constructed a cathode
ray tube that allowed him to determine the ratio of the cathode ray particle s charge to
its mass. The cathode ray tube Thompson constructed was an air tight glass tube that
had a cathode and an anode (with a small slit) attached to a power source, an
electromagnet, a pair of charged plates, and a zinc sulfide coating at the front of the
tube. The cathode is a negatively charged metal electrode which produces cathode rays,
whereas the anode is a positively charged electrode that allows electrons... Show more

When the ray bent, Thompson noticed that it was bending toward the positive plate. He
concluded that the beam must consist of negatively charged particles, for the beam was
attracted to the positive charge, and opposite charges always attract. From these two
observations, Thompson concluded that the ray had a negative charge and the particles
that made up the cathode rays were 1,000 times smaller than a Hydrogen atom. After
coming to these conclusions, Thompson then swapped out the type of metal that was in
the cathode tube with a variety of other metals and was left with the conclusion that all
of the different metals he used gave off the same cathode rays. These observations put
together gave way to the Plum Pudding Model, which showed that the atom is composed
of electrons surrounded by a positive charge to balance the electrons negative charges,
and a formula for determining the electron charge to mass ratio: (e/m), where e is the
magnitude of the electrons charge and m is the mass. By discovering and observing the
electron, Thomson gave physicists an incentive to investigate

Golden Retriever History: Where and When Did They Originate?
A Golden Retriever is one of the most popular and recognizable breeds of today. Its
origins, however, were a subject of debate for a very long time. Many argued that they
came from a whole pack of Russian tracker sheepdogs bought from a circus. But it wasn
t until the earliest records of its history came out in 1952 that a Golden Retriever had an
origin to look back into. Time to set the record straight.
The Golden Retriever is an early 19th century breed that was developed after a long line
of breeding from the Irish setter, Tweed water spaniel and Newfoundland dogs, with a
goal to develop a hunting dog that has the size, endurance and ability to retrieve a large
number of game

Extraction of Trimyristin from Nutmeg
Introduction:
Seeds of plants are rich in triglycerides, the fatty acid esters of glycerol. Nutmeg s
triglycerides are mainly the glycerol ester of a single fatty acid which is called myristic
acid. This ester, called trimyristin, represents the 20 25% dried weight of nutmeg
(Wilcox amp; Wilcox, 120). The purpose of this lab is to isolate trimyristin from nutmeg
by performing a simple solid liquid extraction and to purify the trymyristin using the
method of recrystallization.
Procedure:
Place 5 g of nutmeg and 50 mL of DCM into a 100 mL round bottom flask, and reflux
the mixture for 30 minutes. Refer to p.120 (E) in Wilcox amp; Wilcox. Rotary
evaporation will be used instead of steam distillation.
Data:
Mass of Nutmeg| 5.0127g| Mass of Crude Trimyristin| 2.3516 g| % Yield of Crude| 46.91
%| Mass of Pure Trimyristin| 0.3352 g| % Recovery from Recrystallization| 6.69%|
Overall % Yield from Nutmeg| 10.5%(pure); 45.6%(crude+pure)|
Results/Discussion: The percent recovery from recystallization and the overall percent
yield from nutmeg are extremely low due to the loss of trimyristin from filtration and the
round bottom flask. The literature IR and the experiment IR are very similar, containing
many of the same peaks; therefore, the purification of trimyristin was done successfully
with a smaller than expected
Meet N Eat Diner Descriptive Writing
Maybe I should have worn my checked flannel shirt and blended in. Instead, I chose to
wear black cargo pants and a plain black and gray knit sweater. A heavy duty insulated
charcoal parka, black gloves, and woollen cap, kept the biting wind at bay. My black
boots crunched on the loose gravel of the road as I stepped off the sidewalk and made
my way to the diner I d finally spotted at the end of the street.
The Meet n Eat Diner looked inviting. My stomach made noises in approval as I
entered and made my way to the counter to sit on an orange and white vinyl stool. A
waitress came over, handed me a menu and asked if I wanted a coffee.

