 Everybody is the author and the editor, every edit that has been made can be
tracked.
 User-friendly.
 It provides real-time discussion.
What is the purpose (scope)?
 YouTube provides access to a vast range of material that is designed to inform,
educate and entertain, a wide range of different interests and areas of expertise.
 The content is video based and features may different types of content, ranging from:
PowerPoint (and other platforms) presentations, documentary films, interviews, text
readings, hidden camera, live teaching and many other forms.
 The platform has many users and provides a wealth of information on a massive
range of material catering to a vast range of different tastes and interests.
 There is no guarantee regarding the accuracy and quality of content and this needs
to be assessed by the teacher ahead of distribution to students.
How does this
work in practice
at the general
level?
 This works very well in many of
my subjects, especially history
where access to documentaries
are a very valuable tool for
students to gain a good
understanding of a topic, ready
to go into greater depth later
on.
 The sheer range of material
available is useful for selecting
which is the most relevant for
the students to use and this
range gives the teacher a good
opportunity to find a very useful
learning tool.
Some core features that
are useful to know.
The main core features that make this a
valuable resource are as follows:
 The fact that the service is free.
 The amount of available material
allowing teachers to select from a
range of relevant videos.
 The quality of much of the available
content.
 The ease of use of the service.
What educational use
does this open for?
 Integration into a flipped classroom
situation where the teacher can use
YouTube as a platform for delivering
teaching videos to students for them to
watch before a lesson.
 Use for remote teaching to help develop
and enhance learning potential.
 A great source of relevant, educational and
informative videos on a range of different
topics.
Which pedagogical / subject
didactic models or learning
views is this suitable for?
 Flipped classroom.
 Asynchronous learning where students learn whenever it
suits them.
 Student-led and peer teaching through videos and
presentations.
 Video as a form of delivering educational material, for
example, student presentations, teacher videos, student
projects such as group texts etc.
 Research based learning that can be used a platform to
start a debate, or lead to further research.
 Student progress recorder where students develop a video
blog detailing their progress in particular project or
course.

this is included.
 Flipped classroom is the easiest model for
displaying how YouTube can play a vital role in the
classroom.
 The teacher can make a range of videos and
presentations for the students to watch at home
that will be used as preparation for in-depth class
work later on.
 The videos provide a unique opportunity for
students to watch these videos and presentations
as often as they want to ensure they understand
the material.
 This can even be accompanied by a recording of
the lesson/assessment component for students to
re-watch and learn from.

  • 2. Advantages of Web 2.0 and YouTube  Available at any time, any place.  Variety of media.  Ease of usage.  Learners can actively be involved in knowledge building.  Can create dynamic learning communities.  Everybody is the author and the editor, every edit that has been made can be tracked.  User-friendly.  It provides real-time discussion.
  • 3. What is the purpose (scope)?  YouTube provides access to a vast range of material that is designed to inform, educate and entertain, a wide range of different interests and areas of expertise.  The content is video based and features may different types of content, ranging from: PowerPoint (and other platforms) presentations, documentary films, interviews, text readings, hidden camera, live teaching and many other forms.  The platform has many users and provides a wealth of information on a massive range of material catering to a vast range of different tastes and interests.  There is no guarantee regarding the accuracy and quality of content and this needs to be assessed by the teacher ahead of distribution to students.
  • 4. How does this work in practice at the general level?  This works very well in many of my subjects, especially history where access to documentaries are a very valuable tool for students to gain a good understanding of a topic, ready to go into greater depth later on.  The sheer range of material available is useful for selecting which is the most relevant for the students to use and this range gives the teacher a good opportunity to find a very useful learning tool.
  • 5. Some core features that are useful to know. The main core features that make this a valuable resource are as follows:  The fact that the service is free.  The amount of available material allowing teachers to select from a range of relevant videos.  The quality of much of the available content.  The ease of use of the service.
  • 6. What educational use does this open for?  Integration into a flipped classroom situation where the teacher can use YouTube as a platform for delivering teaching videos to students for them to watch before a lesson.  Use for remote teaching to help develop and enhance learning potential.  A great source of relevant, educational and informative videos on a range of different topics.
  • 7. Which pedagogical / subject didactic models or learning views is this suitable for?  Flipped classroom.  Asynchronous learning where students learn whenever it suits them.  Student-led and peer teaching through videos and presentations.  Video as a form of delivering educational material, for example, student presentations, teacher videos, student projects such as group texts etc.  Research based learning that can be used a platform to start a debate, or lead to further research.  Student progress recorder where students develop a video blog detailing their progress in particular project or course.
  • 8. A sketch of a teaching program where this is included.  Flipped classroom is the easiest model for displaying how YouTube can play a vital role in the classroom.  The teacher can make a range of videos and presentations for the students to watch at home that will be used as preparation for in-depth class work later on.  The videos provide a unique opportunity for students to watch these videos and presentations as often as they want to ensure they understand the material.  This can even be accompanied by a recording of the lesson/assessment component for students to re-watch and learn from.
