Rip Van Winkle Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Rip Van Winkle" presents both intriguing opportunities and
challenges. On one hand, Washington Irving's classic tale offers rich material for analysis,
allowing for exploration of themes such as time, change, and the consequences of inaction. On
the other hand, the story's nuanced narrative and layers of meaning require careful examination
to extract the depth embedded within.
Beginning with an understanding of Rip Van Winkle's character and the historical context in
which the story is set is crucial. Analyzing the protagonist's journey through time, the societal
transformations depicted, and the allegorical elements woven into the narrative demands a
comprehensive grasp of the text. This process requires meticulous attention to detail and a
discerning eye for subtleties, as Irving's writing often conceals profound insights beneath its
seemingly straightforward surface.
Developing a coherent thesis that encapsulates the essence of the essay and guides the analysis is
another challenging aspect. It necessitates the ability to synthesize the various components of the
story into a unified argument that sheds light on the overarching themes and messages.
Furthermore, maintaining a balance between summary and interpretation is key to ensuring the
essay's clarity and persuasiveness.
Moreover, the essay should strive to offer a fresh perspective or contribute to the existing
discourse on "Rip Van Winkle." This requires not only a comprehensive understanding of the
existing scholarship on the topic but also the ability to present original insights that engage the
reader and add value to the discourse.
While the challenges of writing an essay on "Rip Van Winkle" may seem daunting, they also
present an opportunity for intellectual exploration and critical thinking. The process of
unraveling the layers of meaning within Irving's work can be immensely rewarding for those
willing to invest the time and effort required.

Irish Literature And Rebellion Essay
Irish Literature and Rebellion
In the heart of every Irishman hides a poet, burning with nationalistic passion for
his beloved Emerald Isle. It is this same passion, which for centuries, Great Britain
has attempted to snuff out of the Catholics of Ireland with tyrannical policies and
the hegemony of the Protestant religion. Catholics were treated like second class
citizens in their native home. Centuries of oppression churned in the hearts of the
Irish and came to a boil in the writings and literature of the sons and daughters of
Ireland. The Literary Renaissance of Ireland produced some of the greatest writers
the world has seen. John O Leary said it best, literature must be national and
nationalism must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he was troubled at the thought that his pen could be the cause of war.
Although he was politically active, his focus was more on the cultural and literary
realms than on a violent rebellion
At the end of his life he was still wondering if his early writing had helped to seed
the rising, to send out / Certain men the English shot ( The Man and the Echo,
lines 11 12 ) (DLB 19, 420). [I was unable to find a copy of The Man and the Echo
in print so I downloaded and from the internet and have attached it.] He goes on
further to question how because of his poems, he has caused the destruction of
homes and families, Could my spoken words have checked / There whereby a
house lay wrecked? (The Man and the Echo, line 15 16). Yeats considers himself
responsible for the death of his friends and others family. He is disappointed that his
ink could be the reason for bloodshed.
The rising that Yeats is talking about is the Easter Risingof 1916. On April 24, 1916,
a group of Irishmen that called themselves the Irish Republican Brotherhood led by
Padraic Pearse and James Connolly s Ctizen Army, posted the Declaration of the
Republic on the door of the General Post Office in Dublin and declared Ireland a free
country. [I have also attached a copy of the Declaration of the Republic for reference.]
Unfortunately, although anticipated by the nationalist s leadership, the British
Troops quickly suppressed the rebellion and the

Both, India and Brazil, were colonies of the European nations for a long period of

Personal Narrative About Yosemite
When my dad first talked to me about Yosemite, he described it as the most epic
place on earth. I thought it would be pretty, but I never predicted how unreal it
would actually be. My experience there was one I can never fully put into words.
It was liberating, refreshing, and calming. I felt like a light inside of me had been
lit again. When I was staring out at the valley, all my problems seemed to drift
away. Standing at the top of Glacier Point, I take in a panoramic view of my
surroundings. Huge bundles of tourists walk around, taking photos and gasping at
the breathtaking view. I stand with my sister, 25 lb backpacking backpacks sit
heavily like a bag of rocks on our backs as we chew our green apple sour gum. My
dad leads us down... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we get closer to the floor of the valley, I get a better look at illilouette falls. The
falls shoot out of the granite rock and swim down into a small lake. We stop here
and dip our feet in the cold, but refreshing, water. I sit down on the side of the lake
and splash a bit. I also take the time to chew on a piece of spicy jerky and crunchy
apple. The food recharges my body, and I feel energy flood my body. Once back
on the trail, I drag myself up a set of switchbacks going up the steep rock face. The
sun is beating down at this point, and I wipe the sweat beading up on my forehead.
I feel as if I have been walking forever on the rocky path, small bushes, and plants
around me when we finally reach the top. The wind blows around me like a
tornado, helping me. As we start the descend down, it feels as if it takes forever
until we reach the Nevada Falls. They are loud and powerful and tumble down until
it becomes a stream with huge rocks poking out. Around the stream are green trees
and lots of plants. At the top of the falls, there is a footbridge which you are able to
cross. I myself cross it, peering at the falls, intrigued by how turbulent it is. Although
the falls are fast and tremendous, they have a calming effect on

Accommodation In Interdependent Relationships
Even within the best relationships, close partners do not always treat each other with
care and kindness. In interdependent relationships, it is inevitable that partners will
sometimes behave in a manner potentially destructive to the relationship. When faced
with dissatisfactory behaviours, the other partner has a choice: to respond in kind or
to accommodate. Accommodation refers to responding to a partner s destructive act
by inhibiting the impulse to reciprocate with another destructive act, and instead
behaving in a constructive manner. Caryl Rusbult and her colleagues (1991) first
identified accommodation as an important part of a relationship. They defined
accommodation in terms of the typology of responses to dissatisfaction in
relationships, which can vary along two dimensions: whether responses are
constructive or destructive to the relationship, and whether responses actively or
passively address the problem at hand. Within these two dimensions there are four
categories of response: exit involves actively harming a relationship (e.g.,... Show

