Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant known as 4-methylemethcathinone, gained popularity in the UK as a street drug by 2009, being used by various social groups. The drug, which can be ingested in multiple forms, has effects including euphoria and increased alertness, but also poses serious side effects and unknown long-term health risks. Mephedrone was made illegal in Israel in 2008, and in April 2010, it was classified as a Class B drug in the UK under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
