The document discusses best practices for collaboration between museums and Wikipedia. It outlines challenges such as copyright issues and concerns about quality and control. However, it emphasizes that partnerships between experts and volunteers can exponentially increase quality information. Specific successful collaborations are highlighted, like Wikipedians-in-residence and editing contests. Museums are encouraged to engage students and share content under Creative Commons to overcome challenges and spread knowledge.

Joining forces with Wikipedia reasons, experiences and impact - Sharing is Ca...Olaf Janssen
In this talk Olaf Janssen explains how and why joining forces with Wikipedia fits in the bigger open data strategies of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek. Starting from a brief historic overview of its Wikipedian-in-Residence project in 2013-14, he not only explains how the KB has been collaborating with Wikipedia and its volunteer community over the last couple of years, but also which positive impacts it has had for the exposure, distribution and reuse of KB's collections.

This is a two-part presentation made at the Museum & Gallery Services (Queensland) Networking event in December 2009. The first part outlines the rationale for the Queensland Museum contributing a small selection of high quality, copyright free social history photographs to Wikimedia as a first step towards developing a digitisation strategy. This is the first contribution made to Wikimedia by any Australian cultural heritage organisation with many mutual benefits arising. The second part demonstrates the use of NING as a social media platform for museum professionals to engage with and to share ideas.

FryskLab - Education, innovation and maker culture in the libraryFers
FryskLab is an initiative of Library Service Friesland (Bibliotheekservice Fryslân, BSF) and the Frisian public library network. Friesland is a rural province in the northern part of the Netherlands and FryskLab, operating from a truck formerly used as a bookmobile, is Europe’s first official library FabLab, or “fabrication laboratory”. Its varied team consists of IT specialists, arts management professionals and librarians, and its goal is to examine the extent to which this mobile FabLab initiative contributes to the development of creative, technical and entrepreneurial skills of children and young adults. The project is ultimately expected to result in an increase of the innovative capacities of the entire province of Friesland.
Officially launched in 2014, FryskLab has so far received a number of awards, including the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2017 Presidential Citations for Innovative International Library Projects award. Making knowledge and sharing the future, the motto of the FryskLab project, reinforces the role of libraries in facilitating access to various “tools of knowledge” (equipment and technology) and providing support in the form of various educational and training programmes, effectively bringing together physical and digital, traditional and modern means of acquiring knowledge.

Europeana at Ten: insights from our first decadeDouglas McCarthy
Presentation to Open GLAM México, 6 September 2018, Mexico City. This event linked numerous institutions to encourage dialogue around the Open GLAM movement and was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, the National Institute of Fine Arts, the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico and Wikimedia México.
The aims of Open GLAM México were:
• Socialise good practices and policies generated by GLAM institutions to distribute data and digital objects, in national and international context.
• Promote the opening of digital collections in public and private institutions in Mexico.
• Establish an open dialogue on copyright issues focused on the use, reuse and appropriation of digital collections of cultural heritage.
Sam Donvil of PACKED vzw Center for Digital Heritage zooms in on the perspective of the citizen who wants to access, engage with and use out-of-copyright publicly funded cultural heritage, but also that of the heritage institution, which can share and enrich its knowledge about their collections by publishing their data as linked open data. This requires a fundamental change in how a heritage institution sees its role in society and the way it provides services towards its audience. The Wikimedia ecosystem (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons) provides a good environment in which cultural heritage institutions can experiment with redefining themselves as truly open institutions. Public Domain Day provides a low-threshold context for institutions to start small and donate data and images of artists that died 70 years ago and therefore entered the public domain.

The Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap projects are an existing free software infrastructure that already produces citizen science and can be used by researchers to share and co-produce data and to produce - and reproduce - the results of research. The presentation specifically refers to the potential of data related to cultural heritage for studies in the humanities and in particular in museology, art, art history and history of architecture.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
