1. 2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
The female is giving off the impression of having
attitude as she has one hand on her hip and is
squinting at the audience with a straight face.
This can represent young Asians girls in a
negative light.
These 3 are all smiling and looking at the
camera however the way they’re standing These two boys who are dancers on
is not a confident pose. The boy is wearing the contents page look
shades which is considered ‘cool’ and he disinterested and aren’t looking at
is pointing directly at the audience which the camera but seem to be engaged
draws attention to him. This can represent in their own conversation, this
this Asian group as cocky and laidback represents them negatively like
which can be seen in a negative or they are too good to be posing for
positive way. cameras.
2. 2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
Because my magazine is mostly full of Asian artists the publishing I would like it done by is an Asian publishing company known as BLU
INC which is a subsidiary of SPH magazines. This creates a niche target audience for me so the marketing I am creating will be aimed at
Asians mostly girls/women aged 16-24.
These are examples of
magazines both music and
general published by this
company. All the artists in
these magazine covers also
give the impressing of attitude
as none of them are fully
smiling and have their hand on
hips or are staring directly at
the camera (with sunglasses).
3. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
Bauer Media and IPC Media would both be appropriate for my magazine as
IPC Media does magazines such as NME and Bauer Media has more radio
music magazines such as Kerrang therefore I would prefer IPC Media as
the genre to my music magazine fits in more with IPC Media whereas Bauer
have a less mainstream audiences so anyone who invests in Bauer media
wouldn’t be looking for my kind of magazine yet IPC Media target audiences
would.
Also because IPC has more of a formal theme than Bauer this helps to bring
my magazine forward plus the fact that there’s no magazines aimed at my
age group meaning I would make a better profit as my magazine would be
the only one aimed at younger audiences.
4. 4. Who would the audience be for your media
product?
The typical profile for my target audience would be either a male or female
teenage or young adult. However the magazine may be bought by more
females and sway towards teenage and younger females as they tend to be
interested in music magazines the most.
The reader will be someone who is outgoing and be out clubbing quite a lot or
very into their dance and celebrity catch ups, they listen to upbeat music
that makes you want to get up and dance and love to just go with the beat of
their music and doesn’t really like slow depressing songs.
This person would have a great dress sense and wouldn’t like to step out the
house not feeling good about themselves and go all out when they go on a
night out, they are very sociable and spend weekends partying.
