I have chosen this front cover from VIBE magazine to compare my front cover to as they both have similar aspects. The
colour palette is kept to a minimum so the features of the magazine are brought forward and the mastheads of both
magazine are slightly behind the artists head. By doing this it hides the name of the magazine but gives the impression
people will already know the name because it’s so popular. The rule of thirds is also used in both magazines as the four
points would draw attention to the artist and the captions next to them.

I have chosen a contents page from VIBE magazine to compare my contents page to as they have similar
attributes. In both pages the images on the page contrast with the backgrounds so the artists are noticed
more. The actual contents are also placed in the same way (on the left hand side) as this gives it a neater
perspective and makes it easier for the read to know which page to go to for what information. The magic C
is used in my magazine because the text forms a C shape and this is a format used by magazines

5. 2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
My magazine is aimed at social groups such as mainstream, hip hop, drum and bass
dance audiences. The age can range from 16-24 as it’s for dance and club beat
fanatics however the magazine is more of a formal music magazine such as
‘Billboard’ as it’s in more of a formal layout.
It’s aimed at this age range and social group
because it keeps them involved in the most
recent dancers and dance music and also what’s
going in the life of the artists they listen to.