Empirical evidence supports the hypothesis that individuals with a secure attachment
style are more likely to accommodate than those with an insecure attachment style.
Given that accommodation has been characterized as a relationship maintenance
behaviour, researchers also have suggested how accommodative behaviour may
benefit a relationship, repeatedly finding that accommodation is positively associated
with general relationship health. More specifically, accommodation promotes trust
between relationship partners. Furthermore, accommodation is associated with
persistence in relationships; in particular, longer lasting relationships are
characterized by high, mutual levels of accommodation between partners. Thus,
although accommodation involves some immediate personal cost, the payoff of long
term relationship health may be worth
Benefits Of A Virtual Technology Essay
Case Summary: When thinking about the top three points in the Kimberly Clack case
indicates the way customer s shop in store opposed to virtually. The case
demonstrates that there several adjustments that need to be completed with Virtual
Technology. These changes to this form of technology present an integrating end to
the traditional method for shopping in the business sector. In implementing these
strategies/changes will permit quicker feedback, more economical and adequate
training along with other forms of evaluation (O Brien and Marakas, 2009). One of
the benefits of virtual technology is this strategic form of technology embarks upon
the value of service rendered to companies similar to Kimberly Clark presents to
sellers within the company. Implementing formative strategies such as these aids in
the way buyers plan to shop. It equips the customer with the ability to virtually
compare product in more or a visual aspect even including a new product that hit the
market. Shoppers will have the flexibility to reflect upon the data retrieved from the
virtual technology to support the companies the product and the developmental
stages. These methods will promote that shopping with the opportunity to explore
product goods/services through a system that reconstructs the way we shop aisle by
aisle. This technique is more engaging for the customer to actively participate in
selecting items before making their virtual purchase opposed to being put on the spot
when shopping

Sexting
Introduction The sexting trend is gaining popularity with both teens and adults. Haag
and Cummings (2010), define sexting as the sending of sexually explicit messages
and/ or photos, primarily between mobile phones (p.1). However, sexually explicit
messages and photos can be sent through social media websites such as Facebook,
Twitter, and Instagram and over various electronic devices, such as tablets. Although
sexting between consenting adults is considered an acceptable activity, both adults
and teenagers are using electronic devices and social media outlets to engage in
inappropriate sexual activities (Matte, 2013). Since many teenagers are not legal
adults, the legal issues of teen sexting must be considered. In addition, the... Show

These sexts are often shown to or forwarded to friends and acquaintances.
Sometimes, the explicit photos contained in the texts are uploaded on social
media websites such as Facebook and Instagram or sent through email (Stone,
2009). Adults can easily access sexts shared with friends and posted online. Since
taking, possessing, and posting sexually explicit photographs of teenagers under
the age of 18 is a form of child pornography, teen sexting should be illegal (Matte,
2013). Frequently, teenage girls under the age of 18 date older males. Although
teenage boys under the age of 18 sometimes date adult females, this relationship is
not as common as the aforementioned relationship. According to Matte (2013), 51%
of teen girls cite pressure from guys as a reason to send explicit messages, while
only 18% of boys say so. This is of concern when there is already a power
imbalance in a relationship or an issue with self esteem (p.1). Young teenage girls
may feel obligated to engage in explicit sexual behavior in order to appear more
mature to their older boyfriends. Girls in such relationships must be aware of the
potential legal risks of sexting with adult males (Matte, 2013). In some
relationships, the male and female in the relationship have been less than a year
apart in age (Matte, 2013). Regardless of the age difference, any adult male in
possession of a sexually explicit photo of a minor can be
American Culture In The 1960 s
The 1960s were advertising s coming of age, when the industry mastered the
language of TV, appropriated the medium of photography and produced work of
unprecedented creativity. ( History: 1960s. ). Smoking everywhere, drinking hard
liquors, harassing women and cheating on wives was not considered as a bad manner
in the 60s. The first episode of MadMan conquered me with dissimilarities that were
acceptable in the 60s and are not much tolerable in our time. American culturein the
late 50s and 60s was created with a blended mix of icons such as TV shows,
fashion, and ads. America was full of prosperities and disillusions that were bounded

Evaluating The Size Of Tablets Essay
DESIGN:
There are many designs which can apply on our trolley but we need to check first
then we can apply that design because there are many little things which we have to
analyze first these things are as follow:
SIZE OF TABLETS: We should aware regarding size of tablets because there are
many sizes of tablets and there are different categories regarding size like 6 to 8.3
inches tablets come under small sizes. 8.9 to 10.1 inches size tablets come under
medium and over 10.1 inches come under large size tablets. It means we need a
space over 10.1 inches but we have to maintain size.
STAND FOR TABLET: We will create a different stand for tablets which will be
adjustable regarding sizes of tablets. If customers have large size tablet then they
do not need to adjust stand but if they have medium or small size tablets then they
can adjust size of stand according to size of their tablets. Every customer has
different size of tablets that s why we have to fit adjustable stand for the facility of

The Black Panther party was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966.
The Panthers placed militant self defense of minority communities against the U.S
Government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism through mass
organizing and community based program. (Baggins, Brian. Black Panther Party,
www.marxists.org/history/usa/workers/black panthers/.). During the 1960 s the
civil rights movement was at its full strength. The BPP fought for change in
America for African Americans and even other minority groups too. They wrote the
Black Panther: Ten Pointe Program in the book War Against the Panthers by Huey
Newton. It was a list of wants they believe they deserved from the government. For
example, point 2 in the list said We want full employment for our people , during
this time period many African Americans and other minority groups were being
discriminated against by not being hired by the business owners. Leaving many

people did. Minority groups couldn t fight back but they had The Black Panther party

