King Oedipus The King Essay
Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so
perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious
action in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the
audience. Aspects of a tragedyinclude a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a
hamartia which causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common
example of hamartia is hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia,
which is when the tragic hero has a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and
also to fear, by showing us how what happened to him could happen to us as... Show more content

However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that
they contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I
whom no stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the
curse that none but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all
these curses for anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses,
which he himself laid. This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the
people in Laius party save one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how
Oedipus is capable of such an extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero.
Similarly, Sophocles uses irony when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications?
which shows how Oedipus is not the only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine
warning, which helps to show the play as an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not
quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when
Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus
final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which

Thesis About Snow Treasure
Have you ever thought about your country having a war with other country?? Snow Treasure by
Marie McSwigan is a sad and memorable story of children carrying gold in Norway(Norway is
their country) and adults fighting with Germans. This story is important to people who think war
is nothing. Because in this story, they show how they are having a hard time during the war. I
really admire character Jan Lasek, who is a Pole but he was once German solider. Then you ll ask
me why. Because he risked his life to save Peter from German army.
This story takes place in Norway during a war with Germans. The protagonist is Peter, a brave
young boy about ten years old. He leads children to carry a gold in Norway to Uncle Victor,
because Uncle Victor should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s important because it shows how much hard time they are having during the war and it
teaches you how people get hurt by war. In the war between Norway and German, children
always have to pull gold on the sled because Germans can take them. They carry more than
100kg. It will be really hard. And by hurting, sure it can be like shooting gun hurting, but if our
heart hurts, it really hurts. Like with war, when people pass away, think about it. How will their
family feel?? Really, really sad. So I think like war, we shouldn t make it happen.
I was able to identify with Peter who was afraid at first to be the leader but later on he did a great
job. I strongly recommend this book because it is touching and it shows how children has done a
great job, with very responsible actions. I was very moved with Jan Lasek because even if he
can die, he risked his life for Peter. How touching and amazing is that?? I think I can t have done
it. I was inspired with Uncle Victor s idea. If children is around, who would think they are
carrying a gold?? It was a great idea. It taught me that if we really want something, they risk their
lifes to. Like for example, if my mother is sick, than I ll do anything to fix it. Won t you?
It s a interesting story. It really made me sweat some times. And you ll be moved with what Jan
Lasek has done for Peter. I really loved this book. I recommend to all my

A Discussion On Ethical Theories
5.0 Following up discussions based on ethical theories
After discussing ethical dilemmas from individual and corporation aspects, we bring ethical
discussions from four major points according to ethical theories introduced in the background
section: social duty, consequence, law and culture.
5.1 Social Duty
Happy Meal , a specialized meal marketed at children from McDonald s contains main item such
as a hamburger, a side item like french fries, a drink, and most important, a toy. 20% of
McDonald s sales is from toys, it has become one of the largest US toy distributors. McDonald s
uses popular characters such as minions or Hello Kitty to attract children to their happy meal.
Because of these toys, McDonald s became the most popular American kid s restaurant. Some
children even ask for Happy Meal only for the toys. Because Happy Meal is the most popular fast
food product, McDonald is big extend has a significant relationship with American childhood
obesity.
Is the Happy Meal ethical or not? According to Kant s theory, which includes that people have the
duty to not physically harm others, McDonald s behavior is unethical. Because as a fast food
company, McDonald s targets children by using toys and selling them fast food which make
children obese and make far lasting impacts on those children s dietary habits.
But from McDonald s aspect, they provide healthier choice by changing the french fires to apple
slides, and they also provides all the nutritional facts for

seem really aggressive and vicious. However, this is not the case the opossum, is actually a very
shy very mellow animal that only looks to gain a free meal every chance it gets. Opossums are

The Fathers Of The Family
The fathers of the family were constantly out working in the fields, and the mother of the family
would either be cleaning, taking care of infants, or cooking for her family. So, from the time
children are able to walk, they have to discover ways to pass the time. Just like today, some
activities were restricted due to the weather outside. For example, during the winter season pigs
were being slaughtered. Children would go to the slaughterhouse and pick up the pigs bladders
and blow them up like balloons. Also during the wintertime, it would snow. Just like children
today, kids would go out in the streets and participate in snowball fights. When it was summery
outside children would go to ponds or streams and have water fights with their friends or siblings,
because during this time water fights were a popular form of recreation. Other forms of recreation
were: fighting battles with wooden swords, competing in little play tournaments, and playing hide
and seek. Chiara Frugoni noted in her book: We known more about medieval children s games ever
since a whole collection of toys made of clay was discovered during the nineteenth century in
Strasbourg, in the workshop of a thirteenth century potter: bird shaped whistles, miniature tiles and
pitchers, tiny moneyboxes, little dolls, and diminutive horses with riders on their backs. (Frugoni,
p. 131)
Simultaneously, children during this period also had to learn. Children who were born into a poverty

Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice Essay
Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice for the Provision of Benefits in Kind
At the Budget 2016 the government announced that due to concerns over the rising cost of salary
sacrifice, it would consider limiting the range of benefits in kind (BIK) that attract income tax and
National Insurance Contributions (NIC) advantages when provided as part of salary sacrifice
arrangements. Following this Budget announcement, on 10th August HMRC published a
consultation document which sets out a high level proposal for the future tax treatment of BIK
offered via salary sacrifice.
The consultation period will run from 10th August to 19th October, and during this time Willis
Towers Watson will be reviewing the proposals together with industry bodies, as well as looking at
what providers have to say, before responding to HMRC. The proposal may be subject to change
and/or clarification following the consultation period. The government expects to make an
announcement on decision made following the consultation in the Autumn Statement 2016.
The proposed changes in summary
The main proposed change is to introduce new tax legislation from 6th April 2017 that will
make a BIK provided through salary sacrifice chargeable to income tax and Class 1A employer
NIC, even if the BIK is normally exempt from tax and Class 1A NIC. The BIK charge will be
calculated as the greater of the salary sacrifice amount or the cash equivalent.
The proposals specifically target salary sacrifice

Essay Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway s tough, terse prose and short, declarative sentences did more to change the
style of written English that any other writing in the twentieth century. Ernest Hemingway had
many great accomplishments in his historical life but one event sticks out from the rest. The Old
Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway s most enduring works. Told in Language of great
simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, agonizing battle with a giant marlin
far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic
theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss. Written in 1952, this
hugely successful novel confirmed his power and presence in the literacy... Show more content on

He would later adapt this style to his fiction. In May of 1918, Hemingway became an honorary
second lieutenant in the Red Cross. He could not join the army due to a defective left eye
(resentfully inherited from his mother). On his first day of service across seas, he and other
ambulance drivers were assigned the horrific duty of picking up body parts from an exploded
munitions factory. Death, mostly of women, on such a scale was most definitely another very
shocking moment in Hemingway s young life. But he soon recovered from this experience and
became known as the man who was always where the action is. He would often sneak cigarettes
and chocolate to soldiers on the Italian front. It was on one of these occasions that he was
severely wounded by an Austrian trench mortar. Even with over a hundred pieces of shrapnel
and an Austrian machine gun bullet logged in his leg he managed to carry a wounded soldier a
hundred yards to safety. He got the Italian Medal of Valor for his courageous action. He spent his
recovery time at the Ospedale Croce Rossa Americana, in Milan. It is there that he met and fell for
a thirty year old nurse called Agnes Hannah. To Ernest s disappointment, Agnes was not willing to
embark in a relationship. Ernest, who had not yet turned twenty, who was a war hero, a journalist
and a wounded soldier, was too

Theme Of Justice In The Merchant Of Venice
The theme of justice in Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice is both controversial and
complicated towards the content of whether justice is served. Justice of law and justice of
morality are illustrated in the play, but in a closer examination hypocrisy and lawlessness are
present as well. I will be trying to analyze the theme of justicetaking under consideration the themes
of religion, racism and Anti Semitism of that era. To be more specific, Shylockis a Jewish merchant
whose legal rights have been violated, as Antonio was incapable of paying his debt to him.
Seeking justice, Shylock goes to court demanding his pound of flesh from Antonio, in order for his
bond to be satisfied. Obviously, Shylock seeks vengeance against Antonio... Show more content on

One would expect merciful actions to match noble words. One would be sorely disappointed.
Portia s inconsistency between word and deed is vast. The gulf between her preaching about
mercy dropping as the gentle rain from heaven and her vengeful punishment of Shylock is
unbridgeably wide. (45) Portia s hypocrisy is also obvious in Act 1 Scene 2 when the Prince of
Morocco comes in order to choose the right casket and marry her. Though she argues to be a
Christian and an obedient daughter, she reveals her racist beliefs saying to her maid: If he have
the condition of a saint and the complexion of a devil, I had rather he should shrive me than wive
me. (The Merchant of Venice act 1 scene 2, 33.) A true Christian is not supposed to criticize
another person because of his skin color. Therefore, her obedience to her father s law is
hypocritical as well, because she admits that she d rather die than marry the Prince of Morocco, a
suitor that according to her father s will could be her future

Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics
Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics Theory (Part 1a) Introduction: The Beginning of the
Continental Drift Theory In the middle of the eighteenth century, James Hutton proposed a theory,
uniformitarianism; the present is the key to the past . It held that processes such as geologic forces
gradual and catastrophic occurring in the present were the same that operated in the past. (Matt
Rosenberg, 2004) This theory coincides with the theory of Continental Drift that was first proposed
by Abraham Ortelius in December 1596, who suggested that North, South America, Africa and
Eurasia were once connected but had been torn apart by earthquakes and floods. He also discovered
that the coasts of the eastern part of South America and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Water from the south then flowed in over time, thus forming the evaporites now found along the
coastlines there. (Lois Van Wagner, 2013)(Figure 5) However, Wegener believed that only the
continents were moving and they plowed through the rocks of the ocean basins. (Colliers
Encyclopedia, 1996) Harold Jeffreys then argued that it is impossible for continents to break
through solid rock without breaking apart. (USGS, 2012) Wegener also claimed that the
centrifugal force of the spinning planet had forced the continents sideways, parallel to the
equator; tidal pull from the sun and moon had caused lateral movement. (Sant, Joseph, 2012) His
orders of magnitude were too weak. Thus, his theory was dismissed. (Lois Van Wagner, 2013)
Further development and support of the Continental Drift Theory in the 1960s After World War
2, the U.S. Office of Naval Research intensified efforts in ocean floor mapping, leading to the
discovery of the Mid Atlantic Ridge to be part of a continous system of mid oceanic ridges on all
ocean floors, prompting Harry H. Hess to suggest the theory of sea floor spreading. The oldest
fossils found in ocean sediments were only 180 million years old and little sediment were
accumulated on the ocean floor. Thus, he suggested that seafloors were no more than a few hundred
million years old, significantly younger than continental land due to

Then and Now: Changes of Racism, Sexism, and Classism
In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout, the protagonists in the book, experience
and learn about the problems of racism, sexism, and classism when their father, Atticus, agrees to
defend Tom Robinson, an African American
, in a trial. Set in the 1930s, most people were treated
unfairly because of their race, gender, or social class. Even though problems about race, gender, and
class decreased over time, these problems are still very prevalent today. Even though racism
decreased dramatically over the past decades, there are still problems today that are strikingly
similar to the problems in To Kill A Mockingbird. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus explains to
Jem and Scout about the unfairness of court: when it s a white man s word against a black man s,
the white man always wins. They re ugly, but those are the facts of life (Lee 220). Even though
this was set in the 1930 s, juries from court still have a racial bias to this day. In fact, from the
Sentencing Project, an organization that advocates change in sentencing policy and advocating
alternatives to incarceration, it has been shown that African Americans are six times more likely to
be incarcerated than white males... if current trends continue, one of every three black Americans
can expect to go to prison in his lifetime (Sentencing Project 1). In the United States, people have

Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama
Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both
very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to
the renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative
process based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres
has had an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects
such as religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct
theatrical natures of Greek theatre and medieval dramawill be made apparent. Though both genres
of theatre are closely tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious
motivations that impact the ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was
used to entertain or please the Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important
of the four Athenian festivals: the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as
Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one
satyr play to be performed in front of approximately 15,000 spectators. In classical Greece, theatre
was the center of citizenship and society; religious ideologies towards Dionysus were not only
realized by performances, but strongly encouraged by the state. For example, if a citizen could not
afford to attend the

The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay
The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it
inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II,
Anglo American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the
world as the whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang,
Reinders, Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand
has initially started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai
educationnowadays. The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating
English as a compulsory subject in schools and universities. The English teaching method was
influenced by western educational ideology of values system or classical humanism where
knowledge is seen as a set of revealed truths possessed by the teacher whose task is to pass it on to
the learners (J. L. Clark, 1987cited in Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015).Thus, the dominant
teaching method has been grammar translation . Todd (2005cited in Darasawang, Reinders and
Walter, 2015, p.3) stated that
English teaching in Thailand has been dominated by the traditional talk and chalk approach where
classrooms are teacher centered and explanation of English grammar given in Thai
predominate...this traditional approach is still the most common...

Summary Of Carter Father Of Black History Month
Carter G. Woodson formally known as the Father of Black History Month was an extraordinarily
wise man who dedicated his life time to African American History. His most famous pieces of
writings was his book The Mis Education of the Negro in which many topics are discussed for
example education, business, politics, religion, self hatred, and black on black prejudice, which I
exceptionally believe is a very negative dilemma in the present day society. An abundant amount of
what Woodson wrote about in nineteen thirtythree about blacks minds being controlled through the
white people in economics, history, literature, philosophy and religion I strongly agree is still, to an
extent the problem today. Is Carter. G Woodson s thoughts in 1933

This like then is still negatively affecting the black children being taught these biased history
because it is teaching them that we was nothing but slaves who picked cotton on plantations. If
they are lucky the book may mention a sentence or two about Frederick Douglass and Harriet
Tubman, but for the most part that is all black people contributed to history. Which installs at an
early age in black children that we are not as smart, skilled, and important as the white man.
Education was not the only aspect Woodson discussed in his book that is still prevalent today.
Correspondingly, politics also is an aspect Woodson discussed in The Mis Education of the
Negro that is prevalent in present day society. Woodson quotes, ANOTHER factor the Negro
needs is a new figure in politics, one who will not concern himself so much with what others can
do for him as with what he can do for himself (Woodson chap. 17 par. 1). In Woodson s book
when he talks about politics like the quote above he says how black people need to make a way
for themselves and respect themselves instead of being so dependent on the white man s
government that has been against black people from the beginning. What Woodson spoke about is
still prevalent in the society today but to an extent. It is prevalent because

Mascots In Baseball
Why Does Baseball Have Mascots for Their Team?
With the exception of only three major league teams, the Angels, the Yankees, and the Dodgers,
most baseball teams have a mascot. This mascot may not seem to have much of a purpose and
according to some, the mascot is more beneficial in other sports, but there is a purpose to it. To
ensure the crowd is entertained. However, many people still want to know why baseball has
mascots. The answer is simple. It is a distraction between plays, something that people can enjoy
seeing during downtime, and something that symbolizes the team.
The idea of a mascot in sports was started in a baseball team. Mr. Met was introduced in 1964 when
Shea Stadium opened and the New York Mets were playing. It was an

Throughout my many years of living, I have experienced many near death experiences. Today, I
will be sharing one of these experiences that I have been through. First of all, it was the March
23, 2012. It was a Friday. I, young Daryl, was still learning his basic math with a bowl cut on his
head at the age of 11. School ended. My sister Gerryl and I were just picked up around 3:20 p.m.
and arrived home approximately at 3:25 p.m. My sister Gerryl suggested with eagerness, Mom,
Dad are we able to watch that new movie that just came out today, The Hunger Games? My father,

At that moment my sister stopped midway through her conversation, pointing with fear at a
motorcyclist having blood gushing through his leg. The man glanced deep into my eyes, and I
thought in my mind that will never happen to me. It was a tragedy when I observed the accident,
and I was acting a bit too conceited. Two miles had passed the traffic from this accident was
tremendous, a full stop. Luckily, my father spotted in the corner of his pupil that the nearest lane to
the sidewalk was accessible, and nobody was driving on it surprisingly. We went ahead to move
to the right, changing lanes carefully to reach the lane. At that instant, my dad then increased
speed to 45 miles per hour to get to the theatre slightly quicker. As we were advancing through
this lane at immense speed, a Toyota Civic with a brown tint then tried to change lanes. My dad
was furious that he did not want the car to cut him off when it was his right of way. My dad then
commented with a temper, No! Stomping on the gas pedal, he increased his acceleration to a
rushing 75 miles per hour to prevent the car from cutting us off. The car continued to change
lanes carelessly without a turn signal. At that moment, all I remembered was glass being
shattered everywhere. My heart then stopped, and I was whiplashed with massive force having
my head collide with the dashboard. Furthermore, all I saw was pitch black, and I did not know
what was happening. After six minutes have passed, I regained some consciousness, shaking my
head and trying to gain coordination with my eyes. All that I could hear is an old woman s voice

Effects Of Eyewitness Testimony On The Us Criminal Justice...
Midterm Paper: The Effects of Eyewitness Testimony in the US Criminal Justice System On
December 14th, 1982, Marvin Anderson was sentenced to 210 years in prison for crimes that he
did not commit [1]. He was charged with rape, forcible sodomy, abduction, and robbery; these
convictions were largely due to the eyewitness testimonymade against him at trial [2]. During the
investigation, a collection of photos was presented to the victim, where Anderson s photo was the
only one in color. Then, in a line up 30 minutes later, Anderson was the only one brought in whose
image was shown to the witness in the original array. Unfortunately, the witness then identified
Anderson as the perpetrator, which acted as very convincing evidence in the... Show more content

