Important Attributes 
• The New England colonies were known for 
exporting, fish, lumber, grains, and ships. 
• The New England Colonies were the biggest in 
importing and exporting because of their 
many ports. People in the colonies traded with 
people in England, thus making the New 
England Colonies very lucrative. 
• Small plots of land was planted on so that the 
colonies could be self relient.
Effects of Triangular Trade 
• The Triangular Trade helped the New England 
Colonies with the buying and selling of slaves 
for profit so that the Southern Colonies could 
use the slaves for their plantation.
Effects of Great Awakening 
• The Great awakening effected the New England 
Colonies by allowing people to come to the 
America’s and practice the religion they wanted 
to practice without being persecuted or some 
other form of punishment because they didn’t 
believe in the traditional religion of wherever 
they came from. 
• The Great Awakening is the reason why different 
religious groups moved to the Americas to make 
religions such as, Calvinism, Predestination 
beliefs, Congregationalism, and intolerance.
Effects of Enlightenment Thinking on 
Gov. 
• Enlightenment not only affected the New 
England colonies, but the Europe too. It gave 
everybody a uniform view of the world, by 
simply looking at nature and making sense of 
things that were muddled by the incorrect 
conclusions of the past.
Middle Colonies 
New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, 
Delaware
Important Attributes 
• The Middle Colonies were mainly used for 
agriculture, and industry. 
• The most prevalent things grown in the 
middle colonies were grains. These grains 
were sold to England for profit. 
• The industry in the Middle Colonies was the 
making of iron and the making of all different 
types of fabrics.
Effects of Triangular Trade 
• The Middle Colonies traded mostly iron ore 
products, and grains with the England through 
the triangular trade. The Middle colonies 
didn’t really need slaves because they were 
not growing things on a large scale to where 
that needed slaves. Despite the lack of a need 
for slaves in the Middle Colonies there were 
still slaves.
Effects of Great Awakening 
• The Great Awakening effected each area of 
the colonies in relatively the same way. All of 
the sections of the colonies were established 
and everyone was now aloud to practice any 
religion they wanted to.
Effects of Enlightenment Thinking on 
the Gov. 
• Enlightenment gave people a somewhat 
united view of the world and common 
knowledge that everyone should’ve known.
Southern Colonies 
Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, 
South Carolina, Georgia

• The Southern Colonies were specifically known 
for their agriculture. They grew things like Rice, 
Greens, Tobacco, Corn, and Sugar. 
• The Southern Colonies soil was the most fertile of 
all of the thirteen colonies which made it a great 
place for farming and agriculture. 
• The people that came to the Southern Colonies 
were mostly out to make money by farming, and 
Agriculture.
