PRESENTED BY :-

What Is Database
administration ?
Database administration is the function
of managing and maintaining database
management systems (DBMS) software.
Types of Database
Administration
 Systems DBAs
 Development DBAs
 Application DBAs
Database administration tools
• Adminer
• Advanced Query Tool
• Bulk Copy Program
• CDBF
• Data management
• DataEase
• DBEdit
Sybase
• Sybase headquarters in Dublin,
California.
• Sybase is an enterprise
software and services company
that produces software to manage
and analyze information
in relational databases. Sybase is
a standalone subsidiary of SAP.
Oracle Dtabase
Oracle Database (commonly
referred to as Oracle RDBMS or
simply as Oracle) is an object-
relational database management
system produced and marketed
by Oracle Corporation
What Is Mirroring?
Mirroring is the behaviour in which one
person subconsciously imitates the
gesture, speech pattern, or attitude of
another.
What is Database Mirroring?
Database mirroring is the creation and
maintenance of redundant copies of
a database.
Architecture
Mirroring Architecture
What Is Replication?
Replication is the process of copying
and maintaining database objects in
multiple databases that make up a
distributed database system.
What is Database Replication?
Database replication is the process
ofcreating and maintaining multiple
instancesof the same database
Architecture
Replication Architecture
Application
 Database administration
The Application Database Administrator
is to be responsible for all aspects of the
usage of databases in the logical realm.
 Database mirroring
• Database mirroring is a reliable.
• High-availability solution in SQL
Server 2008.
To maximize database availability.
Advantages of the Database
Administration
• Data Independence
• Consistency of Data
• Control Over Redundancy
Disadvantages of the Database
Administration
• Larger Size
• Greater Complexity
• Greater Impact of System Failure
Advantages of Database Mirroring:
• More robust
• Efficient than Database Log Shipping.
• Configuration is simpler than log
shipping and replication
Disadvantages of Database Mirroring:
• Mirror server/database is not available
for user operation
• It only works at database level
Advantages of Database Replication:
• Increased reliability and availability
• Less communication overhead
• Queries requesting replicated copies of
data are always faster
Disadvantages of Database Replication:
• More storage space is needed when
compared to a centralized system
• Update operation is costly
• Maintaining data integrity is complex
Conclusions
Successful enterprises understand the
vital importance of maintaining highly
available technology infrastructures to
protect critical data and information
systems.
