The Cookie MonStar Cookie Company is implementing a Lean Six Sigma project to improve operations at their older facility. Data shows the older facility has higher customer complaints and lower profits than the newer facility. The project team conducted a define phase where they created a charter and project plan. In the measure phase, the team found that taste parameters at the older facility fell below specifications, which increased customer complaints. The analyze phase determined the main root cause was variance in cookie hardness caused by using a new flour vendor at the older facility. Statistical analysis showed the new flour had 82.5% higher variance in cookie hardness.