The Current System of Collegiate Athletics and the NCAA
The current system of collegiate athletics and the NCAA Meggyesy, David. Athletes
In Big time College Sport. society 37.3 (2000): 24 28. Print. The NCAA has become
a revenue generator as college athletics have become a multi billion dollar sports
entertainment enterprise. The most prominent contradiction with the NCAA is that
amateur rules are applied to the athletes, while the rules of the market apply to the
university s athletic departments. By classifying athletes as amateur student athletes
the college athlete labor market does not fall under federal or state antitrust laws or
state workers compensation laws. The NCAA member schools are allowed to set the
wage for the student athlete and not give benefits to players who suffer injury. Due to
the rewards being bestowed onto the NCAA member schools and not the student
athletes who produce the product, this system can be described as exploitative. The
student athlete receives an athletic scholarship with the intention that student athletes
will receive a quality education for four years of athletic service. Though, the low
graduation rates among the main revenue sports show that the university does not
live up to end its end of the deal. Due to the rising tide of student athlete protests, the
NCAA instituted Prop. 48, which changed the four year athletic scholarship to a one
year renewable grant. This allowed the athletic departments and head coaches the
ability to control a misbehaving player by terminating their

God Gold And Glory Essay
God, Gold and Glory, these were the three G s that people had once given
everything up for, countless wars either to be declared as the strongest or the
richest, or maybe these wars were just to please the malevolent gods that everyone
had worshipped. The year was 1492 and people around this time were still trying to
obtain these G s in any manner physically obtainable. However it was due to

To be found guilty of first degree murder, it must be proven that killed someone with

Scott Peterson was found guilty of second degree murder for his son s death. The
prosecutors wanted two first degree murder convictions, but jurors believed that
the slaying of the unborn child, Conner, was not premeditated and deliberate. The
one first degree murder count in conjunction with the special circumstance of
multiple counts of murder, made Scott Peterson eligible for the death penalty
(CourtTV, 2008). There was only one piece of physical evidence which were two
hairs found in a pair of pliers inside Scott Peterson s fishing boat (Gudgell, 2004).
174 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence from wiretapped phone calls to
police interrogations on video, the prosecutors used this to depicted Peterson as a
liar and a philanderer who smooth talked Amber Frey, his massage therapist
girlfriend while he was publicly yearning to finding his missing wife (USAToday,
2004). The police could not established exactly when, how or where Laci Peterson
died. The evidence against Scott Peterson was mostly circumstantial. This was
enough to persuade the twelve jurors of six men and six women to convicted Scott
Peterson of first degree and second degree murder (CourtTV, 2008). In conclusion to
the Laci Peterson case, I disagree with the sentencing of Scott Peterson to death just
based on circumstantial evidence. There was
Examples Of Conformism In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s
Society
The Oregon Mental Institution and Welton Academy are the oppressive institutions,
which use a variety of methods to subdue the characters into conformity. Inside of the
institutions, there are two main oppressive forces that have power over everyone:
Nurse Ratched and Mr. Nolan. In both institutions, the oppressors use many similar
methods to subdue the characters. These methods include manipulation,
intimidation, and imposition of strict rules set by the staff. In One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest, Nurse Ratched uses manipulation and intimidation to control the
patients on the ward; therefore, allowing her to have power over all the patients.
This is evident when Nurse Ratched catches Billy sleeping with Candy Starr;
although he is able to get the confidence to stand up to Nurse Ratched, she says
what worries me Billy, is how your poor mother is going to take this, resulting in
Billy losing all his confidence to the Nurse, as she uses his mother to manipulate him
into not rebelling against her. Ultimately, she causes Billy to commit suicide because
of the way Nurse Ratched and his mother make him feel. Similarly to this example, in
Dead Poet s Society, Mr. Nolan uses Mr. Keating s students parents to subdue them
into conformity. When he speaks to the students, he often uses their parents by asking
how the boys parents would feel if they got expelled, which the boys knew would
have a negative result, forcing them to conform to the standards that the school has.

Essay On Barriers To Community Health Program
Sustainability
Sustainability can broadly be thought of as the continuation of the programs and
practices that were implemented within organizations, systems, or communities after
initial implementation efforts or funding ended (Blasinsky, 2006). Medicine is a
service oriented profession which requires professional attitudes and a sense of
empathy and caring. Medical schools recognize the merits of creating community
programs as students, and many schools have incorporated it into their curriculum
(Loh et al., 2015). In medical school, students may create or participate in various
community involvement projects that aim to serve disadvantaged communities.
However, several challenges, anticipated or unanticipated, may arise throughout the
course of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be difficult to strictly define community health programs, but the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lays out the definition of public health
programs as, any organized public health action, such as direct services, community
mobilization, research, evaluation, surveillance, policy development, laboratory
diagnostics, and communication campaigns (Schell et al, 2013). The emergence of
implementation science has driven a rapid increase in studies of how new scientific
discoveries are translated and developed into programs (Schell et at, 2013).
Unfortunately, a common focus of many community based health programs has
traditionally been program efficacy, while the long term viability has been a latent
concern (Goodman et al., 1987). In other words, there seems to be less attention to
what happens to programs after implementation, even though programs typically need
time to reach maturity to allow for fulfillment of health benefits. To benefit from the
resources invested into public health research and program development, we need to
understand factors that prevent community based health program sustainability.
So, what does a community health program need to successfully continue over time?
If we take a look at medical schools, it seems that while the original intent of creating
a program is certainly noteworthy and a first step, the outcome often dead ends.

Naval Academy Observation Report
Life at the Academy especially the first year is tough. There are days the
midshipmen will love it and other days when they hate it. Eventually I understand
that the loves out weigh the hates, however, in the beginning, during plebe year, it
may feel overwhelming to many of them. As a lot of Naval Academy graduates say
about the Naval Academy, It s a good place to be from, but not a good place to be.
Concerning that, there were some regulations that I only discovered with further
observation. For example, at all formal meals, plebes only use the front three or four
inches of their chairs, sitting at attention, with the exception of chair in the academic
buildings and plebe/Fourth Class dorms. Also when walking down corridors they can
only use the center alley and chop (quick step with high knees) with eyes in the...

