For my media product, a music magazine focused on electronic dance music (EDM), I both challenged conventions of real magazines and developed conventions:
- On the front cover, I challenged conventions by placing cover lines in a non-formulaic way to match the random tempo of EDM beats, but developed conventions using the "Z technique" and "rule of thirds".
- The contents page adhered to conventions for an easy structure, while linking colors and fonts to the front cover for consistency.
- A double page spread developed conventions like a pulled quote to excite readers, while conforming to conventions like well-written reviews using creative techniques. The choice of a review over interview also developed conventions for the target 18

1) The student learned the importance of in-depth audience research and feedback when developing their music magazine from their preliminary task to the final project.
2) They learned about properly capturing the tone and style of the magazine through the photo shoot, like ensuring the models' clothing matched the genre.
3) Planning and drafting was more important for the final project, including a complete contents page that engaged readers through additional details and features typically found in magazines.

Clash Magazine's front cover features Rita Ora portrayed as a royal figure to intrigue readers and prompt them to read the magazine's main interview with her. The cover uses imagery to tease what questions were asked in the interview and draw the audience in to learn more. Clash Magazine aims to attract readers by presenting intriguing images and questions on the front cover to promote featured articles and interviews inside.

My media product follows several conventions of real music magazines:
1. The front cover includes a masthead, cover lines, barcode, main image, and plug like NME.
2. The contents page includes titles, page numbers, quotations, images, and is color coded and organized like NME.
3. The double page spread features a large main image on one side and text wrapping around it like in NME.
However, it also challenges some conventions by having left-aligned cover lines instead of the backwards Z, adding a QR code and subscribe box, and not filling the entire double page with a single large image.
