classrooms, banquet facility, library, etc.

• CAC recommended inclusion of a $7 million
Community Center on bond package

  • 5. 1995 Bond Election • $433,000 approved for land purchase for public facilities • 12 acres of land near police and public service facilities
  • 6. 1998 Bond Election • $1,560,000 for land purchase for future municipal office center
  • 7. 1999 City Center Planning Ad Hoc Committee • Worked with Brinkley-Sargent Consulting Firm to develop conceptual plan for location of City Center • Additional sites considered • New-urbanism- mix of public and private offices, retail businesses, cultural facilities, and outdoor recreation • City Center to act as “downtown” with City Hall as anchor • Krenek Tap site selected

  • 13. 2007 Senior Center Conceptual Design • Brown Reynolds Watford (BRW) hired to create a conceptual design for a senior center • 30,000 SF facility costing $7.05 million • Facility to include conference room, kitchen, aquatic center, exercise facility, locker rooms, classrooms, banquet facility, library, etc. • To be located on Dartmouth and Krenek Tap
  • 14. 2008 Citizen Advisory Committee & Bond Election • Senior Center morphed into community center • CAC recommended inclusion of a $7 million Community Center on bond package • CAC recommended inclusion of a 69,568 SF City Hall costing $37 million on bond package ($26 million in debt, $11 million other funding sources) • Both items failed