Descriptive Essay On Destitute Beauty
Destitute Beauty In the large city of New York, there are many beautiful people. I am
not one of them. I can pass hours away sitting in a coffee shop in a tall seat next to the
window, watching the beauties pass, seeing my reflection against them even more
bloated and lumpy than normal. Some of them notice me. Most of them don t. It
doesn t matter. Like I said, New York is a large city, I ll never see them again. And
anyway, I m sure they re used to people staring. How could they not be, they draw
people with their large, black rimmed eyes and lean figures and cutting jawbones like
dogs to the enticing smell of meat. I am just another dog, one they will forget in
moments. And when the sun sets, and the beautiful people fade away and the crowd
becomes faceless and intoxicated, that s when I leave, and where I stay until the sun
rises, becoming one with the pulse and throb of the mass. Promising myself that the
next day, yes, the next day, I ll get a job, ignore the cold, gorgeous people, succeed
even with my lumps, and papery skin, and eyes that are just a little too far apart. And
the next day, with my headache, I return. Today is yesterday and the day before. The
sun is especially bright now, almost passive aggressively bright, shining smugly
through the haze that buries the city, bouncing into the small cafe in which I spend
most of my time. It s supposed to be homey, with nearly dead plants hanging skeletal
by the windows and overstuffed couches near a coffee table. I sit in the uncomfortable
seat that s almost comically tall, at the only table next to a window. The barista Ellen is
chatting happily with a customer, she barely notices me anymore. Which is fine by me.
A woman, with long legs and hollows under her cheekbones, struts past the cafГ©, a
mere foot away from me. She doesn t notice my stare. It s a funny thing. People talk all
they want about feeling when people stare at them, getting goosebumps and looking
around frantically for their admirer. But either it isn t true, or I m not important enough
for my stare to mean anything, hold any weight. Searching through the crowd, I find
parts and pieces that I want most, playing a game I often play. Her taut stomach, her long
legs, her bright eyes,
Computer Misuse Act
In this article the Computer Misuse Act 1990 was raised. It states that a teenage from
Dorset England. Aaron Caffrey aged 19 had apparently sent a virus to another person

of hacking into the system and sent a virus use cause the either network of computers

The law that he had broken was the Computer Misuse Act 1990 the law states the
following:
The Act contains three main offences which are categorised under the following Sections:

or any intended effect of it of a kind mentioned in subsection (2) above is, or is intended
to be, permanent or merely temporary. (http://www.geek.org.uk/~arny/cmuse.html)
So looking at the act above we can see that The Computer Misuse Act was created to
prevent unauthorised access to computer systems and also to deter the more criminal
elements in society from using a computer to assist in the commission of a criminal
offence or from impairing or hindering access to data stored in a
Yellow Wallpaper Oppressed
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story that portrays a
mentally ill young woman. The story is illustrated in first person, narrated by the woman
s point of view. The woman suffers through a nervous depression, and is spending three
months in a rented old mansion with her husband and family. Based on her descriptions
of her stay, one can tell that she was being oppressed, treated unjustly like many women
in this time period. She is oppressed through three connected things, her mental illness,
the room in which she is staying, and her husband. First, the unnamed womanhas a
temporary nervous depression. She takes phosphates, and tonics, and journeys, and air,
and exercise, and is absolutely forbidden to work until she is well again. The condition
and everyone wanting for her to be cured is the main reason why she is oppressed
throughout the story. Personally, she is a very anxious person and has troubles coping
with her surroundings in a normal, healthy way. Her mental breakdowns, however, can
be caused by the oppression she faces.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The room in which she is secluded in most of the time has a yellow wallpaper that
completely drives her insane. She is annoyed by the color and smell, and even sees
patterns within the paper and feels that there is a woman creeping at her through the
paper. She describes the wallpaper in her journal with things such as, the color is hideous
enough, and unreliable enough, and infuriating enough, but the pattern is torturing ,
vicious influence , smell of fungus, and the woman shakes behind it, always creeping .
In a way, one could argue that the yellow wallpaperis symbolic of the oppression that
the woman faced, as evidenced by the ending where she creeps over her husband and
says she pulled out most of the paper at last, so you can t put me
Essay about Television as We Know it Today
Television as We Know it Today The Power Rangers, RoadRunner, Bugs Bunny and Yo

we build our child s playtime. You sit your child in front of the television for hours at a
time. They stair at the screen with glossy eyes and total amazement. Yet what is it that
they are learning from these shows? It is the hidden message of violenceand dysfunction,
which keeps children entertained. If you look at all of the shows, which I have
mentioned above, they seem to have a common theme. Violence. Whether this message is
intended or not is another issue, however, the violence is there. The Power Rangersfor

