The document summarizes the results of a market research survey conducted to inform the creation of a music video. The survey was distributed through Survey Monkey and gathered demographic information about respondents' age, music preferences, and how often they watch music videos. Most respondents were 17-19 years old and enjoyed pop, indie, house, and rock music genres. Most watched music videos frequently on YouTube. Respondents indicated they enjoy narratives, artistic qualities, and deeper meanings in music videos. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Market Research.
Market research’ us a term used to describe
the act of collecting data from your target audience
to discover more statistics about them and their
preferences. I used a website called ‘Survey
Monkey’ to create my survey, distribute it and
collect he result and collate them into demographic
tables. The initial questions where very basic in
order to establish the group I that would be giving
the answers. The questions like gender and age
can also be used to use stereotypes and
convention of male and female and age ranges to
guess what they would like enjoy.
Again the next question was very basic and was
included to again establish the audience’s basic
information to help build an idea. The most
common age was 17-19. This age range is very
common for the age range of people who do
watch music videos and would be the best for
the most information out of about what o include
in my music video the preferences that this
demographic hold.
The next question was more focused on music videos
and was a simple ask of selecting which genres of
music they enjoyed. This would help me decided o
the type of song that the target audience liked and
would be more likely to listen to and watch. The most
common replies where Indie (69%), Pop (56%),
House (45%), Rock (40%) and R&B (37%). So from
these results this I will be inclined to pick an Indies
pop rock song as this is what was most popular. We
ended up going with the song ‘Sweet Disposition by
The Temper Trap’ an Indie Rock track.
The following question asked how often they
watched music videos. This was a good
question to ask as it would let me know if he
targeted audiences watched lot music videos
it would mean they would be more
knowledgeable in the subject and the
information they gave be of a higher quality
and based of a more experienced audience.
52% of the people asked said that they
frequently watch music videos and a 32%
said they watched them regularly. This being
very helpful information, as it validates the
rest of the information gathered.
2. A more focused question on what is the most
popular platform than the audience watched
their music videos on sowed that, YouTube
was the most common (92%). This was to be
expected as YouTube is most popular platform
for all video content to be watched on. From
this it is clear that to gain best exposure for the
video to post it on YouTube.
Following on from the previous question it
is clear that social media is the popular
method of watching music video content
as 92% of the people who were asked
said that social media is how they find out
about new videos. I would be a good idea
to then once the music video is complete,
share it through different social media
channels to help increase its views.
This question was about asking what each
individual enjoyed about music videos and it was
multiple choices so that they could select a few
different aspects. Some of the most popular
result where a narrative/ story line (66%), Artistic
Qualities such as scenic shots, close ups,
alternative styles (56%) and deeper meanings
(44%). In brief, this audience liked a video that
followed a story with different shots and styles
that encompassed a meaning or moral. So this is
what I will strive for with my music video;
perhaps looking into youth and teenage life.
The length of the music video is another
question that was asked that would help
advice us into some specifics of the music
videos. In some videos they contain a very
strong native and have sometimes have
clips before and after the song and there for
can be very length. The most common reply
for his question was for it to be of a regular
length of 3- minutes (93%). So this is what
we will aim for.
3. The last question was an open
question for the audience to reply
with their favourite music videos. I
received a lot of different replies,
with music videos ranging in
genres. From big pop videos like
‘Lady gaga’ and ‘Beyonce’ ‘Kanye
West’ and ‘One Direction’ that are
big performance videos to inside
bands like ‘Blur’ ‘Arctic Monkeys’
and ‘The 197’ that feature more
deeper hidden meaning videos
with lots of conceptual aspects.
Although this question is harder to
gain strong data from that we can
use to help form our video to, it is
still very useful as it lets me see
what music videos are common
with our target audiences and is
good for inspiring shots, styles
and aspects what we could use in
our own music videos.
To summarize this survey
has been useful and insight full as
it has helped us find out target
audience, find out what they enjoy
about music videos, what
specifics they think are better than
other, how they consume the
content and some examples of
what videos they think work well.
From this survey will be able to
look at the data and mould my
video around the results to help it
be more popular with the target
audience.