Also when eating at King Hall, they must not speak unless addressed by an
upperclassman. If a plebe needs to speak, he must first extend a fist (known as
putting out the paw ) for permission to speak. Alas, for the plebes, those are only
the rules which apply in King Hall. There are also many other rules they struggle
with on the entire academy. Directly before a formal meal, during their formation
outside of Bancroft, the midshipmen must recite the menu, whether it is breakfast,
lunch or dinner. When plebes are asked, How long have you been in the Navy,
they must answer, All me blooming life, sir! Me mother was a mermaid, me father
was King Neptune. When plebes are asked, How s the cow, they must answer, Sir,
she walks, she talks, she s full of chalk. Although these myriad of disjointed
memorizations, ludicrous tasks and perpetual Panic mode as a plebe may seem to
have very little to do with the profession of arms, the sole purpose of the regulations
is to make them into better officers as a whole. In the real world, these traditions
encourage the quick execution of orders, discipline, knowledge of your environment,

New Currents Of European Cinema
New currents in European cinema began to arise in the nineteen eighties.
Globalization radically impacted the form and content of cinema much in the same
way that it reshaped politics and economics. With the formation of the European
Union, the destruction of the fracturing of the Soviet Republic, and the advent of the
internet, artistic sensibilities began to blur across country lines. This is not to say
that nations ceased to have their specific cultural relevancy within their films.
Rather, they gained the benefit of drawing upon multiple sources of inspiration that
have each had their own long histories. The redrawing of political and social
borders forced individuals to encounter old ideas for the first time, producing a
synthesis that is responsible for the modern progression of the art. French cinema in
the nineteen eighties evolved from the seeds of New Wave. These two movements
can me temporally traced as a genealogy of postmodern cinema in France. Where
New Wave was postmodern in substance, cinema du lookwas in form. Instead of
dialogue explicating an existentialism of artistic self affirmation, cinema du look
instead is practice in that theory, diving headfirst into flamboyant scenes that break
the mold of realism. The reason this came about was because of the unique political
context in France at the time. Whereas New Wave was a revitalization with a French
cinematic identity that was deteriorating, Cinema Du Look was a celebration of the
perceived completion

INTRODUCTION
A few years ago, 13 year old Tavaris Knight was convicted by a criminal court jury
in Tampa, Florida, of kidnapping and raping a 43 year old woman. Prosecutors
proved that Knight, who was 12 at the time of the offense, had used a silver toy
gun to force the woman away from her four young children at a playground and
into the surrounding woods. Knight raped the woman twice and beat her with the
gun, which he left behind.2 Knight s case had been transferred to adult criminal
court because of the serious nature of his crimes. In closing arguments, prosecutor
Michael Sinacore pointed to Knight, saying, That young man is not a child. He
stopped being a child when he forced [his victim] into the woods and raped her. 3
Following conviction, Knight was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Florida
Circuit Judge Jack Espinosa, Jr. Knight will likely be held at a youth facility for
sexual offenders until he is 21, at which time he could be transferred to another youth
offender facility until the age of 25, followed by adult prison.4 Crimes committed by
preteens are not that unusual. In 2005, for example, a nine yearold girl,

thousands of miles apart. I believe that both movies sharing similarities and
differences can be discussed in three ways being: police corruption and
misconduct, morals and the third category is education value. I will first start with
the time period of the 1970 s movie Serpico; a New York police officer transfers to
another precinct to work as an undercover police officer. Serpico witnesses his
colleges accepting bribes, collecting for their division, committing violence, and
refusing to take emergency calls, drawing their guns then shooting at individuals

Serpico was honest and showed integrity. It took guts for him to stand his ground

both detectives have in common is that they didn t sign up for the corruption they

Akhenaten Sun God Analysis
The Author s (Akhenaten, the sun God) purpose was that Akhenaten wanted
everyone to only believe and worship one god. He wanted everyone to trust in only
one God, and that God of course, was Aten the sun god. The story of Aten was that
he wanted to change everyone s beliefs into the same as his own.The people of
Egypt was forced to change from a polytheistic religion, the worship of many gods.
He believed that all good things are connected to the sun, in which is said to create
life and well being. He achieved the purpose by changing people s beliefs but soon
after he died, his ideas were abandoned and and people moved back to their original
city. Even though Akhenatens son tried to keep the religion going.

Akhenaten sees the sun as his one and only god and for example Christians they
see God as their one and only god. Aten is the sun god and Akhenaten walks the
reader through his belief of what his god does. The short story is trying to persuade
the readers to worship Aten and become monotheistic (which means to worship only
one God, similar to Christianity). The poem is trying to persuade the readers to pick
a certain God they want to follow. So in comparison between the short story and
poem is to only worship one God.
This Hymn could take place at any point in time because Aten is everlasting. Even if
there was a great revelation happening, Akhenaten would attribute it to Aten.
However, the setting would change the entire tone of the hymn. This hymn deals
with things that are new and glorious, but if one were to change the setting to a
revelation, it would deal with death and destruction. The only major difference
between the story and the poem is that in Rebellion you are free to choose what god
you would want to follow, but in the story Akhenaten forces his people to give up
other gods in order to only worship

I Had Never Spent Much Time Evaluating My Values

I had never spent much time evaluating my values system before taking on this
assignment. I believed that I was wired to think the way I do, and that nothing in
particular had to be the cause for my feelings on certain things. By writing this
paper and learning about values, I was able to take a hard look at myself and
figure out what my personal values stem from. My values relating to the key
issues of women s reproduction, poverty/money, health care in America, and
minority groups have blossomed out of personal experiences and experiences I
have heard about from those close to me. I also found several themes that underlie
why I have the values that I do, and why I think about these topics in the way that I
do. Women s reproduction is the most important of the topics to me, because when
it comes to women s reproduction I look at the subject from two points of view.
The first point of view I see is the main reason the topic is discussed, which is the
sexual/reproductive side. The other point I see is my own personal experience, which
has nothing to do with reproduction but concerns health. My core values relative to
this area are dignity and worth of a personand social justice. I chose these two
because I think every woman should be able to access forms of birth control and
abortionwithout being criticized. Not being able to do that, in my view, is
discrimination. I think the woman who is choosing these actions is of enough worth
to be able to make the right decision for