More and more children are committing acts of rage and terror. Why do we fear our
youth, the future of our society, our tomorrow? Our children have been given notions
of immortality in an otherwise mortal world. Even if it is not always the direct cause
to their violence it has helped them to accept violence due to the manner and
frequency of which it is presented to them. They view it on a daily basis; it is
available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Look back to the recent attack of Columbine.
A small school which no one had ever heard of, until April 20, 1999, when 12 children
and 1 teacher, lost their lives. (www.geocities.com/dreampackers) This is not to say that
there aren t many other stronger sources to blame, however, such violence has not
always been a prominent issue. Violence in our society has increased. This is greatly due
to how common violence has become in everyday life. Televisionexposes us to violence
as being humorous, glamorous, thrilling, and above all else entertaining. Before the
widespread use of television there was not such a great extent to the violent acts which
children committed. Television was not created to have such a dramatic impact on our
society. It was not created to change our personal image, our moral standards or even our
perception of reality. Rather it was set forth to keep us entertained on our spare time;

Adderall Synthesis Essay
Adderall is most commonly administered orally for absorption in the gut, aided by
taking the drug combined with lipids; food does not affect absorption as it does with
most drugs, including Ritalin, the other drug often prescribed for ADHD. Onset
occurs after three hours. After absorption, it is metabolized in the kidneys, with acidic
diet speeding up the rate of metabolism. In general, the half life is approximately 10
hours. Depot binding lowers bioavailability. I would have liked to see a little more
information on why Adderall works as described. For instance, I was left wondering
why Adderall is not affected by food in the gut, why it seems to take so long for onset,
and how acidic diet can speed up metabolism. Adderall acts on the neurotransmitters
norepinephrine and dopamine via metabotropic receptors, on which it is a full agonist,
blocking binding of the neurotransmitters to the receptors. A little more detail on this
area would be ideal, because it was unclear to me whether there is a norepinephrine
system that has the effects, or if Adderall is simply affected norepinephrine in various
different areas.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like other amphetamine drugs, Adderall decreases appetite. Irritability, anxiety, and
trouble sleeping also can result from Adderall stimulant properties. Tolerance and
physical dependency are produced in this drug by downregulation of the receptors for
norepinephrine and dopamine that occurs over time. Therefore, ceasing use may produce
withdrawal symptoms of fatigue, depression, and increased irritability. As with the rest of
the infographic, more details would be great. However, I found the aesthetic refreshingly
unique. In my opinion, it looks as if this person put thought into making their project

A Changing Lifestyle At The Age Of Thirty
A Changing Lifestyle
At the age of thirty, I am still trying to find my place in the world. I have moved in and
out of my parents home several times, and each time I have learned important lessons
about life. Gaining independence is often a long and difficult struggle. At the age of
nineteen, I moved out of my parents house. Becoming independent for the first time was
great. My first apartment was small; it had a one bedroom, and my rent was affordable.
When I moved in to the apartment, I smelled the fresh paint on the walls, I see that it
had two windows and carpet that felt soft on my feet. I had an old neighbor that lived
next door to me to whom I started to become friends. His named was Joe and we would
always set around talk and have strawberry cheesecake. Ponderosa Steak House was
where I was working when I lived on my own. I worked there four years both baker and

and I were partying too much. My friends that I had enjoyed partying, and I often joined
them. We would hang out at my place all night. We drank alcohol

weekend. I fell in love with the wrong person whom I dated for four years. My ex s
boyfriend was also in to alcohol. We were drinking all the time; however, we would fight
on a regular basis. I had to move back into my parents house in order to get myself back

Who Is The Spinning Jenny And How Is It Significant To The...
In 1764, during the Industrial Revolution, the textiles industry changed forever when the
first spinning machine was invented. The Royal Society of Arts offered a prize for an
invention that could spin six threads at once but would only need one person to attend to
it. One of the inventors that took to the challenge was James Hargreaves, 1720 to 1778,
who produced the Spinning Jenny, a machine that mechanically reproduced the actions of
the hand spinner. The Spinning Jenny was significant to the development and progress of
the Industrial Revolutionand it also had a momentous impact on not only yarnproduction
but also people s lives, in particular people in England.