Despite knowing the unreliability of eyewitness testimonies, investigators still narrow in on
suspects identified by these witnesses. To explain the effects of eyewitness testimony one can
examine a few conditional probabilities:
Prob(Police investigate all leads/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Police investigate all leads/No
eyewitness testimony)
Prob(Correct person convicted/Police investigate all leads) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police
do not investigate all leads)
Thus depending on specific numerical probabilities, it follows that:
Prob(Correct person convicted/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/No
eyewitness testimony)
Of course, eyewitness testimonies are not always unreliable and often can be crucial in correctly
identifying the perpetrator of the crime, thus these premises and conclusion are not to be taken at
face value, but as a way to conceptualize bad bias from eyewitness testimony. Mistaken eyewitness
testimony causes a large amount of bad bias by shifting focus onto one specific defendant. With all
the focus on one defendant, many cognitive biases come into play, such as confirmation bias and
belief perseverance. If a witness passionately claims that someone committed the crime,
investigators are likely to mold evidence to fit the case against that defendant, instead of identifying
an alternative suspect who

Robert Cialdini And His Colleagues Essay
Robert Cialdini and his colleagues (1976) introduced and formalized the social psychological
phenomenon called basking in reflected glory (BIRG), recognizing how individuals tend to increase
their identification with a person or group with whom they share a preexisting ingroup identity
when the latter has succeeded in an endeavor that brings group pride. Social identitytheory is
typically invoked to explain how the phenomenon is manifested through ingroup affiliation and self
enhancement. Though BIRG as a phenomenon has been found to be replicable across cultures, its
determinants and manifestations nonetheless vary cross culturally. Through the current literature
review that aims to integrate the results of previous studies, it is found that the noninstrumental
nature of ingroup identification and the increase in association with a successful other are cross
culturally similar. However, the construal of social identity and the achievements that become a
source of ingroup pride are significantly determined by a country s historical and economic milieu,
while the characteristics of self enhancement (on both ascribed group and self esteem) are informed
by the values and expectations set forth by the culture to which basking individuals belong.

The third stage of labor happens after you baby has come out, when your womb contracts and
the placenta comes out through the vagina. Infancy is the stage or period of early childhood this
is where the kid is full of energy learning where to crawl, roll over and sit up and eventually how
to walk. Very basic skills are learned during through this period such as, coordination and the
ability to represent images and objects with words. A lot of the child s features also change
during this stage. Early Childhood is a stage in human development. It includes toddlerhood and
some time afterwards also this is where children play. However this is where language is learned
and being used, they take what is and they combine it with what is possible. Also this is the stage
where children become very curious asking Who? What? When? Where? And Why? Furthermore
this is when the child develops a huge imagination and a imaginary friends. Middle Childhood is
a time where where children develop their skills for building healthy social relationships with
other children or adults. Also this is the stage that will prepare them for later developments such
as Adolescence and Adulthood. Additionally this is where the sense of an inner subjective self

Analysis Of Diego Rivera s Man At The Crossroads
The ever so common breach of artist freedom was brought to life in 1934 when Diego Rivera s
commissioned painting, Man at the Crossroads, was destroyed for its controversial content. This
piece, originally commissioned by the Rockefellers to place on the ground floor of Rockefeller
Center, representing hope and a new future. Rivera s depiction of this began with painting a man
controlling a machine at the center of the mural, surrounded by what Rivera called elongated
ellipses that were filled alternately with cell patterns and cosmological explosions (qtd. In Social
History of the United States 325). Within his first few weeks of painting the mural, the New York
World Telegram called the mural anti capitalist propaganda . After Rivera saw this article he was
outraged,he sent his assistant to get pictures of renown communist Vladimir Leninquoting, If you
want communism, I will paint communism (qtd. In Destroyed by Rockefellers, NPR). After this
addition, the news outlets went haywire and the Rockefellers tried to get Rivera to remove Lenin.
When he wouldn t they fired him and left the painting incomplete until it was destroyed by workers
in 1934.
Although Rivera s addition of Lenin was unexpected and spontaneous it wasn t out of character.
Rivera was an outspoken member of the Mexican Communist Party in the 1920 s. In fact Man at
the Crossroads wasn t even the first of Rivera s murals to be taken down for its use of communist
propaganda. Years prior a mural of

With the AfterBuzz for When Calls the Heart, we don t have any commercials. It s one of the
general principles that Keven and Maria believe in. One of our basic rules at AfterBuzz is that
we never have fans pay for the content. The content is all free. But it does cost a pretty penny to

We have what we call wide read where different sponsors who have actual on air reading of a

The Function Of James And Musculoskeletal System
Case Introduction
James Walsh, a 55 year old male presented symptoms including weakness inferiorly in his right
lower limb and difficulty performing simple tasks such as walking or tying his shoelace. He also
had some difficulties swallowing and often experiences unpredictable movements due to lack of
control. As a result, he primarily uses a wheelchair and requires careful assistance when performing
everyday activities.
The function of James musculoskeletal system is primarily to facilitate movement as the
contraction of his muscles pull on bone to carry out an action. It also contributes to heat production
for enzymes to function, stability by resisting unwanted movement and maintains his posture
(Saladin, K S., 2007). This is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, James case of spastic cerebral palsy alters the interaction between the musculoskeletal and
nervous system in some areas which are affected.
Case Examination
James condition of spastic cerebral palsy impacts the regulation of muscle tone due to the effect of
spinal reflexes when muscles are slightly contracted (Ballard, F., 2016). Muscle tone is dependent
on the release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). This is regulated
when there is a balance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. James condition of
cerebral palsy indicates that there is an imbalance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory
impulses. The imbalance between these impulses causes a lack in regulation of muscle tone due to
the insufficient release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). James
excess production of excitatory impulses originates in the golgi tendons of organs and muscle
spindle, a specialised sensory receptor in the muscle (Albright, A.L., 1995). The impulse then
passes through afferent nerves into the spinal cord and releases excitatory neurotransmitters. In
contrast, the lack of ability to generate inhibitory impulses suggest that the regions of the brain
responsible for the generation of inhibitory impulses including the basal ganglia, brain stem and
cerebellum may be damaged (Albright, A.L., 1995). Consequently, the excess of excitatory
impulses may result in

The Draft Theory Of Practice Essay
Draft Theory of Practice
I have been in the education field for twenty three years and have had the opportunity to work with
many administrators which all have had very different leadership styles and personalities. I have
been lucky to be able to work with a few principals that were, in my opinion, effective and
transformational leaders. Unfortunately, I have also had the occasion of working with principals
that made it almost unbearable to continue working in an uninviting and toxic atmosphere, which
resulted in many seasoned educators leaving the campus or the education field all together. All of
these experiences, good and bad, have made me develop my own perception of administration
and of the principalship itself; formulating my own theory as to what I believe to be the most
effective way, as an administrator, to promote success of each student. My theory of practice
consists of goals which depend on getting all stakeholders involved in the success of our students.
Some of my goals in the principalship are: promoting a safe school environment for students and
staff, performing my duties as a principal in an ethical manner which will encourage teachers and
students to also act with integrity and honesty. It is my belief that attaining these first two goals
will foster the relationships needed to work collaboratively on the vision and mission of our school;
getting all stakeholders involved, students, teachers, support staff, parents, community members,

Organelle Analogy Cell Wall
Part 1
The organelle I have chosen is the cell wall. The analogy I will use is that the cell wall is like
city/border wall. The wall allows for physical structure and also the ability to let things cross
through its walls, such as other living organisms or inorganic products. The border/city wall has the
choice to allow these things to pass or not to pass through this checkpoint. The ability to reject
certain things from crossing allows the city (cell) to protect itself from contamination or pollution.
The Cell wall is a hard, rigid layer that surrounds the cells of fungi, bacteria, and plants. The cell
wall is located just beyond the cell membrane. The key purpose of the cell wall is to provide
structure, flexible power, structure support,

Legislative Process in the Malaysia Parliament
Question 1
Article 44 of the federal Constitution vests the legislative authority of Malaysia Parliament. Explain
the legislative process in the Malaysia Parliament.
In Article 44, the legislative authority of the Federation shall be vested in a Parliament, which
shall consist of the Yang di Pertuan Agong and two Majlis (Houses of Parliament) to be known
as the Dewan Negara (Senate) and the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives). My opinion
about the legislation is refers to laws made by a person or body, which has power to make law. In

The legislative procedure in the State Assemblies is almost similar to that in the Federal Parliament
with some local variations. Bill are passed by the one chamber by Legislative Assembly and
assented to by the Ruler or Yang di Pertua Negeri before becoming law, and no law can come into
force until it is published. Bills requiring expenditure from the Consolidated Funds have to be
introduced by a member of the Executive Council. State Constitution, with certain exceptions may
also be amended on the same format as an amendment of the Federal Constitution, that is, supported
on the second and third reading by at least two third of the total number of members. The
constitutional provisions affecting succession to the throne in the Malay State may not be the
subjects of amendment by the State Legislature.
A Bill is adopted by a simple majority vote of those members present and voting. There are several
exception to this rules, the most significant being constitutional amendment in accordance with
article 159 of Federal Constitution. Bill shall not been passed in either House of Parliament unless
it has been supported on the second and third readings by the votes of not less than two third of the

