Theory xy org mgt
Douglas McGregor's Theory of X and Y proposed two contrasting management styles:
- Theory X assumes employees dislike work and must be closely controlled and coerced. This authoritarian style produces poor results and unmotivated employees.
- Theory Y assumes employees can exercise self-control and direction, and find work satisfying. This empowering style fosters responsibility, creativity and excellent results.
McGregor introduced Theory Y as a better alternative to the failure-prone Theory X. His work influenced companies to move from authoritarian to participative management, evaluating techniques to align individual and organizational goals. Most companies now adopt a Theory Y approach to achieve higher performance and outcomes.