The 1764 invention, that wasn t patented until 1770, had eight smaller wheels, instead of
one, which allowed the operator to spin eight threads at the one time, as shown in source
two. This modern day sketch shows the design and construction of the Spinning Jenny
and how all eight different spindles were powered by a single wheel. This meant that one
spinster could produce eight threads in the same time it had previously taken to produce
one. This advance in spinning machinery meant that the quality and strength of yarn and
cloth was greatly improved. Hargreaves invention best spun the short fibres of regular
length, such as cotton. The cotton yarn produced was considered to be of very good
quality. However, the wool yarn from the Spinning Jenny was quite unsatisfactory. This
was due to the irregular lengths which resulted in lumpy, uneven
Katherine Water Experiment
Part one
Katherine wants to investigate if the time of day a plant is watered affects the growth of
the plant. She hypothesizes that a plant watered in the morning will grow faster than a
plant watered at other times of the day.
The independent variable in this experiment is the time of day at which the plant is
watered. I know this because that is the one thing being changed in the experiment. The
dependent variable is the growth of the plant. I know this because growth of the plant
comes directly after affects
Some controlled variables in this experiment would be: the amount of sunlight, the
amount of water, the temperature, the humidity, and type of soil. Each Plant would
need to be in the same area by being placed in the same window sill, same area outside,
etc. Katherine would also have to measure the amount of water she was giving each plant
in order to assure that one plant didn t have an unfair advantage. She would also probably
have to put a thermometer on/in each pot of soil to insure that they all stayed around the
same temperature. As for humidity Katherine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between Barefoot Gen And Animal Farm
Barefoot Gen written by Keiji Nakazawa and Animal Farm written by George Orwell
are two stories that are relatively different from each other but contain a similar theme
of bystanderism. Bystanding is not seen as courageous and shows signs of weakness,
especially If someone were to perform terrible acts on a community member, and
everyone just stood and watched, or walked by without saying anything. It gives that
person complete power over everyone else and things often get worse. If no one ever
tells them off, nothing will change. A bystander is defined as a person that is present at
the event but doesn t get involved and we can see this is Barefoot Gen from the
neighborhood children and parents, the soldiers on the streets, and the kid s classmates.
In Animal Farm, bystanders are seen by the surrounding animals, where they see

beaten by police officers, Eiko, the daughter, was strip searched, and people bad mouth

Death of the Literate World in Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian
Ray Bradbury s short story, The Pedestrian, shows the not too distant future in a very
unfavorable light. The thinking world has been eaten away by the convenience that is
high technology. This decay is represented by the fate that befalls Leonard Mead. Though
only an isolated incident, it foreshadows the end of thinking, literatesociety.
The world in the year 2053 is populated by people who are more dead than alive. Their
technology has made them very lazy. Walking has become obsolete, as the title of the
story indicates. Leonard Mead is not a pedestrian; he is, in a city of three million people
(105), the pedestrian. Walking had become so uncommon, that the sidewalk was
vanishing under flowers and grass (104 105). Bradbury ... Show more content on

Leonard Mead hears nothing but whisperings and murmurs (104) coming from the
open windows he passes. The human voice has become so scarce, Mead hesitates each
time he hears one (104). Clearly Mead yearns to have any sort of conversation with a
real person. Reading has also become a casualty within the technologically advanced
world of the twenty first century. Mead was a writer, but he hadn`t written in years
(105). Dependence on television had created a world in which magazines and books didn
t sell anymore (105). Movie versions of books were as close as these people came to
reading.
The atmosphere is gloomy, with several references to a dying civilization. First, the
story is set in November. It is the beginning of the end. Secondly, Bradbury describes
walking through Mead s neighborhood as not unequal to walking through a graveyard
(104). Another reference to the doomed society is Bradbury s description of the houses
as being tomblike buildings (104).
But among this garbage heap of humanity stands Leonard Mead, a kind of Anti Christ.
Mead represents the last of the thinking human beings. Bradbury s description of Mead
as being alone in this world of 2053, A.D., or as good as alone (104) is a reference to
this situation. It is significant that Mead begins his walk in a westerly direction (104).
Like the sun passing from view, so is the walking, talking, thinking man. Mead is a
Essay On The Second Punic War
The Second Punic War
The Punic Wars were waged between Rome and Carthage, a city state founded on the
Gulf of Tunis by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BCE (United Nations Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization, 2015). The name Punic Wars comes from the fact
that Rome was ultimately the victor and therefore, the recorders of history. Punic is

