3. Enterprise Mobility Drives Productivity and User Satisfaction: Market Viewpoints "Mobility is here to stay, and investment in tools to better support mobile and remote users represents a significant upside for the business as a whole." In fact, according to the Forrester study, 91% of enterprises with manual mobile support processes believe the ability to connect to a remote user's devices would be a key IT investment. Improved worker and executive management satisfaction with IT is cited as a primary benefit (78%), with increased productivity of remote workers (72%) and IT efficiency (67%) also ranking highly. Source: Forrester: Remote Support Increases Staff Effectiveness Published on Oct 16, 2009 "Similar to 2008, mobility initiatives at enterprises will be a priority — even in a down market. In 2008, Forrester’s survey results show that between 40% and 60% of enterprises in North America and Europe identified more mobility support to employees, implementation of fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions, and formalization of a mobile strategy as critical priorities...... Why? Mobile applications and solutions let enterprises cut costs and improve employee productivity or worker efficiency — all important initiatives in a constrained business environment. 4. Enabling Enterprise Mobility Considerations: Market Perspectives Mobile Web a ‘Missed Opportunity’ Tara Seals - Nov 2, 2009 .... .only 1 percent of Web sites have capabilities specifically designed for mobile. And that translates into a generally poor wireless Web experience for users, and a big missed opportunity for operators, content owners and advertisers alike. Sure, those with smartphones and full Web browsers can navigate to any site on the Internet; but limitations within the handsets or within the operating system (i.e., lack of Flash support in the iPhone) can render Web sites that have been created for desktop use pale shadows of themselves when viewed on a wireless device. And, every device has its own specific way of rendering content, so a BlackBerry user might see a regular Web site as having overly large type, while a Droid user might have trouble viewing embedded images. Or, vice versa. .....Done correctly, the mobile opportunity itself is large, according to Gartner, which projects mobile ad spending worldwide to grow a full 74 percent this year to $913.5 million. By 2013, the research firm expects mobile ad spending to surpass $13 billion. Squeezing Web Sites Onto Cellphones Wall Street Journal - Dec 2, 2009 ...The move to mobile isn't without challenges. Companies have to decide whether to create a barebones site accessible by even the most basic handset, or opt for a flashier application accessible by select smart phones. Different phones, screen sizes and platforms create headaches for site designers.....

Editor's Notes
in this slide, after discussing the 2 key benefits that are resonating with our customers today. I discuss a few of the Portals that our customers have in production WW represented by these screen shots: Prudential Insurance (B2C) an international insurance company based in the Eastern US, uses WS Portal to integrate 9 different lines of insurance business to a single view for their customers to access their entire portfolio. Customers can update their coverage, pay their premiums and add new policies and coverage 24x7. In fact, Prudential has found that customers who use the portal for self service have a higher loyalty rating that other customers and Prudential has also found that this is an effective tool for cross sell and upsell. Self service is a much lower cost channel to transact business. Prudential also supports its call center (B2E) and agent (B2B) channels via the portal – integrating those same 9 lines of business to a single view for a call center rep to address customer inquiries and transactions faster and more effectively – alowing them to handle more calls in less time which equates to big savings for Prudential. In addtion, a single view of a customer, as well as Prudentials offerings for agents increases agent loyalty – thus they do more business w Prudential than w other insurance providers. College.Gov (G2C) is a site operated by the US Federal Gov Dept of Education to further the goal of te US to have a more highly educated population. DoE did quite a bit of market Research to make sure that the web experience appealed to its target market: young people who are considering whether or not to go to college. The site offers resources and advice to people to help them attend. The billboard photo in this screeen shot actually represents a video that was personally uploaded by the young woman in the photo – as are all of the examples on this site: young people make a video talking about how they are going to go to college, their personal goals and dreams for what they want to accomplish at college and after they graduate. A true web 2.0 social experience which drives more traffic from the target audience to this site.
There is constant crossover between the external web advances and internal uses. Employee Intranets have fueled the requirements of Websphere Portal for 8 years and again we see an insatiable hunger to use the proven, secure, and personalized integration capability of WebSphere Portal as the means to deliver Web 2.0 capabilities to the employee masses... ... Integrating seamlessly from inside and outside your company the applications, content, collaboration, cloud services, consumer Web, and more. ... all in ONE resonating Employee experience In addition to these individual experiences, employee networks enabled by portals are "forming and contributing" to better business outcomes and driving company growth

Enterprises can use it to write once and render on multiple devices through device-independent authoring.
