There is a lot of talk now around the term Service Mesh. The hype is high and the promise is real. The problem is that there is not really a good definition of what service mesh really is. In this talk we are going to review the problem service meshes are trying to solve, name the core components that make up a service mesh, and discuss the benefits an organization can receive by implementing this new technology.

Complex Analytics with NoSQL Data Store in Real TimeNati Shalom
NOSQL are often limited in the type of queries that they can support due to the distributed nature of the data. In this session we would learn patterns on how we can overcome this limitation and combine multiple query semantics with NoSQL based engines.
We will demonstrate specifically a combination of key/value, SQL like, Document model and Graph based queries as well as more advanced topic such as handling partial update and query through projection. We will also demonstrate how we can create a meshaup between those API's i.e. write fast through Key/Value API and execute complex queries on that same data through SQL query.

Everyone building or operating cloud native applications must understand the fundamentals of security issues and modern threat models. Although this topic is vast, in this talk Nic and Daniel will focus on the end-to-end communication and higher-level networking threats, and explore how the combination of an edge proxy and service mesh using TLS and mTLS can be used to mitigate many man-in-the-middle attacks.
Key takeaways include: understand the "three pillars" of service mesh functionality - observability, reliability, and security; a service mesh is in a unique place to enforce security features like mTLS; learn how to ensure that there are no exploitable "gaps" within the end-to-end/user-to-service communication path, explore the differences in ingress/mesh control planes, with brief demonstrations using Ambassador and Consul Connect.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
