Main research interests
My main interests are within the area of statistical and mathematical modelling applied to transport
related problems. In particular;
Transport demand modelling: Has been involved in a number of larger projects - commercial as well
as research based - concerned with transport demand modelling issues. Usually, the purposes have been
to reveal demand effects due to changes in taxation or to assess changes in demand due to structural
changes in infrastructure and demography.
Population synthesis: Have in years worked a lot on micro population synthesis. Methodologies include
iterative proportional fitting routines and micro simulation. Is responsible for the forecast methodology in
the Danish National Model (include population fitting, household synthesis, projection of income and
employment) and is responsible for this in the ACTUM project.
Random Utility Theory and Discrete choice models: Am a specialist in estimation and data
processing with respect to discrete choice models. Has practical modelling experience related to models
based on Random Utility. This includes multinomial logit, nested logit, mixed logit, and related model
types.
Timeseries analysis: ARIMA processes and SUR estimation of seemingly unrelated equation systems.
Cost-benefit assessment: C/B Assessment of infrastructure projects and road-pricing schemes.
Interest include tax distortion effects, consumer-surplus derivation, and cost-estimation.
Strategic models: Have worked with long-term demand models and strategic models in transport. This
includes models for residential location, workplace, as well as car ownership. Have been concerned with
the application of spatial computable generalised equilibrium models applied to passenger transport
problems. A main interest in that respect is how to integrate land-use capacity constraints and income
constraints in a passenger modelling framework and how to integrate long- and short-term decisions.
Hedonic pricing: Are greatly interested in the abilities of hedonic pricing. I have worked with valuation
of transport externalities in that respect. Are as well interested in how hedonic pricing can be used to
reveal strategic benefits of new infrastructure.
Value-of-time: Has been working with estimation and measurement of value-of-time in transport and
how to apply value-of-time in project cost-benefit analysis.
Freight transport modelling: Have been working with freight transport modelling based on computable
generalised equilibrium models, but also from a micro-econometric perspective. I have been involved in
the development of a Danish national spatial economic model for commodity flows between counties. The
model is aimed at describing road-pricing effects on trade patterns, however, can as well be applied as a
tool to calculate infrastructure benefits. In another recent project we focused on the estimation of modal-
shifts and crossings (route choice) for freight operators in the Oresund region.

  • 2. Main research interests My main interests are within the area of statistical and mathematical modelling applied to transport related problems. In particular; Transport demand modelling: Has been involved in a number of larger projects - commercial as well as research based - concerned with transport demand modelling issues. Usually, the purposes have been to reveal demand effects due to changes in taxation or to assess changes in demand due to structural changes in infrastructure and demography. Population synthesis: Have in years worked a lot on micro population synthesis. Methodologies include iterative proportional fitting routines and micro simulation. Is responsible for the forecast methodology in the Danish National Model (include population fitting, household synthesis, projection of income and employment) and is responsible for this in the ACTUM project. Random Utility Theory and Discrete choice models: Am a specialist in estimation and data processing with respect to discrete choice models. Has practical modelling experience related to models based on Random Utility. This includes multinomial logit, nested logit, mixed logit, and related model types. Timeseries analysis: ARIMA processes and SUR estimation of seemingly unrelated equation systems. Cost-benefit assessment: C/B Assessment of infrastructure projects and road-pricing schemes. Interest include tax distortion effects, consumer-surplus derivation, and cost-estimation. Strategic models: Have worked with long-term demand models and strategic models in transport. This includes models for residential location, workplace, as well as car ownership. Have been concerned with the application of spatial computable generalised equilibrium models applied to passenger transport problems. A main interest in that respect is how to integrate land-use capacity constraints and income constraints in a passenger modelling framework and how to integrate long- and short-term decisions. Hedonic pricing: Are greatly interested in the abilities of hedonic pricing. I have worked with valuation of transport externalities in that respect. Are as well interested in how hedonic pricing can be used to reveal strategic benefits of new infrastructure. Value-of-time: Has been working with estimation and measurement of value-of-time in transport and how to apply value-of-time in project cost-benefit analysis. Freight transport modelling: Have been working with freight transport modelling based on computable generalised equilibrium models, but also from a micro-econometric perspective. I have been involved in the development of a Danish national spatial economic model for commodity flows between counties. The model is aimed at describing road-pricing effects on trade patterns, however, can as well be applied as a tool to calculate infrastructure benefits. In another recent project we focused on the estimation of modal- shifts and crossings (route choice) for freight operators in the Oresund region. Selected Projects Household TU synthesis: A project concerning construction of family-based trip diaries based on hot- deck imputation and micro-simulation. Period: 2015-; Budget: ~20.000 Euro. Period: 2003; Budget: Less than 50.000 Euro. National value-of-time pre-study: Commercial project carried out in cooperation with COWI consult A/S, Tetra Plan A/S, and DTF for the Ministry of Transport. The purpose of the project was to study methodological and data related issues regarding the measurement of the value-of-time for the purpose of project evaluation primarily. Periode: 2003; Budget: 100.000 Euro. National Freight Models in Denmark, Pre-study: Project carried out for the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with DTF. The project Involved a screening of international experience, data sources, and modelling techniques for how to build a national freight for Denmark. Periode: 2003; Budget: 100.000 Euro. Long-term travel demand modelling: The title of my PhD project funded by The Danish Environmental Research Institute, STVF, and DTU. Periode: September 1998 - June 2001; Budget: 170.000 Euro.
  • 6. ALTRANS: Model development project at the National Environmental Research Institute. The project was concerned with the development of a national behavioural transport demand model estimated from large- scale RP surveys of more than 120.000 respondents. I was responsible for model development and software implementation. Much of the work was related to database management of the TU data. Period: September 1995 - September 1998; Budget: 1-2 Mill. Euro. Integrated Environmental Assessment: The project was funded by the EU commission. I had the role as PL. The purpose was to link behavioural models for transport with models for emission exposure in larger cities.