Analysis Of Erik Erickson s Eight Stages Of Psychosocial...
In this paper I will discuss Erik Erickson s eight stages of Psychosocial Development. My paper will
look at each stage in depth and when you re done reading them, you will have a broader
understanding of each stage in detail.
Every person has their own identity that makes them who they are today as a person. People also
have different personality traits that make every person different from each other in their own way.
Erik Erikson came up with the Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development for people to figure
out how to adjust their own life. Also, Erik Erickson s Eight Stages of Psychosocial
Development helps us figure out who we are as a person. If there is a crisis in our life, then Erik
Erickson s Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development will help us figure out how to solve the
issue. The first stage of Erik Erickson Psychosocial Development is Trust vs Mistrust. The first
stage happens at the age of infancy to about eighteen months old. Infants learn how to trust
others, even when people are caring for the baby s basic needs. According to the website called
Psychology Notes, it stated that At this stage, infants must learn how to trust others, particularly
those who are care for their basic needs. (https://www.psychologynoteshq.com/erikerikson/) Also,
Infants may sense some threats in the world that could replace the trust that they are starting to
develop with the people around them. First, people should start to instill a since of comfort in
their infants to start building their trust because of the level of care they are providing. Parents
will always provide their babies food, shelter, clothes, and water to make sure the child feels
comfortable and secure. From this stage, hope is starting to develop and is another part of the
Trust vs. Mistrust stage. During this stage, when infants are in a crisis, they hope that there is
someone there for support so they don t feel alone while dealing with their issue. The second stage
of Erik Erickson Theory of psychosocial development is Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt. The
second stage happens at the age of eighteen months to three years old. With this stage, children will
start teaching themselves how to take care themselves. If children can t take care

The Caribbean presents an unrealistic facade to outsiders; this region is the vacation hot spot with
many beautiful tropical islands, perpetual sun, and clear waters a place to rid yourself of all
worries, and unwind. But there are many underlying issues in this region that most people are
unaware of. In The Oxford Book of Caribbean Short Stories, written by Stewart Brown and John

common theme amongst many of these short stories is identity. In postcolonial societies, for
example, the articulation of identity frequently becomes an upsetting process because of a historical,

Multiple Ideas In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
While writing The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald had many inspirations that helped him form
what is considered the great American novel. Fitzgerald portrays multiple ideas throughout the
story that closely relate to events in his own life in the early 1900s. He wanted his book to be
different. He wanted to create something greater, with this work. The book is considered to be
written closely to his own experiences, and could have been Nick Carraway or Jay Gatsbyhimself.
When Fitzgerald first wrote Gatsby in the 1920s, it was not an instant sensation. Although all the
copies from the first run of 20,870 sold, many copies from the second run languished in a
warehouse until Fitzgerald s death in 1940 at the age of 44 (Lombardi). His books became a huge

However, his readers may not know where he got the inspiration to write his book or where
some of his profound ideas came from. Ironically Fitzgerald based many different ideas in his
novel, to events that were happening in his own life. Some articles suggest that Fitzgerald based
the plot of Gatsby from two real life murders that he was influenced by. 1922 was also the year of
the Hall Mills murders, a horrific double homicide full of the sort of salacious detail that turns a
tragedy into tabloid fodder (Churchwood). The book Careless People expresses facts of the Hall
Mills murders, and how closely related it was to the secret love between Daisy and Gatsby, and
Tom and Myrtle Wilson. It is described that an adulterous couple, Edward Hall and Eleanor
Mills, who were both married to other people, were found dead side by side on rural property; a
popular spot for couples. It was said Mills was sadistically mutilated (Churchwood). It was also
said that Halls spouse was rather wealthy and used her money to eliminate the case. After all, she
and her brothers were prime

Universal Health Insurance In The United States
Around the world, many industrial countries have enacted a comprehensive health insurance

were many stumbling blocks over the years. Politics, social, institutional and cultural forces all

After Kennedy s assassination, Medicare legislation truly began to advance. For the first time,
there was support of insurance on the national state. President Johnson focused on the Medicare

Our contribution is three fold. First, we propose a two stream ConvNet architec ture which

multi frame dense optical flow is able to achieve very good performance in spite of limited training
data. Finally, we show that multi task learning, applied to two different action classification... Show

The spatial stream performs action recognition from still video frames, whilst the temporal stream
is trained to recognise action from motion in the form of dense optical flow. Both streams are
implemented as ConvNets. Decoupling the spatial and temporal nets also allows us to exploit the
availability of large amounts of annotated image data by pre training the spatial net on the
ImageNet challenge dataset [1]. Our proposed architecture is related to the two streams hypothesis
[9], according to which the human visual cortex contains two pathways: the ventral stream (which
performs object recognition) and the dorsal stream (which recognises motion); though we do not
investigate this connection any further here.
The rest of the paper is organised as follows. In Sect. 1.1 we review the related work on action
recognition using both shallow and deep architectures. In Sect. 2 we introduce the two stream
architecture and specify the Spatial ConvNet. Sect. 3 introduces the Temporal ConvNet and in

the first few days during Pi s survival on the lifeboat, Pi continues to exhibit and carry through

From the very start it is revealed to us that Piscine Molitor Patel is extremely passionate about
religion. In fact, the entire introduction and first part of the novel revolves around Pi expressing his
love for all types of religion, and describing his beliefs for each and every one of them
(Hinduism, Islam, Christianity). Pi talks about everyone s confusion on which religion he

when Pi is thrown out onto the lifeboat by the sailors of his ship going to Canada, I see a huge
change in the intensity and amount of connections Pi makes to religion. On the lifeboat, during
the first few days at sea, Pi completely forgets about all of his prayers. I believe that this is because
Pi completely loses his faith when he is the only one to survive out of his family, and he is on a
tiny life boat with a huge Bengal tiger, and a hyena. I think that Pi s love of religion came from all
of the hope stored inside of him. However,

The Colonization Of Indonesia And Indonesia
As a Junior in high school, my history teacher taught us that our native country, Indonesia, was
colonized by the Dutch for 350 years beginning in the year 1595. The Netherlands is one of the
European countries that established itself over other countries in order to take advantage of them,
in this case to take advantage of Indonesia s rich land and resources. Indonesia is a land rich in
spices, rice, sugar, tea, coffee, and other products desirable for export. The Dutch colonized us with
the purpose of monopolizing our trade. Because of the profits obtained from Indonesia s most
important resource, that of its spices, the Netherlandstook tremendous wealth from our land.
During the Colonial era, the United State of America and Great Britain maintained a good rapport
with their colonies and respected their laws. Both countries allowed more independence for their
colonies. On the other hand, European countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, and France were
very restrictive toward their colonies, for example, they limited education for certain social groups.
Also, Southeast Asia was not allowed to engage in economic activities. This caused a great deal of
corruption as well as huge problems in these European countries. These more oppressive colonial
rulers did not support the rules of law in the indigenous countries, in this case in Indonesian. They
levied laws on the Indonesians but not on the Dutch immigrants there. They put controls on our
people but not their people.

I noticed how clean and neat it was which was surprising to me because I always imagined a
social worker s office to be unorganized with files everywhere. As I looked around I noticed
pictures of her family and historical pictures, leaving me under the impression that she was a
strong advocate for human rights. From the looks of her room, I assumed that having pictures
of her family in her helps her keep stress at a minimum while at work. Erin Burnette, from
Knoxville, Tennessee moved to Richmond in 1999 to attend Virginia Commonwealth
University where she received her master in social work. Erin also has a master of divinity from
Baptist Seminary at Richmond. With her master of divinity, Erin served as a Hospice Chaplain
for ten years. As of today, she withholds sustainable credibility due to her Erin s social work
career began in the year of 2004 but she feels that she has been involved with social work her
entire life. During our interview, Erin explained why she chose social work, she says that her

The Blues, By Bessie Smith And Billie Holliday
Music is such a beautiful creation, the way the melody, rhythm, tempo, all mix together to become
a masterpiece. One specific genre of music, the blues, was heavily popular in the early 20th
century. The blues is a tradition oriented music style from the rural Southern African American
origin ( Jazz in America , n.d. ). It usually had secular content, which is disparate from how it was
when it first began. Bluesmusic originated in plantations, where slaves sung, using it as a mental
escape method from their oppression. Even though it started off in a simple way, it eventually
turned into a serious entertainment. Bessie Smith and Billie Holliday, two well known blues
female singers, became hit sensations. Blues started in the South, long ago, when slavery was
still socially accepted. Slaves were severely oppressed because they were legally bound to their
masters. One way they found emotional freedom was to sing songs, which were called slave
songs. It Makes a Long Time Man Feel Bad , Hammer, Ring , Cornfield Holler , were just a few
of the popular slave songs ( Slavery and the Making of America , 2004). Slave songs were in
various forms such as field hollers, work songs, spirituals, and country string ballads ( The Blues
A History , 2003). As time passed, these types of songs were starting to become known as the
blues. After slavery ended in 1865, blues was not only still present, but became more evident. In the
beginning of the 20th century, blues music was on the

Green Incentives in Malaysia
Environmental sustainability is gaining much focus in the recent years as people are beginning to
strive for a balance between economic growth and sustainability. In fact, many developed countries
such as UK, Japan have implemented strict environmental policies to enhance the quality on the
environment and to preserve the sustainabilityof its resources. It is viewed that Malaysia s effort has
been marginal in achieving effective management of resources, pollution control and prevention of
environmental degradation.