Carthage was a powerful economic and territorial rival of Rome, with a strong presence
in the Western Mediterranean. The Second Punic War

  • 2. Medea Dilemma Analysis Euripides, an influential dramatist in Greek culture is celebrated for his famous tragedies which examine the shadier side of human nature. Many of Euripides s plays present the audience with a dilemma. As one reviews the passages and unfolding story, the message causes the reader to dig deep and evaluate personal morals because the play is intended to be a tragic moral dilemma. In the play Medea, Euripidesgives his audience many different situations to consider. One specific dilemma causes the reader to question Medea s state of mind. Situations arise whereupon the reader contemplates whether Medea acted out of reckless rage or with rational, well thought out plans. At the onset of the play, the reader is introduced to the first character, the nurse. A concerned monologue ensues and the nurse bewails the dire situation of her mistress, Medea. In this monologue, one hears, through the tormented ravings of the nurse, how furious and upset Medea has been acting. The nurse is even fearful for the safety of Medea s children because of Medea s actions. This point of view aids the reader in examining how others in Medea s life view her thus giving the audience an initial view of Medea through another character s lens. Soon after the nurse s grief stricken rantings, Medea is introduced: Aiai. / I have suffered in my wretchedness, suffered woes which call for great laments. O accursed children of a hateful mother, may you die with your father, may the whole house fall in ruin (Euripides 4). From these first few lines, one could pose the unthinkable question, Who could hurt their own children ? Most likely, the average man and woman care for and are anxious for the safety of their children. If Medea is considering harming her children, the reader could question the clarity of her conscience. The natural man s instinct could trigger at this point and a question could be established. How could a mother speak these dark words about her own offspring? One could begin to rationalize the situation and establish a summary of Medea s emotional outburst. Hopefully, a motherly instinct will overpower the rantings of flaunted anger and Medea will remember the love for her children. Medea herself says in this line
  • 3. The Controversy Between Cathode Rays And Leads To The... In 1894, J.J. Thomson, an English physicist, began a series of experiments that would resolve the controversy about cathode rays and lead to the discovery of the first subatomic particle. In order to do this successfully, Thompson constructed a cathode ray tube that allowed him to determine the ratio of the cathode ray particle s charge to its mass. The cathode ray tube Thompson constructed was an air tight glass tube that had a cathode and an anode (with a small slit) attached to a power source, an electromagnet, a pair of charged plates, and a zinc sulfide coating at the front of the tube. The cathode is a negatively charged metal electrode which produces cathode rays, whereas the anode is a positively charged electrode that allows electrons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ray bent, Thompson noticed that it was bending toward the positive plate. He concluded that the beam must consist of negatively charged particles, for the beam was attracted to the positive charge, and opposite charges always attract. From these two observations, Thompson concluded that the ray had a negative charge and the particles that made up the cathode rays were 1,000 times smaller than a Hydrogen atom. After coming to these conclusions, Thompson then swapped out the type of metal that was in the cathode tube with a variety of other metals and was left with the conclusion that all of the different metals he used gave off the same cathode rays. These observations put together gave way to the Plum Pudding Model, which showed that the atom is composed of electrons surrounded by a positive charge to balance the electrons negative charges, and a formula for determining the electron charge to mass ratio: (e/m), where e is the magnitude of the electrons charge and m is the mass. By discovering and observing the electron, Thomson gave physicists an incentive to investigate
  • 4. Golden Retriever Research Paper Golden Retriever History: Where and When Did They Originate? A Golden Retriever is one of the most popular and recognizable breeds of today. Its origins, however, were a subject of debate for a very long time. Many argued that they came from a whole pack of Russian tracker sheepdogs bought from a circus. But it wasn t until the earliest records of its history came out in 1952 that a Golden Retriever had an origin to look back into. Time to set the record straight. The Golden Retriever is an early 19th century breed that was developed after a long line of breeding from the Irish setter, Tweed water spaniel and Newfoundland dogs, with a goal to develop a hunting dog that has the size, endurance and ability to retrieve a large number of game

