The document discusses recommendations for establishing an independent oversight mechanism for the International Criminal Court (ICC). It proposes that the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) create such a mechanism to monitor the ICC's activities and ensure integrity, transparency, and adherence to professional standards. Previous steps toward this included appointing facilitators to consult with states and NGOs. The current recommendations are that the mechanism be independent of the ICC yet co-located with the Office of Internal Audit, and have authority to initiate investigations and receive whistleblower reports.

- Early sports specialization, or intense training in a single sport at the exclusion of others from a young age, has been associated with increased injury risk and attrition from sports. Specialization occurs earlier in individual sports than team sports.
- A systematic review examined the effects of early specialization on youth and adolescent athletes. Several studies found that early specialization was linked to higher rates of overuse injuries and dropping out of sports during young adulthood. However, the evidence on optimal timing of specialization is still limited.
- Athletic trainers should educate young athletes, parents, and coaches on the risks of early specialization, including overuse injuries, and encourage taking adequate rest and participating in multiple sports while young.
This document discusses physical development in adolescence and the effect of puberty on youth sports. It discusses challenges in Canada's sport system and how LTAD addresses the needs of all children through athlete-centered, coach-driven programming based on biological maturation rather than age. The document also introduces the concept of windows of optimal trainability for skills like strength, speed, stamina and flexibility.
Preparing the youth athlete for elite performanceJimmy Pritchard
Director of Strength and Conditioning (Jimmy Pritchard) for Ski & Snowboard Club Vail discusses the considerations and process of preparing youth athletes for elite sport.
This document discusses the importance of physical and mental health for children. It notes that 11% of Australian children do not meet physical activity guidelines and 1 in 5 children are overweight or obese. A child's physical and mental health can be influenced by their family's health behaviors and genetics. If obesity is not addressed in childhood, it can lead to health issues in adulthood like heart disease, diabetes, and depression. The document recommends that participating in sports and physical activity can improve both physical and mental health by enhancing self-esteem, developing friendships, and reducing stress. It suggests schools can promote children's health by encouraging physical activity through active play at breaks, healthy canteens, and physical education programs.
This survey aims to examine the relationship between a child's physical activity and the number of hours their parents work. Participation is voluntary and responses will remain anonymous. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and asks questions about a child's indoor and outdoor activities, team involvement, and number of active days in the past week. It also collects information on the child's parents' employment status and hours worked per week.

Sensing for Science: A poster for the NSF EPSCoR National ConferenceSuziT9
The use of direct and remote sensors is a key component of Montana NSF EPSCoR research: from drone-based hyperspectral images to chemical composition of water quality attributes. Yet the “black box” features of sensors remain largely mystical to a lay audience.
The Sensing for Science broader impacts program aims to expand Montanans’ knowledge of and appreciation for sensors, particularly as tied to NSF EPSCoR-supported research.

From the Big Bang to Broadway: How Things EvolveSuziT9
Astrobiology center hosts evolution talk on Sept. 1
The public is invited to "From the Big Bang to Broadway: How Things Evolve," a free lecture on Thursday, Sept. 1. The event is sponsored by Montana State University, and takes place at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the Rockies.
The speaker is Robert M. Hazen, a scientist and author from the Carnegie Institute of Washington, who will explore the concept of evolution in many diverse contexts, not just biological (Darwinian) evolution by natural selection. Hazen will compare evolution in everything from the development of language and progress in culture and the arts, to the formation of chemical elements in stars following the Big Bang and diversification of minerals on Earth-like planets. The similarities and differences among these systems underscore general principles of emergent complexity and underscore the power and plausibility of biological evolution.
Hazen is author of 350 scientific articles and 20 books, including Genesis: The Scientific Quest for Life’s Origin, and he frequently presents science to nonscientists through radio, television, public lectures and video courses. Hazen’s recent research focuses on the role of minerals in the origin of life. The mineral hazenite, which is precipitated by microbes in the highly alkaline Mono Lake in California, is named after him.
The event is part of a free community lecture series sponsored by MSU's NASA-funded Astrobiology Biogeocatalysis Research Center. Admission is free.

Enrollment is limited to only 115 children per session, so register early!
Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Early enrollment allows us to determine how many instructors are
needed to maintain a low student/teacher ratio.
Your children will get appropriate developmental instruction in a variety of movement and sport related activities.
They'll have a FUN, ACTIVE SUMMER! The success of this program is directly related to the high quality of instructors
who are mostly Physical Education graduate students with excellent sports and physical activity experience. They are
chosen primarily for their interest and ability in working with children. Because instructors are hired based upon
enrollment, reimbursement for days missed or early withdrawal has been discontinued.
PLEASE NOTE: Montana State University does not provide accident insurance for participants. It is strongly
recommended that parents/guardians provide accident coverage for their children enrolled in the program.
All children and NEW parents are to report on the
first day of each session for a short orientation at 1:00 PM.