Fame and glory have been the most admirable characteristics in the middle Ages and

are stories of heroism and immortality gained through fame. The aim of the main
characters, Beowulf and Gilgamesh, is to be a good warrior by being courageous,

Huwawa s home and therefore also himself is described. This image of Huwawa

he must die to let civilization win. The wood of the Cedar Forest that is used for

Capital Punishment Essay
CAPITAL PUNISMENT IMMORAL OR NOT
As a minority of US bishops once said, We cannot teach that killing is wrong by
killing.
The Catholic Church has spoken out repeatedly and passionately about the need to
protect human life of every stage of existence. All issues and matters relating to the
dignity and worth of human life fall with the realm of the fifth commandment, You
shall not kill. The Catholic Church consistently communicates the importance of
human life.
As the late pope John Paul II once stated, May the death penalty, an unworthy

In today s society Capital punishment is being heavily contemplated for particular
actions around the world. As I speak, Shapelle Corby recognized for drug
smuggling faces her toughest hour as she waits for her verdict. One of the
consequences for her actions if she is found guilty encompasses the use of the Death
penalty. To a striking degree many people consider the action of the death penalty for
drug smuggling to be quite ruthless. Although this is the case, Indonesian Law takes
very highly to any illegal action, weather it be from something as little as stealing a
Cd to mass murder. No matter the feat, the Indonesian government treat the severity
of each crime as a near equal consequence.
Capital Punishment serves no moral purpose; in fact, it undermines respect for
human life. It contributes to the cycle of violence. It is a barbaric remnant of an
uncivilized society. It is immoral in principle, and unfair and discriminatory in
practice. As a remedy for crime, it has no purpose and no effect.
The Christian and Catholic response to capital punishment is clear and
Alan Paton Literary Devices
In this fictional novel, written by Alan Paton, the author gives light to many different
social issues including apartheid, prostitution, alcoholism, and many more. Through
these social issues, Paton idolizes many characters throughout this narrative due to
their behavior and actions taken during these matters. Beyond conventional issues,
this book poses its own issues, some in accordance with the national issues, and some
not. Through Paton s use of expressive diction, graphic imagery, and examples of
Arthur s writings, he constructs a shared attribute of persistent ambition among the

what makes his murder so ironic killed by those who he stood for (the natives).
Despite his death, it symbolizes his determination through all the adversity he may
have faced. In chapter twelve, Paton gives short statements from Europeans
discussing ways to cut back on native crime. This also highlights Arthur Jarvis
perseverance. Many Europeans feel that increased schooling facilities would cause a
decrease in juvenile delinquency amongst native children (Paton 107). Others believe
that they should enforce the pass laws (Paton 108). But, the one European individual
that supported the beliefs and actions of the natives the most, is the one that suffered.

institution of the third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the
Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation of 1829. With the loss of so many people,
religion became a large part of the community. Such a devastating event left the Irish
vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful nation could
easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the
mid to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living.
The Catholic Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern
regions of Ireland, grew in popularity and even united small rural towns. This action
rebuilt trust in communities and aided the most devastated of areas. The major
Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be among the
Phonemic Awareness Observation
During my observation on October 5, 2017 from eight to eleven in the morning, I
observed Mrs. Mizenko s teaching of phonemic and phonological awareness. She
initially began with word awareness by having the children read off fluency
phrases, such as the little boy, work on it, then you come, and old and new, from
the screen having them notice the spaces between each word. Following her focus
on word awareness, Mrs. Mizenko proceeded to have the children focus on
phonemic awareness by having her students say words such as red and rice and
asking them to isolate the initial phoneme in the words. She also had her students
say words such as cat and beg and had them isolate the final phoneme in each word.
Upon finishing with her practice of phonemic awareness, she began shifting to the
blending of syllables and onsets and rimes. She taught this by saying the two
syllables of a word like furnace and grandma, and she had the students blend the
syllables as a complete word. Immediately following her teaching of blending
syllables and onsets and rimes, Mrs. Mizenko had the... Show more content on