WASTE RECYCLING
Solid waste is one of the environmental problems that are often overlooked by Malaysian. Due to
the increasing population and development, generation of solid waste continues to increase and it is
expected to reach about 30,000 tons per day in the year 2020. To promote waste recycling and

Of The Cold War Changed By Gorbachev And The End Of The...
This essay will prove how the end of the cold war was caused by Gorbachev and his policies to a
large extent. The end of the Cold war was also due to President Reagan and the collapse of The
Soviet Union to a smaller extent. Gorbachevs policies were Glasnost and perestroika. Perestroika
translates to restructuring and this was the restructuring of the economy from the state, and the
social and political restructuring. Glasnost translates to openness and this was the freedom of the
press. Glasnost and Perestroika were ultimately the cause of the fall of Gorbachev. President
Reagan was Anti Soviet and called communists Good Marxist Leninists. The end of the cold war

Reagan called the soviet union the focus of evil in the modern world and called Soviet leaders
good Marxist Leninists (source G). There was the creation of the Reagan Doctrine and this
doctrine was military and goods that would be sent to movements that were trying to overthrow
Soviet rule. Reagan also introduced the Strategic defense initiative (SDI) and this was a research
program to deploy missiles to destroy nuclear weapons. Both of the Reagan Doctrine and the
Strategic Defense Initiative was created because of Reagan being anti soviet. Ilya Zaslavsky
believed that it was Reagan who created perestroika and glasnost, not Gorbachev. (source o)
Some historians believe that the end of the Cold War was due to the communication and talks
between Gorbachev and Reagan. (source E) In Geneva 1985 Reagan threatened Gorbachev to
reduce or continue the arms race. Gorbachev agreed on the condition that the United States would
agree to not deploy their Nuclear weapons. The two leaders came to an agreement in 1987 when
both signed the Intermediate range nuclear forces treaty (INF). This led to a partnership between

Treatment Options of Acme Essay
The word acne comes from the word acme meaning the highest point , which comes from the Greek
akme meaning point or spot .
Acne is a skin condition that may occur due to hormonal changes during puberty or even during
pregnancy. Some attribute acne to external factors like greasy cosmetics and unhealthy diet. The
claims of a person s diet affecting their acne has not been verified yet. Another popular claim
links stress to acne, however, stress does not cause acne but it can contribute to worsen the
condition. It is characterized by visible blackheads, pustules, cysts and whiteheads. It can affect
any part of the body, like the face, neck, chest, shoulders or back and can occur in people of all age
groups. Although, not a dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More often than not, people wanting an extreme solution for acne opt for laser surgery which is
said to minimize the scars left behind on the skin. Another common treatment sought out by the
dermatologists today is ACCUTANE. Since, it affects people of all age groups, an effective
treatment is yet to be found that will have the same effect for everybody. But since, everybody s
skin is different, no such common remedy exists and only a dermatologist can examine an
individual s skin and suggest the best possible course of action for the treatment.
ACCUTANE:
Also known by the name Isotretinoin or (13 cis retinoic acid), Accutane is used for the treatment
of severe cases of acne. It is a form of vitamin A which reduces the amount of oil released by oil
glands in the skin, and helps the skin renew itself more quickly. Accutane has long been
questioned regarding the uneven balance of its pros and cons with the cons weighing on the
heavier side. It has a long list of particularly dangerous side effects associated with it due to
which it can be prescribed only by specific dermatologists in consultation with the manufacturers.
It is administered orally in pill form and is advised to be taken with a meal containing appropriate
fat content, normally for 15 20 weeks (3.5 4.5 months), although it is also sometimes prescribed at
lower dosages for up to six months or longer. It is strictly advised to the patient to follow the

Vagus Nerve Stimulation
This article discusses how an electrical shock given to a nerve that travels from the brainstem to
all the organs, called the vagus nerve, can help to stop autoimmune diseases. In the past,
stimulation of the nerve was used to treat epilepsy and depression. In 1998, a neurosurgeon by the
name of Kevin Tracy at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research found that the stimulation of
the vagus nerve in rats greatly reduced the production of TNF a which is a protein that helps the
process of inflammation. Basically, when this nerve is stimulated, it releases increased
noradrenaline in the spleen to immune T cells. In turn, the T cells release more acetylcholine to
the macrophages. Last, these macrophage release less of the pro inflammatory TNF a. To carry on
Tracy s work, Akiko Nakai at the Osaka University in Japan found that nerve stimulation limited
what T cells could do in the bloodstream in the process of inflammation. Over... Show more content

Although there is no cure for autoimmune disease, this treatment could potentially be very
effective and efficient. The power of the electrical shock needed to stimulate the nerve is miniscule
relative to its effects on all the organs it connects to, including the most important one to this
treatment, the spleen. Unlike other treatments, all this requires is an electrical shock that is
accessible at any medical center.
This article interests me personally because I find that the interdependence of the nervous and the
immune system is fascinating. Two different organ systems that have only one common goal: to
maintain homeostasis. In all other aspects, they are prodigiously different on how they work, why
they work, and what they do for the body. This article also shows how humans these days are

Winston Churchill As A Prime Minister Of England
Sir Winston Churchill is well known for being the Prime Minister of England who led the country
through World War II and played a major role in ending the war. However, it is his internal battles
that give us far more insight into who Churchill really was. His personal struggle, possibly with
bipolar disorder, helped shape history and gave Churchill the strength to win the war. The periods
of highs and lows seen throughout Churchill s life indicate the he may have been struggling with
Bipolar Disorder (Type II). Winston Churchillhimself has even said that he suffered from the
black dog of depression over the course of his life (Rubin, 2003). However, given his periods of
hyperactivity it s very likely that Churchill was actually battling bipolar II disorder. Instead
letting his mental disorder control him, Churchill overcame his bipolar disorder, and used this
inspiration to lead his nation out of war. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (the DSM V), Bipolar II disorder is characterized by a clinical
course of recurring mood episodes consisting of one or more major depressive episode and at
least one hypomanic episode. During the mood episode(s), the requisite number of symptoms must
be present most of the day, nearly every day, and represent a noticeable change from usual
behavior and functioning (APA, 2013). Essentially, Bipolar II Disorder is characterized by
hypomanic and depressive episodes throughout a person s

Oral History In Ella Cara Deloria s Waterlily
Only so that my people may live! Ella Cara Deloria dedicated much of her life to helping outsiders
understand Native American life. Deloria was born on a Yankton Sioux Reservation on 31 January
1889. Although her father was an Episcopal missionary, Deloria still grew up learning the traditions
of the Siouxand speaking the Dakota language. Upon graduating college, she served as a health
education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying
and informing others on Dakota culture and life. When given the opportunity, Deloria dropped
everything to become a research assistant. This first step enabled her to ultimately become an
ethnologist and write the historical fiction novel Waterlily. Waterlily details the life of two fictional
nineteenth century Sioux characters: Blue Bird and Waterlily. Deloria s experiences enabled her to
contribute to the study of nineteenth century Dakota life through the historical novel Waterlily;
especially, the use of oral history in the creation of the novel, gender roles, and kinshipdynamics.
Much of the experiences portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus
it is important to examine the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily. One of the main
criticisms of oral history is the tendency to assume, that because someone says something it
automatically contains a truth. Deloria specifically addressed this issue when she interviewed her
subjects. First, she

latest revised estimate of actual litre volume for 1999 was thus used. Rather than trying to get too
sophisticated on the first attempt at budgeting, Mr. Peterson had decided just to go with 1999 s

Female Characters In Frankenstein Research Paper
Looking closely at the female characters in Frankenstein, you can see that the female characters
are passive, disposable, and serve a function for male characters. Why are women in Mary Shelly s

