I opened the survey with ‘Whatgender are you?’ in order to see if there
was a relationship between participants gender and their preferred
music style. My results showed that 60% of the participants are male and
40% of the participants are female.
Fromthese results, I can clearly concludethat the majority of my sample
is male, however I can usethese results to pick a genre which is perhaps
a mix of males and females, as the results weren’ttoo dissimilar.
This next question was to find out the age of my participants. My results
were that 10% of my participants were between the age of 0-16, and
90% of my participants were between the ages of 17 and 25. This shows
that the vastmajority of my sampleis people in their late teens to their
mid twenties.
Fromthis, I can conclude that I should pick a genre that is appropriate
with younger people as they havemade up most of my market research.
2. I asked this question in order to gain knowledge about how important
my participants thought music videos were to them and how often
they watched them. 50% of the participants stated that they watch
music videos often, with 30% watching them whenever they see one
they like, and finally 20% sometimes watching music videos. The fact
that half of my participants watch music videos regularly highlight the
importance of music videos to the target audience.
To conclude, my results show that music videos are important to my
participants therefore it shows thatit mustbe well put together in
order to please the target audience.
I asked this question so that I could get an insight on the actual ways
that my participants access music videos. These results can be used so I
can advertisedifferent social media accordingly onto my
advertisements and digipaks. My results showed that 60% of my
participants each watched music videos on YouTube, TV Channels and
other forms of social media such as Twitter and Facebook.
Fromthese results, I can conclude that these platforms are clearly vital
in my target audience actually being able to watch the videos, and I
know to advertiseall three forms equally onto my advertisements.
3. I asked this question to gather information about my participant’s
favouritegenres, so I knew which would be the best genre to base
my music video around. The results clearly showed that the
indie/alternative genre was the mostpopular amongstmy
participants.
Fromthese results I can conclude that I should base my music
video around the indie/alternative genre as it is the most favoured
with my target audience.
This question was asked to find out whatstyle of music video was
most favoured by my participants. The results showed that 70% of
people liked performancevideos. Performanceand conceptual
videos were found to be the most popular amongstby target
audience.
These results show that I should perhaps look at making my music
video a mixture between a performanceand a conceptual video, as
it is mostfavoured by my target audience.
4. I asked this question so I could find out whatlength my music
video should be. The results showed that 3-5 minutes was by far
the mostpopular result, with 70% of participants picking it as their
preferred length.

edits in my music video. 40% of participants liked black and white
edits in music videos, and 40% didn’tmind with just20% stating
that they don’tlike them.

5. This question was asked so I knew how to layout my album
cover in terms of text. The most popular result was that my
participants wanted the album cover to have sometext and
imagery, with 70%.