I also noticed that the children were quicker to respond to the activities that required
a lower level of thinking such as phoneme isolation and matching when compared to
their slower responses to the questions that required a higher lever such as phoneme
manipulation and phoneme blending; the children were also able to answer the lower
level questions with more accuracy because they had completely grasped those
concepts whereas the upper level questions because they are new concepts to them
and must be taught
Effects Of Feudalism In Medieval Europe
Feudalism was the form of government in medieval Europe during the Middle
Ages. The system of feudalism lasted for as long as it did because everybody had a
role to keep the system functioning. The peasants and serfs made goods and worked
the farms, the knights protected everyone, the lords and ladies gave land to
peasants, serf, and knights, and the monarch ruled the area, telling everybody what
to do. This way of life worked because it kept everybody doing the things they had to
do. If they didn t follow their duties and responsibilities, they were punished with
anything from being put in the stocks, getting whipped, or even as extreme as being
executed. The decline of feudalismwas caused by three main factors, political changes
in Englandcaused by the Magna Cartaand the Model Parliament, the bubonic plague,
and the Hundred Years War.
Political changes in England contributed to the decline of feudalism because of
Model Parliament and the Magna Carta. The Model parliament was a governing
body created by King Edward I that included nobles, church officials, and
commoners. It allowed common people such as peasants and serfs to serve and
have a say in the government, alongside nobles, church officials, and monarchs. The
idea of letting people in lower social classes be apart of the government was the
basis of the development of modern democratic institution. The Magna Carta was a
written legal agreement signed by King John in England that limited a monarch s
power. The
Female Athletes As Role Models For The Sports Industry
Female athletes do not get paid as much as they deserve for the work they execute
for the sports industry. Female athletes do so much for the sports industry that is not
appreciated. They are good role models for adolescent girls to be confident in
themselves and to get involved in sports and activities outside or at school. Female
athletes also produce profit for the industry as well as earn money from endorsements
just as maleathletes do. Although people may state that female athletes lack in
many different factors, female athletes are good role models for their young
viewers, they are the driving force that generates most of the revenue for the teams
federation, and they portray the equal amount of work that the male athletes do
and therefore, should receive the same payment. Peer pressure and self esteem are
two things girls are struggling with in today s day and age, but female athletes
encourage girls to get involved in sports in order to clear up some stresses they
might be having. Female athletes promote confidence and strength which helps
adolescent girls understand that these things are key to being a successful person
in life. Experts state that by the age of 12, girls are 6 times more likely to drop out
of playing sports than boys because girls do not receive as many positive
reinforcements about their sports participation as boys. Female athletes can improve
and change the behavior of the girls so that they will have confidence and feel like
they want to
The Andromeda Galaxy
The Andromeda Galaxy was named after a mythological Princess named
Andromeda. And it contains approximately one trillion stars and twice more of the
Milky Way s. And is estimated by about 200 400 billion stars. Also this subject is
interesting to me because it shows all the different stars that are connected to each
other and I think that it cool how the color are mix together. And the Andromeda
galaxy, is spanning approximately about 220,000 light years and it is the largest
galaxy that is in our Local Group.
Next what did Edwin Hubble find. He found a place where Andromeda Nebula that
is far outside of our star system at a distance of 450,000 parsecs. And he made a
settlement when he identified extragalactic the Cepheid variable
Essay On Indentured Servitude
During the seventeenth century, the growth of tobacco, rice and indigo crops created
a high demand for land as well as manual labor; two problems thought to be solved by
the introduction of indentured servitude. Throughout the seventeenth century, the
majority of Europeans coming to the America s were Indentured Servants. Incentives
were high for both employers and servants and this type of contract slave labor
quickly became the method of choice for plantation owners. Increasing manual labor
and land was critical to the colonies economic success, however time would
eventually uncover the problems indentured servitude would create for the colonies,
the land and ultimately farmers would prefer traditional slave labor to indentured
servants.
Becoming Indentured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contract owners provided housing, food, clothing and at the end of the contract,
freedom dues , a prearranged termination bonus (ushistory.org, 2016). Although
indentured servitude shared many similarities with traditional enslavement,
indentured servants ultimately gained freedom while enslaved people were denied
freedom unless they escaped or obtained the means to purchase themselves (Low
Country Digital Library, 2016). Under the Headright System , contract owners in
Virginia and Maryland were rewarded with 50 acres of land for each servant brought
across the Atlantic and was typically used by wealthy plantation owners to
dramatically increase their land holdings (ushistory.org, 2016). With incentives for
both the indentured and the servant owners, the contracts appeared on the surface to
be beneficial for all parties involved, however time would show the reality of this
form of slavery carried with it a whole new set of
My Grandma Of The Old Folks Home
In 2011, I went to visit my grandma Camille in the old folks home. At that time she
was 82, and I was 17, and I was about to enter into my senior year of high school.
This was the last time I ever saw her. She had been living there for about a year and
a half, and I had been to see her a lot. But it was becoming a bit sadder with each
visit, partially because the place was full of people who were near the last stages
of their life. Even worse, with each visit I saw that my grandma health was in
decline and I didn t know how the handle that. When I saw her on this day, she was
very excited because they was having a gathering in the dining hall to celebrate the
4th of July. They were going the have ice cream along with some music. While I
was not very excited to tag along with Grandma to a 4th of July celebration when it
was not really the 4th, I knew she didn t want the miss the event so I said, Let s go!
My grandmother and I rolled over, and she introduced me to everyone as we
passed by saying, This is my granddaughter, and she going to be a senior in high
school next year. They all responded, Nice to meet you and That s nice. When all
the introductions had ended and we waited for the festivities to begin, I became one
of them. It was an uncomfortable situation at first and I remember thinking to myself
What did I get myself into? But as the party kick off into full gear with some people
dancing and others taking full advantage of the
Causes And Effects Of Crack Cocaine
Crack Cocaine Crack Cocaine is the crystal form of cocaine, which normally comes
in a powder form. It comes in solid blocks or crystals varying in color from yellow to
pale rose or white. A popular way to do crack cocaine is to heat and smoke it,
others may inject it in rare cases. Crack got its name because it makes a crackling
or popping sound when heated. Some street names for crack are; butter, flavor
flavor, 24 7, apple jacks, electric kool aid, snow coke, nuggets, crunch and munch,
badrock, scrabble, and freebase cocaine. Crack cocaine s chemical makeup is C17
H21 NO4. The biggest place crack cocaine effects is the brain. Once the user
inhales the vapor into his or her lungs the drug is taken into the user s bloodstream.
When it gets into the bloodstream crack acts upon a part of the brain called the
Ventral Tegmental Area. In the bloodstream Crack interferes with dopamine, which
is released by cells when engaging in pleasurable activities. After the dopamine is
released it travels across the synapse, and binds to a neuron. Binding to the neuron
sends a signal to that nerve cell, which sends a signal of good feeling. During the
normal dopamine process, once the dopamine sends the signal, the signal is absorbed
by the neuron and then releases it. Crack interrupts the cycle because it attaches to
the dopamine transporter, which prevents the normal reabsorption process. Since
dopamine is not able to be absorbed, it builds up in the synapse and continues to
create a