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Extraction of Trimyristin from Nutmeg Introduction: Seeds of plants are rich in triglycerides, the fatty acid esters of glycerol. Nutmeg s triglycerides are mainly the glycerol ester of a single fatty acid which is called myristic acid. This ester, called trimyristin, represents the 20 25% dried weight of nutmeg (Wilcox amp; Wilcox, 120). The purpose of this lab is to isolate trimyristin from nutmeg by performing a simple solid liquid extraction and to purify the trymyristin using the method of recrystallization. Procedure: Place 5 g of nutmeg and 50 mL of DCM into a 100 mL round bottom flask, and reflux the mixture for 30 minutes. Refer to p.120 (E) in Wilcox amp; Wilcox. Rotary evaporation will be used instead of steam distillation. Data: Mass of Nutmeg| 5.0127g| Mass of Crude Trimyristin| 2.3516 g| % Yield of Crude| 46.91 %| Mass of Pure Trimyristin| 0.3352 g| % Recovery from Recrystallization| 6.69%| Overall % Yield from Nutmeg| 10.5%(pure); 45.6%(crude+pure)| Results/Discussion: The percent recovery from recystallization and the overall percent yield from nutmeg are extremely low due to the loss of trimyristin from filtration and the round bottom flask. The literature IR and the experiment IR are very similar, containing many of the same peaks; therefore, the purification of trimyristin was done successfully with a smaller than expected

  • 8. Descriptive Essay On Destitute Beauty Destitute Beauty In the large city of New York, there are many beautiful people. I am not one of them. I can pass hours away sitting in a coffee shop in a tall seat next to the window, watching the beauties pass, seeing my reflection against them even more bloated and lumpy than normal. Some of them notice me. Most of them don t. It doesn t matter. Like I said, New York is a large city, I ll never see them again. And anyway, I m sure they re used to people staring. How could they not be, they draw people with their large, black rimmed eyes and lean figures and cutting jawbones like dogs to the enticing smell of meat. I am just another dog, one they will forget in moments. And when the sun sets, and the beautiful people fade away and the crowd becomes faceless and intoxicated, that s when I leave, and where I stay until the sun rises, becoming one with the pulse and throb of the mass. Promising myself that the next day, yes, the next day, I ll get a job, ignore the cold, gorgeous people, succeed even with my lumps, and papery skin, and eyes that are just a little too far apart. And the next day, with my headache, I return. Today is yesterday and the day before. The sun is especially bright now, almost passive aggressively bright, shining smugly through the haze that buries the city, bouncing into the small cafe in which I spend most of my time. It s supposed to be homey, with nearly dead plants hanging skeletal by the windows and overstuffed couches near a coffee table. I sit in the uncomfortable seat that s almost comically tall, at the only table next to a window. The barista Ellen is chatting happily with a customer, she barely notices me anymore. Which is fine by me. A woman, with long legs and hollows under her cheekbones, struts past the cafГ©, a mere foot away from me. She doesn t notice my stare. It s a funny thing. People talk all they want about feeling when people stare at them, getting goosebumps and looking around frantically for their admirer. But either it isn t true, or I m not important enough for my stare to mean anything, hold any weight. Searching through the crowd, I find parts and pieces that I want most, playing a game I often play. Her taut stomach, her long legs, her bright eyes,

