UCT is offering MOOCs for several reasons: to share learning and research beyond the university; to position UCT as a world-class university by showing innovation in online teaching; and to serve the broader interests of people in Africa by applying lessons learned to degree courses. UCT's first MOOC will begin next week, with the next scheduled for May. Research and evaluation of MOOCs will be conducted through a global network of university organizations and departments.