Rip Van Winkle Essay. PPT - Rip Van Winkle PowerPoint Presentation - ID:251815

  • 1. Rip Van Winkle Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Rip Van Winkle" presents both intriguing opportunities and challenges. On one hand, Washington Irving's classic tale offers rich material for analysis, allowing for exploration of themes such as time, change, and the consequences of inaction. On the other hand, the story's nuanced narrative and layers of meaning require careful examination to extract the depth embedded within. Beginning with an understanding of Rip Van Winkle's character and the historical context in which the story is set is crucial. Analyzing the protagonist's journey through time, the societal transformations depicted, and the allegorical elements woven into the narrative demands a comprehensive grasp of the text. This process requires meticulous attention to detail and a discerning eye for subtleties, as Irving's writing often conceals profound insights beneath its seemingly straightforward surface. Developing a coherent thesis that encapsulates the essence of the essay and guides the analysis is another challenging aspect. It necessitates the ability to synthesize the various components of the story into a unified argument that sheds light on the overarching themes and messages. Furthermore, maintaining a balance between summary and interpretation is key to ensuring the essay's clarity and persuasiveness. Moreover, the essay should strive to offer a fresh perspective or contribute to the existing discourse on "Rip Van Winkle." This requires not only a comprehensive understanding of the existing scholarship on the topic but also the ability to present original insights that engage the reader and add value to the discourse. While the challenges of writing an essay on "Rip Van Winkle" may seem daunting, they also present an opportunity for intellectual exploration and critical thinking. The process of unraveling the layers of meaning within Irving's work can be immensely rewarding for those willing to invest the time and effort required. In interdependent relationships, it is inevitable that partners will sometimes behave in a manner potentially destructive to the relationship. When faced with dissatisfactory behaviours, the other partner has a choice: to respond in kind or to accommodate. Accommodation refers to responding to a partner s destructive act by inhibiting the impulse to reciprocate with another destructive act, and instead behaving in a constructive manner. Caryl Rusbult and her colleagues (1991) first identified accommodation as an important part of a relationship. They defined accommodation in terms of the typology of responses to dissatisfaction in relationships, which can vary along two dimensions: whether responses are constructive or destructive to the relationship, and whether responses actively or passively address the problem at hand. Within these two dimensions there are four categories of response: exit involves actively harming a relationship (e.g.,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, sexually explicit messages and photos can be sent through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and over various electronic devices, such as tablets. Although sexting between consenting adults is considered an acceptable activity, both adults and teenagers are using electronic devices and social media outlets to engage in inappropriate sexual activities (Matte, 2013). These sexts are often shown to or forwarded to friends and acquaintances. Sometimes, the explicit photos contained in the texts are uploaded on social media websites such as Facebook and Instagram or sent through email (Stone, 2009). Adults can easily access sexts shared with friends and posted online. Since taking, possessing, and posting sexually explicit photographs of teenagers under the age of 18 is a form of child pornography, teen sexting should be illegal (Matte, 2013). Frequently, teenage girls under the age of 18 date older males. Although teenage boys under the age of 18 sometimes date adult females, this relationship is not as common as the aforementioned relationship. According to Matte (2013), 51% of teen girls cite pressure from guys as a reason to send explicit messages, while only 18% of boys say so. This is of concern when there is already a power imbalance in a relationship or an issue with self esteem (p.1). Young teenage girls may feel obligated to engage in explicit sexual behavior in order to appear more mature to their older boyfriends. Girls in such relationships must be aware of the potential legal risks of sexting with adult males (Matte, 2013). In some relationships, the male and female in the relationship have been less than a year apart in age (Matte, 2013). Regardless of the age difference, any adult male in possession of a sexually explicit photo of a minor can be

The prosecutors wanted two first degree murder convictions, but jurors believed that the slaying of the unborn child, Conner, was not premeditated and deliberate. The one first degree murder count in conjunction with the special circumstance of multiple counts of murder, made Scott Peterson eligible for the death penalty (CourtTV, 2008). There was only one piece of physical evidence which were two hairs found in a pair of pliers inside Scott Peterson s fishing boat (Gudgell, 2004). 174 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence from wiretapped phone calls to police interrogations on video, the prosecutors used this to depicted Peterson as a liar and a philanderer who smooth talked Amber Frey, his massage therapist girlfriend while he was publicly yearning to finding his missing wife (USAToday, 2004). The police could not established exactly when, how or where Laci Peterson died. The evidence against Scott Peterson was mostly circumstantial. This was enough to persuade the twelve jurors of six men and six women to convicted Scott Peterson of first degree and second degree murder (CourtTV, 2008). In conclusion to the Laci Peterson case, I disagree with the sentencing of Scott Peterson to death just based on circumstantial evidence. There was
  • 23. Examples Of Conformism In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Society The Oregon Mental Institution and Welton Academy are the oppressive institutions, which use a variety of methods to subdue the characters into conformity. Inside of the institutions, there are two main oppressive forces that have power over everyone: Nurse Ratched and Mr. Nolan. In both institutions, the oppressors use many similar methods to subdue the characters. These methods include manipulation, intimidation, and imposition of strict rules set by the staff. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Nurse Ratched uses manipulation and intimidation to control the patients on the ward; therefore, allowing her to have power over all the patients. This is evident when Nurse Ratched catches Billy sleeping with Candy Starr; although he is able to get the confidence to stand up to Nurse Ratched, she says what worries me Billy, is how your poor mother is going to take this, resulting in Billy losing all his confidence to the Nurse, as she uses his mother to manipulate him into not rebelling against her. Ultimately, she causes Billy to commit suicide because of the way Nurse Ratched and his mother make him feel. Similarly to this example, in Dead Poet s Society, Mr. Nolan uses Mr. Keating s students parents to subdue them into conformity. When he speaks to the students, he often uses their parents by asking how the boys parents would feel if they got expelled, which the boys knew would have a negative result, forcing them to conform to the standards that the school has.

