This document provides an overview of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and T cell receptors. It describes the structure and function of MHC class I and II molecules, including their antigen binding grooves. The genetic basis for generating diversity in T cell receptors is also discussed. The key requirements for T cell activation, including TCR recognition of antigen presented in MHC context and co-stimulatory signals, are summarized.
