The Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway Coalition held its quarterly meeting at the Schenectady Public Library on October 22, 2015. Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

- 1. MOHAWK TOWPATH SCENIC BYWAY COALITION, INC. Minutes of Quarterly Meeting – Schenectady Public Library October 22, 2015 Attending: Mark Hopper, Maritime Center; Jamie McFarland, Town of Glenville; Will Seyse, Village of Scotia; Daphne Jordan, Town of Halfmoon; Henrietta O’Grady, Secretary and designated alternate; Larry Syzdek, Chairman; Eric Hamilton, Director, Town of Clifton Park. Proxy vote: Ed Tremblay, Cohoes Housekeeping Minutes from the 7/16/15 meeting were moved by Eric, seconded by Daphne and approved. Treasurer’s Report: Bank savings balance of $35,616.27; Checking account - $4,435.76 Correspondence: Letter requesting support for an Erie Canalway National Heritage Commission grant from the City of Cohoes. MOTION to grant letter of support for City of Cohoes and its Visitor Center proposed by Eric, seconded by Henny and adopted. Old Business Resolution regarding Colonie landfill expansion as it affects Mohawk Towpath Byway. A draft letter was circulated by Eric and a lengthy discussion ensued. Eric agreed to make a few changes and to circulate the letter which was addressed to DEC to all municipal members for their review and approval. Interpretive Kiosks: Two kiosks are due to be installed: one at the Vischer Ferry Dam overlook and the second one at the Old Military Crossing in Colonie. New Business Budget for 2016: Eric presented the Draft Budget for 2016 noting that the towns were being asked to contribute $600 for upkeep and continuing programs for the Byway. Eric also explained the major projects that were involved in the Project Budget including four interpretation kiosks and the annual fundraiser, the Duathlon. Figures for the 2015 Duathlon were incomplete at this meeting. Unfunded projects for the future were mentioned but remained postponed.
- 2. Total Operating Budget for 2016 $9,900. MOTION to adopt the Operating Budget for 2016 at the $9,900 amount was proposed by Daphne, seconded by Henny and approved Interpretive Kiosks for 2016 Two interpretive kiosks are proposed for 2016: (1) Aqueduct Park in Niskayuna and (2) 1842 Erie Canal Locks in the City of Cohoes. Monies for these two kiosks were designated under grants in the Projects Budget. Executive Director’s Report Early numbers from the recently held Duathlon indicated that there would be close to a $3,000 profit from the race to benefit the works of the Byway. Final figures would be forthcoming. January Meeting is scheduled for a central location in Clifton Park. Calendar events were listed and would appear on the website, www.mohawktowpath.org.
