The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

page and it can reflect the audience it caters for
• Image- this image should reflect the audience and also the style of the
magazine. The main image is usually a mid-shot and should reflect on what the
film featured is about. This usually involves the main actor from the film
featured
• Buzz words- these involve ‘free’ and ‘exclusive’ which capture the readers
attention and make them want to buy the magazine
• Anchorage text- the text that often overlaps the image to tell what the story
inside will involve, this could be a quote taken from the interview inside
• Banner- gives overall information about the magazine and what will be found
inside
• Barcode, date, issue number- something every magazine has and is needed

• The banner reads amazing 2013 superhero preview, this shows what year the film
was released and shows the audience that information about the film will be
hidden inside and the illustrators have used the word amazing to entice the
audience into buying the magazine
• The company of the film magazine is Empire and with all of their magazine they
always have their name behind the main image this is in red so that it can clearly
be seen by the audience. This way the audience can clearly see who the main
image is of and this means that the audience may want to buy the magazine more
as they can clearly see who is on the cover
• Inside the M on Empire the date of the magazines release and the price is given
and this shows how much the magazine is worth and this is on all magazines made
• Under Empire there is buzz words saying this is the worlds biggest movie
magazine and this means that it is a reliable source of information for films
• Around the man image of the magazine there are names of other action films
released in 2013 and this means that other films will be referenced and they have
a chance at being seen
• The main image is of the main character who is Superman and this shows the
audience who the film is about and this means that they are able to know what
the film will show
• The title of the film is in the lower 3rd this means that the audience knows what
the film is called and this means that they will remember the film as it is short and
simple
• The anchorage text says Superman gets the dark knight treatment, this could link
to other products being made such as Batman vs Superman and this means that
more buzz will be created and people will become more excited about the films

• The company of the film magazine is Empire and with all of their magazine they
always have their name behind the main image this is in red so that it can clearly
be seen by the audience. This way the audience can clearly see who the main
image is of and this means that the audience may want to buy the magazine more
as they can clearly see who is on the cover
• Inside the M on Empire the date of the magazines release and the price is given
and this shows how much the magazine is worth and this is on all magazines made
• The banner reads Wolverine has returned for… this gets the audience excited
about what would be in the magazine and makes them want to read on and see
what would happen in the film

• The main image is of Wolverine this means the audience knows who the magazine
is about and this means that the audience will want to buy the magazine more

this shows what films are available and also gives further insight into the prequel
talking about on set exclusives
• Unlike the first magazine the barcode is on the right of the screen and this is so
that the barcode is behind the main image and this way all information can be
fitted on the page
5. Avatar
• On this magazine the banner reads 3 different films that have been
released along side Avatar
• The company of the film magazine is Total Film and with all of their
magazine they always have their name behind the main image this is in
white and blue so that it can clearly be seen by the audience. This way
the audience can clearly see who the main image is of and this means
that the audience may want to buy the magazine more as they can
clearly see who is on the cover

• On this magazine it reads massive summer blockbuster preview this
tells the audience that there is a showing of the film before its
release or this magazine may have pictures and text saying what will
be included in the film
• The three biggest stars in the film are on the cover this gives the
audience a sense of how much power the Avengers have and this
will show the full frontal force that will be shown in the film and this
will make the audience want to buy the magazine
• The company of the film magazine is Total Film and with all of their
magazine they always have their name behind the main image this
is in white and blue so that it can clearly be seen by the audience.
This way the audience can clearly see who the main image is of and
this means that the audience may want to buy the magazine more
as they can clearly see who is on the cover
• On the M on film it reads the worlds best movie reviews this means
that we can count on this magazine for true and fair critiques
• It reads the worlds biggest superhero smackdown ever and this will
make Marvel fans want to read more about the film and discover
who else is acting in the film
• It also features other films including 2 marvel films and 2 films by
other companies this way they are promoting ore of their products
and other products have a chance at being seen by the public
7. Spider-Man 3
• this magazine reads the 2007 must see movie preview this is
because this is the 3rd Spiderman movie with Toby Maguire and
this means that for fans of the Spiderman movies it is a big
movie for them
• With this the magazine is by Premier they have their logo in a
bight blue font this way their logo doesn’t blend in with toby’s
hair or the background and this is so the main character and the
costume can be seen in full effect
• With this it talks about the 10 top best movies of 2007 while
Spiderman 3 is yet to be released
• The main image shows Spiderman in a different suit this makes
fans question what has happened to him and why the suit has
changed and this will make them want to read more about the
film this is further by the slogan: the secrets of Spiderman 3 as it
is a new suit and some fans may fell sceptical and eager to
watch the film
• As well as this it talks about the years greatest performances by
huge stars and as they are mentioned on a cover for a
Spiderman film it would seem the world considers Toby Maguire
a huge star in the film world