  • 25. Essay On Barriers To Community Health Program Sustainability Sustainability can broadly be thought of as the continuation of the programs and practices that were implemented within organizations, systems, or communities after initial implementation efforts or funding ended (Blasinsky, 2006). Medicine is a service oriented profession which requires professional attitudes and a sense of empathy and caring. Medical schools recognize the merits of creating community programs as students, and many schools have incorporated it into their curriculum (Loh et al., 2015). In medical school, students may create or participate in various community involvement projects that aim to serve disadvantaged communities. It can be difficult to strictly define community health programs, but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lays out the definition of public health programs as, any organized public health action, such as direct services, community mobilization, research, evaluation, surveillance, policy development, laboratory diagnostics, and communication campaigns (Schell et al, 2013). The emergence of implementation science has driven a rapid increase in studies of how new scientific discoveries are translated and developed into programs (Schell et at, 2013). Unfortunately, a common focus of many community based health programs has traditionally been program efficacy, while the long term viability has been a latent concern (Goodman et al., 1987). In other words, there seems to be less attention to what happens to programs after implementation, even though programs typically need time to reach maturity to allow for fulfillment of health benefits. To benefit from the resources invested into public health research and program development, we need to understand factors that prevent community based health program sustainability. So, what does a community health program need to successfully continue over time? If we take a look at medical schools, it seems that while the original intent of creating a program is certainly noteworthy and a first step, the outcome often dead ends. Ferrari suggests that students often

Eventually I understand that the loves out weigh the hates, however, in the beginning, during plebe year, it may feel overwhelming to many of them. As a lot of Naval Academy graduates say about the Naval Academy, It s a good place to be from, but not a good place to be. Concerning that, there were some regulations that I only discovered with further observation. For example, at all formal meals, plebes only use the front three or four inches of their chairs, sitting at attention, with the exception of chair in the academic buildings and plebe/Fourth Class dorms. If a plebe needs to speak, he must first extend a fist (known as putting out the paw ) for permission to speak. Alas, for the plebes, those are only the rules which apply in King Hall. There are also many other rules they struggle with on the entire academy. Directly before a formal meal, during their formation outside of Bancroft, the midshipmen must recite the menu, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. When plebes are asked, How long have you been in the Navy, they must answer, All me blooming life, sir! Me mother was a mermaid, me father was King Neptune. When plebes are asked, How s the cow, they must answer, Sir, she walks, she talks, she s full of chalk. Globalization radically impacted the form and content of cinema much in the same way that it reshaped politics and economics. With the formation of the European Union, the destruction of the fracturing of the Soviet Republic, and the advent of the internet, artistic sensibilities began to blur across country lines. This is not to say that nations ceased to have their specific cultural relevancy within their films. Rather, they gained the benefit of drawing upon multiple sources of inspiration that have each had their own long histories. The redrawing of political and social borders forced individuals to encounter old ideas for the first time, producing a synthesis that is responsible for the modern progression of the art. French cinema in the nineteen eighties evolved from the seeds of New Wave. These two movements can me temporally traced as a genealogy of postmodern cinema in France. Where New Wave was postmodern in substance, cinema du lookwas in form. Instead of dialogue explicating an existentialism of artistic self affirmation, cinema du look instead is practice in that theory, diving headfirst into flamboyant scenes that break the mold of realism. The reason this came about was because of the unique political context in France at the time. Whereas New Wave was a revitalization with a French cinematic identity that was deteriorating, Cinema Du Look was a celebration of the perceived completion

The poem is trying to persuade the readers to pick a certain God they want to follow. So in comparison between the short story and poem is to only worship one God. This Hymn could take place at any point in time because Aten is everlasting. Even if there was a great revelation happening, Akhenaten would attribute it to Aten. However, the setting would change the entire tone of the hymn. This hymn deals with things that are new and glorious, but if one were to change the setting to a revelation, it would deal with death and destruction. I believed that I was wired to think the way I do, and that nothing in particular had to be the cause for my feelings on certain things. By writing this paper and learning about values, I was able to take a hard look at myself and figure out what my personal values stem from. My values relating to the key issues of women s reproduction, poverty/money, health care in America, and minority groups have blossomed out of personal experiences and experiences I have heard about from those close to me. I also found several themes that underlie why I have the values that I do, and why I think about these topics in the way that I do. Women s reproduction is the most important of the topics to me, because when it comes to women s reproduction I look at the subject from two points of view. The first point of view I see is the main reason the topic is discussed, which is the sexual/reproductive side. The other point I see is my own personal experience, which has nothing to do with reproduction but concerns health. My core values relative to this area are dignity and worth of a personand social justice. I chose these two because I think every woman should be able to access forms of birth control and abortionwithout being criticized. Not being able to do that, in my view, is discrimination. I think the woman who is choosing these actions is of enough worth to be able to make the right decision for

The system of feudalism lasted for as long as it did because everybody had a role to keep the system functioning. The peasants and serfs made goods and worked the farms, the knights protected everyone, the lords and ladies gave land to peasants, serf, and knights, and the monarch ruled the area, telling everybody what to do. This way of life worked because it kept everybody doing the things they had to do. If they didn t follow their duties and responsibilities, they were punished with anything from being put in the stocks, getting whipped, or even as extreme as being executed. The decline of feudalismwas caused by three main factors, political changes in Englandcaused by the Magna Cartaand the Model Parliament, the bubonic plague, and the Hundred Years War. Political changes in England contributed to the decline of feudalism because of Model Parliament and the Magna Carta. The Model parliament was a governing body created by King Edward I that included nobles, church officials, and commoners. It allowed common people such as peasants and serfs to serve and have a say in the government, alongside nobles, church officials, and monarchs. Once the user inhales the vapor into his or her lungs the drug is taken into the user s bloodstream. When it gets into the bloodstream crack acts upon a part of the brain called the Ventral Tegmental Area. In the bloodstream Crack interferes with dopamine, which is released by cells when engaging in pleasurable activities. After the dopamine is released it travels across the synapse, and binds to a neuron. Binding to the neuron sends a signal to that nerve cell, which sends a signal of good feeling. During the normal dopamine process, once the dopamine sends the signal, the signal is absorbed by the neuron and then releases it. Crack interrupts the cycle because it attaches to the dopamine transporter, which prevents the normal reabsorption process. Since dopamine is not able to be absorbed, it builds up in the synapse and continues to create a