  • 10. Yellow Wallpaper Oppressed Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story that portrays a mentally ill young woman. The story is illustrated in first person, narrated by the woman s point of view. The woman suffers through a nervous depression, and is spending three months in a rented old mansion with her husband and family. Based on her descriptions of her stay, one can tell that she was being oppressed, treated unjustly like many women in this time period. She is oppressed through three connected things, her mental illness, the room in which she is staying, and her husband. First, the unnamed womanhas a temporary nervous depression. She takes phosphates, and tonics, and journeys, and air, and exercise, and is absolutely forbidden to work until she is well again. The condition and everyone wanting for her to be cured is the main reason why she is oppressed throughout the story. Personally, she is a very anxious person and has troubles coping with her surroundings in a normal, healthy way. Her mental breakdowns, however, can be caused by the oppression she faces.... They view it on a daily basis; it is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Look back to the recent attack of Columbine. Adderall Synthesis Essay Adderall is most commonly administered orally for absorption in the gut, aided by taking the drug combined with lipids; food does not affect absorption as it does with most drugs, including Ritalin, the other drug often prescribed for ADHD. Onset occurs after three hours. After absorption, it is metabolized in the kidneys, with acidic diet speeding up the rate of metabolism. In general, the half life is approximately 10 hours. Depot binding lowers bioavailability. I would have liked to see a little more information on why Adderall works as described. For instance, I was left wondering why Adderall is not affected by food in the gut, why it seems to take so long for onset, and how acidic diet can speed up metabolism. Adderall acts on the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine via metabotropic receptors, on which it is a full agonist, blocking binding of the neurotransmitters to the receptors. A little more detail on this area would be ideal, because it was unclear to me whether there is a norepinephrine system that has the effects, or if Adderall is simply affected norepinephrine in various different areas.... Tolerance and physical dependency are produced in this drug by downregulation of the receptors for norepinephrine and dopamine that occurs over time. Therefore, ceasing use may produce withdrawal symptoms of fatigue, depression, and increased irritability. As with the rest of the infographic, more details would be great. The 1764 invention, that wasn t patented until 1770, had eight smaller wheels, instead of one, which allowed the operator to spin eight threads at the one time, as shown in source two. This modern day sketch shows the design and construction of the Spinning Jenny and how all eight different spindles were powered by a single wheel. This meant that one spinster could produce eight threads in the same time it had previously taken to produce one. This advance in spinning machinery meant that the quality and strength of yarn and cloth was greatly improved. Hargreaves invention best spun the short fibres of regular length, such as cotton. The cotton yarn produced was considered to be of very good quality. However, the wool yarn from the Spinning Jenny was quite unsatisfactory. This was due to the irregular lengths which resulted in lumpy, uneven

  • 17. Similarities Between Barefoot Gen And Animal Farm Barefoot Gen written by Keiji Nakazawa and Animal Farm written by George Orwell are two stories that are relatively different from each other but contain a similar theme of bystanderism. Bystanding is not seen as courageous and shows signs of weakness, especially If someone were to perform terrible acts on a community member, and everyone just stood and watched, or walked by without saying anything. It gives that person complete power over everyone else and things often get worse. If no one ever tells them off, nothing will change. A bystander is defined as a person that is present at the event but doesn t get involved and we can see this is Barefoot Gen from the neighborhood children and parents, the soldiers on the streets, and the kid s classmates. The kids are bullied, abused by other children, the father is beaten by police officers, Eiko, the daughter, was strip searched, and people bad mouth them on the streets, yet they do nothing because they do not want to be seen as traitors too. A specific story is when Hanada (a boy who ran from training) was caught and returned. The squad leader continuously beat him with a bat and called him horrendous words. The thinking world has been eaten away by the convenience that is high technology. This decay is represented by the fate that befalls Leonard Mead. Though only an isolated incident, it foreshadows the end of thinking, literatesociety. The world in the year 2053 is populated by people who are more dead than alive. Their technology has made them very lazy. Walking has become obsolete, as the title of the story indicates. Reading has also become a casualty within the technologically advanced world of the twenty first century. Mead was a writer, but he hadn`t written in years (105). Dependence on television had created a world in which magazines and books didn t sell anymore (105). Movie versions of books were as close as these people came to reading. The atmosphere is gloomy, with several references to a dying civilization. First, the story is set in November. It is the beginning of the end. Secondly, Bradbury describes walking through Mead s neighborhood as not unequal to walking through a graveyard (104). Another reference to the doomed society is Bradbury s description of the houses as being tomblike buildings (104). But among this garbage heap of humanity stands Leonard Mead, a kind of Anti Christ. Mead represents the last of the thinking human beings. Bradbury s description of Mead as being alone in this world of 2053, A.D., or as good as alone (104) is a reference to this situation. It is significant that Mead begins his walk in a westerly direction (104). Like the sun passing from view, so is the walking, talking, thinking man. Mead is a