  • 2. King Oedipus The King Essay Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious action in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the audience. Aspects of a tragedyinclude a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a hamartia which causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common example of hamartia is hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia, which is when the tragic hero has a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and also to fear, by showing us how what happened to him could happen to us as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that they contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I whom no stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the curse that none but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all these curses for anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses, which he himself laid. This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the people in Laius party save one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how Oedipus is capable of such an extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero. Similarly, Sophocles uses irony when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications? which shows how Oedipus is not the only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine warning, which helps to show the play as an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thesis About Snow Treasure Have you ever thought about your country having a war with other country?? Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan is a sad and memorable story of children carrying gold in Norway(Norway is their country) and adults fighting with Germans. This story is important to people who think war is nothing. Because in this story, they show how they are having a hard time during the war. I really admire character Jan Lasek, who is a Pole but he was once German solider. Then you ll ask me why. Because he risked his life to save Peter from German army. This story takes place in Norway during a war with Germans. The protagonist is Peter, a brave young boy about ten years old. He leads children to carry a gold in Norway to Uncle Victor, because Uncle Victor should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s important because it shows how much hard time they are having during the war and it teaches you how people get hurt by war. In the war between Norway and German, children always have to pull gold on the sled because Germans can take them. They carry more than 100kg. It will be really hard. And by hurting, sure it can be like shooting gun hurting, but if our heart hurts, it really hurts. Like with war, when people pass away, think about it. How will their family feel?? Really, really sad. So I think like war, we shouldn t make it happen. I was able to identify with Peter who was afraid at first to be the leader but later on he did a great job. I strongly recommend this book because it is touching and it shows how children has done a great job, with very responsible actions. I was very moved with Jan Lasek because even if he can die, he risked his life for Peter. How touching and amazing is that?? I think I can t have done it. I was inspired with Uncle Victor s idea. If children is around, who would think they are carrying a gold?? It was a great idea. It taught me that if we really want something, they risk their lifes to. Like for example, if my mother is sick, than I ll do anything to fix it. Won t you? It s a interesting story. It really made me sweat some times. And you ll be moved with what Jan Lasek has done for Peter. I really loved this book. I recommend to all my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Discussion On Ethical Theories 5.0 Following up discussions based on ethical theories After discussing ethical dilemmas from individual and corporation aspects, we bring ethical discussions from four major points according to ethical theories introduced in the background section: social duty, consequence, law and culture. 5.1 Social Duty Happy Meal , a specialized meal marketed at children from McDonald s contains main item such as a hamburger, a side item like french fries, a drink, and most important, a toy. 20% of McDonald s sales is from toys, it has become one of the largest US toy distributors. McDonald s uses popular characters such as minions or Hello Kitty to attract children to their happy meal. Because of these toys, McDonald s became the most popular American kid s restaurant. Some children even ask for Happy Meal only for the toys. Because Happy Meal is the most popular fast food product, McDonald is big extend has a significant relationship with American childhood obesity. Is the Happy Meal ethical or not? According to Kant s theory, which includes that people have the duty to not physically harm others, McDonald s behavior is unethical. Because as a fast food company, McDonald s targets children by using toys and selling them fast food which make children obese and make far lasting impacts on those children s dietary habits. But from McDonald s aspect, they provide healthier choice by changing the french fires to apple slides, and they also provides all the nutritional facts for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Fathers Of The Family The fathers of the family were constantly out working in the fields, and the mother of the family would either be cleaning, taking care of infants, or cooking for her family. So, from the time children are able to walk, they have to discover ways to pass the time. Just like today, some activities were restricted due to the weather outside. For example, during the winter season pigs were being slaughtered. Children would go to the slaughterhouse and pick up the pigs bladders and blow them up like balloons. Also during the wintertime, it would snow. Just like children today, kids would go out in the streets and participate in snowball fights. When it was summery outside children would go to ponds or streams and have water fights with their friends or siblings, because during this time water fights were a popular form of recreation. Other forms of recreation were: fighting battles with wooden swords, competing in little play tournaments, and playing hide and seek. Chiara Frugoni noted in her book: We known more about medieval children s games ever since a whole collection of toys made of clay was discovered during the nineteenth century in Strasbourg, in the workshop of a thirteenth century potter: bird shaped whistles, miniature tiles and pitchers, tiny moneyboxes, little dolls, and diminutive horses with riders on their backs. (Frugoni, p. 131) Simultaneously, children during this period also had to learn. Children who were born into a poverty stricken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice Essay Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice for the Provision of Benefits in Kind At the Budget 2016 the government announced that due to concerns over the rising cost of salary sacrifice, it would consider limiting the range of benefits in kind (BIK) that attract income tax and National Insurance Contributions (NIC) advantages when provided as part of salary sacrifice arrangements. Following this Budget announcement, on 10th August HMRC published a consultation document which sets out a high level proposal for the future tax treatment of BIK offered via salary sacrifice. The consultation period will run from 10th August to 19th October, and during this time Willis Towers Watson will be reviewing the proposals together with industry bodies, as well as looking at what providers have to say, before responding to HMRC. The proposal may be subject to change and/or clarification following the consultation period. The government expects to make an announcement on decision made following the consultation in the Autumn Statement 2016. The proposed changes in summary The main proposed change is to introduce new tax legislation from 6th April 2017 that will make a BIK provided through salary sacrifice chargeable to income tax and Class 1A employer NIC, even if the BIK is normally exempt from tax and Class 1A NIC. The BIK charge will be calculated as the greater of the salary sacrifice amount or the cash equivalent. The proposals specifically target salary sacrifice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway s tough, terse prose and short, declarative sentences did more to change the style of written English that any other writing in the twentieth century. Ernest Hemingway had many great accomplishments in his historical life but one event sticks out from the rest. The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway s most enduring works. Told in Language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss. Written in 1952, this hugely successful novel confirmed his power and presence in the literacy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He would later adapt this style to his fiction. In May of 1918, Hemingway became an honorary second lieutenant in the Red Cross. He could not join the army due to a defective left eye (resentfully inherited from his mother). On his first day of service across seas, he and other ambulance drivers were assigned the horrific duty of picking up body parts from an exploded munitions factory. Death, mostly of women, on such a scale was most definitely another very shocking moment in Hemingway s young life. But he soon recovered from this experience and became known as the man who was always where the action is. He would often sneak cigarettes and chocolate to soldiers on the Italian front. It was on one of these occasions that he was severely wounded by an Austrian trench mortar. Even with over a hundred pieces of shrapnel and an Austrian machine gun bullet logged in his leg he managed to carry a wounded soldier a hundred yards to safety. He got the Italian Medal of Valor for his courageous action. He spent his recovery time at the Ospedale Croce Rossa Americana, in Milan. It is there that he met and fell for a thirty year old nurse called Agnes Hannah. To Ernest s disappointment, Agnes was not willing to embark in a relationship. • 9. Theme Of Justice In The Merchant Of Venice The theme of justice in Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice is both controversial and complicated towards the content of whether justice is served. Justice of law and justice of morality are illustrated in the play, but in a closer examination hypocrisy and lawlessness are present as well. I will be trying to analyze the theme of justicetaking under consideration the themes of religion, racism and Anti Semitism of that era. To be more specific, Shylockis a Jewish merchant whose legal rights have been violated, as Antonio was incapable of paying his debt to him. Seeking justice, Shylock goes to court demanding his pound of flesh from Antonio, in order for his bond to be satisfied. Obviously, Shylock seeks vengeance against Antonio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One would expect merciful actions to match noble words. One would be sorely disappointed. Portia s inconsistency between word and deed is vast. The gulf between her preaching about mercy dropping as the gentle rain from heaven and her vengeful punishment of Shylock is unbridgeably wide. (45) Portia s hypocrisy is also obvious in Act 1 Scene 2 when the Prince of Morocco comes in order to choose the right casket and marry her. Though she argues to be a Christian and an obedient daughter, she reveals her racist beliefs saying to her maid: If he have the condition of a saint and the complexion of a devil, I had rather he should shrive me than wive me. (The Merchant of Venice act 1 scene 2, 33.) A true Christian is not supposed to criticize another person because of his skin color. Therefore, her obedience to her father s law is hypocritical as well, because she admits that she d rather die than marry the Prince of Morocco, a suitor that according to her father s will could be her future ... • 10. Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics Theory (Part 1a) Introduction: The Beginning of the Continental Drift Theory In the middle of the eighteenth century, James Hutton proposed a theory, uniformitarianism; the present is the key to the past . It held that processes such as geologic forces gradual and catastrophic occurring in the present were the same that operated in the past. (Matt Rosenberg, 2004) This theory coincides with the theory of Continental Drift that was first proposed by Abraham Ortelius in December 1596, who suggested that North, South America, Africa and Eurasia were once connected but had been torn apart by earthquakes and floods. He also discovered that the coasts of the eastern part of South America and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water from the south then flowed in over time, thus forming the evaporites now found along the coastlines there. (Lois Van Wagner, 2013)(Figure 5) However, Wegener believed that only the continents were moving and they plowed through the rocks of the ocean basins. (Colliers Encyclopedia, 1996) Harold Jeffreys then argued that it is impossible for continents to break through solid rock without breaking apart. (USGS, 2012) Wegener also claimed that the centrifugal force of the spinning planet had forced the continents sideways, parallel to the equator; tidal pull from the sun and moon had caused lateral movement. (Sant, Joseph, 2012) His orders of magnitude were too weak. Thus, his theory was dismissed. (Lois Van Wagner, 2013) Further development and support of the Continental Drift Theory in the 1960s After World War 2, the U.S. Office of Naval Research intensified efforts in ocean floor mapping, leading to the discovery of the Mid Atlantic Ridge to be part of a continous system of mid oceanic ridges on all ocean floors, prompting Harry H. Hess to suggest the theory of sea floor spreading. The oldest fossils found in ocean sediments were only 180 million years old and little sediment were accumulated on the ocean floor. Racism, Sexism, And Classism Merlyn Manoj April 13, 2016 Period 2 Kale Then and Now: Changes of Racism, Sexism, and Classism In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout, the protagonists in the book, experience and learn about the problems of racism, sexism, and classism when their father, Atticus, agrees to defend Tom Robinson, an African American , in a trial. Set in the 1930s, most people were treated unfairly because of their race, gender, or social class. Even though problems about race, gender, and class decreased over time, these problems are still very prevalent today. Even though racism decreased dramatically over the past decades, there are still problems today that are strikingly similar to the problems in To Kill A Mockingbird. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus explains to Jem and Scout about the unfairness of court: when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins. They re ugly, but those are the facts of life (Lee 220). Even though this was set in the 1930 s, juries from court still have a racial bias to this day. In fact, from the Sentencing Project, an organization that advocates change in sentencing policy and advocating alternatives to incarceration, it has been shown that African Americans are six times more likely to be incarcerated than white males... if current trends continue, one of every three black Americans can expect to go to prison in his lifetime (Sentencing Project 1). • 12. Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to the renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative process based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres has had an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects such as religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct theatrical natures of Greek theatre and medieval dramawill be made apparent. Though both genres of theatre are closely tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious motivations that impact the ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was used to entertain or please the Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important of the four Athenian festivals: the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one satyr play to be performed in front of approximately 15,000 spectators. In classical Greece, theatre was the center of citizenship and society; religious ideologies towards Dionysus were not only realized by performances, but strongly encouraged by the state. For example, if a citizen could not afford to attend the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Teaching Of English As A Foreign Language Essay The growing influence of western powers in the south east region, including Thailand, made it inevitable for the people to interconnect with outsiders. Moreover, the impact of World War II, Anglo American economic, technology, scientific and cultural activity has come to dominate the world as the whole, as a result, English has become the primary global lingua franca (Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015, p. 2) . The teaching of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Thailand has initially started from the mid 19th century and it still plays the predominant role in Thai educationnowadays. The national English curriculum made a major paradigm shift in mandating English as a compulsory subject in schools and universities. The English teaching method was influenced by western educational ideology of values system or classical humanism where knowledge is seen as a set of revealed truths possessed by the teacher whose task is to pass it on to the learners (J. L. Clark, 1987cited in Darasawang, Reinders, Waters, 2015).Thus, the dominant teaching method has been grammar translation . Todd (2005cited in Darasawang, Reinders and Walter, 2015, p.3) stated that English teaching in Thailand has been dominated by the traditional talk and chalk approach where classrooms are teacher centered and explanation of English grammar given in Thai predominate...this traditional approach is still the most common... • 14. Summary Of Carter Father Of Black History Month Carter G. Woodson formally known as the Father of Black History Month was an extraordinarily wise man who dedicated his life time to African American History. His most famous pieces of writings was his book The Mis Education of the Negro in which many topics are discussed for example education, business, politics, religion, self hatred, and black on black prejudice, which I exceptionally believe is a very negative dilemma in the present day society. An abundant amount of what Woodson wrote about in nineteen thirtythree about blacks minds being controlled through the white people in economics, history, literature, philosophy and religion I strongly agree is still, to an extent the problem today. Education was not the only aspect Woodson discussed in his book that is still prevalent today. Correspondingly, politics also is an aspect Woodson discussed in The Mis Education of the Negro that is prevalent in present day society. Woodson quotes, ANOTHER factor the Negro needs is a new figure in politics, one who will not concern himself so much with what others can do for him as with what he can do for himself (Woodson chap. 17 par. 1). In Woodson s book when he talks about politics like the quote above he says how black people need to make a way for themselves and respect themselves instead of being so dependent on the white man s government that has been against black people from the beginning. • 15. Mascots In Baseball Why Does Baseball Have Mascots for Their Team? With the exception of only three major league teams, the Angels, the Yankees, and the Dodgers, most baseball teams have a mascot. This mascot may not seem to have much of a purpose and according to some, the mascot is more beneficial in other sports, but there is a purpose to it. To ensure the crowd is entertained. However, many people still want to know why baseball has mascots. The answer is simple. It is a distraction between plays, something that people can enjoy seeing during downtime, and something that symbolizes the team. The idea of a mascot in sports was started in a baseball team. • 16. Coincidental Jinx Research Paper A Coincidental Jinx Throughout my many years of living, I have experienced many near death experiences. Today, I will be sharing one of these experiences that I have been through. First of all, it was the March 23, 2012. It was a Friday. I, young Daryl, was still learning his basic math with a bowl cut on his head at the age of 11. School ended. My sister Gerryl and I were just picked up around 3:20 p.m. and arrived home approximately at 3:25 p.m. My sister Gerryl suggested with eagerness, Mom, Dad are we able to watch that new movie that just came out today, The Hunger Games? At that moment my sister stopped midway through her conversation, pointing with fear at a motorcyclist having blood gushing through his leg. The man glanced deep into my eyes, and I thought in my mind that will never happen to me. It was a tragedy when I observed the accident, and I was acting a bit too conceited. Two miles had passed the traffic from this accident was tremendous, a full stop. Luckily, my father spotted in the corner of his pupil that the nearest lane to the sidewalk was accessible, and nobody was driving on it surprisingly. We went ahead to move to the right, changing lanes carefully to reach the lane. At that instant, my dad then increased speed to 45 miles per hour to get to the theatre slightly quicker. As we were advancing through this lane at immense speed, a Toyota Civic with a brown tint then tried to change lanes. My dad was furious that he did not want the car to cut him off when it was his right of way. My dad then commented with a temper, No! Stomping on the gas pedal, he increased his acceleration to a rushing 75 miles per hour to prevent the car from cutting us off. The car continued to change lanes carelessly without a turn signal. At that moment, all I remembered was glass being shattered everywhere. My heart then stopped, and I was whiplashed with massive force having my head collide with the dashboard. Furthermore, all I saw was pitch black, and I did not know what was happening. After six minutes have passed, I regained some consciousness, shaking my head and trying to gain coordination with my eyes. All that I could hear is an old woman s voice with ... Midterm Paper: The Effects of Eyewitness Testimony in the US Criminal Justice System On December 14th, 1982, Marvin Anderson was sentenced to 210 years in prison for crimes that he did not commit [1]. He was charged with rape, forcible sodomy, abduction, and robbery; these convictions were largely due to the eyewitness testimonymade against him at trial [2]. During the investigation, a collection of photos was presented to the victim, where Anderson s photo was the only one in color. Despite knowing the unreliability of eyewitness testimonies, investigators still narrow in on suspects identified by these witnesses. To explain the effects of eyewitness testimony one can examine a few conditional probabilities: Prob(Police investigate all leads/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Police investigate all leads/No eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police investigate all leads) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police do not investigate all leads) Thus depending on specific numerical probabilities, it follows that: Prob(Correct person convicted/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/No eyewitness testimony) Of course, eyewitness testimonies are not always unreliable and often can be crucial in correctly identifying the perpetrator of the crime, thus these premises and conclusion are not to be taken at face value, but as a way to conceptualize bad bias from eyewitness testimony. Mistaken eyewitness testimony causes a large amount of bad bias by shifting focus onto one specific defendant. With all the focus on one defendant, many cognitive biases come into play, such as confirmation bias and belief perseverance. If a witness passionately claims that someone committed the crime, investigators are likely to mold evidence to fit the case against that defendant, instead of identifying an alternative suspect who ... • 18. Robert Cialdini And His Colleagues Essay Robert Cialdini and his colleagues (1976) introduced and formalized the social psychological phenomenon called basking in reflected glory (BIRG), recognizing how individuals tend to increase their identification with a person or group with whom they share a preexisting ingroup identity when the latter has succeeded in an endeavor that brings group pride. Social identitytheory is typically invoked to explain how the phenomenon is manifested through ingroup affiliation and self enhancement. Though BIRG as a phenomenon has been found to be replicable across cultures, its determinants and manifestations nonetheless vary cross culturally. Through the current literature review that aims to integrate the results of previous studies, it is found that the noninstrumental nature of ingroup identification and the increase in association with a successful other are cross culturally similar. However, the construal of social identity and the achievements that become a source of ingroup pride are significantly determined by a country s historical and economic milieu, while the characteristics of self enhancement (on both ascribed group and self esteem) are informed by the values and expectations set forth by the culture to which basking individuals belong. Rivera s depiction of this began with painting a man controlling a machine at the center of the mural, surrounded by what Rivera called elongated ellipses that were filled alternately with cell patterns and cosmological explosions (qtd. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, James case of spastic cerebral palsy alters the interaction between the musculoskeletal and nervous system in some areas which are affected. Case Examination James condition of spastic cerebral palsy impacts the regulation of muscle tone due to the effect of spinal reflexes when muscles are slightly contracted (Ballard, F., 2016). Muscle tone is dependent on the release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). This is regulated when there is a balance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. James condition of cerebral palsy indicates that there is an imbalance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. The imbalance between these impulses causes a lack in regulation of muscle tone due to the insufficient release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). James excess production of excitatory impulses originates in the golgi tendons of organs and muscle spindle, a specialised sensory receptor in the muscle (Albright, A.L., 1995). The impulse then passes through afferent nerves into the spinal cord and releases excitatory neurotransmitters. In contrast, the lack of ability to generate inhibitory impulses suggest that the regions of the brain responsible for the generation of inhibitory impulses including the basal ganglia, brain stem and cerebellum may be damaged (Albright, A.L., 1995). Consequently, the excess of excitatory impulses may result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Draft Theory Of Practice Essay Draft Theory of Practice I have been in the education field for twenty three years and have had the opportunity to work with many administrators which all have had very different leadership styles and personalities. I have been lucky to be able to work with a few principals that were, in my opinion, effective and transformational leaders. Unfortunately, I have also had the occasion of working with principals that made it almost unbearable to continue working in an uninviting and toxic atmosphere, which resulted in many seasoned educators leaving the campus or the education field all together. All of these experiences, good and bad, have made me develop my own perception of administration and of the principalship itself; formulating my own theory as to what I believe to be the most effective way, as an administrator, to promote success of each student. My theory of practice consists of goals which depend on getting all stakeholders involved in the success of our students. Some of my goals in the principalship are: promoting a safe school environment for students and staff, performing my duties as a principal in an ethical manner which will encourage teachers and students to also act with integrity and honesty. It is my belief that attaining these first two goals will foster the relationships needed to work collaboratively on the vision and mission of our school; getting all stakeholders involved, students, teachers, support staff, parents, community members, surrounding ... My paper will look at each stage in depth and when you re done reading them, you will have a broader understanding of each stage in detail. Every person has their own identity that makes them who they are today as a person. People also have different personality traits that make every person different from each other in their own way. Erik Erikson came up with the Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development for people to figure out how to adjust their own life. Also, Erik Erickson s Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development helps us figure out who we are as a person. If there is a crisis in our life, then Erik Erickson s Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development will help us figure out how to solve the issue. The first stage of Erik Erickson Psychosocial Development is Trust vs Mistrust. The first stage happens at the age of infancy to about eighteen months old. Infants learn how to trust others, even when people are caring for the baby s basic needs. According to the website called Psychology Notes, it stated that At this stage, infants must learn how to trust others, particularly those who are care for their basic needs. (https://www.psychologynoteshq.com/erikerikson/) Also, Infants may sense some threats in the world that could replace the trust that they are starting to develop with the people around them. First, people should start to instill a since of comfort in their infants to start building their trust because of the level of care they are providing. Parents will always provide their babies food, shelter, clothes, and water to make sure the child feels comfortable and secure. From this stage, hope is starting to develop and is another part of the Trust vs. Mistrust stage. During this stage, when infants are in a crisis, they hope that there is someone there for support so they don t feel alone while dealing with their issue. The United Statesenacted the Medicare program which provided federally organized health insurancefor Americans aged 65 older or disabled. To achieve this victory there were many stumbling blocks over the years. Politics, social, institutional and cultural forces all influenced the development and passage of Medicare. After Kennedy s assassination, Medicare legislation truly began to advance. For the first time, there was support of insurance on the national state. President Johnson focused on the Medicare plan that would be a compulsory hospital insurance program. The AMA and Republicans didn t approve the Democrats Medicare proposals and countered with an eldercare plan that was voluntary and covered physician services. The challenge is to capture the complementary information on appearance from still frames and motion be tween frames. We also aim to generalise the best performing hand crafted features within a data driven learningframework. Our contribution is three fold. First, we propose a two stream ConvNet architec ture which incorporates spatial and temporal networks. Second, we demonstrate that a ConvNet trained on multi frame dense optical flow is able to achieve very good performance in spite of limited training data. Finally, we show that multi task learning, applied to two different action classification... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spatial stream performs action recognition from still video frames, whilst the temporal stream is trained to recognise action from motion in the form of dense optical flow. Both streams are implemented as ConvNets. Decoupling the spatial and temporal nets also allows us to exploit the availability of large amounts of annotated image data by pre training the spatial net on the ImageNet challenge dataset [1]. Our proposed architecture is related to the two streams hypothesis [9], according to which the human visual cortex contains two pathways: the ventral stream (which performs object recognition) and the dorsal stream (which recognises motion); though we do not investigate this connection any further here. The rest of the paper is organised as follows. In Sect. 1.1 we review the related work on action recognition using both shallow and deep architectures. In Sect. 2 we introduce the two stream architecture and specify the Spatial ConvNet. Sect. 3 introduces the Temporal ConvNet and in particular how it generalizes the previous architectures reviewed in Sect. 1.1. • 37. Pi s Passion For Many Different Religions At the beginning of the novel, we are introduced to Pi s passion for many different religions. Pi is a believer, and he prays, as well as, analyzes the depth of religion. Do you feel that throughout the first few days during Pi s survival on the lifeboat, Pi continues to exhibit and carry through religion based procedures to calm and assist him in his means of survival? From the very start it is revealed to us that Piscine Molitor Patel is extremely passionate about religion. In fact, the entire introduction and first part of the novel revolves around Pi expressing his love for all types of religion, and describing his beliefs for each and every one of them (Hinduism, Islam, Christianity). Pi talks about everyone s confusion on which religion he supports, as they believe, one can support only one religion. What is your son doing going to the temple? Your son was seen in church crossing himself. Your son has gone Muslim However, when Pi is thrown out onto the lifeboat by the sailors of his ship going to Canada, I see a huge change in the intensity and amount of connections Pi makes to religion. On the lifeboat, during the first few days at sea, Pi completely forgets about all of his prayers. I believe that this is because Pi completely loses his faith when he is the only one to survive out of his family, and he is on a tiny life boat with a huge Bengal tiger, and a hyena. I think that Pi s love of religion came from all of the hope stored inside of him. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Colonization Of Indonesia And Indonesia As a Junior in high school, my history teacher taught us that our native country, Indonesia, was colonized by the Dutch for 350 years beginning in the year 1595. The Netherlands is one of the European countries that established itself over other countries in order to take advantage of them, in this case to take advantage of Indonesia s rich land and resources. Indonesia is a land rich in spices, rice, sugar, tea, coffee, and other products desirable for export. The Dutch colonized us with the purpose of monopolizing our trade. Because of the profits obtained from Indonesia s most important resource, that of its spices, the Netherlandstook tremendous wealth from our land. During the Colonial era, the United State of America and Great Britain maintained a good rapport with their colonies and respected their laws. Both countries allowed more independence for their colonies. On the other hand, European countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, and France were very restrictive toward their colonies, for example, they limited education for certain social groups. Also, Southeast Asia was not allowed to engage in economic activities. This caused a great deal of corruption as well as huge problems in these European countries. These more oppressive colonial rulers did not support the rules of law in the indigenous countries, in this case in Indonesian. They levied laws on the Indonesians but not on the Dutch immigrants there. They put controls on our people but not their people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Blues, By Bessie Smith And Billie Holliday Music is such a beautiful creation, the way the melody, rhythm, tempo, all mix together to become a masterpiece. One specific genre of music, the blues, was heavily popular in the early 20th century. The blues is a tradition oriented music style from the rural Southern African American origin ( Jazz in America , n.d. ). It usually had secular content, which is disparate from how it was when it first began. Bluesmusic originated in plantations, where slaves sung, using it as a mental escape method from their oppression. Even though it started off in a simple way, it eventually turned into a serious entertainment. Bessie Smith and Billie Holliday, two well known blues female singers, became hit sensations. Blues started in the South, long ago, when slavery was still socially accepted. Slaves were severely oppressed because they were legally bound to their masters. One way they found emotional freedom was to sing songs, which were called slave songs. It Makes a Long Time Man Feel Bad , Hammer, Ring , Cornfield Holler , were just a few of the popular slave songs ( Slavery and the Making of America , 2004). Slave songs were in various forms such as field hollers, work songs, spirituals, and country string ballads ( The Blues A History , 2003). As time passed, these types of songs were starting to become known as the blues. After slavery ended in 1865, blues was not only still present, but became more evident. In the past, stimulation of the nerve was used to treat epilepsy and depression. In 1998, a neurosurgeon by the name of Kevin Tracy at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research found that the stimulation of the vagus nerve in rats greatly reduced the production of TNF a which is a protein that helps the process of inflammation. Basically, when this nerve is stimulated, it releases increased noradrenaline in the spleen to immune T cells. In turn, the T cells release more acetylcholine to the macrophages. Last, these macrophage release less of the pro inflammatory TNF a. Winston Churchill As A Prime Minister Of England Sir Winston Churchill is well known for being the Prime Minister of England who led the country through World War II and played a major role in ending the war. However, it is his internal battles that give us far more insight into who Churchill really was. His personal struggle, possibly with bipolar disorder, helped shape history and gave Churchill the strength to win the war. The periods of highs and lows seen throughout Churchill s life indicate the he may have been struggling with Bipolar Disorder (Type II). Winston Churchillhimself has even said that he suffered from the black dog of depression over the course of his life (Rubin, 2003). However, given his periods of hyperactivity it s very likely that Churchill was actually battling bipolar II disorder. Instead letting his mental disorder control him, Churchill overcame his bipolar disorder, and used this inspiration to lead his nation out of war. Upon graduating college, she served as a health education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying and informing others on Dakota culture and life. Much of the experiences portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus it is important to examine the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily.
