Meg’s charismatic and determined leadership style can
be seen from an incident When eBay ran into a would-
be catastrophe on June 10, 1999, when eBay’s site went
down and it stayed down. Even though eBay’s site had
crashed before, techs within the engineering team had
always been able to revive the site quickly but weren’t
able to do it this time and all indications were that the
eBay site would not be coming back as it was before .
7. Whitman could’ve waited from home as many CEOs
might have preferred to do had they been her shoes, but
not Meg Whitman. The President and CEO of eBay
remained with her staff of fearless and dedicated
individuals and from Thursday until that following
Monday, they all camped out on cots for short naps and
breaks whenever needed and possible. And their leader
never left their side until eBay was back online and
stable again.
8. After retirement activities
Meg Whitman left her role as eBay CEO in 2007
She continued to advice her predecessor John Donahoe
through 2008.
She went on to support Mitt Romney then John McCaine
in their failed bids for the role of President in the United
States in 2008.
Whitman will run for the role of Californian governor in
the 2010 election for the Republican Party.
