Project Engineer in Civil & Structural Engineering
Consultant at TRACTEBEL ENGINEERING - GDF Suez Group
July 2014 – September 2014 (3 months) / Brussels, Belgium
Within the structural engineering team of the SSI service (Smart & Sustainable Infrastructures): design, modeling and dimensioning using the engineering software SCIA Engineer (Finite Elements Method), following the EUROCODES, of several projects:
Design of steel structure of an annex building of a wind farm (Nouakchott, Mauritania)
Design of reinforced concrete supporting structure for the Parotte Bridge extension (Verviers, Belgium)
Design of steel structure, concrete slab and basement of three geotechnical laboratory cellars (Belgium)
Methods Engineer
VIE at VINCI Construction Grands Projets
December 2013 – June 2014 (7 months) / New Mine Level project, Mine El Teniente, Chile
El Teniente is an underground copper mine in the Chilean Andes approximately 2,300 m (7,500 ft) above mean sea level. It is reported as "the world's biggest underground mine", and the largest of Codelco's cooper extraction operations.
The New Mine Level at El Teniente is one of five structural mine projects which are going to define Codelco’s mine operations during the next fifty years.
The project involves the construction of:
Two parallel nine kilometer-long tunnels. One for transport access and the other to move ore on a conveyor belt for processing. Tunnels and adits are being advanced by drill-and- blast.
Two additional three kilometer-long access adits, which are going to be used for the opening of new tunnel fronts, ventilation and drainage.
A cavern to house the synchronization motor for the conveyor belt.
Several annexes civil works (water treatment plants, office buildings, canteens, petrol stations, changing rooms…)
Within the technical department, and directly supervised by the Technical Director, in charge of several technical and management tasks, as:
4. Page 4
Anticipation and preparation of detailed building methods, according to the design development and progress of the works
Resolution of construction problems and ongoing process optimization
Management of the tenders for the tunnel paving, pipes and formwork, including meetings with potential suppliers
Carrying out of the tender report for the concrete formwork (design and description of the frame)
Attendance and participation in coordination meetings and follow-up of the tasks defined herein
Tunnels fortification quantities and theoretical yield calculation of the tunnel support systems.
Planning Engineer

Within the technical department, and directly supervised by both the Technical Director and the Planning Manager, I carried out, among other duties:
Developing analysis of the actual times of each activity and subsequent establishment of alternative lines of action plans in conjunction with the different areas involved in the implementation of methods that improve real times, always trying to optimize resources, and taking into account all possible scenarios
Design and management of performance indicators for the monitoring and real time control of the project and planning and project leadership of continuous improvement processes
Writing progress reports (daily, weekly, monthly) of the physical advances of the project, along with graphics and statistics of progresses and interferences (including S curve)
Linear scheduling of the tunnels (Time-location diagram, Tilos 7), planning and monitoring of the civil constructions (Primavera P6) and the finishing works (MS Project & Tilos 7)
Collaboration with other departments:
Contractual Dept: Participation in the contractual claim
HR Dept: Information sending for calculation of production bonus
Financial Dept: Contribution in the estimation of cash flow according to site information (man-hour)
Construction Dept: Production targets estimation and review of the compliance in defined times
Mechanical Dept: Control and statistics of breakdowns and breakings
Safety & Security Dept: Estimation of realistic projections about the advancements, for the installation of the security elements (as refuges and extinguishers), writing security inspection rapports, each time visiting the works, collaboration in the design of emergency plans, according to the advancement of the tunnels
